first digital camera i owned
i got this camera from my sister about 2 yrs ago for my 20th high school reunion. i worked like a charm. have had it ever since than until i tripped and broke it. it was a great camera and wish i never broke it. the only problem is that when you are outside it is hard to see the pitcher on the screen in the sun light.

Great, easy to use digital camera
I really enjoy using my digital camera. It's very easy to use and transferring the pictures to my computer is also very easy and simple. Would highly recommend this product.

Very good picture quality
I liked this Canon PowerShot camera. I bought this camera based on the fabulous customers' reviews in Amazon.com. Recently I had to take some pictures in a house without any lights in a cloudy late afternoon. This camera gave me very clear pictures with its flash in this type of environment. As long as you position your camera towards the object and hold it steady, you will get a very sharp picture with the automatic flash even you could not see the target clearly with your eyes.
I used to have a Fuji FinePix S3000 I bought from a local store based on a salesperson's recommendation. This was a very stupid camera with a heavy and big body and gave shady pictures. The camera broke somehow last year. I will never buy Fuji camera again.
I had a analog-type Canon PowerShot camera before and I think I liked that old camera.
I would buy Canon PowerShot cameras again If necessary.

Excenent little point and shoot.
I read a reviewer in PC world who said " My 3 year old son can take pictures with this cammera". He was right. I put in automatic mode, and concentrate soley on composition now. The camera works supriseingly well in very low light stuatuions, if the light is below a certin level, the flash automaticaly fires. I have only scrathed the surface of the capabilities of this cammera. AND it was only a few dollars over 100 $. It's only drawback?, I only get about 70 shots from duracel battiers, other brands give me less that 35 shots. Also the incuded memeory chip will only let you take 12 pictures, buy a 4 or 8 gigabyte card as soon as the cammera arives. Either should give more than 500 shots in memeory.

CL) CANON A560 POWERSHOT DIG CAM
Customer Review :
The Best Point-n-shoot I have ever used
I love its portability, ease-of-use and picture quality. It has enough options to control exposure, timings, color temp etc for a amateur photographer. (The 5-star ratings are keeping in mind what I expect from a point-n-shoot camera. Obviously the picture quality is not as good as a SLR.) I have used it extensively and loved every bit of it. Except recently, when it died due to lens error. I guess some particles (sands?) got stuck in the lens system. Now it fails to start. The repairing cost is not justified. I would highly recommend this camera unless you are a serious photographer and need something more than point-n-shoot.

Great
My daughter-in-law bought it for our son for a gift and he loves it. It takes great pictures.

A560 A Great Camera
I purchased this camera nearly three years ago. One thing, which goes for all new cameras...it that you have to committ the time to get to know your product, how it works, settings, etc. You can't just pull it out of the box and start taking once-in-a-lifetime family vacation pics! I always take out of the box and shoot stationary/fixed objects. I will shoot my backyard shed from my kitchen door, potted flowers [red] from my front porch, the tree in the parkway, my truck in the driveway, the flag [red/white/blue]. All of these will be taken at different modes and rates of zoom. At that point I will look at on my pc screen and make adjustments to the settings etc. If a camera plain out sucks, I bring it back asap! My first digital was a Canon A80 nearly seven years ago which has worked great. My six year old son [who I grudgingly have to say takes better pics than my wife] is using it as his first digital [he trained on disposables for about 2 yrs.]. I bought this A560 to use on job sites to take before & after construction pics etc. I wanted something good that would not cost too much since I usually keep it in my work truck. It takes AA batteries and I have only used hi-end rechargables in it which last a super long time. With a 2GB card I have it set up to take about 1200 pics, which is way more than I will ever need at one time. A large card like this is nice when you want to take video clips which this does with sound. Never had a problem, many of the things that could be improved over the years have [size/battery/processor] to keep up with the market. I know that canon has a lot of new product in their line-up and that some folks have had mixed reviews with some of their entry level models. I looked at a few in the price point I paid for this one [$100-150] and some seem "hollow" and flimsy. I am in the process of getting a new camera for my wife and I'm probably going to buy a SD1200-is, it is the least expensive ELPH with the D4 image processor [their most advanced] and at $159. And like the old A80 and A560 it is solid and feels durable.
I have looked at many, many, many... models of cameras over the years from ALL of the major makers. I like and frequent [...] for excellent reviews, I like to read other end-user reviews also. I have always choosen the Canon so far for a good balance of price/quality/performance. Everyones needs are different. And there are some Canon models I definitely would not buy. I have had/seen friends and family use Sony and Nikon models I really liked but they were the higher end [pricey] compact models.
If you can find an A560 less than $100 new or a solid refirb at a good price BUY IT. It will be a dependable workhorse. And is better than all of the sub-$100 units from any make I have seen currently.

