question about date and time imprint

hi, i am looking to buy a new point and shoot and i'm leaning to buy canon sd1200. the reviews i'm reading are good so far. i just have one question, does this sd1200 has a date and time imprint on the photos?

Fun Little Camera

This camera is a fun little camera. I learned to use this camera quickly and have enjoyed it since day one. The picture quality is great for a reasonably priced camera. The only item I would improve at this point would be a quicker focus, so the camera would take some shots faster. Other than that I would definitely buy this camera again!

Great, fun camera!

For many, many years, my camera of choice was the Canon digital rebel with some interchangeable lenses, but i really wanted a portable camera that would take quality shots. A few years ago i purchased a small Sanyo at the recommendation of my local photo shop. Bad choice! Terrible pictures... So i recently decided to try again, but to stick with Canon (and pay a little more). Well... as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and I LOVE this little camera! I hardly use the big one at all anymore.

dissapointing, poor quality, not so great

I bought this camera as a replacement of an older Canon PowerShot SD800IS which I accidentally broke. I was so pleased with the older model I bought this newer model without checking it firsthand at a store (after all it is many more features). I've realized this was a huge mistake - and here's why:

1. The first thing I noticed was the build quality of the camera was very poor - It looks poorly engineered and it is made entirely out of plastic now. Also it is now manufactured in China where as the older model was made of metal and manufactured in Japan. Also all the accessories like the battery charger are noticeably cheaper.

2. The battery life is really short - I would be lucky to get an hour's worth of use before the battery runs out - after being fully charged the night before. I have recently discovered that there is a design/manufacturing issue with the seating of the battery and now when the low battery warning flashes I simply open the battery cover and jiggle the battery and the camera starts working again. I discovered this out of frustration.

3. Compared to the old camera - the flash really floods (or overexposes) an image and all the colors get washed out - so I end up using the flash as little as possible - but now the pictures become very grainy. Hence the photo quality is definitely not on par compared to the older model.

I am definitely not a professional photographer and use the camera purely for photographing my kids so I keep the camera on it's default settings for almost all photos - I am telling you this so you understand I am a casual photographer and even my less discerning photographic needs are not being met by this camera.

The ZS3 records HD motion images at a smooth 60 frames per second with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. It uses the AVCHD (MPEG-4/H.264) format, via AVCHD lite, which stores less data than other formats and thus lets you shoot more minutes of HD motion images before running out of memory.Just set the camera to iA mode, aim and shoot. The camera does all the rest. It automatically determines the most suitable scene mode and helps correct blurring, focus, and brightness problems. With iA mode, it's easy to get beautiful, clear results. In the ZS3, iA mode cannot be used when shooting motion images. The ZS3 packs a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with 12x optical zoom into a compact body. This versatile photographic tool lets you shoot everything from sweeping vistas at the 25mm wide-angle setting to dynamic 300mm telephoto shots. And the lens system's exquisite rendering ability lets you capture even the subtle nuances of the sights and scenes in your travels.

Customer Review :

Shutter delay breaks the deal

My wife and I own the TZ1 and like it a lot. So we ordered the ZS3 to upgrade. After all, this is the fourth generation. There is indeed big improvement in several areas. The picture quality is superior, video is also vivid and clean. But there is one thing that trouble me and wife--shutter delay. Maybe we got a lemon, this particular one has about 1 second shutter delay. (This can be verified by shooting the 'second' hand of a clock.) For video recording, it always misses the first second of the action. To make thing worse, when you end a video recording, it will end half second earlier. Note, for the shutter delay, I am not comparing it with my DSLR; I am comparing it with TZ1!!

We really like the quality of the pictures and video, but we cannot accept the slugish shutter delay. So we returned it. The new ZS5 is coming out, and last I read, shutter delay issue will be addressed. (Apparently, I am not the only one have this issue.) We will try ZS5 when it become available.

Very Disappointed with interior flash pic quality.

Indoor flash picture quality totally unacceptable. To be specific -- I like the way this camera feels and operates. Daytime photo quality appears good. HOWEVER, all interior flash photos have strong blue tint. Blonde hair appears gray (not popular with the ladies, I assure you!). White walls are blue. My brindle-and-white Boston terrier was a groundbreaking brindle-and-light-blue. I have searched the internet for other comments like this for this model, without success. Therefore I've concluded it is a problem with this particular camera. I am returning this camera -- I bought it via Amazon from 17th St. Photo and am hoping they will follow through with their stated return policy.

Another problem I see with the design -- when the camera is in your pocket, it's possible for the lens covers to get moved aside with damage to the lens. Not sufficient protection.

