Sprint's Award-Winning One Click Interface

The Sprint One Click interface.
This phone features Sprint's One Click navigation interface, which places eight shortcut tiles along the bottom of the home screen. Instead of navigating through endless phone menus, you can put the things you use the most--features like call logs, texting, Web access and GPS navigation--right up front with instant information related to each feature. For example, when you scroll to text messaging, you'll see the number of new messages received and a single click takes take you to the newest messages. Here's how it works:
  • Add your favorite items to the carousel, which is a row of tiles along the bottom of your phone's home screen.
  • The carousel can hold up to 15 tiles, which you can add, remove and rearrange to suit your needs.
  • Highlight a tile to reveal its menu on your home screen.
  • Add up to 8 "bubbles"--at-a-glance items that display on your home screen, like the weather or your daily horoscope.
  • Browse and download new tiles from your phone's "Personalize Home Screen" tile. New tiles are available every two weeks.
  • Press your navigation left or right key to select a tile; up or down to select a bubble or menu item.
  • The "Home" tile always stays put, so you can easily get back to your default display.

Great Phone with Limitations

This phone looks good. I actually have the version for Boost Mobile that is like a mirror and I paid $125.00 for it with no plan.

What I like.
1. The front of the phone looks cool and you can dial from the Keypad in front
2. It has a little slide bar in the bottom that unlocks the phone. I once had a phone with dialing in the front and it was always dialing numbers. I like that I can't accidentally dial out.
3. The Keyboard is very spacious for a phone keypad lots of space in between the numbers I don't need to use my fingernail to text on this phone.
4. Contrary to another post. This phone uses standard Micro USB adaptor for charging. I was in a hurry to be complete and wanted the ability to easily make return in the event that the equipment wouldn't work so I bought it at Target. It uses the same adaptors as the Blackberry. No proprietary charging interface like someone else wrote
5. It has a 2.5mm jack at the top. My Motorola phone didn't so I had needed to buy a funky adaptor to use with the Motorola phone. This one I can use a standard headset. Naturally it also has bluetooth but for me bluetooth is another battery to charge.

6. Another nice feature was that the guy in Radio Shack hooked my old phone with this one using BlueTooth and transferred all my contacts phone to phone. My daughter was disappointed because usually when I buy a new phone I pay her to transfer the contacts but I was thrilled. Walking out of the store with a phone with all my contacts was sweet.

What I don't like.
1. It is a little proprietary in the software so if I want to use a GPS system I have to pay for it. It won't operate with the free Google GPS. It will access Google Maps so you can get directions but you can't use the GPS feature without paying.
2. That slide bar can be a little hard to find when answering a call. I found a way around that though. You can set the phone in settings to "answer any Key" and to answer the phone just open it really quickly and tap any key on the inside close the cover and you are off and running.

3. I don't like that as soon as you are on a call key guard comes in to play and to hang up the call you have to use the slider than hang up the call. I tried disabling Keyguard but the front of the phone is activated electrostatically and my cheek making contact with the phone caused vibrations. So disabling Keyguard is not an option.

4. In Bright sunlight I was unable to see the front display. I was able to access my contacts and make a call in bright sunlight by opening the phone

5. The front display, when phone is closed is a little small so I would have liked a few extra lines showing. Would make it easier to find contacts.

In summation this is a really great phone for texting and all around use. The spacious keyboard and the Styling make up for the drawbacks. I am satisfied with my purchase. Also the pricing is a sweet spot for me. I just didn't want to pay the extra $100.00 for the BlackBerry and the Keyboard Layout is superior to the BlackBerry too.

Great phone

This is a great midrange phone. It does more than what most people probably use and almost as much as a smartphone. Unless you are in the market for a smartphone this is a great overall product.I wont go over everything it does.(read the descrition on that) It does most of it very well and there is an update coming to make it(the boost version)better and programs like operamini 5 that makes the web browsing almost like computer browsing. Battery life is great with normal usuage. Like ANY cell phone out there if you use it all day long to text, talk and browse its probably not going to last the 5.1 hours of talk time.LOL

I know some have an issue with the placement for the lock button. Im left handed so it works well for me. When locking or turning the phone on just hold in in your left hand use your thumb than switch hands. Not a big del really.

As for the other gripes from comments here (namely the 2 and 1 star reviews)they are nitpicky and very unfair. Especially the one star review by 2ONfpr5r. He cant even open the phone because he doesnt know the orientation.LOLOLOLOLOL simple. The phone is opened from the right side. You will know if the phone is upside down it the reciever/speaker hole is on the top and the sprint/boost logo is on the bottom. If you are reading sprint or boost mobile upside down you know you are holding the phone wrong.lol Why 2ONfpr5n had a problem with this is beyond me. Not a good thing(and stupid) to complain about. Oh and these types of phones arent engineeered to be opened with one hand as our 1 star reviewer seems to feel.(another complaint he had) A side clamshell has to be opened with two, if not you run the risk of dropping it. This is not as small as a flip phone and shouldnt be treated as such.

