Disappointed
My father bought me this camera for Christmas. I was very excited to have a simple point and shoot - I have an SLR by Fujifilm, but decided to try out this Nikon camera. I was disappointed first in the picture quality. In automatic mode everything was either washed out or too dark. Then, after a couple weeks, I travelled to Mexico, excited to take new pictures with my camera and hoping these would come out better. While taking a portrait, I knocked over the camera from about a foot up and the LCD display just shattered. I contacted the company and they said this was not under the warranty. The camera does not have a viewer so I was shooting blindly for a week, hoping my pictures would not be cutting off heads. The company said the LCD would be about $80 to fix, which is almost as much as I paid for the camera. Now I have a useless camera. Definitely do NOT recommend this camera to anybody. Look for another!

Good for the everyday user to get snapshots.
I bought this as a present and it's very good for the user. For me it lacks features and picture quality isn't as high as I expected.

Very happy!
Had a chance to finally use this during a weekend get-away and having not played with it at all before leaving, I was please to say I'd all but mastered the features by the time we got home! Very easy to figure out if you're familiar with basic camera navigation. Lots of options that are easy to get to. LOVE the video quality... surprised, actually, by how great it is. The pictures are great, too, for a point-and-shoot. Compact, sturdy, and fits great in my purse. I do recommend putting it in some kind of case or pocket or something, just to diminish scratches and nicks (display does seem prone to showing scratches). Otherwise, very happy with the product and price!

L20 good camera
The L20 camera it is a great camera for less than $90. The camera takes excellent photos during night shots. Compared with my previous cameras (Cannon, Olympus) this camera has better features for night shooting and also you have a variety of shooting options that you can try.
The quality of the photo is great for a point and shot camera. It is not a SLR, so don't expect wonderful zoom quality photos. It you used the entire zoom you will loose some quality on the photo.
The LCD display could have a better resolution, because at the beginning when you don't know the camera, you can thing the photo that you take came blur or that you moved the camera but no, it is just low quality on definition on the LCD screen, when you download it on you PC, you see that the photo it has excellent color and definition.
It is easy to have bad photos if you don't know how to hold the camera or if your pulse is not to good, the capacity of image stabilization it not has good has the cannon but the cannon is double the price. I read on previews reviews that if you drop the camera is done, well if you drop any camera from 4FT high or more you have a high possibilities that you will loose the camera, so protect the camera as you should and you will have years of service.
In conclusion if you are looking for a low budged and high quality camera for the price, you need to go for this Nikon, the lens is great and the features are much better than any other point and shot camera.

great for nature shots
All in all, a very nice little camera, but with all the features, not a point and shoot. Most of the gripes I have read about this camera could have been prevented by reading the manual, unfortunately, there isn't one. If you have a question, or want to try something new, you have to go back home, crank up your computer, and try to memorize the appropriate page. I would gladly have paid extra for a real manual. I'm sure Canon could print one cheaper than I can. It is advertised as having an optical viewfinder. It doesn't. The optical viewfinder is just a tiny little LCD with pixels so large you can actually count them. It is OK for framing shots, but not much else. It does have a diopter adjustment for farsighted people like me. The light meter has problems averaging on indoor shots. Aside from these few cons, everything else is pros. The auto-focus, image quality, and color reproduction are outstanding. As I take mostly outdoor nature shots, the telephoto lens is wonderful. As usual, Amazon's end of the deal was outstanding, although I do wish they would stop shipping USPS to rural addresses. Having to drive 32 miles to claim my parcel at the nearest PO is not exactly free shipping. I was undecided between this camera and other competing brands. But when my old Powershot A80, finally gave up the ghost, Canon took it back, fixed it for free, had it back to me in 10 days, and paid the freight in both directions. That sealed the deal on another Canon for me.

Amazing for it's size...
I am a serious hobby photographer who normally uses a Canon 50D DSLR; however, sometimes I want something a little smaller yet something I can still "get creative" with type of camera. This camera is it. Not to mention the video is incredible, especially the telephoto...I was amazed. I even love the low light ability. Now, of course I probably can't enlarge my photos to the size I would on my "big gear"; however I may be surprised and you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of this camera. I love shooting manual and it simply works well for it's size.