I will order a different make and model, despite the Lumix's good reviews.

Great camera-Especially for the price

My first digital camera away from Canon. I did a lot of review browsing on the legitimate digicam sites and this one was actually my second choice after a Canon. What changed my mind was when Amazon dropped the price about $90. Even so, it was a tough choice but I am more than satisfied with this camera, expecially for the price.

Rating :

Surprisingly great.

Though this camera does have a very faint sound when zooming during video capture, the sound is not audible enough to be distracting. I would much rather have the ability to zoom with a slight gear hum, than no ability to zoom. The motion pictures I've taken so far have been magnificent. The manual is all inclusive and then some, because it goes into detail about every feature. Though I do not use this camera to its full ability, for me it takes excellent still photos and motion pictures both inside the home and outside around the house. If I had the camera choice to purchase all over again, I would definitely choose the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 again. If my memory serves me correctly, the Amazon description mentions a Class 4 Flash Memory Card. Though the Class 4 card that I purchased from Amazon does work with my camera, the manual states that a Class 6 card (or above) should be used with this camera. I genuinely hope that this info helps.

Customer Review :

Wow!

I'm a Nikon owner from back in the film days (Nikon FA - it's a tank...has fallen in rivers, down mountainsides, been in deep snow, a real Indaiana Jones-type camera, know what I mean?). Love the brand. Figured the newer digital cameras would be worthy of the name.

GOODNESS:
WOW. The digital hi-res pix this model takes are awe-inspiring. They look better than reality, if that's possible.

A definite A plus on image quality, and the larger viewscreen helps too.

Can do almost anything but slice and toast your bagels.

BADNESS:
The large viewscreen is very dim in even normal outdoor light, and dern near invisible at the beach or at a snowy street scene. You have to guess a lot, which is the whole reason I wanted to go to digital photos in the first place, so I wouldn't miss a shot and hope it came out later, like we all did/do with film.

Keeping the focus motor running, the viewscreen lit, and all the other stuff this thing does EATS batteries. You will leave a trail of AA's everywhere you go. If you think you're going to be all green and cool and use recyclables, you'll wear out a full charge in less time than you think, and wind up buying several sets so that one is always charged and ready to go. I'm just sayin'...

If you drop the camera while it's on, you're dead. It's that simple.

If the camera is OFF (with the lens IN), you've got a chance. If you even jostle it really hard with the lens out, screw you, pal. My teenage daughter, through extreme care, actually made one of these last two years. I borrowed it for an afternoon, and managed to drop it with the lens out. On the sidewalk. I'm not the only person I know who's had this happen, either. Nikon, if they talk to you, will tell you it costs about 150 dollars to repair this, plus maybe shipping.

You actually can repair it yourself for less by doing the following:
A: Remove batteries.
B: Remove memory card.
C: Throw camera in trash or bust it open with a rock (to see how it's made).
D: Buy a new one from Amazon (usually for a lot less than $150).
See how easy and simple it is to solve problems, now that we're living in the future?

Shame on you, Nikon. I really expected a LOT more, design-wise.

I got an idea for you suits at the corporate office: why not be all Japanese and make the camera body and lens train out of origami next time? Rice paper is probably sturdier than your current lens mounting system, come to think of it. I'm just sayin'...

Pretty good camera for a really good price

This is our second nikon camera and we really like it. It's super simple to use. The only problem we have is when taking pictures in low light, they very often come out grainy and the videos done in low lighting are a bit blurry. The manual even says that the ISO doesn't work great in dim lighting. Other than that, for outdoor daytime pictures or inside well lit areas, the pictures come out great. Very easy to point and shoot and get great shots!

It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn't be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon's most innovative camera technology. Even when picture-taking conditions seem pretty unforgiving, you've got Canon on your side. So the shots you used to miss are the images you'll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD unforgettable.

Customer Review :

Seems a bit flimsy compared with my previous model

The picture quality is quite good with this camera and viewable image is larger but the way its put together seems cheaper and control features are more recessed. Thus, though I don't have large fingers, operating the camera feels a bit clumsy. I'll keep it however.

Excellent small camera for capturing all events

An excellent camera that is small, cute and very effective. Do not be fooled by size, size does not matter. This camera rocks...

For fine still photography, I'm a Nikon man. For video or pocket cameras, I love Canon. Though my venerable Canon Powershot SD-450IS still works perfectly, it's just 5 megapixel and the 4 year old battery had worn out. As I searched for a replacement battery, I also found reviews and videos on this Canon Powershot SD-780IS.