Good

I got this phone yesterday and I really like it. The menu navigation is simple to use. I just wish the front screen had more features. This phone is perfect for extreme texters.

Rating :

Good phone for texting/email/browsing

Pros: Comfortable keyboard for email/texting. Nice sized screen and pretty good web browser for mobile web. Decent build quality and nice look/feel.

Cons: Cover keypad auto-locks too quickly during a phone conversation - can be quite annoying when you need to enter numbers. No advanced productivity features. Very poor app support.

Bottom line: A good phone if you just use it for browsing/texting/email. The browser is good, and the email interface (with common mail servers such as Google and Yahoo!) is easy to use. This phone is clearly designed for a younger group of customers who mainly text, browse, use Facebook and Tweeter. It is not designed for professionals at all. If you want a smartphone that loads Google Maps with full features, runs various productivity softwares and is great for voice calling and multimedia, look elsewhere.

I purchased this phone not from Spring but from Boost Mobile for its pay as you go plan with wireless 3G data service at a very, very reasonable price. If you are like me, someone who spends a lot of time in front of computers at work and at home, mostly make internet voice calls on computers, doesn't need so many minutes as on regular monthly cell phone plans and doesn't want to pay for the over-priced data plan for mobile web... then for you this would be a good little extra device for mobile web browsing when you don't have a computer or WIFI connection on you main cell phone.

If you need a monthly calling plan with data service and are willing to pay for it, many other phones are much, much better.

Bye Bye Sprint, Hello Boost Mobile?

Where's your cash at? I know where mine is...

My bill went from a varying +/- $100 a month with Sprint to a fixed $54 a month "unlimited with Boost Mobile"... And "Boost CDMA" phones run on the Sprint network. Never dropped a call since I got it, my GF who has AT&T gets more drops lol. Sprint has been robbing me for over 8 years! Prepaid is the way to go today, I know prepaid sounds bad, but hey who doesn't have to cut spending nowadays?

Phone Features
The Sanyo Katana Eclipse X features a unique illumination capability that allows you to assign lighting effects to specific callers as well as alerts and messages. The 40 different lighting effects include blink, pulse, echo, and multi-color patterns. They're handy for identifying a call in low-light situations like movie theaters where you need to turn your ringer off as well as a noisy environment such as a nightclub. In addition to customizing calls and messages, the illumination patterns can be assigned to the music playing mode, just for fun, or can be completely disabled for those times when the feature is not desired.

When new calls or messages come in, the front of the phone can illuminate using 40 different lighting effects.

The exterior of the phone includes dedicated music playback controls.
This clamshell phone sports dual LCD screens, with an interior 2-inch screen with a 176 x 220-pixel resolution and 65K color depth complemented by an external 1-inch, 65K-color screen. The outside of the clamshell also includes dedicated music playback controls (which provide part of the phone's lighting effects, in addition to the lights along the side of the clamshell). The phone has an internal 10 MB memory, which can be expanded via MicroSD/MicroSDHC memory cards (up to 8 GB in size). The phonebook can store up to 500 contact entries (with the ability to store 700 phone numbers, 1,000 email and 500 Web addresses) and support for caller groups and picture/ringer ID.

  • The "Home" tile always stays put, so you can easily get back to your default display.

Handsfree communication is easy thanks to the integrated speakerphone. This phone also provides Bluetooth wireless connectivity 2.0, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and file transfer. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server (requires Phone As Modem Service Plan).

The 1.3-megapixel camera offers three resolution options (1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels), and it features a 12x digital zoom three quality settings, five picture modes (including night and snow), multi-shot capabilities, and a self-timer. You can also capture video clips up to QCIF resolution (176 x 144 pixels) in short clips capped at 25 seconds for sending via messaging or for as long as you have room on your memory card for saving.

A stylish phone with obvious limits

First, the phone is stylish. It is well-designed and the different lighting on the surface of the phone is a nice feature. Buttons are well arranged too.

But the phone does have two big drawbacks: The small and tiny LCD main screen. The main LCD is obviously outdated giving such a small size. The four-year old Samsung A900 has a much bigger and better LCD screen than this. The second drawback is the camera. Only 1.3M? It is outdated too.
Hope that Sanyo can come up with something better soon!

Unlucky victim of unhelpful service and unreliable phone

So, about two months ago I decided to drop off of my parents verizon wireless plan and go with Sprint and get myself a brand new phone. I had looked at this phone before and just thought the world of it. So one day I went and bought it, and life was great for the first week.

A week and a day after owning the phone, at around 10:20am the phone COMPLETELY lost reception (I could not make calls, texts, or even call 911 if I needed to). I find out later through my frustration that Orlando has a 99% success rate for calls and there is no reason I should have lost reception. I drove about 12 miles from where I lost reception to their store and I still had none. Up until dropping my phone off, it had no reception for about 4-5 hours. I take it to the store, they tell me they programmed it wrong.

