Perfect for outdoor activities.

seemed to have trouble focusing in lower lighting areas with this camera. but other than that, the camera loads of fun!

The camera was built for rougher environments and does an exceptional job!!!

Took it snowboarding and caving (muddy cave) - using the AKT-DC1 Accessory kits shoulder strap. Which I'd definitely recommend!

I'd recommend this camera for any outdoor enthusiast!!!!

More Great Canon Quality

March 15th 2009:

I am going to start out with my initial thoughts then will add my comments as time goes by. I just got the D10 today, I had it shipped to my work so that I could get it earlier in the day! I had all ready purchased an Maximal Power DB CAN NB-6L Replacement Battery and a car charger so I would have a fully charged battery to play with. Turns out that the Canon battery has some charge all ready on it so I didn't need the other battery right away.

Taking it out of the package I was very impressed with how well put together it is and how solid it feels. I have had many of the Canon Powershot cameras starting with the S210 way back in 2003. This is the 4th camera in the Powershot series that I have owned. From my initial take this is really a good camera. Due to the waterproofing it feels very solid and seems to be well made. Since the camera is more rounded they were able to place buttons in areas that are easier to reach such as the zoom and zoom out buttons are now on the screen side of the camera and are easier to manipulate then on my SD750. It also seems that they beefed up the brightness of the screen due to the fact that this camera is meant to be used outdoors more then most cameras. I was only able to take a few test shots so I can comment too much on the most important feature of the camera but from the few random test shots in bright sunlight it seemed to do very well.

March 16th 2009:

Well we got the camera to the pool to put it through it's paces. The pool has large indoor kids play area with water slides and stuff to play on. We got a fair amount of light in from the windows so we could take some shots without the flash if we were on that side of the pool. Before going in the water I opened both doors and visualy inspected the seals for any foreign substances that might make the seal not work properly. I plan to do this everytime we use it in the water to be 100% sure that we don't have any leakage issues. I would venture a guess that most people that have had their camera leak ended up with a small hair or other foreign material on the seal. I was really happy at how well the flash worked on the D10. I do have a SD450 that I bought a waterprrof enclosure for but I could never get the flash to work like it should. Since this camera is not that bulky the flash worked very well.

I was also impressed with the scene modes. I had a few issues with non flash indoor shots until I switched it to the indoor scene mode, at that point my pictures looked much better without the flash. Controls are easy to use, I like where the zoom keys are it is just taking me a while to get oriented to which button does the zooming. My wife was a litte bit skeptical that we needed another camera but she is a big believer now that we have it.

Great underwater Camera

I borrowed this camera from a friend for my trip to Hawaii. It was easy to operate, and took great underwater pictures even when I forgot to turn on the underwater mode.

I think that it's weight is irrelevant, as with a strap it floats in water.

I liked it's shape, it was easy to hold.

It's battery lasted more than three hours of continuous picture taking without flash. Flash did deplete it fairly fast.

It survived several 2-3 feet drops.

It survived a 20 feet free dive in the water, which is impressive.

What amazed me about this camera is Canon's image stabilization. Even with waves' bobbing action and fishes moving rather quickly, most images managed to come out crisp and colorful. It also managed to focus on the moving fish, rather than the background most of the time. I also noticed that I got better pictures by getting very close to the object rather than zooming, because of inherent limitations of underwater photography.

I never experienced any leakage, but then every time I opened any of the seals I did it after rinsing the camera in fresh water, wiping it dry, and putting it in front of a fan for an hour to dry.

I'll have to buy it for myself.

leaked

picture quality was pretty good but leaked after second use, the disposable cameras take nearly as good picture quality and I have never had one leak. Hopefully cannon will take care of it under warranty.

Leak in shallow water

This camera leaked the second time I used it. This first time, I took it snorkeling and it worked perfectly. The second time out we were tubing in a river and it leaked in no more than three feet of water. I followed all the directions in the instruction manual to the letter and it stilled leaked. Now we have no pictures from the trip of a life time. Cannot recommend this camera to anyone.

Customer Review :

Nice Camera with a small price tag

Perfect photos, acceptable videos and LCD,easy usage ,acceptable size and weight.

It might be as well to be icons on function buttons more understandable. For example:OK text on the button is more understandable than "Func set" text, on the zoom In/Out buttons it would be better to set icons like magnifier with +/- symbols than strange big tree/small trees.

Conclusion:
As a matter of fact I'm satisfied.

Canon PowerShot A380 10mp

I like this camera plus that fact I got it in my favorite color BLUE....I only find one thing I do NOT like. My last canon had a zoom in lens to 23X, this camera is only 13X. While that is good, I would rather focus a little closer. I recommend this for daily use. I am never without my camera. This is light and easily portable. Anyone who gets this will be happy about it.