Turns out, this camera has all the great features and easy of use of my older camera, even better construction quality and shot brilliant 12 megapixel and 720p HD Video. It has better Image Stabilization (IS), beautiful color reproduction and a high quality feel. It won't replace an HD Camcorder, but for the money and size, it can't be beat. My only complain with the Powershot series is that none of these cameras will allow you to save images in their raw format, saving in processed jpeg format. But te average shooter won't be doing extensive image processing, and the image quality is high enough that you still have no problem getting 11x14 (or larger!) paper prints if desired from good quality images. If you're looking for a full-featured, shirt pocket camera that shoots great video with excellent low light capability, the SD-780IS answer! I recommend it, even over the newer SD-940IS.

Heavy and bulky camera

I use this camera for work and did not purchase or pick it out myself. Comparing it to the Sony DSC-H10 that I have at home, I really don't like the Cannon. Here's why:
-The lens cap doesn't have a cord to connect it to the camera. You have to keep track of it or you'll lose it.
-The camera is really heavy. It takes 4 AA batteries and the batteries alone make the camera heavy. (My Sony is MUCH lighter with the one rechargeable battery.)
-The Duracell batteries that I use don't last very long. I use the large screen to take pictures and while I know this takes more battery juice than if I used the viewfinder, I feel like the battery life is really low. I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent in batteries this past year.
-It isn't a one button deal to over-ride the automatic flash. There are times when the flash doesn't go off and I want it to and it it's a several button process to get the flash to go.
-There is a fairly substantial delay in the time it takes between taking a picture and being able to take another one.
-With all Canon cameras you need to install software on your computer in order to view and download photos. Again, with a Sony, this isn't the case. This isn't a problem if you only download to one computer but if you want the ability to download to other people's computers, it's something to consider.

To sum up, it isn't a bad camera but the negatives outweigh the positives for me.

Canon SX20IS review

This is my second Canon digital camera. Main reason bought this one was for the vari-angle display screen and long telephoto. The camera met my expectations on both these items. I haven't had the camera long enough to truly judge photo quality but so far the photos I've taken have been great. My only complaint is not the camera itself, but the lack of a printed manual. The camera has so many features it is not economical or convenient to print out the 100+ page pdf manual (which is 8x10 size) and hardly convenient to look things up on the computer. The other complaint - is either use the lens cap or use the included lens hood -- but not both at same time. Also the need to purchase an adapter to install a proper UV filter or any other filter.. and if doing so, not being able to use the included hood! The camera itself is great and meets all my expectations for quality at this price point. It's strong suit is not portability -- it is versatility. The features this camera has for manual shooting are excellent for someone beyond point-and-shoot, but also suitable for someone who wants simple settings while learning about advanced settings. Another plus is using AA batteries. I have been amazed how long the included alkalines are lasting so far.

Learning

So far, this camera has lived up to my expectations. It will take a little time to learn all the
features it has, but , that in itself , is the beauty of digital..experiment, experiment, experiment!!!!
Don't just set to "auto" or you will miss out on some great chances to really enhance your photos.

Wanting to record high-def video?

If you want to record high-def video you MUST have an SD with a Speed Class of 4 or higher. Canon does not tell you this anywhere, I had to find out by contacting technical support after looking at the troubleshooting guide because I could only get about 15 seconds of video before it would stop.

I don't know about regular video, but to be safe I'd still get the higher speed SD card. It will take still pictures just fine with a lower speed class.

Rating :

An all around good travel camera

This Canon camera was purchased for an extended trip to Europe. I didn't want to haul my heavy, interchangeable lens, DSLR camera everywhere during six weeks touring three countries. I did want to shoot an occasional HD video without hauling a dedicated video camera. The 20X optical zoom range of the Canon PowerShot SX20IS replaces 10 pounds of lenses associated with my DSLR. The active image stabilization means that a tripod will seldom be needed.

After using the Canon for 100's of still pictures and dozens of videos, these are the pluses and minuses associated with the SX20IS -

Pluses: Very good optics, excellent auto-focus, very good HD video, excellent as a point-and-shoot camera, and very easy to use.

Minuses: Very noisy images above ISA 200, only average quality view finder image, no printed camera manual other than basics, and some purple fringing in some lighting situations.

Questions & Answers
Question : What digital slr camera is best for amateur photographers?
I really want a digital slr camera, but I don't want to spend a fortune, I've been looking at used ones, and refurbished but they're all so expensive! I've been manly looking at getting a canon EOS rebel xs. Is that a decent camera? I currently have a canon regular digital camera and I love it.

