A great camera, there's only one shortcoming that I can think of.
Quick review:
Pros: - Great price. - Easy to use. - Feels like a real camera in your hand. - Takes great pictures right out of the box.
Cons: - It doesn't automatically get turned off when it's idle for too long. - It takes grainy pictures when the light is poor. - When you zoom in at some of your pictures in full resolution, you will find that some of them are grainy.
Full review:
I purchased this camera right before leaving for a long trip abroad. I expected it to be a wonderful camera for taking all those pictures of my vacation. It never did disappoint me and it produced wonderful results, some of which do indeed look very artistic. I have a friend who's a professional photographer, and he did praise some of the pictures that I took. It really never failed me.
The first major thing that other reviewers mention is the design of this beauty. It's very well-designed and isn't ugly at all. It sure isn't as slim as some other cameras, but I think that the size is just right, the buttons aren't hard to press and it has that intuitive Canon interface that allowed me to take my first pictures of my vacation right after I left the airport.
I bought Energizer Rechargeable Batteries for use with them, and they generally lasted for about 4-5 days of average tourist usage - this means taking a picture every 5-10 meters. I don't use flash as I only took pictures in daylight, when sightseeing and public transportation networks were functional. The battery life is great.
I only had one issue with the battery life. I always had the camera in my backpack, and it did get turned on somehow and remained on till the batteries were empty a couple of times. This actually prevented me taking any pictures of one of the most beautiful towns that I have been to, which is a real pity. It was on a weekend and I couldn't find any place where I can find some batteries. I think that Canon should add a functionality that will prevent the camera from staying on for too long.
Another issue that I had with this Camera was the fact that it takes grainy pictures when the light is poor. This means that most pictures taken in the dark will be somewhat grainy. I don't think that it's a real issue as taking pictures of ghosts isn't one of my hobbies, but it still is something to consider.
Another thing to consider is the level of the details. When you download your full-resolution pictures to your computer, open them in an image viewer, and zoom in to 200-400% you will notice that the pictures can be grainy. This isn't that great when you're editing those pictures in Photoshop, but this isn't a real issue if you're not a professional photographer or a hobbyist. You can not the pictures from this camera to be as crisp as those coming from a Nikon D3 after all.
All my customer images on Amazon were taken using this camera, you can see how great this camera really is.
I took thousands of pictures with this camera and it's still going strong. I think that it will really serve me well for my needs for years to come. I am not a photographer, and all that I am interested in is taking pictures of the places that I go to, family, and friends. This camera does that, does it well, and comes at a great price. It's unbeatable in this price range. It's a great camera for a student like me.
It really helped me document my vacation and gave me more than two thousands pictures of pure beauty. I am really grateful for that.

love it
Finally broke down and bought a digital camera, and this is a great one to get. I am only a beginner and don't like editing and fine tuning things, so this is perfect. Compact, takes great photos. Would recommend it to everyone. And I love the orange color!!!

Very good picture quality
I liked this Canon PowerShot camera. I bought this camera based on the fabulous customers' reviews in Amazon.com. Recently I had to take some pictures in a house without any lights in a cloudy late afternoon. This camera gave me very clear pictures with its flash in this type of environment. As long as you position your camera towards the object and hold it steady, you will get a very sharp picture with the automatic flash even you could not see the target clearly with your eyes.
I used to have a Fuji FinePix S3000 I bought from a local store based on a salesperson's recommendation. This was a very stupid camera with a heavy and big body and gave shady pictures. The camera broke somehow last year. I will never buy Fuji camera again.
I had a analog-type Canon PowerShot camera before and I think I liked that old camera.
I would buy Canon PowerShot cameras again If necessary.

A470
Pros: Takes nice quality pictures. As far as it being noisy, it is a bit noisy when you turn it on, and when you adjust the lens, but i didn't think it was bad at all.
Cons: I don't think its heavy at all, but of course it isn't a really slim camera either. Summary: The delete button could have been marked better, as it has a diagram on it but not of the usual trash can. The trash can icon is directly under the delete button. My older dad, who's not so techy figured it out pretty quick but i still don't care for that particular thing. When your looking at the screen sometimes its a bit fuzzy or spotty but its great in macro if you hold the shutter button for a second or so. And the quality is never spotty or fuzzy, just the screen isn't perfect at times. Sometimes is great. But no major problems with it really. More on the noise quality: I don't even think it would wake a sleeping baby. There is no other noise except when the lens adjusts. You can turn all the other sounds off via the menu. Its not that heavy, but i suggest on any camera if you can to make sure it's the fit for your hands and to make sure that it isnt to heavy for you.
Takes nice pictures, the video is good too. Not heavy. Pretty easy to use, for those not that tech savvy.

