Editorial Review :

The versatile, affordable Canon PowerShot A100 features a 1.2-megapixel sensor (for 1,280 x 960 images for prints at sizes up to 5 by 7 inches) and 3.2x digital zoom magnification. The built-in flash operates automatically with a feature that reduces red eye, but it can also be turned on or off manually for photographers seeking greater control.

The A100 offers a variety of shooting modes--such as auto, manual, movie, sepia, and black and white--to add style to your photos. You can effortlessly compose your shots using either the optical viewfinder or the 1.5-inch LCD monitor.

The included 8 MB CompactFlash memory card stores up to 32 photos at normal settings, or over a minute of video if you are shooting in movie mode. The A100 connects easily to your PC with the included USB cable so you can easily edit, e-mail, or print out your photos. The camera uses two AA batteries.

good quality photos and features for the price!

...at 1.2 megapixels...i first thought the picture image taken would not be so clear...as my previous digital camera was a 2.1 hewlett packard...but to my surprise...this camera actually produced a clearer and more realistic photo than the h.p.....the skin tone came out very natural looking...the built in flash is also surprisingly strong enough to take a picture in pitch black and yet not too bright for normal portrait photos...

...more great features on this very affordable camera are self timer...movie mode...3.2 digital zoom...high resolution 1.5" viewing screen...easy navigation of menus and setups... lightweight...efficient flash...red eye reduction...autofocus... 3 different picture resolution modes...3 different image size modes...and many more

...some downfalls to this camera maybe that it is only a 1.2 megapixel camera and the largest quality photo it can take is a 5"x7"...the batteies drain fairly fast when using the color screen to take photos(only holds 2 AA batteries)

...overall this camera is a great one...for first time digital camera owners to experienced ones as well...for the features in this camera will keep you enjoying the many uses of a digital camera for memories to come!

Beware of the flash

I find that this is a great camera for taking pictures outside. However, while inside, the camera is pretty useless unless you're a foot away from your subject. In fact, the camera tends to work better in full darkness rather than in partial light. Often I find myself having to carry a disposable camera with me which I use for inside or nighttime pictures. Also, the flash cannot be turned off...I've tried. If you do manage to turn it off, the camera refuses to focus and your pictures come out blurry. In conclusion, spend the few extra dollars to buy a camera with a better flash...you'll appreciate it in the long run.

Excellent picture quality, but drains batterys.

I bought this camera, and the batterys included only lasted about 10 minutes (cheap ones; regular ones last about an hour). But the picture queality is very good, and they turn out clear. I find it easy to use, except for the fact that when you turn it on, the flash is set to the on position always.

difficult to use but good quality pictures

I still believe in the quality of Canon cameras but after using this one for a few months, it's been increasingly difficult to get it to take pictures. When I press the button for it to take, it often does not actually take the picture and must be pressed repeatedly for it to take. I thought perhaps this was just a problem with my camera but my friend has a PowerShot A200 and complains of the same problem. This presents a frustrating problem because I cannot ask other people to take pictures for me as they do not necessarily know how to "coerce" the camera. The other problem I've encountered is that you can't change the manual/automatic settings without turning on the LCD. This causes an enormous drain on the battery. The settings are also difficult to find if you don't have your user's manual at hand.

Other than these problems, this is a great little digital camera at a good price. The pictures I have taken successfully with this camera have all turned out good and clear.

excellent photos - bad instruction booklet - eats batteries

The good features: The quality of the photos is excellent considering the price of the camera - clear and sharp with good color. Closeups are great. The photos download automatically when the camera is attached to the computer and the program lets you crop and add light and contrast to the photos before you store or send them.

The bad part: The memory card lacks space so one needs to have spares when touring. The instruction manual is terrible and the batteries run out quickly while one is trying to understand the instructions. Scrolling down the menus while hunting for options wears out the batteries. You must have rechargeable batteries on hand and to save the batteries use the view finder and not the screen....if you can figure out how! There is a long wait between pressing the button and taking the photo.

great camara

This is the best camara I have ever owned. The only one thing I can say i wish was better is the red eye, but its an easy fix to make.. The size of it is awesome, so easy to take everywhere I go, many people think its a cell phone its so small...I wish they still made it in this size...I actually own 3 of them....

Camera itself is okay but be very careful buying this camera as the power cord adaptor for this product is discontinued and no longer supported by CANON.

Love that Little Canon

I originally received the Canon Powershot SD30 5mp Digital Elph 3 years ago. On a recent cruise it was stolen, so the search to find another just like it began. Because it is so small, I have it will me all the time. It takes wonderful pictures. Everytime I take it out, someone comments on what a small camera it is, and then they can't believe the wonderful results.

Wish they still made this camera. I searched and found nothing comparable.

Great camera; none like it today

I got this camera 3 years ago as a surprise for my wife, and she has loved it. It is very small so she can always take it with her in her purse. It has come in handy in the many situations in life where you want to take a photo and you thankfully have this camera handy. Today, I suppose people use their cell phones these purposes, but as you know, the image quality on cell phone cameras is horrendous. My wife can take a real photo and circulate to her family and friends who want something worth keeping.