Answer:
With DSLR's your buying into a system and Canon is far and away the most expensive, closely followed by Nikon.Pentax, Olympus and Sony have many more features. They may be more expensive initially, but a soon as you start adding lenses, flashguns etc. they work out much cheaper for the same or Higher quality. You finish with a much more useful system for less money.Things to look for are a bright viewfinder, good build quality, adjustments of everyday things such as EV value, focus point, metering mode etc. without having to go into a menu. These are basic to using your camera for anything other than 'point and shoot'.Pentax and Sony offer image stabilisation in camera, so every lens you fit is image stabilised without a price premium. Pentax in particular have a massive range of older high quality lenses available for very little, all will be image stabilised.A second hand Pentax DS, which is now 5 years old, would be available at a lower price than a Nikon D40 or Canon Rebel, and is much more of a camera than either of them, it has a genuine pentaprism in the viewfinder which means a brighter image, much better build quality, the same Sony sensor that was used on the Nikon D80. The only downside is the lack of image stabilisation. Like all Pentax DSLR's it can operate as a 'focus trap' which no other make of DSLR can do.Chris

Question : What is the best digital camera for self portraits?
I am looking to purhcase a digital camera so I can specfically take self portraits. I know many cameras offer timers but my photos will be heavily posed and such so I need to have the maximum amount of control from a distance. I will not be purchasing a $500 camera so please keep a low budget in mind or at least bracket the information like under $200 or under $300 so I can understand the price points and what the additional price has to offer. I am expecting a camera at no less than 5 mp but at such a low budget I am not expecting a whole lot else.... The photos will range from studio photos, head shots, candids and such. Is a digital SLR the only way to go or can this be done with a cheap digital point and shoot? Are there any with remote options? If you have any technical tips for self portraiture please give them.I am looking for specific makes and models of cameras that have remote capabilitiy. 10 seconds is not enough time- I need to have actual control of when teh photo is taken- not just a timing mechanism.I have already looked around to find information about good self portraiture cameras but all the sights list cameras with too simplisitc timers and don't give any useful information.I have a pentax SLR film camera so I already know how to run manual settings. I am specifically looking for digital cameras that can be used from a distance.

Answer:
I don't fully understand how it works, but check out the Canon Powershot SD430, which has WiFi. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=8612&A=details&Q=&sku=418128&is=REG&addedTroughTyp e=categoryNavigationI saw somewhere that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 has a remote control, but if you were going to spend that kind of money, you could choose from any number of DSLR's that seem to all have remote control capabilities.I also read that the Panasonic DMC-FZ50 has a remote control, but can not confirm this. Same for the Olympus Evolt series.

Question : What kind of digital camera do I need to post pictures online?
I need to know what kind of digital camera to purchase to post pictures online to sell stuff. Also besides the camera what do I need to do to put pictures online.Never used a digital camera before or put pictures online ever.Need step by step instructions on how to do this. Also can I get a digital camera that puts pictures online for under 100dollars.

Answer:
I would suggest the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS85 8.1MP Digital Camera with 4x MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD

Question : What digital camera would you suggest to buy?
My cousin and I really don't know anything about buying a good digital camera. My cousin needs one and she said she's willing to pay up to $300 for a camera. She wants one that has a rechargeable battery. If you have any good suggestions about what digital camera to purchase please let me know your opinion and where could we find it brand new with a good value.Ohh i forgot to put that she needed a waterproof digital camera because we're going to Philippines and take the camera to beaches. What's a good waterproof camera?

Answer:
The samsung cameras are really good. I had one which was digimax S500 and I took really good pictures, but I took it to Mexico on a mission trip and it got wet so it stopped working. I bought the latest version which was the digimax S630 in green, but the screen broke. I have an HP camera now and I dont really like it, my mom has a digimax S630 in silver and Im always taking it. They are like $100 but they take 2 AA batts, I have the energizer rechargable though. But for like $150 I think they have some that have the recharable battery. I really like those cameras, I've had plenty of cameras and that one has great quality, you can also choose the option when taking a pic that it flashes twice so you cant blink. I took pictures last year at prom a couple months before it got wet in Mexico and I got them printed out at Costco and they looked great. I really love those cameras, I hope I can get the screen on my green one fixed before I go on my trip to Sydney this July.

Question : What digital camera do you recommend?
I want to buy a digital camera in the next few months and am aware some of the 'better' digital cameras are very pricey. I looked at previous questions to see which cameras are recommended but this doesn't help me make a decision, I also looked at reviews online. Could anyone answer the question stating the digital camera they use, and an example of photography they have taken using the camera without any editing and why they personally think it is a good camera (e.g. easy to use, photo quality, functions of the camera). Thanks! My budget is £500. I am open to all suggestions as this will help me make a better decision.

