Good camera. . .
The S8100 Fuji is a good camera. . . just like a true SLR except the fact you can't change lenses, everything else is very good.

The best camera for the amateur photographer
Hi,
I bought this in Germany immediately after seeing it in an electronics store. Well the initial days were tough for me to get good pictures because I don't know much about photography and the camera settings. I have spent few days in educating myself on digital photography.
after two months.... my photos are praised by many people, by my friends and people whom I don't know. What I like most is
1. strong colors in pics 2. The optical zoom (I love it) 3. Built-in shooting modes (no need to scratch head) 4. face detection and image stabilization 5. Adjustable image sizes based on mega pixel selection 6. All buttons seems to be perfectly placed
What I don't like 1. The lens cap is always an obstacle 2. Some times the images are blurred for no reason. 3. The slowest shutter speed is only 4 sec. There is no bulb feature. 4. Some times the colors are very light that they don't look good (May be I have to learn)
Totally this camera was the best for the price (I bought for much low price at the time). For a beginner and amateur photographer this will give great experience.
Cheers Gunasekhar

Great Camera!
If you don't have the money for an SLR but want something better than a point and shoot, then this is the camera to get. I've had this camera for over a year and have taken absolutely amazing pictures with it. I've taken well over 12,000 shots with the camera, so I know how the camera will perform in certain conditions. I mostly keep it in the manual modes, so I don't have much to say as to how it performs in the automatic modes only that when I used them, the camera produced good shots, nothing special but still good nonetheless.
First the lens and auto focus: The 18x optical zoom is generous, definitely getting you close to your subject, however you get a bit of lens distortion at the full focal length. You can tell that the picture was taken from a distance Not a bit deal to me, an annoyance to others. Auto focus works well, fairly fast in daylight, but takes a bit longer in low light. An AF assist beam helps quicken the time in low light which can be turned off if you prefer. Manual focus leaves a lot to be desired, its somewhat buried in the menus, uses the zoom control in combination with the exposure button, and is very slow. Most people won't be using the manual focus so its not that big of a deal, especially since the auto focus works so well. You can select different areas to focus on, continuous focusing, and of course the face recognition. I don't often use the face recognition feature, just because its easier and faster for me to point the camera at the person, focus, then move the camera back and take the picture. It is cool however to see the camera find the faces and remove the red eye, if any, after the picture is taken. On a side note, the camera "remembers" the faces so when you go to review a picture that you've taken with face recognition you can press that button again and the camera will zoom in and show just that persons face, press it again and it will cycle through the faces of others if it found those as well. Macro and super macro modes work excellent. The super macro mode opens up a whole different type of photography. You can get extremely close to the subject and see details that you would certainly miss with other cameras
Resolution: Its ten megapixels, what do you expect? The image size is about 1.5 to 2 megabytes at full resolution, i can fit around 700 pictures on my 2 gig card. Other image sizes are also selectable on the camera if you want to save space. I was a disappointed that I couldn't shoot in raw, but then again this isn't an SLR, so don't expect it to be. One disappointing part of the camera is the noise from higher ISO settings. I don't usually go above ISO 400. ISO 800 is grainy and grows worse as you go higher. Unfortunately, the auto modes will often set at ISO 800, and in burst shooting ISO 800 is the lowest you can set.
Body: The camera feels well built. The rubber grip makes it easy to hold and feels much nicer than the textured plastic found on other camera models. The camera's not heavy, but not light either. Buttons are easily accessible and are also surrounded with a rubber grip.
Misc: Video; I consider this a bonus on a camera, cameras are supposed to take pictures, camcorders take video. Video quality is fair. You can't zoom while recording. Burst shooting; works great, provides a really cool effect, however as mentioned earlier the noisy ISO 800 ruins the details of the group of photos. Flash; works well, only mentioning it because of how it's activated. The camera can't raise the flash you have to manually raise the flash with a button on the side. I love that it does this because if i want it off i push the flash down and thats it. Other cameras take a few button presses to turn the flash on or off.
Sadly my camera is failing. I've taken it in for repair but it would cost upwards of 300 dollars to fix. The main circuit board is fried as well as a few of the motors that run the lens barrel. Even though I've only had it a year and it's already broke, I still rate it four stars because; one, I've not seen anyone else with this problem, and two, I've used this camera excessively, well beyond that of an average user. The camera would sometimes get warm/hot after taking several hundred pictures in a row. I figure this was what was frying the circuits. Again the average person won't take as many pictures as I do each day so this will most likely not happen to you.
This is a great camera, it's served me well and I'm sure it would serve you well also.