Brand new as of 2 days ago
I like it. It's heavy, but managable. I am having trouble understanding the icons so I need that book I ordered to arrive soon. It's on it's way.
I've taken about 50 still shots and all were OK. Movies, nope, not so good, but I need to learn to use it properly. They were clear and colorful but I'm shaky. Can't do the tripod thing because I use a walker to get around.
I mostly take shots of wild birds in my yard, trees and at my feeders, then post them on message boards.
I think someone younger than I, with a quicker mind and steadier hands will love it.
The viewfinder was an absolute must for me. The articulating screen was a plus that I didn't expect. I love it!!
If I have any major complaints I'll come edit this. Annie

Better than I expected. As I had read before however, the includded booklet is useless. You have to use the e-manual to get any idea how to more than just point and shoot.

| Editorial Review :
The ZS3 records HD motion images at a smooth 60 frames per second with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. It uses the AVCHD (MPEG-4/H.264) format, via AVCHD lite, which stores less data than other formats and thus lets you shoot more minutes of HD motion images before running out of memory.Just set the camera to iA mode, aim and shoot. The camera does all the rest. It automatically determines the most suitable scene mode and helps correct blurring, focus, and brightness problems. With iA mode, it's easy to get beautiful, clear results. In the ZS3, iA mode cannot be used when shooting motion images. The ZS3 packs a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with 12x optical zoom into a compact body. This versatile photographic tool lets you shoot everything from sweeping vistas at the 25mm wide-angle setting to dynamic 300mm telephoto shots. And the lens system's exquisite rendering ability lets you capture even the subtle nuances of the sights and scenes in your travels.
Customer Review :
You can't build a skyscraper on a marsh
Long story short: the DMC-ZS3 is a grainy, noisy, blurry camera.
Grainy: even in sunlight and the lowest ISO settings, zooming in to full image shows noticeable graininess in all areas of the picture. Completely unacceptable for a 10MP camera. Going toward ISO 400 and it just gets worse and worse.
Noisy: Try setting your ISO at 400 or higher, and its noise-city, baby.
Blurry: Seems the optical image stabilization on this pocket rocket is sub par. Indoors shooting at a party, exposures were typically between 1/4 and 1/15 of a second. All resulted in pretty blurry shots. Very dissappointing. My old SD870IS would have run circles around the ZS3.
The lens: fantastic. Interface? Extraordinary. Features? Ease of use? Exemplary. Video mode? Awesome. But you can't build a great camera when the foundation of it is not solidly built. You can't build a tall gleaming beautiful skyscraper on a marsh; it just won't stand up on its own.
I had to give this product a one star rating because it doesn't do the ONE BASIC thing a camera should do well: take sharp pictures. If you crop your photos 50%, you will see grain and noise everywhere even in bright sunlight. I am really saddened to put this review up here on Amazon, as I was really thrilled about this camera's performance and gleaming reviews all over the board (one of the best point and shoots of 2009?!?!) but I wanted to warn people about the reality of the situation: the picture quality is just sub-par. For examples of the graininess of photos, google "ZS3 grainy" and take a look at what people are saying.
Keep in mind, I am a stickler for details and quality. However if all you do is put pictures up on facebook, this camera will work wonders for you.
{ Before anyone discounts this review, let me say: My experience is photo enthusiast. A bit more than a casual picture taker, I have a lot of experience with the technical side of cameras and electronics in general. I own a digital SLR (Nikon) and have owned a Cannon Powershot SD870IS in the past along with several Pentax point-and-shoots. The SD870IS, which is about 3 years old now, blows the ZS3 out of the water with picture quality and performance. }

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3
Its a brilliant camera primarily because of the fact that its excellent value for money ! There is no other camera (within this price range) giving you such amazing features and pictures. I previously owned a panasonic lumix 6.1 MP wide angle camera and was really satisfied with it. The reasons for switching to this one was to upgrade to 10.1 MP as well as to get extended zoom (previous one had only 3x) and last but not the least was to be able to record high quality video recording. The ZS3 delivers all of the promised features and i am really satisfied with its results specially the 12x zoom and the high quality video recording. No other compact camera delivers so much within its price !
P.S: Make sure you get this with atleast 12 or 16gb memory card to be able to enjoy hours of great quality video recording and countless still pictures