Answer:
This is a question only you can answer, if your keen on photography and want to get the maximum control then it has to be a DSLR. There are just too many restrictions with a compact, small sensor and shutter delay are just two. The only advantages they do have is size and portability. When you buy a DSLR you are buying into a system, the camera is just the down payment. The resolution of the camera just determines the size of picture you can print without adding (or removing pixels - 'interpolation), nothing else. As a guide a 6Mp camera will print 'natively' at a tad over A4, a 10Mp at A3+, but that does mean you can crop half the pixels away and still have enough for a good A4. I have 2 Pentax DSLR's a *istDS (6Mp) and a K10D (10Mp) this means I can use the same lens to do comparative tests. When printed at A4 size I can see no difference, even with a magnifying glass, at A3 you don't need the magnifying glass the difference is easy to see, the 10Mp K10D wins hands down. The make of DSLR does not matter one jot, the lens quality does, so go for the most functions for the money. Pentax score heavily here, having Anti Shake in camera means ALL you lenses are Anti Shake, there's not a price premium to pay as with other makes. Plus there are a massive range of quality old lenses all of which can be used on their DSLR's (with some limitations).Chris

Question : What digital camera can you charge the battery without removing it?
I borrowed a Sony digital camera a couple of years ago from a friend and it came with a charger similar to a cell phone charger. I just plugged the charger into the camera and then plugged the charger into the wall, but I didn't have to remove the battery. He had the camera stolen and doesn't know what model it was.

Answer:
I have a Benq DC E43 and it is very slim and has the rectangular ion battery. I just plug the adapter into the wall as with the cell phone.I guess any camera which uses the ion batteries instead of the AA batteries would charge without having to remove them.

Question : What kind of digital camera should I buy?
I want a digital camera that gives me the best quality digital photographs for around Rs. 12000. I am a amatuer photographer and was hoping to buy a digital camera for myself sometime soon. I would mainly be using the camera for portraits of people, nature and landscape shots. I am really thankful if someone can help me.

Answer:
i suggest the ixus from canon, really good , has alot of settings. high quality.try google that..maybe try ixus 860 is.

Question : Is there anything a Digital camera can never replace in a Film camera?
A few years ago, people wondered whether they should go film or digital. Most of the reasons to go for film had to do with price, and the equipment you need. But after a few years, it became clear that for the average person, there was very little reason to buy film cameras instead of digital ones. The only thing I can think of that a digital camera can't ever replace is that some film cameras don't need energy. So aside from electricity to use it, is there any feature in film cameras that can never be replaced by digital cameras?

Question : What digital camera would you recommend to a clumsy person?
I've had two digital cameras in the last two years. The first was the Polaroid a700, which worked fine until after I dropped it a few times. It started malfunctioning and doing all sorts of weird things. Then I ended up breaking the screen. The next one I had was the Kodak EasyShare MD853. It was a good camera that had amazing mega pixels, but once again broke because it was dropped so much. I'm a clumsy person, and I need a good quality camera that can handle 4ft drops without breaking. Any ideas?

Answer:
DSC-W110 has a certain masculine aesthetic. Sony has denied it the colour options made available in its W-series comrades, which can be picked up in various hues, such as pink, red and gold. The DSC-W110 has instead been restricted to the tech staples of black and silver. The brushed finish on the DSC-W110 is welcome, as fingerprint marks and smudges do not show up on its surface.http://hubpages.com/_yaans/hub/Sony-Cybershot-DSC-W110

Question : What digital camera would you reccomend that takes good pictures and good quality videos?
Hi, I am looking for a digital camera that is under $200 and I'd like for it to be something that makes good quality videos with good sound for Youtube. And I want to take pictures on it too and I want one with clear nice pictures too. I also want it to have a long battery life. Any reccomendations? What else should I look for about the digital camera? Thank you for your help!

Answer:
Hi! I highly recommend the canon powershot sd 1100 is. I recently got it for my birthday and absoulity love it. If you order on amazon.com, they sell it for $160. This camera takes high quality pictures that are super clear. It also takes good quality videos. You can take pictures and film in different modes, like color accent, which focuses on one color and everything is black and white, sepia, and just black and white. The battery life is long, because I used it nonstop for 2 days and the battery was still there(rechargeable). The. Camera comes in blue, pink, brown, silver, and gold. I have the blue one. Hope you get the canon powershot as 1100is. It's an amazing camera!
