Editorial Review :
Canon looked to the very first ELPH for inspiration when designing the PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH, and came up with a quintessential iteration of the icon: slim, clean-lined and fully flat. Inside, the SD1000 Digital ELPH looks only to the future: 7.1 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom and advanced DIGIC III ensure top-quality images, while focus is fast and sharp and red-eye is automatically corrected. The large and more colorful LCD screen now has a tough, anti-reflective coating that makes it as durable as it is beautiful.

Short Camera Life
I bought my Canon Power Shot SD1000 in May of 2008. By October 2009 none of the functions worked. This camera was well taken care of and always in a protective case when not in use. Of course the warranty has run out (12 months). The Canon service center in Elk Village IL wants $115.10 to fix it including tax and shipping. My old Olympus still works after 5 years and i can get a new Nicon with comparable features for less than the cost of repair. I'm disappointed that Canon doesn't stand by their product.

I love my Canon!
The Canon SD1000 is the best digital I've ever used. The only downgrade I can give it is the size of the display...and that's only because I'm used to a Nikon film-type with a 70-200 zoom. Plus I've gotta like anything "SDxxx" 'cause those are MY initials too!

Fantastic Little Camera!
I won this camera at a "Project Graduation" event my senior year of high school. Since then I have taken over 4,000 shots and have put it through nearly three years of regular use. Here are my observations:
Build Quality
With bead-blasted aluminum front and back plates, this camera has a solid, mini brick-like feel in your hand. The LCD proved resilient to scratching (although I babied mine and always kept it in a soft case) but the aluminum finish picks up fingerprints and smears very easily. Buttons are high quality but the mode switch has a little play in it. The lens barrel is tight with no shifting and the zoom motor is very quiet.
Image Quality
Outdoors with good light I always set the ISO to 80 and this little camera delivers crisp detailed pictures with great color and contrast. However, venture above ISO 200 and your pictures will become grainy and lose detail. This is a consequence of pixel-packed sensors (many modern cameras with 14+ MP sensors are far worse!). The lens provides a useful range, but 35mm on the wide end isn't terrific. Canon makes PowerShots today with 28mm and even 24mm settings. The aperture is a generous-for-the-size 2.8-4.9 variable across the zoom range.
Features
I love the interface. It's simple with no clutter and everything is where you want it. The dedicated ISO button is a boon. The LCD is bright and sharp with a good viewing angle. One nice hidden feature is the ability to shoot up to fifteen second exposures. I've produced some very nice night shots with this setting (although a tripod is needed).
Closing Statements
I used the SD1000 as a daylight companion to my EOS 30D DSLR and it delivered at low ISOs. I've recently sold it and traded up to the new PowerShot S90 which delivers superb, almost DSLR-like high ISO results. That said, the SD1000 churned out consistent, beautiful images and never gave me any headaches. In today's complicated world, this is a blessing.

Great camera if you take care of it
I got ahold of one of these with the infamous "stuck lens" issue. After repairing it and getting it working 100%, I'd like to share my thoughts about this camera.
For a tiny compact, this camera takes excellent pictures. Chromatic aberration (purple fringing) is minimal and there is excellent sharpness. It's fast too!
The reason for the lens being stuck was that it was full of grit - basically sand and what looked like body glitter! Realize this: whenever the lens extends, it creates a vacuum effect and sucks in whatever is around the camera; the camera is not perfectly sealed. If you keep the camera in a dirty environment, or (as is tempting with a camera this size) just drop it into your lint-filled pocket or purse without any protection, that stuff will eventually get inside the lens, and eventually jam it up.
The internal gears that drive the lens are sturdy and were none the worse for wear. After cleaning, the lens operates smoothly, and while the parts are made of plastic, it seems to be a durable plastic.
The moral of the story: just keep the camera clean and it will probably last forever.

Good camera but bad seller
I love the camera, is so tiny that I can take it everywhere. But when I bought it the battery was damage, so I called the seller and they never send me other. I have to buy a new one again in other store.

My second Casio cam!
I've always been fascinated by Casio cameras. Even though a lot of them are manufactured in my country, they're not readily available in stores here. So I have to purchase them from Japan or the U.S.
I bought this as a gift to my mom. It was an upgrade from our old Z60 cam, which I loved so much. In comparison to the Z60, the build of this S880 seemed far less superior. The steel case was somehow replaced by a plastic one, which eventually broke in a few months.
Overall performance of the camera is great! I love the ease of use and my mother has no problem using it either. It has a better DOF than the Z60.
Anyway, I'm still going to buy a Casio cam next time though :) I just love Casio cams.

Don't waste money on a warantee the company won't honor
I had this camera for 8 months and loved it. Then one day it stopped working. I put it on the charger and nothing...I took it to a camera store thinking that it was the battery but a new battery that worked in other store cameras didn't work in my camera. It was under warantee so I sent it into Casio. They claim that there is some crack on the frame of the camera which voids the warantee. I didn't see anything when I sent it and now they want $90 to fix the cracked frame. I wanted them to send the camera back. They won't send it until I pay them $10 for shipping. What a rip-off. I won't buy from Casio again. I wouldn't recommend them either. I would (and have) purchased from a real camera company, not from some company trying to branch out into cameras.