Great Point and Shoot - 12x Zoom Super
This offering by Panasonic is a good value and a very good camera. The strength is obviously the 12x zoom lens. What can you say - it zooms.....
The video capability is what led me to purchase the DMC-ZS3. It has image stabalizer which is a must. The recording options are JPEG-movie (.MOV) and AVCHD Lite (which I have not yet found use for).
I had bought the Flip HD prior to this purchase. I returned it due to lack of image stabalization and lack of any adjustment features. I did like its video recording format of MP4 though. This allows playing and editing with Microsoft programs Movie Editor and Win Media Player. You're pretty much stuck with QuickTime for this Panasonic camera unless you are willing to part with more bucks $$ to buy video software.
The weight and size are on the large size, not too condusive to sliding into your jeans pocket. But as a 'all in one' camera to take on vacation, it is a good choice. Especially if you intend to be on an overlook and want to zoom down into the subject city or shoreline.
One disappoint so far is the price of an extra battery. Guess the after-market has not yet caught up with battery model.

Thrilled!
All the different point and shoot models on the market gave us analysis paralysis. However, after much research, we're thrilled we chose to go with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX3. The picture quality is sharp and clear (much better than the Sony we had, which, by the way, malfunctioned during our honeymoon); the 12X zoom is a plus; there are plenty of picture settings/options (some are a little hokey); and it's well constructed. The only downside is that it's bulkier than our previous cameras.

AWESOME CAMERA,But...with a great pitfall
For decades I've been trying different Cameras, and Digital ones I have had a few. Non of them has failed, but once in the lifetime you have to find the one that breaks the rule. This particular and extraordinary Linux ZS3 Camera, after 8 days of normal use, with an special bag with foam interior, surprised me with a screen full of coloured lines and half of the screen black. I live in Chile, and the options given by AMAZON, were to refund my money, due to the fact that I had bought it from the "Warehouse", despite is in the same Web page as AMAZON, and I paid to AMAZON. The technicians told me here that the Screen was broken.Fix it costed me U$ 200 plus 6 weeks waiting for the new screen. Anyway, the few pictures and videos I was able to take before the "accident", were superb. I own as well a NIKON COOLPIX for 5 years, and has nor a single or tiny scratch in its screen; the same with a fabulous FINEPIX 8000, both with many trips and miles plus many many pics taken during years. I believe from what I've read in Internet, that this is a very common problen in PANASONIC LUMIX, and they should treat as TOYOTA and GM have done with their defective products. I wish, someone from that company and from AMAZON could get in touch with me and replace the product. ( And I did buy 2 of them, one for me and one for my daughter). I wish you luck, with your screens, and buy an extended plus international guarrantee.

Good for use with Canon WP-DC29 underwater housing
We purchased the Canon SD1200 IS camera and Canon WP-DC20 underwater housing for it to use for a dive vacation in Bonaire. The housing was very easy to use, and very light and easy to carry (there is no need for any weight system). We did not have a strobe, and had no problems with light issues. Very sharp photos and realistic colors. Both seahorses 1 foot away, and squidd 10 feet away, came out sharp. Just put it in Manual "Underwater" mode (select DISP to find this hidden selection) and drop it in the housing.
I gave the SD1200 camera a 4 star as the size is almost too small and hard to handle outside of the underwater housing, and annoying whirring noise whenever in Auto Mode used on land. Will use my older Canon SD800IS for non-underwater use (I love that camera). I would consider purchasing a different camera/housing combination with a larger display if I did it again, but definitely happy with Canon and the WP-DC20 underwater housing.

Canon Powershot S2IS.
I have a Canon Powershot S2IS. the camera is less than 2 yrs old. While taking a picture it shut itself down and the lens stayed open and an E18 error came on the screen. After some reseach and googled 40,000 complaints for this design flaw. I now have a $500 paperweight. Canon will fix it for $150 plus parts or offer to let you purchase a refurbished camera starting at $199. A class action suit was filed against Canon. I will never buy another Canon product. Im very unhappy.

Blurry and overexposed
We got this camera for my daughter for Christmas after my fater-in-law raveda about his SD1000. I cannot figure out how this camera has so many great reviews?! Are their expectations THIS low? We have a 9 year old inexpensive point and shoot that takes better photos! If everything is perfectly still and there is excellent lighting, this camera will take a decent photo. But I'd guess 90% (or more.. it's rare for us to get one that's not) of our photos of people are blurry. And the flash is worthless. It WAY overexposes pale skin tones. I'll upload some of our average photos with this camera later. I expected much better picutre qualit for one hundred seventy dollars. Our camera phones take better pictures. For what it's worth, we don't use auto mode as per other reviews, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. We did go to the store to look at this camera before we purchased and it handles well and pictures seem good looking at the lcd. But when you get them off the camera, they suck. I really enjoy photography and thought maybe my daughter could join me, but it's fairly pointless with this camera. :( I won't ever buy another canon camera and will encourage anyone thinking about it to borrow this one before they decide if canon is the brand for them.