I get it back the next day and they tell me it's working and I have no reason to doubt them. I get to work and discover the phone still has no reception (my fault, I should have checked, let's give Sprint this one and don't complain about it). Come to find out the tech forgot to link my phone to my phone number, but there also was another issue so i had to get a different phone again. Irritating, but still my fault for not checking, I can't 'really' blame them for it.

Well guess what? A week and a day after getting my phone back around 10am to 10:30am (that seems to be a bit coincidental yea?) the phone completely loses reception....again. After driving back to the sprint store, completely frustrated and angry about this piss poor phone (which by the way, this is the 3'rd phone I had recieved in around 2.5 weeks, which meant all three different phones had some problem with it), the customer service tech had the balls to tell me, and I quote "Oh you are the guy that ____ has been helping right? Well I know the issue you are having, I don't know what the problem is and I don't feel like looking at your phone, so you can either buy a different type of phone or cancel your service"

Obviously, I ate the $36 activation fee, got all my money back, told Sprint exactly what their tech had said to me, and delightfully told them that her rudeness and obvious dislike for her job was 80% of my reason for cancelling my service.

I have yet to see another review on this phone with the problems I had, so I guess the store I went to just didn't have trained professionals, but if you go to get this phone, I wish you luck. It looks great and I love the LED feature, but for me it just didn't work out

One of the best Sanyo phones ever

Eclipse has a great style. I find this black phone impressive. It has lights on the outside. If you're wondering whether to go for the Eclipse or the LX, go for the Eclipse because it has a better build quality, a better design, is not as easy to scratch and the display outside has three buttons. This phone does not come with headsets, you'll have to buy them. The battery life is excellent and the interface is much improved over the Katana LX. The Eclipse is available in Pink, Black and Silver. The keys are silver and firm to touch while the keys on the LX were black in colour. I would take either the Silver or Black Eclipse for myself but honestly the black just makes you feel so good. Light, easy to operate, loud reception, this phone is near perfect. Highly recommended.

Sanyo Katana Eclipse X

I purchased the Eclipse to upgrade from the original Sanyo Katana. My only complaint about the original Katana was that the ringer was too soft. Even at the highest volume setting, it was sometimes difficult to hear the phone ring. I was very pleased to see that the Eclipse does not have this problem. In fact, I actually had to turn the volume down a bit. This is a huge improvement from the original Katana.

The phone is stylish with a huge, bright LCD screen. The case of the phone lights up when you receive a call, and you can customize the color of the lights to personalize the phone. The battery life is excellent. The phone itself is very durable, the buttons are firm and spaced far enough apart that you're not likely to accidentally press the wrong button. The camera and camcorder work well, and it's nice to have the option to save photos and videos to the microSD card.

I've had my phone for over a month, have used it regularly and it hasn't dropped a single call. I highly recommend the Eclipse.

Brand New Sanyo SCP-6600 Katana Standard Lithium-Ion Battery (770 mAh)

Customer Review :

Dies quickly

Maybe it's my phone, but when the battery status is at 'low battery' it dies pretty quickly when you are talking. I drain the battery down as much as possible before i charge it, and it only took a few cycles before it got to the point where i have to charge it every other day (only average about 20-30min of talk & 5 texts per day).

Rating :

Good

This battery replaced my original. It works very well. Holds the charge for a few days.

So Far So Good!

Installed the two new batteries in my two Katana phones, and charged them up. They are working up to specs, no problemo. I don't usually buy from small companies I don't know, but I trust Amazon Marketplace and they haven't let me down yet!

Rating :

Works as advertised

No need to buy the battery from Sprint. I had a problem with the original battery after 3 months and this replacement works just fine.

Can't beat the price

This battery has about the same charge life as the one I was replacing, but it was really inexpensive!

Questions & Answers Powered by Yahoo! Answers
Question : What type of ps1 memory cards work on the ps2
I was told that you could play ps1 games on a ps2 with a ps1 memory card. But I also know for a fact, from what I've read, that some ps1 memory cards don't work on a ps2 because of size issues, or fitting problems I'm not sure about either of these. Could someone please confirm my suspicions Thanks

Answer:
i would imagine that all ps1 cards would fit into the ps2 slots because they are all the same size, you can play ps1 games on ps2 with or without a memory card you just wont be able save your game without one or on a ps2 card, try seaching the website below for more details

Question : What's the difference between classes of SD Memory Cards
What is the difference between different classes of SD Memory Cards (Class 2, Class 54, etc...) I have seen Ultra/High Speed SD Memory Cards listed as Class 2 and have seen non Ultra/High Speed SD Memory Cards with Class 4 ratings. What's the difference Does class really make a significant difference Is one class better suited for Still pictures and one better for videos

Answer:
The only difference is how quickly they transfer data between two devices. It doesn't effect how a picture it taken. It may effect how quickly the quick shot come up on your camera (but only minimally). Check your camera's manual to see if there is a specific class of SD card they suggest you get, otherwise there is very little difference.
