GREAT Camera But S.L.O.W.
Just a Quick point to make -I have 3 cameras for different uses, this is my party camera, but unfortunatley it takes too long to recover after it takes a picture using the flash REGARDLESS of the type/brand AA batteries I use.
So will have to hunt for a quicker recovering camera.

Battery shorting
Six months after purchase, the battery began shorting- meaning new batteries would last less than one hour in the camera. I sent it in for repairs and it worked fine for about a month or so. It began shorting again, so I returned it a second time. The lab was unable to duplicate the problem and therefore I was not entitled to a refund or a replacement. The camera is still under warranty at this time but this is of no use to me.
I am extremely disappointed with Cannon's customer service.
I will not be purchasing another cannon based on my customer service experience.

Very good compromise camera
Our old 5mp Kodak died and we needed a replacement. Since I do a lot of hiking I needed a camera with a viewfinder (for shots in bright sunlight) while my wife just wanted something small and easy to use. The 2.5" screen is just large enough to satisfy her needs while the viewfinder (although it only renders 78% of the picture) allows me to frame shots in the bright outdoors. Its versatile with a program mode that gives you some measure of control (not bad for a camera at this level) but has an adaquate auto mode. Picture quality is not outstanding but more than adequate. Indoor pictures can be tricky on automatic mode where it has a tendency to want to use a higher ISO than it should. Forcing an ISO of 200 or less on the Program mode helps a lot. Buttons and menu are fairly easy to get used to. At 4x it has a slightly longer zoom than many others in its class. It feels good in the hand. Consumer Reports liked it better than the 12 MP successor, the A1100. All in all its a very nice under $200 camera.

camera lens got stuck after 1 year
Just one year after we bought this camera we were taking a picture and suddenly the lens got stuck in extended position. We had just taken a picture a minute before, then this happened. The camera doesn't work anymore, it makes some noises like trying to move the lens, but it doesn't do anything. I found similar complaints about this and other Canons in the web after searching for the error message "lens error" or "stuck lens".
Other than that it was a so-so camera while it worked, slow to recharge after a flash (using alkaline batteries). The focus wasn't too great (even with the image stabilization feature) and the colors were not as vivid as a Panasonic that we had before.

After 1 Year fell apart
I got this camera in January of 2009. And I LOVED it! Took fantastic pictures (good enough to sell - I'm a photographer with many cameras) portable and the battery lasted a long time. BUT at the beginning of February all of a sudden I'd put batteries in and they would last about an hour. Next thing I know I pull it out of it's case and the silver button on top flipped off on the street and I couldn't find it. It still worked, however. Now when I put new batteries in they last about 3 or 4 pictures and then are drained. It's over a year, so warranty is shot. It makes me so sad. I loved this little camera. Now I'm leery of getting another little canon.

I Chose The SX10 Over The Newer SX20
I bought this camera from Amazon in August of 2009. A few weeks later, Canon released the newer version (SX20), so I still had the option of keeping the SX10 or returning it to Amazon for the SX20. After researching the SX20, I decided to keep the SX10, and I'm glad I did. The main reason is that most of the "experts" out there who tested both cameras claim that the SX10 has slightly better image quality, and that was important to me. I know that the SX10 has a "Super Fine" image quality setting, while the newer SX20 can only go as high as a "Fine" setting. The SX10 comes with a full printed manual, while the SX20 does not, and the SX10 has a voice recording option, something they left off the new SX20.
Before I purchased the SX10, I was searching for a digital camera that had a lot of zoom, took decent photos, and shot good quality video with excellent sound. Well, this camera has lots of zoom (20X), good for taking shots of wildlife. The video is very good, and the stereo sound is far, far better than my older point and shoot camera. No need for me to buy a separate camcorder. The photo image quality is OK, but not spectacular. Some photos have "noise", but I keep reminding myself that this is NOT a thousand dollar SLR camera, so I don't expect perfection.
For those people who are not camera geeks, this camera will serve you well in Auto setting, but I advise everyone to read the instruction manual and play around with the many manual settings, as there are lots of fun things you will discover, and you will be able to take better photos as well.

Great Zoom. Poor video function.
I purchased this camera because I had a Canon with a flip out LCD screen previously and loved it. This camera at the time, was the only one I could find with this similar feature. I love being able to fold out the LCD and hold the camera over my head or down by my knees and see what I am photographing. The zoom is awesome! However the video although pretty good in quality (as good or better than my camcorder) has focusing glitches. It goes in and out of focus while recording (annoying!). I suppose it could be the operator and not the camera as I am not a professional photographer nor videographer, but since it appears to be a camera for the novice it should not be this complicated to shoot 'in-focus' video in auto mode. The pics are great and the other features work fine enough for me. The video issue is the only disappointing part as I am tired of hauling along two cameras on trips and special occasions.
Rating :
Great Camera for the price
I really enjoy this camera. I still have a lot to learn on it. I wasn't ready to get a SLR camera yet so that will be my next purchase after I decide to take my photography to another level. It is a little on the bulkier side, but it doesn't bother me. I would recommend this camera if someone is just looking for a really nice point and shoot camera that is a step before the SLR.
Rating :
Great camera if you want a little more than simple point and shoot
This is my first digital camera (besides borrowing my mom's compact point-and-shoot) and so far I love it. I wanted a camera that would be able to take decent macro shots but could not afford a DSLR with macro lens. The SuperMacro setting on the Canon PowerShot SX10 works nicely for what I need (after I figured out that you need to set the camera into manual mode to use it). I'm impressed with the zoom as well. I've taken pictures of the moon that people won't believe I've taken without a telescope just using the zoom on the camera. I've read a few complaints about grainy pictures, but I find with using sufficient light, low ISO setting and manual mode this isn't really an issue. I take most of my pictures in manual mode and love fiddling around with the settings. I've been able to get a few surprisingly good bokeh shots as well using the zoom and/or macro settings.
The only complaints I would have might be that it's too easy to accidentally press a button on the back of the camera when holding it, thus changing your settings in the middle of trying to take a picture. I've annoyed myself doing that on multiple occasions. I wished the manual focus would work a little better - it's sometimes challenging to get it right and it's a bit hit and miss. Most of the time, the auto focus and focus lock work fine for what I want to do though. And on the SuperMacro setting, it can be tricky to get the lighting right without casting a lens shadow on your subject, but I suspect that's probably an issue with all macro photography and I wouldn't hold that against the camera. If I could add something to the camera to make it better, I would suggest a thread to add filters etc and put the lens cap on a strap so it can't get lost. I know there are adapters and alternate lens caps available, but it would be nice not to have to purchase those extra.