Great camera
This is an amazing camera. My first one got stolen, but since I liked it so much I bought the same one again instead of a newer model. I can't find any faults with it.

A great P&S camera that still holds it own today
I was amazed by the quality of this camera after receiving it as a gift. Even with today's more advanced cameras, it still holds it own. The camera comes with a slew of features including image stabilization, face detection, different scene modes, manual controls for some features, and a great screen. The feel of the camera is excellent and the battery life is also very good. During my 10 months of ownership I have managed to use the camera during mountain biking, hiking, and just walking down city streets. The camera works well in many circumstances and is very easy to use.
The pros include: Easy to use setup Great LCD screen Long battery life sturdy construction
The negatives include: poor low light performance (common in P&S cameras) slow focusing in low light (also common in other cameras) stabilization sometimes works well and sometimes not
The many features are easily used and one can even shoot limited videos with the camera. The video features are for standard sized videos. Perhaps the one problem with the camera is its performance in low light. Images often appear with large amounts of grain, even at iso set at 80. This might be more of a problem with it being a P&S camera with a small sensor. The 3x optical zoom works fairly well but one should avoid using the digital zoom which leaves a great deal to be desired.
The camera itself is easy to carry and handle. The camera has a fast start up and fairly quick shooting mechanism in daylight. Some of the best shots have come from up close macro shots using the 3x zoom. Landscapes are nice done with proper lighting or lack of. During full daylight some landscape shots would come out white washed or with too much light.
Overall a great camera to use all around. The camera was a great introduction to photography, even it wasn't a DSLR camera.

Terrible customer service
This is an excellent camera. The Canon waterproof housing I bought was less than that--the second time I used it, it leaked and ruined the camera.
But my comment here is on Canon's customer service. It took Canon two weeks to send me a replacement camera, and that shipment was lost by FedEx. However, when I contacted Canon to ask them to ship me another camera, they refused. They said that the problem was now between me and FedEx. I advised that I didn't have a relationship to FedEx, but that they did. My relationship was to Canon, and I asked that Canon give me another camera while it was waiting to be paid by FedEx for the lost camera. Three CSRs separately refused, and said that they can't fix a problem like this quickly.
I told them that if I told Amazon that I'd not gotten a product from Amazon, it would ship a replacement immediately. They said they don't do things that way.
So, be forewarned that if you have problems with this camera, you may encounter slow response and poor customer service.
Next time, I won't buy Canon.

Love this thing. I've always used a Canon. I must say that I'm a big guy and I didn't think this particular model would be so small but I still love it. Takes quick pics and they always come out perfect. Great camera for great price.

Canon SD800 IS Digital ELPH raises the bar. There's everything you'd expect from a camera of this caliber: A 7.1 megapixel CCD to render images in magnificent detail and a DIGIC III Image Processor for stellar quality and fast operation. Yet what sets the SD800 IS Digital ELPH apart is its Wide-angle 3.8x optical zoom with Image Stabilizer technology for rock steady zooms. The Canon SD800 IS Digital ELPH is the Digital ELPH that's a step ahead.

My favorite compact digital
I'm partial to Canon compact digitals, but I prefer Nikons for digital SLRs. This camera is great. Image stabilization works well. There is minimal lag after pressing the shutter. This is the widest lens you can find in a compact Canon camera. Check out Ken Rockwell's reviews and guides on his site. It's better to read his stuff and see his examples instead of trying to read some boring manual.

Canon makes the best cameras.
I bought this camera in December of 2007! (wow, time flies!) It was an upgrade from my Canon SD300 4MP (my first digital camera, bought around in 2004. Paid $500 for it! But it was a good investment since I'm still using it, and it's still working the same -- close to 5 years later! I've taken it on many trips and it has taken a lot of beating.) Ironically, this SD800 camera, that was an upgrade for me, was less than half the cost. Was it worth the upgrade for me? Yes. The larger screen, wider lens, SDHC support (SD300's now outdated technology was limited to 2GB), image stabilizer (it was a lot harder to hold still with the SD300, especially when asking people to take pictures for me without using flash; to get around that, it's best to shoot in snapshots and hope that one of them comes out sharp) and the added mega pixels for larger prints/cropping was definitely worth it. However, I don't find the SD300 obsolete because it's still much smaller and still shoots great photos.
Many cameras these days shoot in HD (1080 or 720) now. However, I was surprised to find out the video quality on this camera (max resolution at 640x480) still beats the low-end HD cameras, with poor sensor, that just interpolate to higher resolutions (it looks so awful - I'm talking about you, Mr. Sanyo TH-1!). Even though the video capability on this camera is a bit outdated now, I still find use for shooting with this camera.
Even after all these years, I still love both my point and shoot cameras. It's just a no question that Canon is a leading camera company. I also recently bought an old Canon A-1 35mm film camera (made in the 1970's) and the build quality and technology on it still impressed me. Canon has my trust in cameras. Period. Design, functions, results - they usually don't disappoint.
You really shouldn't be paying $500 for this point and shoot camera now. For that kind of money these days, you should be getting a DSLR with more features.

