A step forward in features, two steps back in image quality
Canon added a lot of features to this camera, but failed to provide a sensor that delivers good image quality.
Pros: The Canon user interface makes learning how to use this camera very easy and intuitive. I bought this camera to "upgrade" from my old SI-5 (the previous model to this one) and transitioning to the controls and ease of use was immediate.
The camera comes packed with features that make is sound like a good idea to buy: 20× zoom, included lens hood, swiveling LCD display, 1080p video, etc. And these features sound good, but fail to deliver due to the poor image quality of the pictures.
In terms of portability, it is not. It's bulky, but comfortable to use.
The video quality is average, but do you really need 1080p on a point and shoot?
The battery life is as good as the AA batteries you buy.
The cons that break the deal: Picture quality. I tested this camera as soon as I got it out of the box by taking it to a kids party. I also took indoor picture during the day, and at night (with and without flash). I took pictures using automatic settings, and manual settings. I took pictures in macro focus and in extreme zoom. And the common denominator to all of these pictures was: poor image quality.
The camera produces very grainy pictures, unless you are in direct daylight. Even then, the images have a very strange "blurriness" when you look at them in 1:1 ratio in your monitor. I couldn't believe I had spent so much money to upgrade my camera and discover the images are worse! So I tested the SI-5 and this camera side by side and decided that the image quality was, in fact, worse.
I returned this product 2 weeks after I bought it because it would not deliver the pictures I expected from it. My expectation was set on the previous model (the SI-5) that was a FANTASTIC model.
After I returned this product I bought a G11. The G11 is a top-notch point and shoot camera. Worthy replacement for the SI-5, except for one major flaw: the viewfinder of the G11 is a piece of trash, optical, not through-the-lens viewfinder. The same kind you find in a Kodak disposable camera.
If you are looking for a good camera, and you want a Canon (like me) consider the G10 or G11 a better option.

Some people are just never satisfied
While I am sure you can generally find lemons in every product, this camera is a joy to own if it is in good working order.
A note about the battery life is don't try to use regular AA batteries unless you are just in a pinch. They will last no time at all. Invest in hi quality Ni Mh or whatever they are called rechargables. They last Waaaaay longer than alkaline. I am sure the camera heads already knew this but the info may help another non-camera head like me.

No more Canons
I have used Canon cameras for many years now. I am starting to not like them any longer. I moved to this from the SX5 IS. I had to have it replaced immediately due to it taking double exposures and only putting out one photo. The Canon person on their phone was, as he put it, baffled. I sent it back and my second one was also horrible. I used it on almost every setting and and the photos were horrible. If you ask me, I'm sorry, but most of the pics on the Amazon page for this product are fuzzy and not very flattering to a $500.00 price point.

Nice camera for Elph upgrader with kids
Can an all-in-one camera do it all? No. Well, what do you expect from a camera that costs as much as a HD camcorder can. How is it as a camera? Upgrading from a Canon SD870IS (digital Elph), it is brilliant.
Pros:
High quality flash compared to Elph. Indoor shots are much nicer. The Elph would wash out the colors, whereas this camera provides pictures with nice color indoors.
Picture quality and zoom are far superior to small point and shoot cameras. There are some reviews claiming poor picture quality. I did not compare directly to the more expensive SLR cousins, but there are detailed reviews with image comparisons on sites like steves-[...]. They did not notice artifacts and other issues that people are claiming.
Parents, you will love the "sport" mode. There is no focus time when you are outdoors. If you see a shot you like, then you can just snap it right away. The pictures look great (as long as you have plenty of light). There is another mode where you can focus on a person and as the person moves it will track the focus of the individual. This mode is nice for following your busy child around too, but it's a bit tedious when there are multiple kids around and you have to tell the camera which face to track.
AA batteries: Get high quality rechargeable batteries and you will be satisfied (e.g. Sanyo Eneloop). No worrying about having to charge proprietary batteries.
Cons:
Video quality suffers indoors. The big problem is the video loses focus frequently when the lighting is not bright. Under conditions where a normal camcorder would be fine, the focus can fade in and out of the subject. I miss having an add-on light to increase lighting. I use a headlamp when indoors to compensate.
Outdoors, the video works much better. It won't replace an HD camcorder, but you can still get some nice clips.
Overall, the camera takes brilliant photos and the video is a nice option to have, especially outdoors where it is reliable.

