Gave shutter problem after 1 year of use
I had the camera for about 1 year after which it's shutter stopped opening fully. Sometime it will open half or sometime not at all. I searched web about the issue and it seems that it is known issues in canon models.

Near perfect camera, very reliable
After two years of perfect service in several locations in Italy, France and US I can say that this is very reliable camera, with semiprofessional features. It's need a lot of juice from the batteries, and you need definitely rechargeables, but the pictures are fantastic even with low light and in motion. It can be used as a point-and-shoot but allows manual and artistic touches.

Hardware failures
I received this camera as a gift in 2007. Like other reviewers, I experienced a lens opening failure. The lens cap would not open all the way. It cost $120 and about 6 weeks to get repaired. I got it back and the USB connection is dead. I have to use an external card reader to retrieve photos.

Great camera for people wanting something more than a point and shoot
I have had this camera for 2 1/2 yrs. I purchased primarily because of great reviews at the time. I wanted a camera that took quick pictures of my grand kids, had good zoom function and was light-enough to be carried in my purse. This camera has exceed my expectations. I have learned to shoot in aperture priority, change the white balance and ISO as indicated by setting and subject. Overall pictures of grand kids as well as vacation scenery have been terrific. We have been pleased with the video---though having a zoom for it would be a plus.

Not a "Pro" Camera, but quite near...!!! Excellent picture quality!!!!
Please let me first explain that I'm not in like manner, a digital photo freak. Four years ago I used to run around with a much smaller (and simple) Canon digital camera (PowerShot A560 - 7.1 mp) but when I read about Canon's SX100IS and checked out its features, immediately fell in love with it!
I've been using it continuously for almost two years, never had a failure or a "lens error" message. Since I started to use this camera, I loaded it with a 8 GB SDHC card and took all my pictures in the Auto mode with excellent results. I paid $300 for the camera, the SDHC card and carrying case (including taxes, because I live out of the U.S.) but I think I got a good price anyway!
The photo quality is REALLY GOOD for a camera with such lens size (and price level). The 10X optical zoom feature is A MUST for close-up shots!!! Even open range and skyline photos (sunsets at the beach) were taken, with an awesome image definition!!!
However, it's true that battery life is quite short, so don't forget to carry an 8-pack of fresh AA batteries everytime (specially, if you're planning a long trip with plenty of photo shooting).
I really don't know if newer Canon models for this camera may have a better performance, even with larger megapixel capability. Really, I'm quite happy with this camera, and I would consider to change it only if I find a much better model in a really cheap price. Thank you Canon!

Great Camera!
I bought this camera in part because it had the widest angle (28) in a still compact camera size. I only use the automatic functions, not being a true camera buff. That given, I love it! It takes great pictures, has lots of functions, and everyone who sees it says Nice camera and Nice pictures!

Its ok
This camera compromises on a lot to fit it all in. Thus it does not do any one thing super well. But it does do many things. The image quality I would prefer to have a slightly oversaturated color. I almost always have to tweak outdoor pictures. Does not take good indoor(low light) photo's compared to other smaller cameras, flash overfill. Is rather fragile. The lens distortion is huge when trying to capture vertical items. Video is adequate.
Probably the best camera out there with all the features and still fits in your pocket. But a lot of compromises. If you want better outdoor and event photos, and don't need to fit in your pocket, definately look else where, something with a bigger lense.
For indoor photos or basic outdoor photos, one of the smaller pockets would do.
Rating :
Good, compact but not durable
I have owned this camera for 4 years now.
Pros - Beautiful landscapes. Amazing outdoor shots and colors Easy to carry. Good response time. Good video too. I have made a few trips, shot photos/videos at a couple of marriages and the comments on my landscape shots have generally been 'which camera do you have? Wooh that's costly for a non-SLR camera but the landscape shots are surely good.'
Cons- Indoor shots suck big time, flash power is too weak. I used a extra flash which had multiple levels but the light level indoors would either come too bright or weak and it would be just right only a few times.
I had bought it for around 600+ dollars(including the cost of accessories) when it had come out and was impressed by its build quality. It really looks cool and compact. But it turns out the prices of compactness is paid in the life of the camera. Since the lens retracts back and out it has a good chance of getting damaged. It looks like some sensors(battery/door/lens sensors) have got damaged.
That moving part stopped working a few weeks back. It does not start up and the repair cost will be at least half the cost of a good new camera. I have film cameras bought buy my dad's uncle at a yard sale in the 1950s that still work fine. I was expecting this camera to last me for at least 10 years. I am very disappointed that it has become unusable in 4 years.
I would have loved to give this camera at least 4 stars but wanted to give it only 1 for not being durable. Finally I am giving it 2 for at least good 4 years of service. They don't make them like they used to anymore. Will be trying a Nikon next.

Great camera - but fragile
I loved this camera. I really did. It took beautiful pictures and its the closest compact camera I've ever had to a DSLR. But drop it once - and say goodbye. I've had lots of cameras over the years (mostly sonys) and they can usually take a few bumps and bruises. I dropped this thing one time - and not even on a particularly hard surface, and no more camera.
Rating :
Great pictures.... Costly repair prices!!!
I actually loved my S80. The pictures I took of my children were beautiful and the camera is very easy to use. It operates extremely well in low light situations, is easy to take anywhere, and easy to download pics to computer.
I am heartbroken that after only 3 years of ownership, it is broken beyond repair. I did initially have problems with the lens cover not closing as other reviewers did, but usually if I took the battery out and charged it and then returned it the cover would close. Recently I accidentally leaned on it in my backpack. It was in a protective camera case, but the pressure of my back against my backpack broke the display screen. I took it to a repair shop and was told that to repair it would cost about $20 less than buying a new camera on Amazon. I am very dissapointed that it seems that these cameras are so throw away. Why can't canon control parts costs so that repairs can be made and cameras salvaged. Anyways, I am going to add to the landfill situation and toss my camera and buy a new one. I want a canon, but with the parts situation and lack of repair facilities I may have to look at another brand. Too bad.