BUYER BEWARE ON THIS PRICE!!!!
This camera is no longer current for Canon. Check the Canon web site. On their site they show retail price of $150. Why would you pay $400. My son-in-law recommended it, but also indicated it probably was no longer available from Canon unless they had some left over inventory. He also said he paid a little over $100 when he bought his. I guess Wall Street Photo is trying to subsidize the execs!

Bulky but good!
I have owned several Canon Powershot series cameras and they perform really well. I have had the A560 for about 2.5 years and it's about time I buy a smaller camera (i'm purchasing a Canon Elph SD940is). The A560 is durable and it is still in great conditions! The only problem I have with the A560 is that it is too bulky to carry with me all the time. The fact that it uses AA batteries is actually great, the only thing is that you must have rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. Regular disposable batteries won't last for a day with a camera like this. The flash is great and the Macro mode is better than average. I don't think it performs very well in low-light conditions. Overall it's a good purchase if you don't mind the extra volume and if you have a battery charger.

Equipped with 5.0 Megapixels of resolution, a 4x Optical Zoom and many of Canon's most popular shooting features, this is a camera designed to make digital photography simple, fun and rewarding - from the moment you take it out of the box.

Canon Powershot A640
I purchased this camera because it was a mid-range camera from Canon, not too small or too big. Yet, still had some flavor with the attachments. For a small camera, I used the telephoto lens to shoot pictures on trip to Australia this summer and the added length was the best compared to other slim powershots. With 10Mpixels and 16x total zoom, and all the features that the A640 comes with, is a sure bet to keep a person busy learning and better use the A640.

Excellent camera, but DO NOT buy for $531.99!!!
this is a very good camera with only a couple flaws, and i am very satisfied with it for the $220 i paid at a camera store. i really can't believe the $531.99 price tag. the MSRP is only $299.99!! just look on the canon website: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=14109
the camera has a ton of manual controls plus full auto features as well. it produces great images and is easy to use. the pivoting LCD screen is very helpful when you are trying to take pictures from odd angles (like pointing up from the ground). it takes REALLY nice video, in full 640x480 VGA. and the ability to edit the video on the camera itself - cutting away portions you don't need without deleting the whole file - is extremely useful when you have limited space on your card
i only have 3 minor issues with this camera:
first, the camera has no real battery life indicator. yes, there is a "low battery" warning. but you wont know if you are fully charged, 3/4 charged, 1/2 charged, etc. battery life is great with 4 NiMH batteries, but with no real way to know the charge level, it's best to either change the batteries before each outing, or always pack a spare 4 batteries
second issues is also battery-related. there is no way to charge the batteries while they are in the camera. you will need to have your own wall-charger.
third, is not truly a flaw in the camera. the issue is that this camera does not shoot in Camera RAW format. RAW isn't necessary if you just want to snap some pictures to share with friends online, but if you want to do professional-level color and exposure correction in photoshop, RAW will allow give you much higher quality in the end result.
so basically, this camera is great for amateur-level photography and decent for semi-profession stuff too, but don't get ripped off by this retailer.

