Question : What should I do, my USB ports stop working
I have a HP Compaq Presario V3500 with 3 USB ports that I've been using for almost a year.I also have this A4 Tech optical mouse which came with the purchased laptop and a Creative Vista Cam. Both of them are pretty functioning before 10hours ago. (Yes, I have this problem for 10hours).The mouse's lights intermittently turns on and off and wouldn't respond until BOOM, it's completely OFF. I tried plugging it again, failure. Transferring to the other ports, failed. I tried plugging the cam, on for some seconds, then failed.I've contacted HP Online but their solutions are unsuccessful as well.I've tried: (HP suggestions)>Uninstalling USB Root Hubs in device manager, restarting the system, F10 in startup, load defaults, F10>Uninstall in DM, scan for hardware changes>Installed a chipset for Vista from HP site.>Checked powers in USB root : <500 Amperes, in fact, 0 amperes.FEEDBACK IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED. I have pending work and I need the mouse. Thanks a lot, people
Answer:
Given that you tried most of the standard responses to a situation like yours, I would diagnosis that you have a bad motherboard. The USB functions of most laptops are a part of the motherboard assembly, therefore the motherboard will need to be changed out. Another clue is that you have 0 amperes, which means that it is a "catastrophic" failure, meaning hardware in nature not software.

Answer:
All the bla you put down was unneeded, if it runs vista, it will run xp. You will however need a valid copy of xp and then install all the drivers for your model with xp drivers
