Good phone for texting/email/browsing

Pros: Comfortable keyboard for email/texting. Nice sized screen and pretty good web browser for mobile web. Decent build quality and nice look/feel.

Cons: Cover keypad auto-locks too quickly during a phone conversation - can be quite annoying when you need to enter numbers. No advanced productivity features. Very poor app support.

Bottom line: A good phone if you just use it for browsing/texting/email. The browser is good, and the email interface (with common mail servers such as Google and Yahoo!) is easy to use. This phone is clearly designed for a younger group of customers who mainly text, browse, use Facebook and Tweeter. It is not designed for professionals at all. If you want a smartphone that loads Google Maps with full features, runs various productivity softwares and is great for voice calling and multimedia, look elsewhere.

I purchased this phone not from Spring but from Boost Mobile for its pay as you go plan with wireless 3G data service at a very, very reasonable price. If you are like me, someone who spends a lot of time in front of computers at work and at home, mostly make internet voice calls on computers, doesn't need so many minutes as on regular monthly cell phone plans and doesn't want to pay for the over-priced data plan for mobile web... then for you this would be a good little extra device for mobile web browsing when you don't have a computer or WIFI connection on you main cell phone.

If you need a monthly calling plan with data service and are willing to pay for it, many other phones are much, much better.

Great phone

This is a great midrange phone. It does more than what most people probably use and almost as much as a smartphone. Unless you are in the market for a smartphone this is a great overall product.I wont go over everything it does.(read the descrition on that) It does most of it very well and there is an update coming to make it(the boost version)better and programs like operamini 5 that makes the web browsing almost like computer browsing. Battery life is great with normal usuage. Like ANY cell phone out there if you use it all day long to text,talk and browse its probably not going to last the 5.1 hours of talk time.LOL

I know some have an issue with the placement for the lock button. Im left handed so it works well for me. When locking or turning the phone on just hold in in your left hand use your thumb than switch hands. Not a big del really.

As for the other gripes from comments here (namely the 2 and 1 star reviews)they are nitpicky and very unfair. Especially the one star review by 2ONfpr5r. He cant even open the phone because he doesnt know the orientation.LOLOLOLOLOL simple. The phone is opened from the right side. You will know if the phone is upside down it the reciever/speaker hole is on the top and the sprint/boost logo is on the bottom. If you are reading sprint or boost mobile upside down you know you are holding the phone wrong.lol Why 2ONfpr5n had a problem with this is beyond me. Not a good thing(and stupid) to complain about. Oh and these types of phones arent engineeered to be opened with one hand as our 1 star reviewer seems to feel.(another complaint he had) A side clamshell has to be opened with two, if not you run the risk of dropping it. This is not as small as a flip phone and shouldnt be treated as such.

Great Phone with Limitations

This phone looks good. I actually have the version for Boost Mobile that is like a mirror and I paid $125.00 for it with no plan.

What I like.
1. The front of the phone looks cool and you can dial from the Keypad in front
2. It has a little slide bar in the bottom that unlocks the phone. I once had a phone with dialing in the front and it was always dialing numbers. I like that I can't accidentally dial out.
3. The Keyboard is very spacious for a phone keypad lots of space in between the numbers I don't need to use my fingernail to text on this phone.
4. Contrary to another post. This phone uses standard Micro USB adaptor for charging. I was in a hurry to be complete and wanted the ability to easily make return in the event that the equipment wouldn't work so I bought it at Target. It uses the same adaptors as the Blackberry. No proprietary charging interface like someone else wrote
5. It has a 2.5mm jack at the top. My Motorola phone didn't so I had needed to buy a funky adaptor to use with the Motorola phone. This one I can use a standard headset. Naturally it also has bluetooth but for me bluetooth is another battery to charge.

6. Another nice feature was that the guy in Radio Shack hooked my old phone with this one using BlueTooth and transferred all my contacts phone to phone. My daughter was disappointed because usually when I buy a new phone I pay her to transfer the contacts but I was thrilled. Walking out of the store with a phone with all my contacts was sweet.


What I don't like.
1. It is a little proprietary in the software so if I want to use a GPS system I have to pay for it. It won't operate with the free Google GPS. It will access Google Maps so you can get directions but you can't use the GPS feature without paying.
2. That slide bar can be a little hard to find when answering a call. I found a way around that though. You can set the phone in settings to "answer any Key" and to answer the phone just open it really quickly and tap any key on the inside close the cover and you are off and running.