Great Camera

My sister in law got this camera first. The first time she asked me to take a picture of her, I knew I had to have one too. It's very easy to use and the picture quality is amazing. It has many different functions, including a 2 and 10 second timer, and the ability to automatically take three pics in a row (on a timer). It's also compatible with sdhc cards. There's only two cons as far as I can tell. One, before you take the picture and you're looking at the lcd screen, it's a little fuzzy. But it always shows a clear picture afterwards. And two, the flash takes a while to recharge, like 5-10 seconds. Other than that, it's simply a great camera. I didn't get mine from Amazon though. I got it from Walmart because it was a little cheaper there.

Good but could use a better lens

I was very excited to get this camera. I've had Canon products in the past that I've loved, and I was especially excited for the 12x optical zoom. I've had it for 6 months now and must say I'm not as pleased as I'd hoped to be. The photo quality is ok, but my old SD 600 with 3x optical zoom and a Zeiss lens had MUCH more crisp pictures. This camera also seems to have trouble focusing at times, even when it's not zoomed out. I do enjoy the wide angle lens, and the zoom has gotten me many shots that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. But really I'm overall dissatisfied because I want my pictures to be more crisp, and it's just not happening no matter how hard I try.

Not fast enough

My Canon Digital Elph from 2005 has a slightly faster shutter speed. I like to catch action, and although this camera takes incredibly better photos than my Elph, the frames per second are severely lacking for 5 years later if you want to continuous shoot and get some action shots.
It's a bit big and the battery does not last as long as my 2005 camera either.
I did return it, just waiting for my refund.

Produces high quality pictures, wonderful colors and I never had any problem with this camera.

I got this as a gift from my father last November. I'm using this until now and so far I have never encountered any problem with it. Picture quality is superb! I even have some pictures which can be mistakenly taken by a DSLR. I especially love how I can set the settings manually (such as the focus, aperture, shutter speed and color)and the great number of features I can choose from! Recording video is really not bad considering I am using a device which mainly functions as a camera and not as a camcorder so I suggest you don't complain about it at all. With proper lighting, video quality could be really great. When it is dark though, of course the result would be grainy, as any other video camera or camera (on the same price range) would result to.

One great feature is the panoramic shots you can create using photostitch, a software included when you buy the camera. You can merge 3 or more photos into one using this and it is very user friendly too!

I highly recommend that you buy this camera and try it out for yourself. It is great for people who want to try photography as a hobby but wouldn't really want to invest too much on it. It will give you a great and hassle-free experience!

Here is a sample of a picture I took using this camera. It was taken at night with personalized settings and automatic flash. [...]

Customer Review :

Great camera for the above-average user

Pros:
Excellent daylight picture quality, with good white balance in auto mode.
Good picture quality for low-light and night shots, especially after you take control of some of the settings (especially ISO - keeping it under 400 really helps). I had to go to the manual white balance modes only a handful of times - other than that, I was really happy with the automatic mode. For some indoor shots, the warm colors of incandescent lighting might be even considered a plus.
Fast, shutter lag in non-existent once the exposure and focus are set - makes it much easier to capture those split-second moments. Once you realize how the auto-focus operates, it's easy to have the camera focused properly in no time.
Slow synchro flash option, and 3 levels of flash output in manual mode - that way you can avoid the over/under exposure situations caused by the flash. Being able to use the flash as a fill-in to compensate for a backlit subject, while avoiding overexposing a very interesting background is a big plus.
Fully manual controls.
Good choice of semi-automatic controls.
Optical image stabilization - and it works, too!! I was able to take a picture of a CH-53E Super Stallion helicoper, hand-held, at max zoom, with the helicopter being about 2 miles away - and I still had enough resolution in the picture to be able to count the blades on the rotors.
AA batteries - try buying a proprietary Li-Ion or charger at a gas station. Ni-MH rechargeables are cheap and easy to find, and if you can't keep those charged and ready to go, you won't do any better with a proprietary battery. I read reviews from people complaining about battery life - there's something wrong with their batteries and chargers - I have three sets of 2300 mAh NiMH batteries, and all of them are good for some 400 pictures.
Good zoom lens, decent optics - F2.8 for a 10x zoom lens is impressive.
Small enough to carry around - thus, when the perfect shot shows up, you'll have something to capture it with.
Decent continuous drive mode.
Standard USB cable, the kind that you already have a dozen of them around the average household.
Good, intuitive, easy to use menus.
AA alkaline batteries and 128 MB SD card included - so you can test your camera right out of the box.