Nice little camera
This is a nice camera. We are still testing it and so far, it has presented very good quality. It's a bit heavy for a small camera, but I guess that means that it is built well. The screen is pretty fast when turned on/off. The devices are very easy to understand, however,it is always important to read the manual to better use the camera's settings. A lot of times the reason why we don't get the results we expect is because we don't know how to use the camera properly.

BLURRRRRRRRRRY PICTURES.......
I HAD a Nikon Coolpix before this, and was pretty happy with it (has a much easier rocker-panel type zoom, rather than the ring around the shutter button that this one has!), but the lens, after a very minor trauma, broke (wouldn't retract). So, after hearing that this had happened fairly frequently with other Coolpix cameras, I decided to try a Canon. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!!!!! I take A LOT of pictures of my very active 19-month-old daughter, and a good MAJORITY of these pictures are BLURRY, even when taken in good lighting and using the autofocus feature!! SUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!!!!! I took about 20 pictures this morning, and I would say that about 12-14 (I didn't count) will have to be deleted due to blurriness! SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!! I mean, she doesn't move at lightning speed, and in some of them was BARELY moving!! I looked for ways to change the settings (shutter speed), but found NOTHING!! SO, I am VERY disappointed with this stupid camera, and am looking FORWARD to breaking it so I can go and buy another NIKON COOLPIX, which, except for the lens issue (breaking with minor trauma), took great pictures, MOST of which WEREN'T blurry!!!!!!!!!!

It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn't be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon's most innovative camera technology. Even when picture-taking conditions seem pretty unforgiving, you've got Canon on your side. So the shots you used to miss are the images you'll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD unforgettable.

Awesome Pockable Camera
Alright,
First off, I am not a pro photographer. I use a Rebel XTi, and a Leica D Lux 3, so i'm not exactly using top grade shooters. I just like to have decent pictures is all.
So, with that aside, I will say that this camera is absolutely excellent to just have on you at all times. If you are looking for insane DSLR quality pictures, obviously you should be looking elsewhere. For people who can deal with some noise here and there, its totally perfect. I'm not a camera buff that's going to nit-pick this camera. I am an average person that uses a camera everyday. Ease of use is great. Menu's, changing settings, video are all easably changable. Maybe someone with bigger hands might refute this, but it fits/feels fine in my hand.
To be honest, the noise all the way up to 800 is actually pretty good. Again, it's NOT a high end point and shoot. But for $200, it out performs my Leica in the noise department. How often do you go above 800 anyway? I know even in the lowest of light, i'm either not using this camera if I want a printable shot, or you can set the exposure to be less, then set the flash settings accordingly and it's alright.
AF is pretty quick, not say G11 fast. But with moving targets, a few days of practice should warrant you the abilities to feel comfortable of trying. This is probably the only draw back. Then again, that's why I have a DSLR for action and artsy stuff.
Overall, for a camera that is inexpensive, easy to you, and very light weight this is an awesome deal. I am very happy with this camera, and so is my fiance who I originally purchased it for.

truly pocketable camera for snapshots w/HD video, do NOT use included strap!!!
The SD780IS is a great little point & shoot pocket camera. A surprising feature given its small size is the inclusion of a viewfinder. You'll find that most digicams these days leave this out and you're forced to use the LCD screen. It is a tiny viewfinder, but nevertheless, I appreciate that one is included. I was also surprised to find that there is a Program feature, which allows the user to choose ISO, White Balance scene mode, color settings, metering & shot modes. There are no aperture or shutter speed modes, but I'm guessing if you're looking at this camera that's not a problem. I own several digital cameras of varying cost and size, but I wanted a camera that I could toss in my bag or jacket and know that I was never without a camera (without the added bulk to remind me I was always carrying one), but at the same time took decent quality photos & video and this fit the bill. Make no mistake it won't take poster quality photos, but it will do in a pinch for snapshots and facebook/myspace, etc.
Do NOT use the included wrist strap with this camera. The metal part of the strap will scrape the camera and remove the paint. I have had this camera for several months and kept it in pristine condition. The other day I put the strap on and it scraped the paint off the edge of the camera and left several shiny rub marks that could not be removed. Why they would choose to include this strap is beyond understanding. I don't know what compelled me to use the strap as I always use fabric-only straps.

