Editorial Review :

The 10-megapixel Casio Exilim EX-S5 offers a new body design, customizable focusing frames and wide-screen video recording, which makes high-quality photographic functionality simpler to use than ever before. A new, high-speed image processing engine even allows moving subjects to be cut and pasted onto still backgrounds or other images.

Casio Exilim EX-S5 Highlights

Newly-developed Exilim Engine 4.0
Representing a significant upgrade from the Exilim Engine 3.0, the Exilim Engine 4.0 is a powerful electronic package comprised of an ordinary CPU and a high-speed dedicated image processing CPU. It delivers outstanding color reproduction and a rich tonal range that guarantees superior visual expression. Noise reduction at high-sensitivity levels also helps to produce high-quality, beautiful images. Even better, despite the new image combination functionality and other functions that entail complex processing, energy consumption is about 30 percent lower than before, which means longer battery life. The new engine successfully combines the pursuit of radical new functionality with improvements to many conventional camera features.

Dynamic Photo function
Thanks to the high-speed image processing capability of the new engine, a moving subject can be cut out of a number of images that have been shot and combined with a different still shot that forms the background. A unique digital camera image where only the main subject in the photo is moving can be created using just the camera, with no editing on a computer.

Tracking AF
Using the image analysis technology in the new engine, the ability of the auto focus function to automatically follow a moving subject has been refined. In addition to improvements to the accuracy of auto focus tracking, when a subject leaves the frame the camera makes a record of it, and when the same subject once again enters the frame it is recognized by the camera, and auto focusing is resumed.

I only got this camera because I was going to Europe and needed a camera. I wanted a canon but couldn't find any in store with a rechargeable battery. I dislike this camera more and more every time I use it. The picture quality is awful. Almost everything comes out blurry not matter what mode you're in. It often freezes if you take a picture too fast or switch from picture taking to reviewing quickly. The video option is not fantastic and I find that I hardly use it. I hate that Casio does not have its own program for uploading pictures and then editing them etc... I don't use this camera much and its usually just sitting on my desk but it still has managed to start to fall apart. The lens gets stuck and a lot of time when i try to take a picture the screen goes black so I have to turn the power off and then on again. Seeing as I hardly ever use the camera, it does not make sense that it is falling apart. Don't get this camera it is a waste of money. You can get a canon one for around the same price that is so much better.

lasted 7 months, used maybe 10 times

camera was working great until the shutter stopped opening on it. It is under warranty for one year as long as they don't say it looks like we damaged it. WEll, we will see how that goes. No scratches or damage on it that we can tell. One minute it was working next minute shutter doesn't open and camera says Lens Error on it.

Make sure you save your receipt and box info for one year.

I have to pay shipping. read the other reviewers, someone else had same problem.

otherwise,t he camera takes nice pics and we are happy with the how easy the camera is to use.

The battery life is pretty good, but I would prefer a camera that takes double AA's this has a lithium battery that you take out and put on a charger that comes with the camera. Can't do anything with the camera until you charge the battery or have a secound battery for it.

Poor photo quality outweighs all positive features

The title says it all. The photos are terrible under all lighting situations. You must have a hand as still as one on a statue in order not to take blurry photos.

The craftsmanship/shell is what you'd expect for 100 bucks USD.

If you are more into shooting videos, this camera might do the trick because the quality is outstanding, but if you want stills, I urge you to pay 50 more bucks and get a higher quality point and shoot camera.

Camera was okay while it lasted, customer service is not

I bought this camera in December 2009, along with a hard case to protect it, to be the one that I carted around in my purse. It worked well until about three weeks ago when I tried to turn it on and the lens jammed, at this point the camera was four months old. I called Casio customer service, since it says in the box to call them, not to return it to the store I bought it from. Once they heard the problem, they stated that it sounded like the gears had slipped and that I would have to wait until Monday to call their service department. I called and was informed that I needed to ship the camera along with a letter describing the problem via Fed Ex or UPS to their service department in California. So, $15 and a week later I get a postcard in the mail saying that unless I can produce the receipt to prove that the camera was purchased within the last year (what was the point of registering online then???) that it would cost $78 to repair the camera or $15 for the camera to be returned to me unrepaired.
So, be warned that the camera has a limited lifespan and the camera will end up costing you more than you expect. Up until this camera, I have only owned Canon, and will now return to that.

Customer Review :

I LOVE this camera

We hesitated when we were going to get this as we had been Kodak lovers. It was during a Black Friday sale @ Target.

Mine is about 5yrs old now. I have dropped it on cement, rocks, tile, carpet, stepped on it, thrown it in my purse, spilled 7up on it and basically abused the thing.

In 5 years....the only issue was recently when my Siberian Husky bit it...made a black mark on the LCD, but the pictures are fine and the screen is readable. The camera still works like a charm.

VERY reliable brand. VERY durable. It's slim, fits in my back pocket which I LOVE.

In the 5 years I have had mine...my husband has had a Kodak that died, my mother in law had 3 kodaks that died, my daughter had a Kodak that has on going battery issues, and my sister's kids destroyed 4 Kodaks. Mine has outlasted them all and I have been the most brutal on it.

good camera, but battery sucks

I bought this camera on amazon back in 2007 and it still works like new. It's really slim and I've taken it all over the world with me and it fits in all my small purses. It's pretty easy to use and the picture quality is really good. The only problem is the battery. My first one died after a few months and I had to send it back to casio. They replaced it or fixed it pretty quickly. The battery recently died again, but luckily the replacements are really cheap.