SX1 1S, big bang for your bucks
The bottom line--a great and functional camera with a lousy operations manual. Fire the technical writer and keep the camera!
I bought this camera because lugging my Canon HD video camera and the EOS 50 with a couple of flashes and a tripod just does not work when hiking into backwoods areas. Since I am familiar with advanced Canon cameras, I did not find the operations of this camera totally unfamiliar. It does have some special bells and whistles in the automatic shooting modes that I had to practice with before feeling comfortable. The operations manual looks more like a map for an online tutorial and refers question areas to a series of remote pages. This is highly annoying when figuring out questions like how to set HD versus regular video recordings. I wish there was some way to put a basic UV filter on the zoom to protect the lens. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with the camera.
My practice with the camera has been limited to weekends, but I have been very pleased with the photo quality and color renditions on still shots. I actually hand held the video at a sheep dog trial, and the image stabilizer was wonderful at full zoom. A tripod would have been better, but I failed the boy scout motto on that trip.
This is not a camera for impatient amateurs. It requires time and attention to detail to get the advantages over the SX20, but it does exactly what I need.

Awesome Point & Shoot Camera...
I've been a loyal Canon SD user for many years. Previously had the SD400 (until it got stolen) and SD600 (gave to my brother). Now after having the newer Canon SD940IS for a month, I feel this camera's sleek and compact style packs a lot of punch. The Black color is also stylish and a good change to the default Silver cameras I've had before.
The video quality on 720p HD is amazing and the photos are awesome to capture those special moments. I thought I would need a viewfinder on the SD940IS, but it wasn't necessary since I rarely used the viewfinder on my previous models. Battery life is fairly good, you'll probably get a good 4-5 hours if it is on constantly. I carry a spare just in case.
Only one knock is that there is no full manual mode like I had on my previous versions, but the HD video mode overshadows this feature.
Overall, I'm satisfied with this camera. Well worth the price and comfort!

Great camera - had it about a week now, but there is definitely a fault in its construction/ease of use. The ON switch and the buttons on the back are set flush with the camera body making it very difficult to navigate with - especially in the dark.
Otherwise its an excellent camera - happy with the quality and its ability to take photos in low light without a flash.
Video quality seems excellent too.

Decent digital camera with HD video recording
I got this camera just a few weeks ago and I shot a few movies in 720p and a few hundred pictures. It's the third Canon SD camera I have so I am quite used with the series. The first one died after almost 6 years, the second is still in use after 3 years. The camera looks small even if it's the same size as the other 2 - it's because the rounded corners. The buttons are OK, the menu has a huge selection of modes, but not a manual one, the image quality is very good for a camera with lenses and sensor that small. Recording video is easy and the quality is good, but there are 2 serious problems: 1. the length is limited not to the space on the card but to some limits Canon imposed with no evident logic behind it and 2. the video is recorded as H264 (great) in a .MOV container (very bad). Editing the video with popular tools like VirtualDub is almost impossible because of the poor choice of the container - AVI is far more popular. One strange problem with the camera is that opening the door to the card compartment shuts down the camera even if the lens is out. I understand why to shut down (it is possible to extract the battery) but no idea why it does not retract the lens.

Already had a Canon camera that I liked but wanted a smaller one for outdoor stuff like skiing. Can't really take a nice camera to the top of a mountain. This camera is TINY. Picture quality is fine. 12MP is useless as with all new cameras. Picture quality is no different than my 4MP Canon from a few years ago.

It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn't be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon's most innovative camera technology. Even when picture-taking conditions seem pretty unforgiving, you've got Canon on your side. So the shots you used to miss are the images you'll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD unforgettable.

Not even close to the old SD500
I bought this camera for my wife to document our new born baby.
The main thing I noticed was that the picture quality was not up to par with my old SD500 camera. Really dissapointed.
On a positive note, the video quality is really good and in HD.
Cool size, but I actually thought the bigger. It's almost too small, I would have bought a bigger camera if I new the correct size.