Not even close to the old SD500
I bought this camera for my wife to document our new born baby.
The main thing I noticed was that the picture quality was not up to par with my old SD500 camera. Really dissapointed.
On a positive note, the video quality is really good and in HD.
Cool size, but I actually thought the bigger. It's almost too small, I would have bought a bigger camera if I new the correct size.

Nice upgrade from SD1100is
Well, it finally happened: the dreaded lens error on my SD1100is. I was about ready to automatically add the SD1200is to my Amazon cart until I hesitated for a second and decided to make a trip to Best Buy to play around with some of the other new cameras. I had read reviews on the SD780 and was really eager to see it in person. On the shelf, it automatically caught my eye with its sleek, black styling, and I was wondering if maybe it would be an even better companion than my trusty SD1100is was.
Truth of the matter is that 12.1 megapixels isn't going to be much more apparent than 10.0 MP (what the SD1200is has,) but to be honest, I just flat-out fell in love with the styling of the SD780. As someone who factors in a product's design and aesthetics almost as much as its functioning, this was a clear-cut and easy decision, but the SD780is isn't just about looks -- it delivers astonishing pictures as well! I'm not a person who likes to fuss around with settings and menus (like on DSLR cameras,) but I still want nice pictures! The simplicity of this camera is even more impressive than SD1100is, and the pictures are even sharper and more vibrant thanks to the DiG!C 4 image processor. The "Smart AUTO" feature really is just "Point and Shoot" too! Where there were certain settings to mess around with on my SD1100is
This camera makes perfect sense, really. It's easy to carry with you, very easy to use, so the chances of capturing that "picture perfect moment" have increased considerably over other cameras. The only thing that I am disappointed with seeing is "Made in China" on the bottom of the camera's casing. I have always valued Canon products because the company has always made it a point to manufacture in state-of-the-art facilities. I don't know how much a factor this is because a lot of people seem to have SD780s that were made in Japan, but be aware that at least some are made in China.

Extremely cute and usable pocket cam with very low IQ
Comparing to my DSLRs - no comparison. Comparing to my Casio Exlime, same IQ, but better video.
Pro: - Extremely cute, well build, look&feel, better than all others I've tried, Nikon Coolpix, Casio Exlime, Sony. - Great usability for a pocket P'nS cam - very responsible shutter, ultra fast FA, IS seems to be effective. - Good video quality with AF. - Intuitive user interface. No need for manual really.
Con: - Lousy picture quality. Very lousy indeed. This point alone defeats all the pros it has for my purpose. I just need something to be constantly in my pocket in case my DSLR is not available or connenient. I remember the older Digital Elph to be bigger and more expensive but with much better IQ indoor or outside. This new Elph is a lot cheaper but the IQ is just like any other cheap cam from any other brand - a huge disappointment for my purpose. Like another reviewer said - 12MB pixel is just a marketing hoax that makes the file unnecessarily big. The IQ really isn't much better than my Canon video cam shooting still at 3MB. Ok, maybe a little better :) But not by much.
Bottom line - A great pocket cam with very disappointing IQ. For my purpose, it's useless, which really is unfortunate. Because otherwise I really love this little cam.