Not for indoor action
Excellent all around camera however it has two significant drawbacks. First, the flash does not acutally charge until you press the shutter. This is OK for posed stills but creates a problem when shooting motion requiring a flash as the subject frequently ends up not centred. Second, if you are using the flash regularly, (say shooting indoors at reception) you burn through batteries fairly quickly. 200 shots took three sets of 4 AAs. Fuji could improve this camera tremendously by adding a hot shoe for a separate flash and a battery pack that can keep up with constant use. Otherwise this a good camera for the money.

Great camera for the money
If you're looking for a quality 10MP camera for a good price look no further. No it doesn't support RAW format. It's a point - n - shoot on steriods. The only problem I had with the camera was that you have to remember to put the flash up...it doesn't auto pop-up.

Sensational Fujifilm S2000HD
10TH FEBRUARY 2010 **UPDATE** I have now owned this camera for a number of months and seriously I cannot fault it. NO, I am not a professional, but my expectations on what I need to achieve is high and this camera certainly lives up to it. I drove myself nearly silly researching cameras as financially I didn't want to make an error in my purchase. I knew nothing about Fujifilm cameras and studied all of the better known brands such as Canon, Sony etc. It was quite difficult and frustrating until I could finally speak to someone who could show me what I needed to know. I love this camera and now understanding more about it with the use that I have given it in the last few months, I love it even more. It has inspired me to take photos in a more creative sense rather than point and shoot and for that I am grateful. Even my husband has stated that he is happy that I updated my camera as the photos that I am taking now are awesome! I am even reading up on how to take better pics with lighting and so on. I am not ready for a SLR as simple is better for me and having the point and shoot option is very attractive. What I would suggest is go and try this camera out and see what you can achieve. I don't think that you will be disappointed.....I know that I'm not!
INITIAL PURCHASE 2009 - I didn't purchase this camera through Amazon but decided that, due to the frustration that I went through in the in depth research, perhaps this can be of help to others who are venturing into updating their camera, so......
This camera is amazing and I am totally in love with what it can achieve. I researched and researched cameras for weeks and visited many camera stores without being given any real information. In the end I was becoming confused and downhearted and almost gave in. Of course everyone has an opinion on what is the best camera etc etc etc and I researched them all, however it did seem that every camera shop I walked into wanted me to buy Canon. Well, I have never appreciate the hard sell, so unless it was proved that Canon was the ultimate (and I still need to be convinced on that one) I decided that I wasn't going to buy a Canon! I looked at all different sorts of Sony, Panasonic, Nikon and all looked to be good but not achieve what I needed in MY camera! In the end, I walked into a local John Ralph Camera Store, and as luck would have it, a kind and very experienced women finally asked me the relevant questions. Not what type of camera or brand, but WHAT exactly did I need the camera to do and what was the most important aspects required. FINALLY someone ready to listen! I am an animal practitioner and an important aspect of my work is to take before and after photos of animals in movement, in dim environments and I need a camera that can also get up really close without disturbing and document was is happening in the animal's body. I also work with horses so there are times that I am required to be able to take detailed pics of an animal that may be a distance away, and not have to be an SLR camera expert to do so! The pricing was also important so that I didn't have to mortgage my house in order to buy a decent camera that could do all that I need it to do. After discussion and taking in the facts, she showed me 2 bridging cameras, one being the Fujifilm s2000HD, and also showed me the quality of the pictures that it took. I was sold! And even though it was a little more than I anticipated it is so worth the extra dollars to me. Also the factor that it can take such awesome detailed pictures in macro as close as 1cm was awesome. Now I have had this camera for a few weeks now and am still discovering all the bibs and bobs that I need to know, but on the whole I am ecstatically happy with the results. I am still working out exposure, aperture and shuttle and so on, and I am not that excited about needing to continually read the instructions via a cd, but this camera has truly inspired me to become inventive and more creative with my photos, both within my work and outside. I actually attended a class which is a surprise even to me! Truly, unless you are anal and obsessive in your expectations about the specifics within a camera, I don't believe that you can go wrong with this fabulous camera, and it really doesn't cost an arm or a leg. It is relatively compact although you can't stick it in a pocket, is very comfortable to hold, and once you get the feel of the zoom, it makes taking photos a breeze. I love it!

