Aesthetically pleasing
It's a nice camera. The picture quality is phenomenal. However, when I shoot pictures at night especially lights, the pictures come out blurry. The camera says that my hand is shaking (which it is not). I'm still an amateur when it comes to picture taking and dealing with camera technology so maybe it's something I did wrong. Perhaps I should read the manual and try out everything. But overall, the quality of the pictures is excellent and even made my friend who likes taking pictures very jealous.

Fatal Design Error - maximum 3 month lifespan
I have always gotten Canon Powershot cameras and loved them - at least all of my previous cameras - until now.
This is my second camera of this model, and after just 3 months it's lens will not open fully due to "Lens Error". My first camera only lasted 3 weeks before it had this same problem. I had returned the first camera, thinking that it was a fluke with the individual camera, but now I see that this fatal problem is a design flaw that is present in every Canon camera of this model.
DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA!!!!! It only has a lifespan of 3 months maximum!!!

Could not recommend this product enough. For the money spent and what the camera is(a compact, pocket camera), it is outstanding. I purchased two of them and no complaints. One of the recent purchases got to go to Europe and preformed very well and made my wife very happy (picture taking nut). What more could you ask...

A surprise delight.
Took matching pictures with this little gem and my Nikon D90 using several different lens types. When compared side by side on a 25 inch monitor it was very difficult to tell the difference between the results of the two cameras. While the Nikon pictures were a bit sharper when the images were expanded, the quality of this camera's shots was quite impressive. In addition, it has virtually all of the manual features found on the Nikon. Very impressive for such a little device.

Disposable point and shoot
I don't know what is happening to all of the major brands we knew and trusted....I purchased this camera to replace a 5 yr old 5 mp Olympus 5050 that was broken at my wife's friend's bridal shower- (she left it at the table to go to the restroom and when she came back, she found 3 batteries sitting next to the camera, and 1 on the floor, she tried to put the batteries back in and door would not lock down..noone said anything to her.) Meanwhile, I was actually was looking to get a new camera, right before the incident, for I was getting tired of the bulk and older, slower features. Soon as I saw the 780is, I liked the sleek look and ultra-portability, combined with the 12mp and video capability, and It was a Canon, I was jazzed...but it had a 299.99 price tag, that busted the bubble. I said Canon's crazy, I'll wait until the price goes down when the new model comes out. (for those that don't know, a company's new model after a re-design usually is the same product with 1 or 2 extra features, nothing to trip over yourself for.) I patiently waited finally found one for under 170.00 and ordered it right up. Upon receiving the cam, my first thought was man it is small, I charged it up and started taking test shots against his replacement, the Olympus. Here's where the try before you buy is critical, The pics from the Canon were instantly noticeable being grainy and smaller detail was blown out. I thought it was broken, so I called the company and they sent me a replacement. I did notice something else that did disappoint me, both cameras I received were stamped Made In China...Yes, The Japanese brand and rep is now outsourcing to China...great. Sorry, and no offense, but so far, the quality of China goods I've received is not of the highest standards.
The pic quality of this cam proves that and says it all- grainy and blurry for inside shots (retouching required) only the outside shots, both still and video, look awesome, but sound on the video is bad, too.
After the initial disappointment faded, and I realized quality control is pretty much dead everywhere, I decided to keep the Canon, just for the quick point and shoot convenience. Not to mention that after 2 month of casual use, the paint on the body is wearing off in spots. If I had purchased it at the original price or anything higher than I paid, it would have gone right back. P/S. I did not retire the Olympus after purchasing the Canon as I intended, for its pic quality is superior. A 5 yr old 5mp cam with a rubber band holding it's batteries in place performs better over brand new 12mp cam, What's that tell you??

The pocketable PowerShot S90 gives powerful everyday shooting. Shoot quickly with a lens control ring and get superior low-light performance with a high-sensitivity 10.0 MP CCD and f/2.0 lens. A high-sensitivity CCD sensor gives outstanding image quality in a wide variety of lighting conditions. Even images taken at high ISOs show exceptionally low noise levels and a wide dynamic range. A bright f/2.0 aperture allows exceptional versatility, capturing low-light images and fast-moving subjects at higher shutter speeds. A wide angle of 28mm lets you put more in the frame, while Canon's optical IS reduces blur caused by camera shake.