Terrific camera, even better with CHDK
Sharp wide-angle lens, compact design, typical Canon build quality.
I bought this for my wife, who was frustrated with her Casio because of image blurring. With this camera, the optical image stabilization works wonders for her.
What makes Canons an even better buy is the open-source firmware that you can install. Don't worry, it doesn't break the camera and in fact can be removed or bypassed at any time. The firmware, called "CHDK," allows for many additional features that rival big, expensive SLR performance. One feature I enabled with CHDK is a thermometer-style battery capacity gauge at the top of the screen. Now my wife can see exactly how full the battery is, rather than guessing and running out of battery at an inopportune moment.
Great camera!

I miss using my sd800IS
This camera accompanied me on many an adventure. Although advances in megapixel range have been made in recent years since its release, this little camera rendered excellent images with vibrant color and definition. I loved the wide angle and image stablization features. It's size was perfect for my travel needs. Unfortunately, it met a premature demise on a trout stream in Argentina. Although it faithfully captured the image of the fish I caught, it has since had major problems keeping it's battery charge, rendering it unusable. Purchase of a new battery didn't solve the problem.

Good little camera
Not much to add from other reviews. I read about it on Ken Rockwell's site, sounded great, bought it. Love the wider angle lense than other point and shoots. HOWEVER, I bought it for $300 in 2007, but I see it is currently listed at over $500. Don't buy it for that price. At $500, it should be made of gold.

Questions & Answers
Question : What kind of batteries should be used with Canon Digital camera A 570? Any specific brand?
I have recently purchased Canon A 570 Digital camera. The batteries have gone dead I have replaced the old Panasonic batteries with brand new Duracell battery however the moment I inserted the batteries I get battery low display. Are there any specific brands that we have to purchase and any specific model? Can we use rechargeable batteries?Which recharger should I use? Any specific brand? Please let me know the exact name of the model/brand of batteries.
Answer:
Yes, of course you can use rechargeable batteries. In fact, that's what you SHOULD use. Any good name brand of rechargeable NiMh battery and charger will do. Make sure they are high capacity (something like Energizer 2700mAh or higher).Your camera only uses 2 AA batteries, so make sure you buy 4 batteries and a charger that can charge 4 batteries at a time, so you always have a spare set.To lengthen your battery life, make sure you turn off the LCD in between shots, and also limit the use of the flash, zoom and recording of movies.Make sure you always give the batteries a charge before you plan to use the camera. Especially if you have not used it in a while, because NiMh batteries will discharge at the rate of about 1/2 -1% per day when not used. You can also use Lithium batteries (such as Energizer e2). They are non rechargeable and fairly expensive, but provide a much longer battery life than ordinary batteries. They are perfect as an emergency backup...and the good thing about them is that they do not discharge when not used.good luck...

Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.
Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Question : Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.
Answer:
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands. As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor. The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.

Question : Which is the best canon digital camera?
Hey, i recently purchased the Canon digital Elph, and it really sucks at taking pictures. I mean its good overall, but it gets REALLY shaky, and i would prefer something that is very durable. I believe there are certain types of canon cameras that work really well in taking pictures. Not really interested in the whole professional camera's only small digital cameras. What are the good ones? (From canon only)
Answer:
Here, take a look.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/Actually all Canon cameras can take excellent photos. The user just has to understand the limitations under the conditions they use the cameras."REALLY" shaky shots are caused by using too slow a shutter speed when hand holding the camera. This applies to cameras that cost under $100 to the $8,000 Canon professional DSLR. Changing cameras will not solve this problem. It can be reduced some by buying a camera with built-in image stabilization system

Question : I am buying a Canon digital camera, which is the best model in the SD line?
I have narrowed my digital camera purchase down to the Canon SD line. I am looking at the 850is, the 750 and the 1000. The 850 and the 750 are very close in price and the 1000 is significantly cheaper. I can't seem to find many differences between the 3 and was wondering if anyone had any experience between any of these? Thanks

Sorry i dont know much about cameras. I just bought one from Canon though that is wonderful.... Canon Rebel xti....