why so much hype?
for average to low usage: don't buy. i like to take pictures on my trips (national and state parks), family, in and out... sorry, i do not understand the extremely good ratings on canon cameras (i own also a little compact SD1200IS) particularly this model.. cons: -low light pictures are grainy, very grainy. -the colors are a bit saturated for my taste. -the auto-focus is slow and kind of unreliable. it grabs what you do not want to focus on ... -you can not put a filter to the lens (mainly to protect the lens from scratches ... basics) -it drains batteries faster than expected, much faster. it even drains the batteries when it is off for a week or so: unbelievable. -there is no monitor of battery charge on the screen ... when the batteries die, the camera shuts down with no warning! even the small cheap compact cameras have that feature! -4 AA batteries make the camera heavy. -many 'push buttons' placed almost randomly all over the right side of the body that make little sense unless you master the manual perfectly. -no on-screen display of the beginning of a self-timed shot makes it awkward to use (many, if not all, small cameras have front and back warnings that the timer started). -the x20 zoom is useless if you do not have a tripod. -zooming in and out is too sensitive. it is difficult to set. -the software menus are cumbersome to my taste (i've used kodak, panasonic, samsung, nikon so it is fair to make the statement). -esthetically, and that's my personal taste, the body looks big and unrefined. we passed the 2,000s 10 years ago ... some re-design would not hurt (ie look at panasonic, nikon). pros: there are many 'pros' already described by other reviewers.
in summary, what's the hype with canon? digital cameras perform in general good nowadays so i think we need to think more about ergonomics, user friendly software, battery life and forget about 'the brand hype' that obviously canon benefits from. i understand that a low review will not do 'anything' on the average star of the product ... it is the review that counts: i hope it is of any help.

Question : Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.
Answer:
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands. As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor. The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.

Question : accesories for canon digital camera which makes me look like a pro?
haha! so i bought a new canon digital camera a Powershot a2000 IS. are there accessories that can make my photographs look pro and beautiful?and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!
Answer:
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.

I have narrowed my digital camera purchase down to the Canon SD line. I am looking at the 850is, the 750 and the 1000. Question : what is the latest model of canon digital camera and what is diffrences between these ?
i have bought cannos sd 630 . But i know there is latest model of canon digital camera in the market . So i want to know what can i do with my cannos sd 630 and what can't i do ?
Answer:
The Canon SD 630 is a very good compact camera.I don't think you should worry about the other models for now. I would wait till next year to see what is coming out. They are...SD800 IS, 7.1 MP, 3.7x opticalSD900, 10MP, 3x opticalA630, 8MP, 4x optical but larger in sizeThe two SD models just have more megapixels and the newer processor. And the SD630 has the same excellent movie mode...and has a large 3.0" LCD. Just make sure you use a fast SD card.

Question : Suggestion for a canon digital camera?
Hi guys!I'm planning on a getting a canon digital camera (i alr have my dslr hehe) and the canon digital camera is for me and my family to share :) Yeap!Any ideas or suggestions which one i should get?
Answer:
Canon's latest EOS 7D mid-range DSLR is a pretty good option. It sports an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, 19 point auto-focus system, an intelligent viewfinder, and 8 frames per second shooting. Additionally, it includes Canon's Dual DIGIC 4, an advanced imaging processor, which is the real engine behind EOS 7D's efficient and high resolution photography. If DSLR is not in your wish list, you can buy a Canon PowerShot or a more stylish Canon IXUS camera. IXUS range of Canon cameras is slimmer, has all the latest features, and looks elegant in hands.

Question : What canon digital camera body do you recommend to fit my sigma zoom lenses?
I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that came with a 28-80 mini zoom macro and a 70-300 macro super.....I want to get a digital that i can still use my lenses on.Any recommendations? Would it be cheaper to get just the body? Im looking in the $500 range.I am not a pro, but hope to get a good camera to learn that will last.
Answer:
Sure, you can buy something like the entry level Canon Rebel XSi or XS and will save buy buying only the body. If you want a wide angle lens, you will find the "kit" lens (18-55 mm IS) will give you a decent wide angle view.

Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.
Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.
