canon powershot
I love Canon, they cannot disappoint my family and I. I bought this for my girlfriend and she used to have this Olympus one but I got her into the Canon line of cameras and she noticed the picture quality. Worth the buy, and honestly it has good picture quality. You get what you pay for, and with this you will get what you want....Trust me I was playing with that thing the first second I saw it and took a ton of pictures everywhere we went. Good stuff.

Faulty design and absolute rip off service
I purchased my Canon SD 1200IS in September, 2009 from Amazon for $160. For the five months that it worked, it worked well. I was careful with it, never near sand nor a beach, never in the rain, kept it in a case. But 5 months later it would not power on, or when I would finally get it to turn on, it would extend the lens and then power down, an even more frustrating situation. I sent the camera in to be repaired while it was under warranty. I then received an estimated repair cost of $118, claiming that it was water damage. Again, the camera was never in the rain, never dropped in water. To my knowledge it was never even damp. If ambient humidity may have caused the problem that is certainly a design flaw and this camera should only be sold in the desert. I had read online that Canon repair had done this same sort of rip off with others and somehow thought that as I knew I'd treated the camera well that my case would not be the same. I am greatly disappointed and will never waste my money on a Canon camera again.
I was extremely disappointed with the durability, or lack thereof, of the camera even with proper care. I was even more disappointed with the outrageous repair estimates that was not even explained by the repair service. As I have seen that others have had the same experience and now learn that one of the cameras I'd given as a gift did the same thing, it is interesting that on Canon's own website the reviews are so glowing. This may have been how I was led to believe it was a good camera in the first place. I have recommended Canon cameras to many of my friends and family and have purchased 5 as gifts in addition to other Canon products (copier, printer/fax, etc.). I will now need to start warning people about Canon's cameras.

Lens error
I bought the camera exactly 13 month ago. Never had a problem and liked it overall. Easy to use, good picture quality and battery life was very good. Today however without any warning the lens doesn't open up and I get the error "lens error restart camera". 1 month past the warranty. Reading up on it I guess it is a known error that Canon doesn't warrant. I guess I will not buy a Canon anymore.

Do your research before buying this camera
If you research lens error and Canon 1200 you'll come up with some interesting stats that may want you to think twice before buying this camera . I wish I had . I got this camera as a gift 3 months ago and have only rceently gotten around to using it . 2 weeks of being used and always keeping it in a case with no damage ,fall or anyhting interesting hapening to it it just plain refuses to work with the msg 'lens error restart camera ' . I won't be buying a canon again

Great camera
It works well. It has all the features I desire in a small camera and still takes VERY good pictures at near SLR quality levels.

Defective camera
This review is not about the Canon camera, rather it concerns one of Amazon's suppliers.
I purchased this camera from one of Amazon's suppliers, an individual selling a used product. The only deficiency noted about the camera by the seller was "missing the lens cover". Upon reciept of the camera I found the camera to be dirty and scratched, giving the appearance of much misuse. Additionally, there was no battery or battery charger supplied with the camera. After obtaining a battery on my own, I took some pictures, only to find that the pictures were out of focus.
Repeated attempts were made through Amazon to get the supplier to allow return of the camera and my money refunded, only to be denied.
This experience has left me dissappointed with Amazon although their supplier had gotten good ratings in the past.
I am attempting other means to rectify this situation. At this time I'm still a disallusioned Amazon customer.

Will not stand the test of time.
This camera broke just after the year warrenty expired. I bought this specific camera because it had a viewfinder to help on sunny days. The viewfinder was not aligned properly so if you used it to take a picture you got half a face instead of the face you had centered in the view finder window. Also after our second vacation with the camera it stopped working in the car due to a lens error. The camera will not close and is now a brick. I can't get any help from Cannon on the issue.
I feel that the cost spend for this camera could be better spent on another product with either better customer support or a better design that would not break as easily.
We were not abusive to this camera.
I did like the features on this camera and the quick response time. I thought the battery life was a huge improvement over our old digital camera. I also liked the size. But due to the flaws in view finder and how quickly it broke for no apparent reason I would not recommend. We still take our old camera on the same vacations and it is still kicking while this new more expensive model is toast.
Also the color quality left something to be desired - blown out whites.
It was good in low light conditions - for restraunt parties etc.

Older model has viewfinder and 5x zoom
Its hard to find a good point-n-shoot these days that still has a viewfinder. I couldn't find a current Canon model that I liked for under $300, so I bought this refurnished older model. It a bit heavier, but I love the 5x zoom and all the manual options.
I prefer Canon cameras because of the quick response time and the high quality lens.

Do not buy this camera
In April 2008, I purchased an SD890IS from Amazon for my wife because she prefers a camera with a viewfinder for bright shooting situations when it's difficult to view the LCD screen image. She quickly learned to use the camera's features and the photo quality was excellent. In September 2009, the lens locked in extended position and there was a grinding noise when trying to retract it. A local camera shop recommended that due to the cost of repair, it would be wiser to replace the camera. We didn't contact Amazon because we'd owned the camera 1 1/2 years. We thought the breakdown was a fluke. Since my wife liked the camera, we decided to order another SD80IS in October 2009. In January 2010, the camera started making the same grinding noise as the preceding one and the lens malfunctioned. At that time we were in Arizona and did not return home until April 2010. Upon returning home, we returned both cameras to Amazon with a detailed explanation. They simply returned both cameras to us. Obviously customer satisfaction is not a priority to them. Coincidentally, while we were in Arizona, a friend went to China with her new Canon PowerShot, a different model than my wife's. On her first day there, her camera started making grinding noises and the lens stuck in the open position. We now own approximately $600 worth of broken cameras which are going into the garbage. There's nothing like throwing away money! If you are thinking about buying this or any PowerShot, I suggest you read all the one and two star reviews and check out reviews and comments about this product on other web sites. If this review stops one person from buying this camera, it has done its job.