Questions & Answers
Question : What digital camera do you recommend?
I want to buy a digital camera in the next few months and am aware some of the 'better' digital cameras are very pricey. I looked at previous questions to see which cameras are recommended but this doesn't help me make a decision, I also looked at reviews online. Could anyone answer the question stating the digital camera they use, and an example of photography they have taken using the camera without any editing and why they personally think it is a good camera (e.g. easy to use, photo quality, functions of the camera). Thanks! My budget is £500. I am open to all suggestions as this will help me make a better decision.
Answer:
This is a question only you can answer, if your keen on photography and want to get the maximum control then it has to be a DSLR. There are just too many restrictions with a compact, small sensor and shutter delay are just two. The only advantages they do have is size and portability. When you buy a DSLR you are buying into a system, the camera is just the down payment. The resolution of the camera just determines the size of picture you can print without adding (or removing pixels - 'interpolation), nothing else. As a guide a 6Mp camera will print 'natively' at a tad over A4, a 10Mp at A3+, but that does mean you can crop half the pixels away and still have enough for a good A4. I have 2 Pentax DSLR's a *istDS (6Mp) and a K10D (10Mp) this means I can use the same lens to do comparative tests. When printed at A4 size I can see no difference, even with a magnifying glass, at A3 you don't need the magnifying glass the difference is easy to see, the 10Mp K10D wins hands down. The make of DSLR does not matter one jot, the lens quality does, so go for the most functions for the money. Pentax score heavily here, having Anti Shake in camera means ALL you lenses are Anti Shake, there's not a price premium to pay as with other makes. Plus there are a massive range of quality old lenses all of which can be used on their DSLR's (with some limitations).Chris

Question : Digital camera?
I have a digital camera and its been acting weird. I won't let you take pictures because it says on the bottom right corner that its on lock. I looked through the manual and I asked a bunch of people but they don't know how to get it off lock. Anyone know?
Answer:
Well, I don't know what brand of camera you have.If you are absolutely sure it's not in the manual, how about you try Googling it... or go to the brand name website. If it doesn't say anything on their website or on Google, you can try calling a contact number (should be on the website) and just quickly ask them. They should be able to help you out.

Question : What can an advanced digital camera do that a regular point and shoot can't?
I can't afford a dslr, so I'm thinking about getting an advanced digital camera. What can an advanced digital camera do that is similar to a dslr? And what can an advanced digital camera do that a regular digital point-and-shoot can't? Thanks in advance.
Answer:
The advanced cameras will offer aperture priority, and shutter priority, and manual (ASM) modes. This allows you to control your camera to obtain certain artistic effects or shoot in difficult lighting conditions. Small P&S cameras usually don't have the ASM modes, DSLR's have ASM modes. The advanced P&S cameras usually have more zoom range over the small P&S cameras. The main difference between any P&S camera and a DSLR is the physical sensor size and interchangeable lenses. Due to sensor size, a dinky P&S and a advanced P&S won't have much difference in image quality due to the small sensors. There is a noticeable difference between P&S and DSLR in image quality due to sensor size. Most DSLRs don't have video mode or live view, but that is changing.

Question : What digital camera would be best for me and my price range this Christmas?
I want a digital camera that gives me the best point-and-click capabilities, and gives me the best quality digital photographs for around $300. I've looked at the Nikon Coolpix and some Sony and Canon camera's. Can someone that knows what their talking about give me some professional advice as to what camera would be best for me?
Answer:
If you are really on a budget and want the best quality for the money, check out the P&S Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 which has more features than most pro DSLRs that require auxiliary lenses not even equal to the single initial full-range lense that comes with the FZ28. It is reviewed at:http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_reviews/panasonic_fz28.htmlIt just came out on November 4, 2008.It's an all-in-one 10.1 megapixel DSLR camera which includes (i) built-in image stabilization; (ii) HDTV quality video [Quicktime]; (iii) a 18x zoom [27 - 486 mm (35mm equiv.)] "Leica" lense for nature photography; (iv) up to 0.39 inch macro option; (v) up to 6400 ASA; (vi) takes up to 380 pictures per 120 min. battery charge; (vii) has a "burst speed" of 13 fps; and sells new for $270 at amazon.com.Here's an actual handheld picture of the moon:http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/d5/c0/66b1810ae7a03f4d99e6c110.L.jpgGood luck!

Question : What digital slr camera is best for amateur photographers?
I really want a digital slr camera, but I don't want to spend a fortune, I've been looking at used ones, and refurbished but they're all so expensive! I've been manly looking at getting a canon EOS rebel xs. Is that a decent camera? I currently have a canon regular digital camera and I love it.
Answer:
With DSLR's your buying into a system and Canon is far and away the most expensive, closely followed by Nikon.Pentax, Olympus and Sony have many more features. They may be more expensive initially, but a soon as you start adding lenses, flashguns etc. they work out much cheaper for the same or Higher quality. You finish with a much more useful system for less money.Things to look for are a bright viewfinder, good build quality, adjustments of everyday things such as EV value, focus point, metering mode etc. without having to go into a menu. These are basic to using your camera for anything other than 'point and shoot'.Pentax and Sony offer image stabilisation in camera, so every lens you fit is image stabilised without a price premium. Pentax in particular have a massive range of older high quality lenses available for very little, all will be image stabilised.A second hand Pentax DS, which is now 5 years old, would be available at a lower price than a Nikon D40 or Canon Rebel, and is much more of a camera than either of them, it has a genuine pentaprism in the viewfinder which means a brighter image, much better build quality, the same Sony sensor that was used on the Nikon D80. The only downside is the lack of image stabilisation. Like all Pentax DSLR's it can operate as a 'focus trap' which no other make of DSLR can do.Chris