Extremely cute and usable pocket cam with very low IQ
Comparing to my DSLRs - no comparison. Comparing to my Casio Exlime, same IQ, but better video.
Pro: - Extremely cute, well build, look&feel, better than all others I've tried, Nikon Coolpix, Casio Exlime, Sony. - Great usability for a pocket P'nS cam - very responsible shutter, ultra fast FA, IS seems to be effective. - Good video quality with AF. - Intuitive user interface. No need for manual really.
Con: - Lousy picture quality. Very lousy indeed. This point alone defeats all the pros it has for my purpose. I just need something to be constantly in my pocket in case my DSLR is not available or connenient. I remember the older Digital Elph to be bigger and more expensive but with much better IQ indoor or outside. This new Elph is a lot cheaper but the IQ is just like any other cheap cam from any other brand - a huge disappointment for my purpose. Like another reviewer said - 12MB pixel is just a marketing hoax that makes the file unnecessarily big. The IQ really isn't much better than my Canon video cam shooting still at 3MB. Ok, maybe a little better :) But not by much.
Bottom line - A great pocket cam with very disappointing IQ. For my purpose, it's useless, which really is unfortunate. Because otherwise I really love this little cam.

truly pocketable camera for snapshots w/HD video, do NOT use included strap!!!
The SD780IS is a great little point & shoot pocket camera. A surprising feature given its small size is the inclusion of a viewfinder. You'll find that most digicams these days leave this out and you're forced to use the LCD screen. It is a tiny viewfinder, but nevertheless, I appreciate that one is included. I was also surprised to find that there is a Program feature, which allows the user to choose ISO, White Balance scene mode, color settings, metering & shot modes. There are no aperture or shutter speed modes, but I'm guessing if you're looking at this camera that's not a problem. I own several digital cameras of varying cost and size, but I wanted a camera that I could toss in my bag or jacket and know that I was never without a camera (without the added bulk to remind me I was always carrying one), but at the same time took decent quality photos & video and this fit the bill. Make no mistake it won't take poster quality photos, but it will do in a pinch for snapshots and facebook/myspace, etc.
Do NOT use the included wrist strap with this camera. The metal part of the strap will scrape the camera and remove the paint. I have had this camera for several months and kept it in pristine condition. The other day I put the strap on and it scraped the paint off the edge of the camera and left several shiny rub marks that could not be removed. Why they would choose to include this strap is beyond understanding. I don't know what compelled me to use the strap as I always use fabric-only straps.

Nice upgrade from SD1100is
Well, it finally happened: the dreaded lens error on my SD1100is. I was about ready to automatically add the SD1200is to my Amazon cart until I hesitated for a second and decided to make a trip to Best Buy to play around with some of the other new cameras. I had read reviews on the SD780 and was really eager to see it in person. On the shelf, it automatically caught my eye with its sleek, black styling, and I was wondering if maybe it would be an even better companion than my trusty SD1100is was.
Truth of the matter is that 12.1 megapixels isn't going to be much more apparent than 10.0 MP (what the SD1200is has,) but to be honest, I just flat-out fell in love with the styling of the SD780. As someone who factors in a product's design and aesthetics almost as much as its functioning, this was a clear-cut and easy decision, but the SD780is isn't just about looks -- it delivers astonishing pictures as well! I'm not a person who likes to fuss around with settings and menus (like on DSLR cameras,) but I still want nice pictures! The simplicity of this camera is even more impressive than SD1100is, and the pictures are even sharper and more vibrant thanks to the DiG!C 4 image processor. The "Smart AUTO" feature really is just "Point and Shoot" too! Where there were certain settings to mess around with on my SD1100is
This camera makes perfect sense, really. It's easy to carry with you, very easy to use, so the chances of capturing that "picture perfect moment" have increased considerably over other cameras. The only thing that I am disappointed with seeing is "Made in China" on the bottom of the camera's casing. I have always valued Canon products because the company has always made it a point to manufacture in state-of-the-art facilities. I don't know how much a factor this is because a lot of people seem to have SD780s that were made in Japan, but be aware that at least some are made in China.

Awesome Pockable Camera
Alright,
First off, I am not a pro photographer. I use a Rebel XTi, and a Leica D Lux 3, so i'm not exactly using top grade shooters. I just like to have decent pictures is all.
So, with that aside, I will say that this camera is absolutely excellent to just have on you at all times. If you are looking for insane DSLR quality pictures, obviously you should be looking elsewhere. For people who can deal with some noise here and there, its totally perfect. I'm not a camera buff that's going to nit-pick this camera. I am an average person that uses a camera everyday. Ease of use is great. Menu's, changing settings, video are all easably changable. Maybe someone with bigger hands might refute this, but it fits/feels fine in my hand.
To be honest, the noise all the way up to 800 is actually pretty good. Again, it's NOT a high end point and shoot. But for $200, it out performs my Leica in the noise department. How often do you go above 800 anyway? I know even in the lowest of light, i'm either not using this camera if I want a printable shot, or you can set the exposure to be less, then set the flash settings accordingly and it's alright.
AF is pretty quick, not say G11 fast. But with moving targets, a few days of practice should warrant you the abilities to feel comfortable of trying. This is probably the only draw back. Then again, that's why I have a DSLR for action and artsy stuff.
Overall, for a camera that is inexpensive, easy to you, and very light weight this is an awesome deal. I am very happy with this camera, and so is my fiance who I originally purchased it for.