Customer Review :
Excellent pics
The camera is wonderful and takes excellent pics. The only complaint I have is the placement of the flash which is at the top right and flips open when you turn on the camera. So if you have your finger in that place, the flash will not open and you will have to manually pull it out. I found myself doing this a lot as the camera is sleek and one tends to hold it on all four corners.
Regarding the accessories along with this, the camera case is horrible. Infact, the velcro is so rough that it tends to rip off the camera sling holder. I am sure it can make a scratch on the viewing section of the camera. Also, it is thick and bulky, and will fit nothing but the camera. I disposed it immediately, the case seemed more destructive than protective.
The tripod lens is ok, it is teeny but what else can you expect.
The memory card is ok for now but I haven't tried another card with higher speed to compare it with.

Nice Camera.
Bought this camera to replace a PowerShot A620 (7.1 megapixels). I am extremely pleased with the quality of the photographs with this camera. The 14x Optical Zoom is tremendous. This is a great little camera.

Not comfortable to use
I have no idea why Canon released this kind model. So hard to use. Flash on right top is annoying. I have used so many brand cameras all manufacturers made sure cameras physical design is ease to use whereas this one is not that user friendly. U cant hold camera properly due to flash popup other than that menu and operation is sweet.

Great camera
After much searching, I decided this camera had everything that I wanted in it, especially the 14x optical zoom. It takes great pictures and you can carry it around in your pocket. The 14 MP isn't bad either!

SO)CANON SD1000 SILVER DIGITAL CAMER
Customer Review :
Wow, I REALLY hate this camera
I'm on my 3rd Canon powershot/elph camera (which probably speaks to the durability). Liked the others but, man, is this a poor camera. The picture quality is HORRIBLE. What looks like a clear picture on the display screen repeatedly turns out blurry once I try to print photos or download to the computer. We've lost photos of many special moments by relying on this camera.
Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this camera.

Great product but not durable
Used the camera for 2 years. It has great picture quality. A very good point and shoot camera for the price. After a fall the camera gave the "Error reading lens" error and the customer service asked almost the same price as the camera for repair.

This Camera Rocks
I have had this camera for a couple of years now. Still works like the day I got it. Takes great pictures inside, outside, and at night. Small and fits in your pocket nicely.

Great buy, value for money
I'm thrilled with this purchase. I bought another one for my parents too. Its easy use for a camera novice and works great for a professional. Battery lasts very long. Picture quality is awesome. It also has many modes and settings for better optimization. My only complaint is that it doesn't capture moving objects too well, but that's not what its meant for anyway. I would highly recommend this product.

Canon PowerShot SD1000
My daughter has had this exact camera for a few years, uses it daily, and it recently met its demise. Knowing and loving this camera already, I decided to search and find her the same one. Yea for Amazon! Daughter and "new" camera are quite happy, no struggles learning a new system and mom is a hero. :) Oh yeah, and it takes great pictures!

Question : Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.
Answer:
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands. As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor. The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.

The Canon SD 630 is a very good compact camera.I don't think you should worry about the other models for now. I would wait till next year to see what is coming out. They are...SD800 IS, 7.1 MP, 3.7x opticalSD900, 10MP, 3x opticalA630, 8MP, 4x optical but larger in sizeThe two SD models just have more megapixels and the newer processor. And the SD630 has the same excellent movie mode...and has a large 3.0" LCD. Question : Where can I get a nifty screen protector for my Canon digital camera?
A friend told me that they make those plastic protector things (that adhere just with static electricity) for digital camera screens so you don't scratch them. he said you can get them specifically for your make and model so they fit perfectly. I have a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. Where can I find a protector for it?
Answer:
If you chose to go with the plastic protectors go to Walmart and by the targus at 2.79 than cut them by yourself. There are 4 in the box so if you make a mistake just throw it and cut a new one.If you chose to go with a custom made one made of glass be ready to spend around 30 dollars. Is it worth it for a camera that cost 240? Your call, I chose the Targus for my G10.

Question : What kind of batteries should be used with Canon Digital camera A 570? Any specific brand?
I have recently purchased Canon A 570 Digital camera. The batteries have gone dead I have replaced the old Panasonic batteries with brand new Duracell battery however the moment I inserted the batteries I get battery low display. Are there any specific brands that we have to purchase and any specific model? Can we use rechargeable batteries?Which recharger should I use? Any specific brand? Please let me know the exact name of the model/brand of batteries.
Answer:
Yes, of course you can use rechargeable batteries. In fact, that's what you SHOULD use. Any good name brand of rechargeable NiMh battery and charger will do. Make sure they are high capacity (something like Energizer 2700mAh or higher).Your camera only uses 2 AA batteries, so make sure you buy 4 batteries and a charger that can charge 4 batteries at a time, so you always have a spare set.To lengthen your battery life, make sure you turn off the LCD in between shots, and also limit the use of the flash, zoom and recording of movies.Make sure you always give the batteries a charge before you plan to use the camera. Especially if you have not used it in a while, because NiMh batteries will discharge at the rate of about 1/2 -1% per day when not used. You can also use Lithium batteries (such as Energizer e2). They are non rechargeable and fairly expensive, but provide a much longer battery life than ordinary batteries. They are perfect as an emergency backup...and the good thing about them is that they do not discharge when not used.good luck...

Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.
Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.