Canon's repair service was excellent for me...
I have owned my Canon PowerShot A640 for many years now and have been very happy with it. Great picture quality, good battery life, excellent display, fits in my right hand perfectly, and the 1Gig SanDisk ultraII memory chip I have in it holds a heck of a lot of pictures and it hasn't lost any files. Downloading pictures to my Mac laptops [OS 10.4.11 and OS 10.6.3] via a USB cable is a snap and it's totally compatible with iPhoto .
Others have written about the A640s features and impressions, but I wanted to document my experience with Canon's repair service. A couple of months ago I stupidly placed the camera loosely on the rear seat of our SUV - when I opened the door at our destination naturally it fell out onto the hard pavement. The only damage thou was to a tiny plastic hook on the body of the camera which holds the battery door closed (the hinged door and it's latch mechanism were fine) but it made the camera totally useless - the door must be closed properly to power the camera.
Hating to give up on this fine unit I checked out the Canon website and found it's repair center. One nominal charge covered diagnosis and return shipping. I sent the A640 in, received an email a few days later confirming that they received my camera and giving me the final repair cost. The repaired camera was returned to me within days and I am totally satisfied. In total it took 6 business days and the actual repair cost was only a few dollars. Highly recommend them.
Definitely using Canon repair has extended the life of my A640 and saved me the high cost of a replacement purchase. Not too many consumer electronics can even be repaired these days.

Not Flashy, Not Good
I've owned mine for a little more than 18 months. The camera is fine, if nothing spectacular. However, the flash has completely quit working. A brief internet search reveals this to be a very common problem so use extreme caution if you're looking to get this item. You've been warned (I wish I had been).

Was a good camera - but now a piece of trash
I bought this camera in 2008.It had been running fine till date. The overall picture quality is good. Though it generates a lot of noise at low light . My previous camera, A80, didn't have this problem. I guess when they try to cram too much megapixels into the the sensor of same size, it ends up in high -sensitivity. The swivel LCD is the greatest benefit of this camera.
After 2 years of good service, it suddenly went berserk. Initially when the flash was turned on, it just kept on showing the charging indicator and would never charge up. After that, that became ok, but now the image is very dark when taken in auto or the Scene modes. When taken in program mode, the exposure is ok, but the shutter speed is very slow. I took it to the repair and they told they have to replace the entire board(processor I believe) and it would cost me Rs 5000( $100) !!! What a shame.. I had always been a huge fan of Canon, and now I am totally let down.

Another great Canon PowerShot
First of all, I've owned several Canon PowerShots, way back to the S10 when memory cards were like $50 for 32 megs. Except for one, the SD450, the image quality has been excellent on all of them. Canon's are known for their image quality and this one holds true to that. The downside to all the PowerShots prior to this one has been how awfully slow they were in taking shots, especially in low light or at night. The delay from the time you push the button to the camera actually snapping the shot could be excruciatingly slow and infuriating. I absolutely loved my S400 in every way except for how freaking slow it was in snapping shots. I couldn't tell you how many shots I have of my dog's butt/tail because I didn't properly point the camera 10 feet in front of her and take the shot just right to account for that horrible delay.
Finally, a Canon PowerShot that is quick! There are some shots that aren't quite lightning fast in lower light, but this is expected and the performance is FAR better than any other Canon I've owned. The SD450 had decent performance, but the picture quality was subpar.
Another problem I've always had is poor battery life. This one can take about 200 shots before needing to be recharged. Compared to my last camera (the SD450), that's about 3 times as many shots. So the battery life is much improved.
On a side note, another problem I've had which most ppl would probably not notice is a few dead pixels showing up over time. Canon seems to have fixed that in the last couple generation of PowerShots and it isn't an issue with this one.
I like the fact that it has no viewfinder, who uses that thing anyway? The screen is huge but the resolution is not any better than my old S400 with a tiny 1.8" screen so all shots look kind of fuzzy. I very rarely have a shot out of focus with this camera so I don't worry about it. Besides, regardless of screen size or resolution it is going to be really hard to tell if a shot is a little bit out of focus and you'd have to zoom in to tell anyway.
All in all, this is a great camera and the best PowerShot I've owned to date. I'm extremely happy with in and plan to keep it for a long time.