Questions & Answers
Question : I want to buy a pink canon digital camera, whats the best one and where can I find it?
Okay, can someone please give me a link or something to a pink canon digital camera? Thank youu :]
Answer:
I looked at my favorite electronics stores online and was not able to find a pink Canon camera, however, I was able to find a Samsung S730 in pink. This is a great camera, I bought one for my mom in red from digitaldealz.net. Here is the link below: http://www.digitaldealz.net/product_info.php?products_id=20689

Question : Where can I get a nifty screen protector for my Canon digital camera?
A friend told me that they make those plastic protector things (that adhere just with static electricity) for digital camera screens so you don't scratch them. he said you can get them specifically for your make and model so they fit perfectly. I have a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. Where can I find a protector for it?
Answer:
If you chose to go with the plastic protectors go to Walmart and by the targus at 2.79 than cut them by yourself. There are 4 in the box so if you make a mistake just throw it and cut a new one.If you chose to go with a custom made one made of glass be ready to spend around 30 dollars. Is it worth it for a camera that cost 240? Your call, I chose the Targus for my G10.

Question : What canon digital camera body do you recommend to fit my sigma zoom lenses?
I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that came with a 28-80 mini zoom macro and a 70-300 macro super.....I want to get a digital that i can still use my lenses on.Any recommendations? Would it be cheaper to get just the body? Im looking in the $500 range.I am not a pro, but hope to get a good camera to learn that will last.
Answer:
Sure, you can buy something like the entry level Canon Rebel XSi or XS and will save buy buying only the body. If you want a wide angle lens, you will find the "kit" lens (18-55 mm IS) will give you a decent wide angle view.

Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.
Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Question : Which is the best canon digital camera?
Hey, i recently purchased the Canon digital Elph, and it really sucks at taking pictures. I mean its good overall, but it gets REALLY shaky, and i would prefer something that is very durable. I believe there are certain types of canon cameras that work really well in taking pictures. Not really interested in the whole professional camera's only small digital cameras. What are the good ones? (From canon only)
Answer:
Here, take a look.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/Actually all Canon cameras can take excellent photos. The user just has to understand the limitations under the conditions they use the cameras."REALLY" shaky shots are caused by using too slow a shutter speed when hand holding the camera. This applies to cameras that cost under $100 to the $8,000 Canon professional DSLR. Changing cameras will not solve this problem. It can be reduced some by buying a camera with built-in image stabilization system

Question : What kind of batteries should be used with Canon Digital camera A 570? Any specific brand?
I have recently purchased Canon A 570 Digital camera. The batteries have gone dead I have replaced the old Panasonic batteries with brand new Duracell battery however the moment I inserted the batteries I get battery low display. Are there any specific brands that we have to purchase and any specific model? Can we use rechargeable batteries?Which recharger should I use? Any specific brand? Please let me know the exact name of the model/brand of batteries.
Answer:
Yes, of course you can use rechargeable batteries. In fact, that's what you SHOULD use. Any good name brand of rechargeable NiMh battery and charger will do. Make sure they are high capacity (something like Energizer 2700mAh or higher).Your camera only uses 2 AA batteries, so make sure you buy 4 batteries and a charger that can charge 4 batteries at a time, so you always have a spare set.To lengthen your battery life, make sure you turn off the LCD in between shots, and also limit the use of the flash, zoom and recording of movies.Make sure you always give the batteries a charge before you plan to use the camera. Especially if you have not used it in a while, because NiMh batteries will discharge at the rate of about 1/2 -1% per day when not used. You can also use Lithium batteries (such as Energizer e2). They are non rechargeable and fairly expensive, but provide a much longer battery life than ordinary batteries. They are perfect as an emergency backup...and the good thing about them is that they do not discharge when not used.good luck...

Question : what is the latest model of canon digital camera and what is diffrences between these ?
i have bought cannos sd 630 . But i know there is latest model of canon digital camera in the market . So i want to know what can i do with my cannos sd 630 and what can't i do ?
Answer:
The Canon SD 630 is a very good compact camera.I don't think you should worry about the other models for now. I would wait till next year to see what is coming out. They are...SD800 IS, 7.1 MP, 3.7x opticalSD900, 10MP, 3x opticalA630, 8MP, 4x optical but larger in sizeThe two SD models just have more megapixels and the newer processor. And the SD630 has the same excellent movie mode...and has a large 3.0" LCD. Just make sure you use a fast SD card.

Question : accesories for canon digital camera which makes me look like a pro?
haha! so i bought a new canon digital camera a Powershot a2000 IS. are there accessories that can make my photographs look pro and beautiful?and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!
Answer:
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.

Question : Which is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera ?
I'm panning to buy a good digital camera and i'm wondering which is better a sony digital camera or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest ?
Answer:
Sony tends to be lower end. They're limited on lenses and feel cheap. Sony has been making SLRs since 2006 and Canon since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?