Love this camera
When it comes to photography, I am lame. Even though I am an artist, I could arguably be the worst photographer on the planet. My mom once complained that art school was a waste after seeing my shots. Seriously.
The main issue is a combination of clunky menus that work against you in the spur of the moment, the quality of the camera, or portability. You had to compromise on something. I hate lugging gear or fumbling with a lens cap but wanted something better than a simple point and shoot. Shooting photos was more frustrating than fun. It seemed like a chore.
The S90 is a really fun camera to use and takes amazing pictures. The lcd screen is large with good color which makes it easy to compose shots. The onscreen information is really useful since I'm always forgetting something. It fits in a pocket and is easy to customize (I Googled "S90 tips" to customize settings). The control ring feels intuitive and this is the first time I can adjust shots on the fly. The layout of the buttons make sense. I have never ever ever been this comfortable with a camera.
The other reviewers on Amazon were spot on about the experience. I am one of the small group of people who are fine with the ergonomics. I would agree with others that the flash takes getting used to and the couple of times it popped up, I was startled and dropped the camera but had the wrist strap on so no harm was done.
This is a camera that is fun to use and takes amazing indoor or outdoor shots with excellent color.
p.s. The non hd video is fine for my purposes since I am a worse videographer than a photographer. Besides, if you ever import stuff into a computer, the HD files are too large to process for what most people would ever need.

Just What I Was Looking For
I live in a one camera household, so an SLR simply wasn't feasible. The S90 has been an acceptable compromise for both my wife and I. I love the fast lens, macro capabilities, and low-light responsiveness. My wife loves the portability and the fact she can select auto and take consistently great pics.
The small size comes with a cost. I have to always remember to keep my finger off of the pop up flash, so as not to impede it from popping up. Most importantly, the brushed aluminum finish lacks any tactile feel. I immediately purchased the Franiec custom grip and it has made a big difference.
The video recording is not 720p, but it looks great anyway (due no doubt to the great lens). I have read of others who have been dissatisfied with the battery life, but after coming from a camera using rechargeable AAs, I have no complaints.
We take lots of pictures at evening events and indoors, so we have been very happy with our S90. There have been a few times when I wished it had a 10x or 12x lens, but then again, those cameras can't match the photo quality of mine. It isn't perfect, but I've never been more pleased with a point and shoot. Canon really listened to consumers when they designed this one.

Canon S90 or SD4000?
As of July 2010, Canon S90 and Canon SD4000 are two of the best pocketable point and shoot cameras. Tough choice. Having used both, here is my take on these two excellent cameras:
ADVANTAGES OF S90 Over SD4000
1. Better picture quality. 2. Lots of manual controls. 3. Can capture images in RAW mode, allowing you lot more editing and image manipulation options.
ADVANTAGES OF SD4000 Over S90
1. HD video recording. 2. Slow motion video recording. 3. Some extra image effects like miniaturization and fish eye. 4. Slightly smaller size. 5. Native Eye-Fi support. But Eye-Fi card also works in S90. 6. I found a little better low light performance.
If you are looking for an excellent still image point & shoot camera and do not care that much about HD video then go for S90, which is really a prosumer camera designed for advanced amateur. But if you want an all in one, simple to use camera with ability to shoot good still pictures and HD video, then SD4000 is your camera.

Finally, a small camera that I am happy with....
I've had this camera for 2 months now and have been very pleased with the picture quality. I chose this camera because of its pocketability. I've owned a DSLR (Canon XTI) and G11 before, however due to their size they mostly stayed at home. This is my 6th P&S camera from Canon (I have upgradetitis) and I'm planning on keeping this for a long time. I would also recommend purchasing the aftermarket grip, gordy neck strap, lensmate filter adapter, and LCD protector for this camera.

Fantastic Shutter Speed!
I bought this camera back in Oct. 2009 and just barely got around to using it because I had another camera. I finally pulled it out for use during a pool party. The shutter speed is sooooo fast, it made me want to cry almost. I could get action shots of people driving and the water splashing, and everything was caught perfectly without any action blurs. And water splashed onto the camera with no problems either. I was tempted to just submerge the camera too but never got around to it. This camera is awesome!!! I will update my review once I use it more and use more of the features too.

Terrific for Sand Storms, too!!
I know this is sold as a waterproof camera. But, that's the tip of the proverbial iceburg. We were in the Atacama desert, in a terrific sand storm. In about ten seconds our G11 was grinding (literally) to a stop. This doesn't affect my view of the G11 ... a hurricane-force sandstorm is a bad environment for most any camera. But, the D10 was perfectly happy. We can get it wet, we can get it filthy. Just run it under the tap when we're done! It's become our new all-purpose pocket camera. We *love* it!!!

Water leaked in above 33 feet - but Canon handled it well
Hello!
I anxiously awaited this camera because I had previously had a leaky waterproof Olympus camera. I had previous been very loyal to Canon and Nikon, and I regretted going to Olympus and having trouble. So was quite excited that Canon was getting into waterproof cameras.
The camera is great - great images, easy to use, great video, etc. But water leaked in rather quickly and at about 8 feet in a pool and then later in the ocean.
Each time it leaked, the LCD display would go off and there was water in the lens area. I was able to leave it alone for a few days each time and it would "repair itself" as it dried out. But this last time (the third time) it refused to turn on any longer. So I begrudgingly sent it in.
It's been about ten days now and I got my camera back today - a new one! I think it may be slightly updated as well. I'm very excited to have it back; it has come with perfect timing.
So yes, I do actually recommend this camera (despite the leaks) because Canon handled it well and it really is a great item.