After 3 years of use the LCD flickers, and it will need to be repaired. I first checked to see if Canon makes anything as small, and they don't, so we will spend the money to keepo using this camera. It is not a prosumer or DSLR replacement, but it is a camera we can and do take everywhere, and so it has captured some great shots we'd have otherwise missed.

A long-time friend

I have had the PowerShot SD30 for over 3 years now and it has served me well. It is still up and running with a few minor problems. Sometimes the shutter won't completely open or close. I just give it a nudge and it goes into place, but it is still inconvenient. The buttons on the back are sticking and it's difficult to scan through pictures without accidentally pressing another button (and I have tiny fingers). But after three long years of being dragged around everywhere in my purse, this little guy has stood up very well.

The picture quality isn't as great as I wish it could have been. Indoor pictures in dim lighting are terrible, and sometimes you have to hold down the button for a very long time before the flash will even go off. When you want to catch something in the moment, you probably won't, and it's pretty hard to hold a not-so-fake smile for that amount of time.

This camera is durable and lasting in structure, but not so much in picture quality.

Editorial Review :

It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn't be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon's most innovative camera technology. Plus, you've got an advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor with evolved Face Detection Technology and the Face Detection Self-timer for extraordinary control and performance. This technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you're ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus. In addition, exposure, flash and white balance are compensated, so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed. The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD movies (and still photos) in beautiful high definition (1280 x 720 pixels) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition monitor. You'll enjoy the HD experience with no degradation of image or audio in the signal, plus the ability to display up to 130 still images at once. So the shots you used to miss are the images you'll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD unforgettable. Cheap camera for a cheap price

Reasons not to buy this camera:
1) Eats up batteries.
2) Extremely delayed point & shoot time (typically around 3 seconds)
3) Bulky and heavy.
I have found this is true with all Canon PowerShot A400s.
Hope this helped.

i just got this camera yeterday its so aweSome i love it i would recomened it to all my friends it has great picture quality and even has a camcorder mode with audio. I cant wait to use this camera but i would also recommend getting a battery pack, thats what the guy at the counter said too because it eats up the batteries so pay a couple extra bucks and get a re-charger...I LOVE IT!

Great while it lasted

This was a wonderful camera, while it lasted. The quality and clarity of pictures taken with it was amazing. Movie mode was easy to use and the mini-movies taken with it were the perfect size to upload to any website. The functions were easy to figure out if you chose not to read the manual.

The draw back? After exactly 25 days of first using the camera, it stopped working. Completely. It will turn on but that's it. No ability to take pictures or view those already taken. I'm not an avid user, I probably used it a total of 10 times. Perhaps this was a defective model I had the misfortune of recieving? In any event I plan to exchange it and see if I have better luck with another one. It was a wonderful camera when it actually worked. The lack of useage life was the reasons for the low star count.

Best Camera!! Recommended!!

I bought this camera, being a little doubtful. It was a cheap price, and the zoom was not very good. BUT.. when I got home, I realized the camera was outstanding. What was the problem with the zoom?? Only the optical zoom was turned on, the digital zoom needed to be turned on. I turned it on, and then the camera zoomed very well, and still took very clear pictures. Also, it has 2 other GREAT features: Records Videos and Records Audio(Sound).
I really recommend this camera, it is really good, way better than many other cameras, and very cheap. If you are looking for one of the best cameras, at an affordable price, this is the camera for you.

This is a great camera!

I love this camera! I got it for Christmas last year and it's a great camera! The pictures I take turn out a lot brighter and nicer than with my other digital camera. Also, there's movie mode, which I definitely like. Some things that I don't like on this camera are: it takes up batteries really fast. I recommend you buy a battery charger and four rechargable batteries so you can have two in your camera and two charging and ready to put in when your batteries go dead. Also, the card that comes with the camera only holds about 15-16 pictures, so I suggest you buy a new card also.

I've dropped this camera many times on a hard floors, and it still works! I really recommend this camera because it's light, easy to carry around, and the pictures turn out great, (in my opinion). I take this camera everywhere with me!!!

Question : Which is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera ?
I'm panning to buy a good digital camera and i'm wondering which is better a sony digital camera or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest ?

Answer:
Sony tends to be lower end. They're limited on lenses and feel cheap. Sony has been making SLRs since 2006 and Canon since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?

I have a Canon Power Shot SD1000 Digital Elph. I have a memory card that I took pictures on, and somehow the memory card is locked. Question : Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.

Answer:
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands. As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor. The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.

Question : Which is the best canon digital camera?
Hey, i recently purchased the Canon digital Elph, and it really sucks at taking pictures. I mean its good overall, but it gets REALLY shaky, and i would prefer something that is very durable. I believe there are certain types of canon cameras that work really well in taking pictures. Not really interested in the whole professional camera's only small digital cameras. What are the good ones? (From canon only)

Answer:
Here, take a look.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/Actually all Canon cameras can take excellent photos. The user just has to understand the limitations under the conditions they use the cameras."REALLY" shaky shots are caused by using too slow a shutter speed when hand holding the camera. This applies to cameras that cost under $100 to the $8,000 Canon professional DSLR. Changing cameras will not solve this problem. It can be reduced some by buying a camera with built-in image stabilization system