A Great Quality Camera!

The Casio Exilim EX-Z60BK 6MP Digital Camera is an excellent buy for the amount of money you can buy it for now. On Amazon.com, I have seen this model selling for $70. If you're looking for a camera to bring on investigations that will give you a good amount of features, without anything excessive, this is the perfect camera. There are 30 picture settings from twilight and portrait, to candle light. You can also record video and audio with this camera.

The pictures I have taken with this camera are exceptional for a 6MP camera. The photos I took at an investigation in Hilldale Cemetery of May, 2009, were taken with this camera. For about 50-75 feet in front of you at night outside, the objects in that radius will show up clearly in the picture taken. Outside of the radius, objects will begin to appear grey, and faded.

The videos shot with the camera aren't the most clear, but they are decent quality for the price. The audio recording is a nice feature, and provides decent quality. After the pictures and videos have been taken, the editing features are nice. You can crop, rotate, trim, resize, and correct the color of photos. For videos, you can edit the length, and cut pieces out.

Great little camera

As an enthusiastic owner of Casio's EX-Z850, I was curious to see how they had updated that model, so purchased a refurb Z1200, and am quite happy with it though still like the Z850 and continue to use it.

Pros: the Z1200 looks nicer aesthetically, has 12.1 Mp of course, and has better antishake, and a larger viewscreen, battery is same as in the Z850 and battery life appears to be just as long, which was one of the best features of the Z850. Movie mode is practically HD quality albeit at 24fps. I like the adjustable flash intensity, which is good for macro mode. The face recognition mode sounds pretty impressive technically, but I doubt if I will ever use that, and it wasnt a consideration for me.

Cons: for me, the Quicktim MOV movie format is a step backwards, compared to the AVI format of the Z850, as my video editor will not take it directly and I have to do a conversion step. Also, the frame rate of 24fps is slower than the 30fps of the Z850 and the motion in movies does appear noticeably jerkier than in the Z850. Also the shot-shot delay time seems longer in the Z1200 than the Z850, it seems to take about 2 seconds in the Z1200, and about 1 second in the Z850 (both at max res superfine quality). The absence of the mode select wheel is a minor annoyance, I find it hard to get used to the new scheme of selecting shooting mode, which takes more time to select an option. After a month of using it, I still find myself preferring the Z850 because of the mode select wheel, and the AVI movie format.

Overall, a very attractive, easy to use, and powerful camera with excellent picture quality!

My son's Casio camera was stolen (EX-Z1080)and we found this one to replace it. It was a graduation present and he really liked it. He says this one is even better and really likes all the features. His comment was "Casio rocks!" Casio seems to make very good products.

Question : Does anyone know where I can find a new usb cable for my Casio Exilim EXZ75 digital camera?
I recently lost the usb cable for my Casio Exilim EXZ75 digital camera. Someone told me to get a card reader. Does a card reader work the same way? Which is better an usb cable or card reader?

Answer:
The USB cable applicable to your camera is proprietary. You can search the internet to find it, but contacting Casio is the easiest. Expect to pay $40+ for a new cable.Even better, just grab a card reader. It does almost everything. In terms of transferring photos, it works better (they're faster). If you want the advanced software upgrade features, or want to download images from the internal memory then you will need the cable. Note that software updates are not recommended to be taken on my novices and internal memory images can be copied to a memory card in the camera.Where to find a card reader? Well your computer might already have it. HP/Compaq has had them for a while on many models. If your computer has it, it will be on the front of your computer and one will be markes SD.If your computer doesn't have it, buy one. They start at around $15 at local stores and can be as low as $2 on http://dealextreme.com (expect to wait 4-6weeks for shipping and questionable quality). You want an SD card reader, but a multi-reader can't hurt. It'll plug into any USB port.

Question : I have a Casio digital camera and I don't know how to save videos onto my computer from the library. Help?
Basically I click upload and then it sends me straight to the library. When i try to save videos they don't do anything when I click in the file I saved them to. My friend has a Casio and says something else pops up that you can save things from, but nothing else pops up with my library. What should I do? The Casio camera help section doesn't contain anything about videos.

Answer:
The easiest way is to buy a multi CARD READER. Then connect the card reader to your USB port, wait until the driver is automatically installed, then get your memory stick from your Casio camera and insert it to the appropriate place in the card reader. When it is done, you can browse from Explorer and copy paste your files. Good Luck

Question : How do you transfer pictures or videos to your comp from a digital camera? Casio Ex-Z300 Exilim?
I have a Casio EX-Z300 EXILIM and i'm having a hard, REALLY hard time to transfer the pictures and videos to my computer. With other cameras i usually drag the picture files from the "DCIM" folder on a camera but when i do the same thing with this camera, it WONT transfer. Any ideas, plz help me.

Answer:
Do you have the camera connected to the computer? or are you using a card reader? You should be able to drag the files from the DCIM folder, but if not, you may need to copy and paste them, or use the software provided with the camera. If you are using a card reader, again, you should be able to drag the files, but try hitting copy and paste instead. When you try dragging the files, do you get an error message? Or can you not get to this stage of the process?Sorry I can't help more without more info.