Cons:
No printed user's guide - just a quick reference guide.
Only supports PictBridge, no way to have it set up as a mass storage device for picture transfer. Easier to use an external SD reader.
No viewfinder - although the LCD does a good job by itself.
Battery level indicator - it would be nice to get more than a "Low battery" indicator. Once you see it, you can take another 20-30 shots with a set of NiMH batteries.
Some purple fringing along the edges, especially when transitioning from an overexposed area to something a lot darker. Not a lot, though - I've seen much worse. Did some experimenting with some infrared LEDs, and got the same effect and color - so I'm starting to believe some of the purple fringes are caused by infrared light hitting the sensor, slightly off focus due do the higer wavelength. I'm still looking for an infrared blocking filter to test this theory in full.
No optical zoom during movie recording - only digital.
No 3:2 picture aspect ratio - only 4:3 and 16:9
No automatic exposure bracketing mode - it can be done manually, without too much hassle.
Could benefit from longer exposure times, and smaller apertures - but the available selection covers about 95% of the situations that you would encounter in day to day photography. A software hack developed by a group of enthusiasts, called CHDK, is in the process of being ported to the SX120 - it will provide, among other things, exposures up to 64 seconds, the ability to take RAW pictures, battery voltage, live histogram and optical zoom during movie recording.

Overall, after using it for 6 months and taking more than 2000 pictures, I would give it 4.5 stars - it's not perfect, but for this price, you can't beat it.

Focusing Died

IMO, look to purchase an alternative camera. I'm not a camera buff, just looked for a reliable and functional unit. Initially, I was well pleased with this P & S. Pictures were quite adequate and it was easy to use. Downloading images to my pc was a snap - used windows photo gallery. After three weeks of moderate use the auto-focusing mechanism began to grind. Finally, it got to a point where it would not focus at all on small objects - e.g. print. The macro function was useless. Focus capacity died. Returned it - searching anew.

A good substitute of my Canon A570

I had lost my Canon A570 camera in a house break-in. I got a replacement from Canon, the SX120, to give me a better zoom capability. It does that. I was surprised by several things. Even though the lens is much larger, it actually seems lighter--and thinner. The LCD is bigger, now 3". The wider lens in normal (1:1) use captures more light and is apparent in indoor shots. The camera is rated as 10X but with two extra megapixels, it will actually go up to 40x is you are willing to settle for a .jpg that we had in 2002 (a tripod is a must). The color seems somewhat better--the A570 seemed to be a little "cooler". The only negatives--quibbles actually--is the lack of an optical viewfinder which was probably sacrificed to make room for the larger lens and the lack of a panorama mode which I never used and is readily available with shareware. I did like the flip-up flash which is gives more light than the one on the A570. One thing you definitely will need is a larger SD chip to hold the larger pictures, the one that came with the camera is only 128mB (the A570 came with a tiny 16mB SD.) However I got a 4Gb SDHC card for $16 which holds 1400+ pictures. I find that the SX120 is a better camera than the A570--definitely an improvement.

whats up with no charger?

This is a nice camera. Takes decent shots if you don't know anything, just put it on the auto setting and you'll get good pics. HOWEVER, the battery life is TERRIBLE. It takes 2 AA batteries and I have to change them almost every time I use the camera!!! It is so annoying and I always have to keep AA's where I go in case it suddenly dies on me. All my other cameras have had chargers that charge the camera and hold the charge for many uses. I hate this AA thing!!

Best third Canon I've owned

I just got back from Israel. I took this camera with me and was so happy to have gotten shots at a moment's notice. The quality of the pictures is amazing. I found I did better on a manual setting for shots in which I had time to set up. Just a rotation of the wheel on the back and I had the shutter set and I was ready to go. I only use Duracell 2650mah batteries in my Canon. They perform for almost two days of shooting. I was on this trip with another who had the same camera, the SX120IS, and he only had the akalines which came with his. They lasted almost half a day. I shared some of my batteries and he was very pleased with his camera after that.

The only real drawback for this camera is it's hard to grip. I had a PowerShot A530 that I loved, but it suffered from eating batteries. i had sent it back and they fixed it, but three years later it got hungry again. That is when I got this one. If the bump on the front were bigger I would feel better about holding it. As it is, I used the wrist strap all the time and it was fine. If you have a camera strap, use it. You'll have a nicer camera for a longer period of time.

I have 680 shots from my trip and they all came out great. Just push the shutter halfway down and make sure you allow the camera to focus before taking any pictures. Love my Canon!

Awesome Point & Shoot Camera...

I've been a loyal Canon SD user for many years. Previously had the SD400 (until it got stolen) and SD600 (gave to my brother). Now after having the newer Canon SD940IS for a month, I feel this camera's sleek and compact style packs a lot of punch. The Black color is also stylish and a good change to the default Silver cameras I've had before.