Questions & Answers
Question : Which is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera ?
I'm panning to buy a good digital camera and i'm wondering which is better a sony digital camera or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest ?
Answer:
Sony tends to be lower end. They're limited on lenses and feel cheap. Sony has been making SLRs since 2006 and Canon since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?

Question : What kind of batteries should be used with Canon Digital camera A 570? Any specific brand?
I have recently purchased Canon A 570 Digital camera. The batteries have gone dead I have replaced the old Panasonic batteries with brand new Duracell battery however the moment I inserted the batteries I get battery low display. Are there any specific brands that we have to purchase and any specific model? Can we use rechargeable batteries?Which recharger should I use? Any specific brand? Please let me know the exact name of the model/brand of batteries.
Answer:
Yes, of course you can use rechargeable batteries. In fact, that's what you SHOULD use. Any good name brand of rechargeable NiMh battery and charger will do. Make sure they are high capacity (something like Energizer 2700mAh or higher).Your camera only uses 2 AA batteries, so make sure you buy 4 batteries and a charger that can charge 4 batteries at a time, so you always have a spare set.To lengthen your battery life, make sure you turn off the LCD in between shots, and also limit the use of the flash, zoom and recording of movies.Make sure you always give the batteries a charge before you plan to use the camera. Especially if you have not used it in a while, because NiMh batteries will discharge at the rate of about 1/2 -1% per day when not used. You can also use Lithium batteries (such as Energizer e2). They are non rechargeable and fairly expensive, but provide a much longer battery life than ordinary batteries. They are perfect as an emergency backup...and the good thing about them is that they do not discharge when not used.good luck...

Question : Where can I get a nifty screen protector for my Canon digital camera?
A friend told me that they make those plastic protector things (that adhere just with static electricity) for digital camera screens so you don't scratch them. he said you can get them specifically for your make and model so they fit perfectly. I have a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. Where can I find a protector for it?
Answer:
If you chose to go with the plastic protectors go to Walmart and by the targus at 2.79 than cut them by yourself. There are 4 in the box so if you make a mistake just throw it and cut a new one.If you chose to go with a custom made one made of glass be ready to spend around 30 dollars. Is it worth it for a camera that cost 240? Your call, I chose the Targus for my G10.

Question : Which is the best canon digital camera?
Hey, i recently purchased the Canon digital Elph, and it really sucks at taking pictures. I mean its good overall, but it gets REALLY shaky, and i would prefer something that is very durable. I believe there are certain types of canon cameras that work really well in taking pictures. Not really interested in the whole professional camera's only small digital cameras. What are the good ones? (From canon only)
Answer:
Here, take a look.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/Actually all Canon cameras can take excellent photos. The user just has to understand the limitations under the conditions they use the cameras."REALLY" shaky shots are caused by using too slow a shutter speed when hand holding the camera. This applies to cameras that cost under $100 to the $8,000 Canon professional DSLR. Changing cameras will not solve this problem. Question : How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?
I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.
Answer:
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it. This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom. I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Question : Suggestion for a canon digital camera?
Hi guys!I'm planning on a getting a canon digital camera (i alr have my dslr hehe) and the canon digital camera is for me and my family to share :) Yeap!Any ideas or suggestions which one i should get?
Answer:
Canon's latest EOS 7D mid-range DSLR is a pretty good option. It sports an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, 19 point auto-focus system, an intelligent viewfinder, and 8 frames per second shooting. Additionally, it includes Canon's Dual DIGIC 4, an advanced imaging processor, which is the real engine behind EOS 7D's efficient and high resolution photography. If DSLR is not in your wish list, you can buy a Canon PowerShot or a more stylish Canon IXUS camera. IXUS range of Canon cameras is slimmer, has all the latest features, and looks elegant in hands.