3. I don't like that as soon as you are on a call key guard comes in to play and to hang up the call you have to use the slider than hang up the call. I tried disabling Keyguard but the front of the phone is activated electrostatically and my cheek making contact with the phone caused vibrations. So disabling Keyguard is not an option.

4. In Bright sunlight I was unable to see the front display. I was able to access my contacts and make a call in bright sunlight by opening the phone

5. The front display, when phone is closed is a little small so I would have liked a few extra lines showing. Would make it easier to find contacts.


In summation this is a really great phone for texting and all around use. The spacious keyboard and the Styling make up for the drawbacks. I am satisfied with my purchase. Also the pricing is a sweet spot for me. I just didn't want to pay the extra $100.00 for the BlackBerry and the Keyboard Layout is superior to the BlackBerry too.

Bye Bye Sprint, Hello Boost Mobile?

Where's your cash at? I know where mine is...

My bill went from a varying +/- $100 a month with Sprint to a fixed $54 a month "unlimited with Boost Mobile"... And "Boost CDMA" phones run on the Sprint network. Never dropped a call since I got it, my GF who has AT&T gets more drops lol. Sprint has been robbing me for over 8 years! Prepaid is the way to go today, I know prepaid sounds bad, but hey who doesn't have to cut spending nowadays?

its an alright phone...

I bought the Silver Boost mobile model from a store in town.

I mainly got this phone because of Boost's pay as you go plan (its like 10cents a minute and ~12$ a month for unlimited data or like 50$ for unlimited talk/text/data). I have another phone for minutes that i get cheaper and wanted this mainly for the internet and apps. With the data plan i basically get Unlimited Data/Text (text via Google voice), which means i have to go to the web browser (which is a pretty basic browser or you can use opera mini which works nice) then i have to login to [...]/voice, the only downside is you don't get alerts of when people text you.

When i use the internet typing is alright for my big/fat fingers, the only thing i find cumbersome is typing numbers, the numbers go across the top row of letters, and you have to use the [FN] button. In Opera Mini you have to hold the [FN] and then hold for about 2 seconds or cycle through the number (pushing [FN]+Q will give you a list of things to display (i.e. in no particular order " . " ' : ; , / \ ") and at the end of the list is 1.)

First i highly, highly suggest you buy a screen protector and a case for the phone, the mirror surface will scratch and show finger prints like mad.

I am disappointed with the lack of java apps (i have yet to find many useful ones), my phone also locks up every now and then, and sometimes it will lock up and show a message "Please wait while phone restores itself" (or soemthing like that) for about 10-20 minutes.

I have also had problems with the phone not displaying anything or turning off randomly after closing/opening the phone.

Online video support is pretty horrible. When the phone was first released you couldn't watch videos, with the new firmware you can watch youtube videos, but the video player is pretty bad, sometimes it wont play the whole video and will exit prematurely, and other times will cause the phone to lock up.

Others say that they have a problem with the Keyguard on the phone (its poorly positioned) I don't, i can either slide it with my ring finger or will use my other hand. I wish the phone would auto lock the keypad when it closes. Sometimes it is activated, other times its not.

I like the Mirror effect, except it would have been nice if they couldv'e done something to define the keys more (maybe a dimple, or a texture). The outside screen is extremely basic, its 1 color (white), and has l limited functions, you cannot read text messages, or create/send text messages while the phone is closed. About the only thing the screen can do is go through contact, history, missed alerts, and create a voice memo. The screen also has a "hall of mirror effect" If you look at the screen at an angle you can see it better, its reflected multiple times behind the screen.

The battery life of the phone is alright... it depends on how much you use it, but i find that i need to charge it at least once a day.

Personalizing the phone is somewhat easy, the only problem i have is that i cannot put certain items into the "Carousel" like apps (mainly Opera Mini). Most of the other apps on the phone are pretty basic.

If you like to use speakerphone, you might be disappointed in the volume/quality, i find that its not very loud. Even when watching Youtube videos its sometimes hard to hear the video.

I don't use the phone that often for calls, in fact i hardly ever use it. So i can't really comment on the quality of calls using this phone, but from what i have used its worked just fine.