Excellent companion for a travelers
I brought my 5D with my fancy lens collection on my trip to Korea. Now almost 2 weeks into it, I've only opened my camera twice. This niffty little camera can handle most practical situations. Very good in low light situations (thanks to IS) and very good light metering. I have been very impressed with this camera and will recommend it to anyone in the market for a point and shoot. (This is my 6th point and shoot! None other have impressed as much as this!!)
Aside from the fantastic picture quality.. few things I really like about the camera. - the power button is small and is hard to "accidentally" press. this protects the lens when it's in your pocket. I've broken several PS cameras in my pocket this way. - very inexpensive aftermarket batteries are available. - ability to delete images based on date range.
I'm sure there are other thoughtful features I'm failing to list here... all in all, stop reading and buy.

Great Little Camera!!
I had purchased the Canon PowerShot SD980IS 12.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Ultra Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3-inch LCD (Silver), but was not happy with he picture quality in auto mode. I tend to upgrade my pocket camera every year, so have used a variety of PowerShot cameras over the years. I traded the SD980IS for the SD990IS and am VERY pleased. Picture quality in ALL modes is superior to anything I've used in the past in the PowerShot family. Colors are vibrant; pictures are sharp. Manual and semi-manual modes are easy to use and provide great flexibility.
I ended up purchasing a refurb model from one of the Amazon associates, and am quite pleased. I've never tried a refurb, but other than a fingerprint on the case, the camera was perfect. Highly recommend.

Still a great camera....
I purchased this camera a year and a half ago to replace my SD550 (which I gave to my wife). This camera had one of the best low light image quality at that time. This camera was definitely worth the upgrade from the SD550 due to its speed and preset settings and longer battery life.

one of the best
ive been using this camera in a variety of situations, indoors and outdoors, studio and field and am qualified as a photographer and artist to review it. i have found the camera to be versatile and portable with incredible image quality. the zoom lens has jammed as i have got send in it both on beaches in canada and in the desert in california but in both circumstances repeated openeing and closing of the lens mechanism has seemed to remedy the problem. zoom lenses are vulnerable in this way and i think all zoom lenses are susceptible to this problem. that said, the camera is amazing and worth its price. i would recommend it to any level of photographer. the controls require some learning however but patience will pay off in fine photography. well done, canon.

Questions & Answers
Question : Which is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera ?
I'm panning to buy a good digital camera and i'm wondering which is better a sony digital camera or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest ?
Answer:
Sony tends to be lower end. They're limited on lenses and feel cheap. Sony has been making SLRs since 2006 and Canon since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?

Question : Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.
Answer:
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands. As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor. The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.

Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.
Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Question : How do I unlock my memory card on my Canon digital camera?
I have a Canon Power Shot SD1000 Digital Elph. I have a memory card that I took pictures on, and somehow the memory card is locked. I let someone hold my camera, so I don't know how it got locked in the first place. It won't let me access my photos, and I know it's the memory card not the camera because the other memory card works. What do I do?!?!?!
Answer:
If you look at the memory card it self there should be a small switch on it. Slide it back and your ready to go!
|
Question : What canon digital camera body do you recommend to fit my sigma zoom lenses?
I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that came with a 28-80 mini zoom macro and a 70-300 macro super.....I want to get a digital that i can still use my lenses on.Any recommendations? Would it be cheaper to get just the body? Im looking in the $500 range.I am not a pro, but hope to get a good camera to learn that will last.
Answer:
Sure, you can buy something like the entry level Canon Rebel XSi or XS and will save buy buying only the body. If you want a wide angle lens, you will find the "kit" lens (18-55 mm IS) will give you a decent wide angle view.
