This is really a great camera to this day

I've owned this camera since 2002.

I wanted to purchase a really great camera that was next to professional, as I design websites and have an Interior Designing company and wanted to be able to put up professional pictures of my work on my website.

I did an extensive search on the Internet and found that the Powershot S30 was rated in the top 5 cameras at that time for the price range of around $300.00. This rating was consistent with many top rated sites such as Amazon and CNET.

It was not what I was looking for in size and weight as at that time smaller cameras were the rave, but I decided to trade that in for it's features and picture quality. I went ahead and made my purchase over the net.

I have not regretted it. The camera was just as it boasted. The pictures were awesome! I still own this camera to this day and among the sea of 8 mega pixels and all the latest rave, my 3.2 mega pixel pictures sits just perfectly right up there with the rest.

On the downside, the camera has a clumsy way of powering up and down, as you have to slide this piece of metal accross the zoom lens. But this is really nothing to write home about. Also, the delete image button is a little testy as well, but again, you can get around that.

Since my camera is 6 years old now I do have some wear and tear and other problems. when I power up with that sliding metal, the lens sticks and won't open out and sometimes I have to give it a little shake and a thump for it to open out. If the lens doesn't open out the camera won't turn on. And that is all the problem I am having now. I managed to drop my camera a couple of times and even cause some dents on the body but no internal damages... still works perfectly.

I wouldn't bother to buy a new camera until it breathes it's last breath, but now I will have to as I am having problems turning it on. I think it's trying to tell me to let go and move on. But I'm moving on to another Canon though, they are tried and true. Although I must say I own Sony this and Sony that, but the Canon Digital camera to me is much better.

So I'm on to researching again... although I do say I still see Canon in the top 5 so far.

Canon Power Shot S30

Love this camera. easy to use and takes wonderful pictures. Was very upset that I could not still buy it in a store. Found it on Amazon.com. We have the underwater case for it also. Takes great pictures of the Coral Reefs in Cozumel Mexico. I would recommend it to everyone. This is our second Power Shot S30 and would buy another if something happens to this one. This one is going to be for special occasions only.

Very good for the price these days

I've had my camera for about 5 years now, I think it takes great pictures overall. Redeye is a problem I've noticed like some of the other owners, even if you have redeye reduction turned on it's still a problem. Aside from the redeye problem with flash, it takes incredible daylight photos. Bright, colorful, amazingly clear with alot of nice manual modes and auto mode is also very good. Very durable also, I've dropped my camera many times and it keeps on working.

Canon PowerShot S30

The camera was delivered on time. It wasn't a new item, and the description matched the real product.

Junk!

This Camera, the Canon S30 is a piece of junk. Owned it for two years and it has stopped working.
It shows a fully charged battery as low and you can get two pictures before it stops working and tells you to get a new battery.
Even at its best it was a terrible camera. Save your money and buy something else.

No Buyer's Remorse For This Camera

I have owned this camera for almost 3 years now and I have never had one complaint about it. It takes great pictures and has a lot of features. The camera is small enough that I can carry it in my pocket and easy enough to use that my 4 year old daughter was taking great pictures with it after just a few lessons. I also want to say that I have dropped this camera a few times on the hard concrete and it is very durable. It has never malfunctioned or given me any problems at all. I purchased another one for my girlfriend for Christmas because she loved my camera so much and was always using it when I wanted it. Her camera is also great and I am very happy with both purchases.

I won't bore you with all the technical stuff. You can find that elsewhere. I just wanted to say that this is a great camera and if you are thinking about getting it you should.

I've had this camera for 4 years

I received this camera as a company anniversary present 4 years ago. It has proven to be extremely dependable and is very easy to use. It is powered by 2 AA batteries. At first I tried rechargeables but they drained very quickly. I then tried alkalines but was again unimpressed. Finally, my wife convinced me to try the Energizer E2 lithiums and I've never looked back. With those batteries in the camera, I reach the point where I feel the need to replace them "just in case".

I travel extensively and the camera is always with me. Last year my wife tried to upgrade me with the Canon A570IS but I keep on with old faithful. I heartily recommend the Canon family of pocket sized digital cameras for both performance and reliability.