Question : digital camera?
I'm looking to buy a digital camera with at least 12MP, no less. I've been looking at the Kodak EasyShare V1233 and the Nikon Coolpix P5100. The kodak seems to be getting a lot of bad reviews on Google sites. What is your opinion?no, i want my pictures to be crystal clear.
Answer:
my opinion is 12mp point and shoots should be 8mp so the little sensors they have dont generate as much noiseaEDIT: for sharp images you need a sharp lens, so look at lens quality first, megapixels only matter if you wish to crop your images alot or do big prints. dont get conned into more megapixels means better pictures....if the lens is soft you will just get more mega pixels of softness......

Question : Is there anything a Digital camera can never replace in a Film camera?
A few years ago, people wondered whether they should go film or digital. Most of the reasons to go for film had to do with price, and the equipment you need. But after a few years, it became clear that for the average person, there was very little reason to buy film cameras instead of digital ones. The only thing I can think of that a digital camera can't ever replace is that some film cameras don't need energy. So aside from electricity to use it, is there any feature in film cameras that can never be replaced by digital cameras?
Answer:
At present, saturation characteristics of film versus digital. Film saturates in a friendly manner. Digital hard clips which causes noticeable color shifts in the saturated region. Who knows, technology may be able to reduce the saturation problems in digital camera in the future.Film cameras need energy, but you can get by with energy from a spring.

Question : What kind of digital camera do you have?
I don't really know anything about digital cameras but I want to buy one. What are the cameras called, that are not digital, just "normal" ones? I used to like those better because the quality seemed to much more professional. The lighting seemed warmer, colors seemed brighter. On digital cameras it seems that everything looks paler, etc. Is it just me? I wanted a digital camera that had those qualities to it, with a good price, if possible. What kind of digital camera do you have?
Answer:
There are film (some technophobes call them analog) and digital cameras. There's nothing more or less "professional" about film or digital. It's just a personal (or financial) choice everyone has to make for themselves. I used film and love the pictures I got from it, but I believe my digital pictures are every bit as good.Digital sensors reproduce pictures more like slide/transparency film than print/negative film. If you've never shot slides, it can be a more difficult adjustment for many. The only type of picture that film is significantly better/different than digital is black & white. B&W film is made with silver chunks that give a unique look that is very difficult for digital to reproduce. If you want the closest to film look, you'll need a D-SLR with a CMOS sensor (all the new Nikons, D5000 and above as well as Canon & most Sonys). The biggest advantages for digital are 1) less wasted materials & chemicals and 2)easily switching light sensitivities (ISO) for bright & dark.I use a Nikon D300 and love it.

Question : What digital camera would you suggest for recording a low budget film?
It's an extremely low budget movie.I would like to use a digital camera to record it because digital cameras are obviously cheaper and easier to use.Should I record a movie with a digital camera or would it look to cheap? If I can, what digital camera would you suggest? If you say no to the digital camera idea, what other camera should I use (that's low-priced preferrably)?
Answer:
What is extreme low budget? It would have been really helpful if you could have told us how much you budgeted for equipment. Trying use a digital camera with video capability is going to give you very crappy and shaky video with even crappier sound. If you want the best audio possible with decent video (640 x 480) then I would recommend the Samson Zoom Q3 Handy Video Recorder for about $250.00. This little device has a professional level stereo microphone so you will capture great audio. If you are looking at something with HD capability then I would recommend the Sanyo Xacti VPC-TH1 for about $230.00. The Sanyo will give you more flexibility and better picture (720p) with decent sound. Trying to spend less $250.00 for equipment to record even a low budget film will result in totaly wasted video and sound. You also have to remember time is money and after spending all that time and effort shooting the film you end with really crappy video and sound.....well you do the math.