A good camera for the money
I've had this camera for a year. Bought it last year before going in vacation in Costa Rica, to ensure that I can get some pictures in the water or anywhere where and when I couldn't use my Canon Digital SLR. I have waited to review it until I used it enough times and in different conditions. It has held well on dry land and in water. The quality of the pictures is very good and it is very easy to use. I have taken pictures in the ocean, I went white water rafting with it, stayed in torrential rain and taken pictures, even zip-lined with it! While rafting some really white waters I had the camera in a tiny camera bag secured across my body. I fell in the water and I had no worries that my camera will die before I get back on my tube. I dropped it a few times and it's fine. The screen is actually the most exposed to shock and I have been trying to be careful about that. The lens are recessed so they are somehow protected. I have other Canon cameras and that is one reason I went with this camera. It had most of the features I wanted, plus a movie mode. The movies are decent quality, even in a dark, with smoke-effects party hall, and good sound. I even recorded small videos at a concert hall in NYC, and I was amazed at the clarity of the sound. I take it everywhere I think I might have a chance to get some shots and don't want to lug around the backpack with the big 'guns'. It fits in a pocket or a woman's purse (not tote) with no problem. PROs: stylish, easy to use and carry around, very user-friendly, amazing picture and good video quality, even in water. It also rotates the image on the screen, like the Ipod. CONs: screen protection is recommended, sometimes when I put it in the water and then took it out the lens 'sweated' for a few minutes, when trying to take pictures in bright sun, with the sun reflecting in the screen, the image completely blacks. It is by far not as fast as a DSLR, even with a fast card in. It takes a few seconds longer until it 'charges' again for the next shot, even when not using the flash. At night, it's better used with a tripod or have very steady hands. The image will come out shaken. During the day light this doesn't seem to be a problem, but the IS doesn't seem to be working very well with the night settings. I like this camera and I recommend it. It serves the purpose it was made for at a decent price.

Good Product but has some issues - can't be your only camera
The Canon D10 malfunctioned once with the error message of "Lens Error". We read some reviews online that had the same problem. Some of the reviewers returned the product while others just waited for the error to disappear. Since this is not our only camera, we just waited till the next day. We removed the battery overnight. The next day we replaced the battery and it worked. We have not gotten that error message again but we rarely use it. I hope it works when we need it to take that breath-taking picture :) Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD

Great little camera
The Canon PowerShot GS 11 is a great little camera. The pictures so far (most of which have been underwater with the compatible underwater housing) have been very impressive. The camera can function as a point and shoot or has the capabilty of functioning like a SLR with manual controls of many settings. It is recent buy so I have not learned all the features which gets to the cons and they are are few: The camera has many features, so it can be a bit complex. I am still figuring out how to manage the RAW data aspect of it. It is also heavy for a digital compact camera, so it does not fit into a shirt pocket. As I get more familar with it, the "complexity factor" will become less of an issue. It has durable straps and I bought a belt pouch for it, so carrying it around will not be a problem.

Huge disappointment after loving the G9 - all pictures are washed out - poor color quality1
I had the previous version, the Canon Powershot G9, and LOVED IT. It finally stopped working so I immediately ordered the most updated version, the G11. This camera was HORRIBLE. The color is completely washed out in every picture I took on my recent trip to Alaska, and is a huge disappointment. I even adjusted many different things along the way to try and remedy the color, but nothing worked. I will now spend much time "adjusting" the color using computer programs; which should not be required, but is the unfortunate situation. Positive features are the size, and a great battery life; however, if you are interested in a camera that will portray even a fraction of the vibrant colors and landscapes that you may encounter in amazing places like Alaska, look elsewhere. In addition, I am not sure why Canon chose to both reduce the megapixel size from previous versions (G9 was 12.0; G11 is 10.0) AND reduce the zoom range!