Quit after a year and a half

Avoid Cannon. Build quality is horrendous. No good reason caused this camera quit working. I bought the Panasonic LX3 as a replacement and will avoid any and all Cannon products. I remember how popular the AE1 was and what a horrible camera it actually turned out to be so I should have known better.

    Can not power on

I bought this Canon G7 from Amazon in April, 2007. It worked very well for me until in March, 2009. It does not power on anymore. I push the power button. It does not work. I recharged the battery. It does not work. I switch another SD memory card. It does not work.

Basically, it is useless for me right now.

    Outstanding point n' shoot.

    Short and simple.
I got this camera as a gift, from my uncle who is a pro. Best camera out there! For point and shoot, for family, and other purposes this camera is all you will ever need! Unless you are a pro? This is it!

Bought it last year. Completely satisfied.

This camera does an excellent job. It has the best "auto" results I've ever seen in any digital camera AND it lets me adjust whatever manual settings I want to use for every specific situation.

The macro function works just great and the auto white balance delivers surprinsingly natural colors (not to mention the additional WB selector and custom WB).

The Image Stabilizer always comes in handy. Even photos taken from inside a car in motion will look still. The 6x optical zoom is fast and reliable. Too bad you can't use it when recording video.

ISO 80, 100, 200 and 400: Amazing results; sharp details and clear, natural, rich colors for most light conditions. I'm a flash hater so I often use ISO 400 indoors.

ISO 800 and 1600: Add some noise to the pictures, but in return you get higher speed shots for dim light scenes that otherwise would be impossible to get without flash or tripod. The resulting noise when using these ISO settings is not that bad compared to other cameras I've used before.

The video recording feature works fine for not being a camcorder. Pretty fast exposure adjusting and convincing WB in its fair-enough 640x480 px.

I bought it last year and I just can't stop taking pictures (I've shot more than 4000 with it by now). Even though I'm a perfectionist, most photos look so good they don't need any post editing at all.

If I got my camera stolen or broken, I would buy it again. I'm so pleased with the results that I'm now looking for its waterproof case, an extra battery and the wide angle lens.

    don't buy

I bought this camera and mistakenly kept it in my pocket. Lens completely fills with dust. Its a manufacturing flaw when the lens retracts it creates a suction which sucks dust into the sensor. There is no way to clean it except to send it back. Do not buy this camera.

Excellent little camera - Great bang for the buck

I have owned this camera since it came out on the market. I have used many different digital cameras - and I believe this one has been the most user friendly and produces very fine images. It is well constructed- I take mostly outdoor/nature photos and having traveled extensively with this camera it has held up remarkably well.

I spent over 8 months in one year on fishing boats in the Bering Sea...no problems. This camera captured thousands of images (intervolometer option - awesome!) inside it's waterproof housing while strapped to the steel gantry's of 100' ships in less than ideal weather...no problem.

This camera went with me to the top of Ecuador's highest volcanos...only problem was the LCD freezing - now there are a few 'spots' on it...but hey...that was my fault and it wasn't exactly warm up there at 20,000'

So, yeah...it's a nice tuff little camera.

Canon S-70 is NOT worth more than $300max!!

It was a descent camera at the time. I bought it in 2005 for about $390 something from BuyDig(finally a place that gave me no hassle, or the ussual run around.)
With wide angle lens, sliding lens cover. But here's what I learned: The slider is flimsy, and comes off of it's sliding rails sometimes, it doesn't do too well in low light. Forget about trying to take a candle lit shot of an altar. I ended up taping a piece of tissue to compensate for the overly bright flash. Above 100iso setting things tend to get rather grainy. This is a very sensitive and finicky camera to work with, you can have it on a setting that you like and as soon as you close the clam shell your setting disappears, and you're back to the default settings that may or may not work for you. Also the mode dial moves too easily, so you gotta be careful when you pull it out of your bag.