The video quality on 720p HD is amazing and the photos are awesome to capture those special moments. I thought I would need a viewfinder on the SD940IS, but it wasn't necessary since I rarely used the viewfinder on my previous models. Battery life is fairly good, you'll probably get a good 4-5 hours if it is on constantly. I carry a spare just in case.

Only one knock is that there is no full manual mode like I had on my previous versions, but the HD video mode overshadows this feature.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this camera. Well worth the price and comfort!

Decent digital camera with HD video recording

I got this camera just a few weeks ago and I shot a few movies in 720p and a few hundred pictures. It's the third Canon SD camera I have so I am quite used with the series. The first one died after almost 6 years, the second is still in use after 3 years.
The camera looks small even if it's the same size as the other 2 - it's because the rounded corners. The buttons are OK, the menu has a huge selection of modes, but not a manual one, the image quality is very good for a camera with lenses and sensor that small.
Recording video is easy and the quality is good, but there are 2 serious problems: 1. the length is limited not to the space on the card but to some limits Canon imposed with no evident logic behind it and 2. the video is recorded as H264 (great) in a .MOV container (very bad). Editing the video with popular tools like VirtualDub is almost impossible because of the poor choice of the container - AVI is far more popular.
One strange problem with the camera is that opening the door to the card compartment shuts down the camera even if the lens is out. I understand why to shut down (it is possible to extract the battery) but no idea why it does not retract the lens.

Mostly good

Great camera - had it about a week now, but there is definitely a fault in its construction/ease of use. The ON switch and the buttons on the back are set flush with the camera body making it very difficult to navigate with - especially in the dark.

Otherwise its an excellent camera - happy with the quality and its ability to take photos in low light without a flash.

Video quality seems excellent too.

Question : Suggestion for a canon digital camera?
Hi guys!I'm planning on a getting a canon digital camera (i alr have my dslr hehe) and the canon digital camera is for me and my family to share :) Yeap!Any ideas or suggestions which one i should get?

Answer:
Canon's latest EOS 7D mid-range DSLR is a pretty good option. It sports an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, 19 point auto-focus system, an intelligent viewfinder, and 8 frames per second shooting. Additionally, it includes Canon's Dual DIGIC 4, an advanced imaging processor, which is the real engine behind EOS 7D's efficient and high resolution photography. If DSLR is not in your wish list, you can buy a Canon PowerShot or a more stylish Canon IXUS camera. IXUS range of Canon cameras is slimmer, has all the latest features, and looks elegant in hands.

Question : Which is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera ?
I'm panning to buy a good digital camera and i'm wondering which is better a sony digital camera or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest ?

Answer:
Sony tends to be lower end. They're limited on lenses and feel cheap. Sony has been making SLRs since 2006 and Canon since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?

Question : how to know whether a canon digital camera have a bluetooth option or not?
and how to know the model no. of a digital canon camera,by seeing that. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Answer:
I don't think canon or any other camera has bluetooth but they might have something like wireless file transferring from camera to computer.

Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.

Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Question : Which is the best canon digital camera?
Hey, i recently purchased the Canon digital Elph, and it really sucks at taking pictures. I mean its good overall, but it gets REALLY shaky, and i would prefer something that is very durable. I believe there are certain types of canon cameras that work really well in taking pictures. Not really interested in the whole professional camera's only small digital cameras. What are the good ones? (From canon only)

Answer:
Here, take a look.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/Actually all Canon cameras can take excellent photos. The user just has to understand the limitations under the conditions they use the cameras."REALLY" shaky shots are caused by using too slow a shutter speed when hand holding the camera. This applies to cameras that cost under $100 to the $8,000 Canon professional DSLR. Changing cameras will not solve this problem. It can be reduced some by buying a camera with built-in image stabilization system

Question : I am buying a Canon digital camera, which is the best model in the SD line?
I have narrowed my digital camera purchase down to the Canon SD line. I am looking at the 850is, the 750 and the 1000. I can't seem to find many differences between the 3 and was wondering if anyone had any experience between any of these? Thanks

Question : What canon digital camera body do you recommend to fit my sigma zoom lenses?
I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that came with a 28-80 mini zoom macro and a 70-300 macro super.....I want to get a digital that i can still use my lenses on.Any recommendations? Would it be cheaper to get just the body? Im looking in the $500 range.I am not a pro, but hope to get a good camera to learn that will last.

Answer:
Sure, you can buy something like the entry level Canon Rebel XSi or XS and will save buy buying only the body. If you want a wide angle lens, you will find the "kit" lens (18-55 mm IS) will give you a decent wide angle view.