Quite working in less than a year
My experience is very similar to a previous poster. I bought this particular camera because it is very slim and portable and has a nice crisp view. But in less than a year it just quit working. I thought it must be the battery and wasted $40 buying a new one, just to find that the new battery didn't help the situation. I don't believe I'll waste any more money on it. I'll just go back to my old Sony camera, which is the brand I should have bought in the first place.

EASY TO USE
This camera is easy to use and gives you great photos. This is my third Casio and I love it. When I'm taking pictures of my grandchildren, I put it on 'continuous' and then keep 'snapping' -- there's always a some good ones in there. And it's easy to shoot videos --- simply press the red button and that's all there is to it.

A Swiss Army Knife of a Compact Camera
For taking photos to enlarge, frame, and hang on the wall, I use my digital SLR. But the SLR is not portable. This is. I have this trusty little fellow in a small case on my belt most of the time. It has every feature that I need to effectively take a good photo or video with stereo sound instantaneously. It's small and not ever in the way, and because of this I am able to keep a photo diary of important life events in a easy, non cumbersome fashion. Used the camera on a 5 week travel trip through the middle east and europe in June. It was always handy and competently took photos and videos that were relatively superb for such a small camera. Doesn't come close to my SLR for photos, but the cameras fill two distinctly different but important roles in my photography life. Other reviews have said most of what I have to say.
********************************************************************** I just want to add two more things - quite important to me: The video is amazing good and file sizes amazingly small considering the small size of this swiss army knife camera. Also, you can set the megapixel resolution down from 8mp to 6,4, and 2 to pull out up to 14x Optical (not digital) zoom (at 2mp). Sure, you have less megapixels for resolution and cropping, but you will end up with an amazingly clear snapshot of a red-headed woodpecker at 50 feet using the 14x optical zoom at the 2mp setting. Give it a try, it is absolutely remarkable. *********************************************************************
It has its limitations as mentioned in other reviews, but come on, nothing can be expected to do it all perfectly. But this one does most everything, and granting a bit of compromise (I get a kick out of the guy who rates it bad because of some features that cause a blinking light or text on the menu...), wins the small camera ideal and comes in at the present head of the class. For this semester, A+ Casio.

Great camera. kenrockwell.com has a great website and rated the camera well and I bought it based on his review and my experience with an earlier model casio. The 7x zoom is rare for a camera this size and the lense does not extend and retract from the camera. That is one of most common things to break on a camera.

Ooooouch!!!! Careful!!
I ordered the Casio EX V8 on Amazon in late November to give as a gift.Upon opening it was discovered that the scroll buttons were inoperable and the camera would not function. When contacting the supplier I was told since it was past the 21 day return window, there was nothing they could do! I am now contacting Amazon to see if their customer service department is as good as they claim to be. Sorry I can't rate the camera because it was dead on arrival...I guess that says something in and of itself. If Amazon can make things right, I will be more than happy to update.

Casio rip-off
My $200 camera went bad from a VERY COMMONLY reported manufacturing defect "camera stabilizer is not available" error message in the model I had. Since this is a common defect from the manufacture, they should have fixed my camera at their expense, but they refused to fix it without me having to pay $100 something for their manufacturing defect plus shipping charges! Don't buy Casio products! They don't stand behind the quality of their products.

Great camera, but insufficient manual. Here is a better manual...
This camera packs a lot of features for a pocket-size point & shoot. And you can't beat the 7X optical zoom range (38 to 266mm equivalent). It also allows you to bracket up to +-2 full stops, in addition to its having presets for a variety of lighting situations. Its anti-shake capabilities are a must. There are some limitations in the parameter ranges for its various manual modes. Strangely "M" (fully manual) mode does not allow you to preview the results of your settings, but "A" (aperature priority) mode, and "S" (shutter speed) mode, do.
The manual is totally insufficient -- it does not explain any of the advanced features. If you want to understand your camera, you need to read some of the excellent in-depth reviews by googling "ex-v8 review". DigitalCameraInfo has a thirteen-page review.

Question : Does a red face and hands from stress indicate high blood pressure
Hi allWhen I get stressed, my face and hands seem to go red and sometimes this leads to dermatitis.I am just wondering if this is related to high blood pressure (I am 140/90) or something else as it has not always happened.I don't smoke, rarely drink, and go to the gym 2-3 times a week.Is there a herbal remedy in which I can overcome it because I find the dermatitis more than the red face very annoying to say the least. I kind of only flares up when my face goes red and I have to use a cream to quell it. At any other time it's ok.Thanks

Question : Why does my face turn red and stay like that throughtout the day
I'm in tenth grade and I turn red all the time, even when I am talking to my friends. I used to be a straight A student but now I do the bare minimum to get Bs so I don't have to talk in front of the class. 75% of my school makes fun of me for it. I am not shy I am loud and outgoing so it's not from shyness. I haven't had a girl friend because of this. What can I do to relieve myself of this problem Any medicine
