Great little camera

Love this camera and I keep it in my bag at all times. It takes great photos for every day snapshots when a dslr is not convenient to carry. The only complaint I have is the lack of a Sports mode. The Children and Pets mode is the closest I can find and it does an alright job with kids. However, although I've gotten a few good sports shots with it, it's still on the slow side and not fast enough to catch some of the best action shots.

viewfinder

Last of the compact cameras with a viewfinder. Image stabilizaton, advanced electronics, 2 aa batteries, and many options. A really great camera. Only negative , there is no user manual-only a cd. This presents a problem when you are travelling and need to check something.

Fuzzy

I had 3mp and 8mp cameras that I feel took better pictures. Most of my problems were with indoor pictures coming out fuzzy and/or pixelated. There is an easy setting and even with using this function I still had poor picture quality. I know this has a 12.1 MP, but to me it is of no use if the pictures come out the way they did. I did read the manual and even with following the suggestions for taking picutres I still had this problem. HOWEVER, As far as taking "posed" shots in very good lighting the pictures came out GREAT, but for taking those pictures of activities, especially indoors (yes I did use flash), I have many poor images of great memories. I am definitely not a "technical" type person, but with owning two other digital cameras I didn't have this type of a problem. It seems like an easy to use camera, So I guess that is why I am so disappointed that I had this problem.

Perfect combo of size and features!

Great camera! Great battery life! Amazing features!

For anyone who is tentative about this camera b/c other reviewers claim that the features are lacking...put your reservations aside! I will say that the manual is a bit lacking--it does mention all of the features but it definitely doesn't explain how to use them or the extent of their use as well as it could. So, you will need to devote some time to playing with the camera and the manual to figure out exactly what the camera can do and how to do it.

I will say that this is not a point and shoot camera...I mean, it does point and shoot exceptionally well! However, the artistic features of this camera is what really makes it spectacular! Sepia, B&W, single color, enhanced color, contrast, manual settings, etc.

Anyway, great camera!

Great camera

Canon never disappoints me. If you want to get a nice digital camera this is one of the best, if not the best, from the Power-shot series. Battery life is pretty good, the image quality looks great. If you know how to set it up to the Manual setting correctly, the images look like professional pictures. Since, I haven't played with it yet, (one of my photographer friends put the settings on the Manual), I go with Auto, which automatically chooses the best setting for the picture. Very good camera and convenient to carry for traveling. I had two other Canons before, without any problems. I highly recommend.

BEST Point & Shoot EVER

Camera is the best point and shoot i have ever owned. I have owned two sony P&S and a canon P&S, and by far this is the best. The optical zoom is AMAZING. The 720P HD movie quality is amazing. The problem with the flash popping up is not a problem at all. It isn't even in the way. I was skeptical about people saying there is no zoom while recording a movie. They are WRONG. True, there is no OPTICAL zoom, but there surely is digital zoom, and there is NO problem with that. The digital zoom is VERY adequate. If you want a better camera for videos, go buy a camcorder. This camera is for pictures. The pictures are EXCELLENT!!! The only down side i could say is that the black is more of a dark, dark brown. I wanted a black one, but opted for the blue one, which is VERY nice. BUY THE CAMERA!

Dissapointed

I bought this camera a year ago and loved it, but as the lens was opening the other day I got an error message saying "Lens error, restart camera". After some internet research it looks like this is a common problem that Canon knows about, but won't aknowledge. Looks like I am going to have to buy another $300 camera, but it won't be a Canon.

Canon SX200IS

This is a fabulous camera. Who needs an SLR? This one does everything. The IS is superb. I have taken portraits of people 50 feet away in dimly lit rooms. I use ASA 3200 for a lot of indoor work and get pictures not too noisy that are quite suitable for internet slide shows. I seldom use the flash.
Excellent battery life, easy to carry.
My only complaint is the time between pictures is a few seconds.

