Don't buy this item
I purchased this cable before I saw these reviews. Thought I could hook my projector to the hdmi output of my Blu Ray player. No joy. When you want to return the cable you will only get store credit for the price of the cable, not shipping, and that's after you pay to ship the cable back.. SCAMMMMM

¡¡¡DON'T BUY IT!!!
This cable do NOTHING. I drop my money away buyng this. I have a ps3 and a samsung syncmaster 206nw. No way, this cable doesn't work.

Digital to Analog?
The guys at Best Buy and Radioshack both told me that HDMI is digital and VGA is analog, so there is no way to go from one to the other without some kind of converter box. I would like to know how they overcame this issue with this cable; based on the reviews, it does not seem like they have.
Also, the price is very low when compared to other devices and cables that convert connection types, which makes me think it is "to good to be true".

DOESN'T WORK
DONT BUY THIS!!! It doesn't work. If you need to convert from hdmi to vga, get a HDMI to DVI cable and a DVI to VGA adapter. You will have to live without sound.
Rating :
Can't ever work
Simple. This is a scam.
It cannot work.
HDMI is a digital encoding standard (and a lot more). VGA & composite are analoge standards. A cable can never, ever do that conversion without added electronics (and conversion that way round is hard and expensive, by the way).
This is not going to do what you want. Forget it.

Garbage!!!!!
I love buying an item that does not work. Even after reading reviews about what it's used for it still doesn't work with ANYTHING!!! It's like somebody came up with an idea to create an improbable wire that people want but will never actually work and RIP people off!!!!!!!
Rating :
understand that HDMI = input and VGA = output
People seem to be buying this item expecting it to be VGA to HDMI, or bi-directional. This was made to send the video from your HDMI source, to your VGA display. If you're trying to convert a VGA signal to an HDMI signal, you need to convert and get a proper cable.. much more expensive. ..but stop marking this thing poorly because you don't know what you're buying. It's not a bad product, it's just getting bad reviews from people who can't do research or for that matter, read.

Incorrect assumptions
An HDMI cable is purely digital (1's and 0's) while VGA is completely analog (waves). You will most likely be wasting your time purchasing this product unless your device has some magical way of outputting analog signals through its HDMI port. The product still gets 2 starts for being honest and saying don't try to connect your VGA port on your desktop or laptop computer to an HDMI port on your display, but I seriously doubt that it will work in any situation.
The idea solution to someone looking for a way to do this is if they had a an HDMI cable attached to your device and a signal converter (these are currently north of $100 as of the time of this review, closer to $170) and then a VGA cable going out from that to your monitor, similarly this is how you could go from your computer to converter box to HDMI to TV.
If you're wondering "Well, DVI is a digital interface and there are cables that go from VGA to DVI and it works perfectly fine!" its because the DVI interface actually has half analog pins (DVI-A) and the other half is digital, which is how it is capable of taking VGA signals. HDMI cables do not have any compensation for this conversion at all.

doesn't work...
The product description states, "This HDMI to VGA HD15 (Male) connects your HDMI-equipped device, HDTV (NOT FROM COMPUTER OR LAPTOP) to your monitor. The HDMI-equipped devices include...Playstation system"
Well, I connected this cable from my PS3 (in the above list) to my VGA input projection monitor (ACER XD1150) and the projector does not recongnize the signal. Based on the description I can think of no reason why this wouldn't work. The ACER takes the same exact input and works the same way as a computer monitor. The PS3 is an approved device. Yet, the signal is not recognized. My only conclusion is that the cord fails to convert the signal from HDMI to VGA making it useless.
Rating :
GARBAGE !!!! USELESS CORD!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!
I bought this piece of garbage and I just happened to miss the fine print about how it wont work with computers ... Great!!! the only reason I bought it lol... now it is not even worth sending it back for a return as I will probably only get maybe 10 dollars back lol.. what a waste!! DO NOT BUY THIS CORD!!!!!

Questions & Answers Powered by Yahoo! Answers
Question : How do coaxial, composite, VGA, s-video, DVI, component, and HDMI work together
They carry digital and analog, as the source determines, but who knows what type of signal is transmitted They convert/adapter, but who knows about the analog losses, or the digital quality They transmit PAL, NTSC, 720p, and 1080i, but when are the signals upgraded or downgraded, and which standard is best for a given display (TV/monitor) How are the analog and digital conversion losses best minimized
Answer:
Any time you convert from one signal to another, you are subject to loss. And just as a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, the picture quality is only as good a the poorest signal format in the stream. Ideally, An all digital signal path would be best.

Question : What is the best/cheapest way to hook-up a laptop to an HDTV that doesn't have VGA inputs
I have an hp dv9005us laptop and i want to connect it to my LCD 52" sharp aquos, which only has composite, component, s-video, and HDMI inputs. My laptop only has VGA and s-video outputs. Would a simple VGA-component adapter cable work I read that VGA-HDMI cables don't really work because they dont convert the signal.
Answer:
this site will give you a sony vaio laptop just for completing some quick online tasks really recommend it, especially if you're broke but really want/need a laptop (like me).