Canon G11 SDHC Memory Recommendation and Features
I'll get around to the memory recommendation in a minute. I purchased the Canon G11 and a Canon underwater housing (130' rated) for scuba diving. The combo works very well together. The camera has an underwater preset mode which produces exceptional scuba diving photos. The G11 was a little intimidating at first but after a few hours of punching buttons and reading the manual, it was clear that the camera has many advanced features and wasn't all that difficult to use. It includes numerous preset modes, (underwater, snow, portrait, action, foliage, etc, etc, etc)to make taking great pictures easy. I was truly inpressed with the possibilities. I have taken numerous stills (with and without enhancements)and videos. The photos and video have been impressive. It can do color swap, and color enhancements, like taking a picture of a child holding a red rose and only the red rose has color, the child can remain black and white. Very cool stuff.
Back to the memory thing.... I wanted to know what Size (GB) and Class (2,4,6,10) of SDHC card Canon recommended to optimize the cameras performance. The new SDHC cards have a Size in gigabytes and a Class. (Some cards show a Multiplier like 100x, 133x or even 400x). The Class and the Multiplier are essentially the same thing, transfer speeds. The bigger the number the faster the transfer rate.
The camera doesn't come with a memory card and the manual doesn't tell you what to buy. So, I sent a note to Canon and they responded within 24 hours and answered me on a Sunday. "Thumbs up" on Canon Customer Service.
Here is there response: Thank you for writing to us regarding Memory card choices for your PowerShot G11. While we don't publish the internal transfer rates for our cameras, the following information may assist you in deciding on memory cards:
Some memory cards rate their speeds by a "class." Canon cameras are recommended to be used with cards rated are class 4 for SD (Standard Definition movies) and class 6 for HD (High Definition Movies) or higher because of the large amount of data being written to the card. As long as the card adheres to the following card standards, the memory card should be compatible regardless of the class or speed rating.
The PowerShot G11 will accept SDHC memory cards with a capacity of up to 32GB.
My Comments: The cost for the SDHC cards vary all over the place. I have used a Class 2 card and it seemed to work fine. However, I wanted to see if bigger and faster was better so I ordered a Verbatim 16GB, Class 6 ($52). I got a "memory card error" with two of my cameras and now have to return it. (It was big, fast and cheap, but didn't work). I have two other Sandisk Class 4 cards that work fine. So go with Sandisk. A little more money, but they work. I picked up a Sandisk SDHC 8GB Class 10 for around $58, shipped. The 8GB card gives you around 2990 photos or 240 minutes of video. The larger capacity cards seem to be exponentially more expensive. The Class 10 is fast enough for good recovery time between shots and high quality video. The Canon manual lists several different type of compatible memory, but go with the SDHC card.
I hope you find this helpful.....it's a great camera, packed with features, and if you're into scuba diving...even better.

Great Camera!!!!
I love photography- I have been snapping and developing my own film for years. However, it is a pain to always lug my professional camera with me; especially if I just want a night on the town with my girlfriends. Plus, sometimes I would want someone to take a picture for me and unfortunately unless someone knew about professional SLR cameras no one could work mine! So I had been looking for a professional quality point and shoot with convenience and ease that even an amateur photographer could grasp. And this was it!!!! It take gorgeous high quality shots, yet is simple to use and the rotating screen is excellent for self timed pictures or hard to see areas! I highly recommend this camera to both first time buyers and long standing photographers!

Question : What canon digital camera body do you recommend to fit my sigma zoom lenses?
I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that came with a 28-80 mini zoom macro and a 70-300 macro super.....I want to get a digital that i can still use my lenses on.Any recommendations? Would it be cheaper to get just the body? Im looking in the $500 range.I am not a pro, but hope to get a good camera to learn that will last.
Answer:
Sure, you can buy something like the entry level Canon Rebel XSi or XS and will save buy buying only the body. If you want a wide angle lens, you will find the "kit" lens (18-55 mm IS) will give you a decent wide angle view.

Question : Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.
Answer:
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands. As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor. The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.

Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.
Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Question : accesories for canon digital camera which makes me look like a pro?
haha! so i bought a new canon digital camera a Powershot a2000 IS. are there accessories that can make my photographs look pro and beautiful?and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!
Answer:
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.

Question : Which is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera ?
I'm panning to buy a good digital camera and i'm wondering which is better a sony digital camera or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest ?
Answer:
Sony tends to be lower end. They're limited on lenses and feel cheap. Sony has been making SLRs since 2006 and Canon since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?

Question : How do I unlock my memory card on my Canon digital camera?
I have a Canon Power Shot SD1000 Digital Elph. I have a memory card that I took pictures on, and somehow the memory card is locked. I let someone hold my camera, so I don't know how it got locked in the first place. It won't let me access my photos, and I know it's the memory card not the camera because the other memory card works. What do I do?!?!?!
Answer:
If you look at the memory card it self there should be a small switch on it. Slide it back and your ready to go!

Answer:
The Canon SD 630 is a very good compact camera.I don't think you should worry about the other models for now. I would wait till next year to see what is coming out. They are...SD800 IS, 7.1 MP, 3.7x opticalSD900, 10MP, 3x opticalA630, 8MP, 4x optical but larger in sizeThe two SD models just have more megapixels and the newer processor. And the SD630 has the same excellent movie mode...and has a large 3.0" LCD. Just make sure you use a fast SD card.