So save yourself the money. Because if you were to look on current market for point & Shoot digi cam, you'll find other cameras that are (1)cheaper, with (2)higher mega pixel counts, (3)Built in image stabilization/vibration reduction etc. (4)Slimmer body(so you don't look like you're overly excited, or have a pet gerbil hiding in your pants)

Finally, if you've been shooting film SLR you probably won't be satisfied with most digicam unless you're getting Nikon D3, or Canon EOS-1Ds MkIII.
Because unlike film cameras, the processor in those little digicam decides almost everything if it doesn't live up to standards you're stuck! ...with grainy, unnaturally color balanced images.

    Nice camera

Nothing to complain, except slightly heavy and bulky (not too much though). Compare to my old S30, the battery life is greatly improved, and the turn-on time is shorter too. Picture quality and functions are also very good. Really love it. And its control is quite user friendly.

This is a replacement for one I dropped a few years back when I fell. The quality of photos and the ease of use were impressive then and again now.
The size is right, even if it's a little heavy than the new ones now, and the fact that the battery can last for days ( or 400 photos) is fabulous! I had a Nikon that sucked batteries like breath mints.
I didn't buy the camera on Amazon as planned, since the seller neglected to state that the view screen was defective. I cancelled my ordfer and bought it elsewhere. All's well that ends well.

    Questions & Answers
Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.

    Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Question : How do I unlock my memory card on my Canon digital camera?
I have a Canon Power Shot SD1000 Digital Elph. I have a memory card that I took pictures on, and somehow the memory card is locked. I let someone hold my camera, so I don't know how it got locked in the first place. It won't let me access my photos, and I know it's the memory card not the camera because the other memory card works. What do I do?!?!?!

    Answer:
If you look at the memory card it self there should be a small switch on it. Slide it back and your ready to go!

Question : Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.

    Answer:
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands. As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor. The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.

Question : accesories for canon digital camera which makes me look like a pro?
haha! so i bought a new canon digital camera a Powershot a2000 IS. are there accessories that can make my photographs look pro and beautiful?and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!

    Answer:
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.

Question : looking to buy a canon digital camera?
I am looking to buy a digital canon camera. if anyone knows anyone that is selling one, please let me know.

    Answer:
If there is not one near you try B&H or Adoramas used department Calumet may also sell used equipment. Buying used from a reputable company will give you some protection that you are getting what you think you are

Question : Which is the best canon digital camera?
Hey, i recently purchased the Canon digital Elph, and it really sucks at taking pictures. I mean its good overall, but it gets REALLY shaky, and i would prefer something that is very durable. I believe there are certain types of canon cameras that work really well in taking pictures. Not really interested in the whole professional camera's only small digital cameras. What are the good ones? (From canon only)

    Answer:
Here, take a look.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/Actually all Canon cameras can take excellent photos. The user just has to understand the limitations under the conditions they use the cameras."REALLY" shaky shots are caused by using too slow a shutter speed when hand holding the camera. This applies to cameras that cost under $100 to the $8,000 Canon professional DSLR. Changing cameras will not solve this problem. It can be reduced some by buying a camera with built-in image stabilization system

Question : Where can I get a nifty screen protector for my Canon digital camera?
A friend told me that they make those plastic protector things (that adhere just with static electricity) for digital camera screens so you don't scratch them. he said you can get them specifically for your make and model so they fit perfectly. I have a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. Where can I find a protector for it?

    Answer:
If you chose to go with the plastic protectors go to Walmart and by the targus at 2.79 than cut them by yourself. There are 4 in the box so if you make a mistake just throw it and cut a new one.If you chose to go with a custom made one made of glass be ready to spend around 30 dollars. Is it worth it for a camera that cost 240? Your call, I chose the Targus for my G10.

i have bought cannos sd 630 . But i know there is latest model of canon digital camera in the market . So i want to know what can i do with my cannos sd 630 and what can't i do ?

    Answer:
The Canon SD 630 is a very good compact camera.I don't think you should worry about the other models for now. I would wait till next year to see what is coming out. They are...SD800 IS, 7.1 MP, 3.7x opticalSD900, 10MP, 3x opticalA630, 8MP, 4x optical but larger in sizeThe two SD models just have more megapixels and the newer processor. And the SD630 has the same excellent movie mode...and has a large 3.0" LCD.
