Question : Can I get this game to work with an unsupported graphics card
I played a demo of "Prey" for the PC a few months ago, and it ran fine, I loved the game. I found it in the sale for £8 today and snapped it up. When I got home and tried it out, it didn't work. I'm guessing it's to do with the fact that I have a Radeon 9550 graphics card and the lowest one specified on the box as a supported card is 9600. Should the game run with a lower spec card If so, I've got a different problem. If it is the graphics card issue, is there any way around itCheersThanks for the answer. I thought as much. Normally it's the first thing I check, but for some reason it didn't cross my mind. By the way, I appreciate that it's called a "requirement" for a reason, I just wondered if that was my problem, or if I could expect it work, if slowly, with my graphics card and therefore the problem lay elsewhere. I'll assume its the card.
Answer:
Yes you have a problem. No, the game is not supposed to run with lower spec card. That's why it's called a REQUIREMENT. Publishers don't like to put requirements as it cuts off a part of their market, but developers have to ensure their graphics engine will work right and they have to establish a cutoff SOMEWHERE. And the only way around it is a new video card, as you have no idea what sort of detection algorithm or 3D engine it uses. Even if you are able to work around it, the time you spent fiddling with it will NOT guarantee you a proper frame rate that is playable.