A luck thing jumping price

I purchased this cam for my wife in 2007, I wanted something inexpensive but gets the job done. I've been buying cannon cameras for years now and this one does not disappoint, picture quality, battery life, size all top notch. I read a lot about lens jamming and expensive repairs, I suggest you get a warranty for it, I guess a few out there are lemons. Oh, I would like to also add, I purchased this camera new for $213.51 on 2/5/2007, the price tag on it now is steep, more then double, no longer and inexpensive camera. At this price I won't buy it again, five stars then, four stars now.

Great ittle camera

I bought this camera about 2 years ago. It's been a great little camera. It is a point-and-shoot, with the usual limitations of such (why are you complaining about a P&S camera not shooting in RAW, or not being able to adjust aperture and shutter speed? If you want those capabilities go buy a Digital Rebel, they're not that much more expensive!). It's cute and small, and in most settings takes pretty great pictures. I LOVE the macro mode, and also use this camera to take short video clips of my 1 yr old all the time (got a 2g memory card to hold lots of footage). I've also never had issues with the battery life-- I use the LCD screen constantly, and can take several hundred photos before needing to recharge. My only complaint is the flash can be a bit weak, and it would be nice to have an indicator of how much battery life you have left before it's truly low, but again I see this as kind of standard P&S problems.

It's been pretty durable. Only now (after 2 years of heavy use) did the screen break on me, thinking back I think it was when I had it in my back pocket while at the park with my kid. I will be going out and buying another Digital Elph camera b/c I've had such a good experience with this one.

Bad experience

The camera was ok but a year later it stopped working out of nowhere.
We were told that we would have to pay $250 approximately in order for canon to repeat it.
So of course we bought a different camera.

Great camera

I've had this camera a few years now and transported on road trips, to Europe, to Japan. I have dropped it probably half a dozen times and the bastard just won't die. A week ago I was hiking up a mountain in Japan and exhausted, I accidentally let the camera slip out of my hand. That means while the lens was extended it dropped from my height, six feet, down onto a rock, then kept smacking down the hill from rock to rock. When I picked it up it was badly scratched, the lens was a little malfunctioning, but it STILL worked.

Oh, and then at my hostel I accidentally dropped it from my bunk bed about 10 feet off the ground...and now the camera works perfectly again. This is the most immortal camera I have ever come into contact with.

Plus: great features, fits into pocket, large screen, etc etc.

CL) PS3) CANON A720 IS DISC BY MFG

Customer Review :

this is an afterthought review

I returned this product because of shutter lag & not really enough zoom for me. The seller was more than helpful & accomodating. I bought a Canon SX210IS. It has just as much shutter lag. At any zoom over 10x you need a tripod - which is difficult on any trip moving with a group. BUT MOST important is the lack of viewfinder!! It is dramatic how many photos are out of focus for lack of ability to steady camera against one's head. etc etc

Great product

I have been using this product for almost 2 years now. As for amateurs it is great. It does everything it specifies.
The only think I do not appreciate is the digital zoom. It is not perfect but works if you really need it. The battery last long as long as you choose a good one (like Sanyo Eneloop).
5 (amateur) Stars for this product.

overpriced hardware failure

* The first thing I noticed when I got this camera is that it would not hold a date. The button battery compartment and holder are poorly designed such that the battery does not stay touching the contacts. I managed a work-around by folding a small piece of paper 2 times and placing it between the battery and the holder.
* The auto-focus is very poor, and due to the small screen size, many times I could not tell a shot was out of focus until I viewed it on my computer at home.
* Flash recharge takes FOREVER.
* Battery level indicator will tell you that the batteries are low only a few shots before it shuts-down.
* DO NOT USE A POWER CORD WITH THIS CAMERA! I used a power cord, and the camera decided that all batteries from that point forward were not good enough. Brand-new alkaline batteries with 1.8V on each were deemed insufficient by the camera, which insisted "change the batteries." No matter what batteries I put in, I got that error. I became tied to the power cord.

Excellent Balance of Camera Capabilities

The Canon PowerShot A720IS is an excellent camera. It has more advanced capability than a simple point and shoot, but is very easy to use. The optical image stabilization is an important feature. I find it very useful to have a view finder because often in bright sun it is very difficult to view the screen on any camera. Canon makes a great product. They should offer more in this size/price range with a view finder. I highly recommend the A720IS.

Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.

Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Question : accesories for canon digital camera which makes me look like a pro?
haha! so i bought a new canon digital camera a Powershot a2000 IS. are there accessories that can make my photographs look pro and beautiful?and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!

Answer:
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.

Question : Which is the best canon digital camera?
Hey, i recently purchased the Canon digital Elph, and it really sucks at taking pictures. I mean its good overall, but it gets REALLY shaky, and i would prefer something that is very durable. I believe there are certain types of canon cameras that work really well in taking pictures. Not really interested in the whole professional camera's only small digital cameras. What are the good ones? (From canon only)

Answer:
Here, take a look.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/Actually all Canon cameras can take excellent photos. The user just has to understand the limitations under the conditions they use the cameras."REALLY" shaky shots are caused by using too slow a shutter speed when hand holding the camera. This applies to cameras that cost under $100 to the $8,000 Canon professional DSLR. Changing cameras will not solve this problem. It can be reduced some by buying a camera with built-in image stabilization system

Question : I want to buy a pink canon digital camera, whats the best one and where can I find it?
Okay, can someone please give me a link or something to a pink canon digital camera? Thank youu :]

Answer:
I looked at my favorite electronics stores online and was not able to find a pink Canon camera, however, I was able to find a Samsung S730 in pink. This is a great camera, I bought one for my mom in red from digitaldealz.net. Here is the link below: http://www.digitaldealz.net/product_info.php?products_id=20689

Question : Where can I get a nifty screen protector for my Canon digital camera?
A friend told me that they make those plastic protector things (that adhere just with static electricity) for digital camera screens so you don't scratch them. he said you can get them specifically for your make and model so they fit perfectly. I have a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. Where can I find a protector for it?

Answer:
If you chose to go with the plastic protectors go to Walmart and by the targus at 2.79 than cut them by yourself. There are 4 in the box so if you make a mistake just throw it and cut a new one.If you chose to go with a custom made one made of glass be ready to spend around 30 dollars. Is it worth it for a camera that cost 240? Your call, I chose the Targus for my G10.

Question : What kind of batteries should be used with Canon Digital camera A 570? Any specific brand?
I have recently purchased Canon A 570 Digital camera. The batteries have gone dead I have replaced the old Panasonic batteries with brand new Duracell battery however the moment I inserted the batteries I get battery low display. Are there any specific brands that we have to purchase and any specific model? Can we use rechargeable batteries?Which recharger should I use? Any specific brand? Please let me know the exact name of the model/brand of batteries.

Answer:
Yes, of course you can use rechargeable batteries. In fact, that's what you SHOULD use. Any good name brand of rechargeable NiMh battery and charger will do. Make sure they are high capacity (something like Energizer 2700mAh or higher).Your camera only uses 2 AA batteries, so make sure you buy 4 batteries and a charger that can charge 4 batteries at a time, so you always have a spare set.To lengthen your battery life, make sure you turn off the LCD in between shots, and also limit the use of the flash, zoom and recording of movies.Make sure you always give the batteries a charge before you plan to use the camera. Especially if you have not used it in a while, because NiMh batteries will discharge at the rate of about 1/2 -1% per day when not used. You can also use Lithium batteries (such as Energizer e2). They are non rechargeable and fairly expensive, but provide a much longer battery life than ordinary batteries. They are perfect as an emergency backup...and the good thing about them is that they do not discharge when not used.good luck...

Question : How do I unlock my memory card on my Canon digital camera?
I have a Canon Power Shot SD1000 Digital Elph. I have a memory card that I took pictures on, and somehow the memory card is locked. I let someone hold my camera, so I don't know how it got locked in the first place. It won't let me access my photos, and I know it's the memory card not the camera because the other memory card works. What do I do?!?!?!

Answer:
If you look at the memory card it self there should be a small switch on it. Slide it back and your ready to go!

Question : Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.

Answer:
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands. As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor. The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.