Pretty good for price!
I bought this camera about a year ago... On the first day of having it I took my best photo I ever have! Since then I have continued to take amazing shots!
Pros: - Macro is simply astounding! I have out bested friends who have $600-$1000 cameras in the macro category. - Battery life is amazing! Can last me a full day on 4 charged AA's - Video function can create great movies. - Photography is really good! - 15x Zoom is great!!! - Pop up flash gives the user good options
Cons: - No manual settings: If you were hoping for manual, this is not for you. F-stop is barely controllable. Max shutter open time is 4 seconds. Etc. - Uses more batteries than some portable. - Hard to learn about. There is very little literature about it, so it is hard to find many of the settings without just playing.
Overall a great camera and great for any amateur photographer!

I love mine!
I really love my new camera. My last camera was a Samsung, that also had mixed reviews. I liked that camera as well but it met an unfortunate end. So I began camera shopping and despite some mixed reviews decided to purchase this camera. I am not disappointed at all with my purchase. I love the clear crisp pictures it takes, and the zoom is amazing! I got a beautiful picture of a crescent moon (complete with craters) that is just stunning. This camera does require a bit of studying and practicing but the results are worth it!

Fuji S2100
I purchased this camera to upgrade my Fuji S5000 that I have had for 7 years. The S5000 is still going strong but I am not allowed to collect cameras (wife said so). I perchased the S2100 from another web site at a great price. It is east ro use since it is very simular to the othe fuji camera. This one doesn't have a panorama mode which I would like, but ithas all ot ehe other bells and whistles that I was looking for in a digital toy. This is an easy to use camera that if you are familar with Fuji is simple to adjust to. This is a great beginning camera as it is easy to learn on and is automatic if you don't want to do it yourself. If you are adventurous, you can get as fancy as you want. I haven't used the video because I like the stills. I have a 16GB SDHC card in mine and I play hard with it. Depending on the features you are looking for, consider this camera.

So far I like it!!!
I got this camera on HSN since they had a special on it for $220 (and broke it into 5 payments). I just got it and I have been playing around with it. The pics are great and it is very easy to use. Be aware it is NOT an slr camera but and SLR LIKE camera...same quality but easier to use. It also has some of the bells and whistles you would find on an slr that you just can't find on other point and shoot digital cameras. I am taking this camera to Spain next week so I will post my pics when I get back! :)
As promised I am reporting back after my trip to Spain. The pics turned out GREAT!!! It was so easy to use and all the different settings are AWESOME! You just really need to read through the owners manual so you know exactly what you are doing! Once you know all the in and outs it is totally the best camera to take on vacation!!! 5 star rating from me!!!

Great camera and very easy to use I've had this camera for about a year now it can do everything, from great stills to video's its a camera that is light and you won't even know you even have it along, I've used it from shooting family to shooting bald eagles in flight. If you read the directions and more importantly experiment with the camera this is the only way you'll know what it can do. I have an slr and an array of lenses and I find myself bringing this camera out more often. All in all very happy you get a lot for the money.

awesome, love it
i also bought this camera at HSN, and i'm in love with the camera. before i have ordered so many cameras from them but i had to return them all because they just don't take quality pictures. i wanted a camcomder so tried shoppping around jvc, olumpus, g&e sonny and what else. i just wanted a camera which will take good videos and better pictures at same time, and i strongly recommend this slr style. so far no camera has been able to impress me except this one. i have had it for almost a year now has never given me any problem. sound quality is great, and i mean great even in the bathroom, you could hear every splash of water. i didn't like the other cameras because of poor quality sound, but this one is superb. clear pictures even at the maximum zoom and grate videos. buy this camera and you will thank me you did. soooo easy to use, and exceeded all my expectations. during the winter, i took some videos and pictures of the snow through the glass window, because it's frozen outside i couldn't go out, but the pictures were so great as if they were close shoots. i'm planning buying one for my husband.

Customer Review :
Love of my life.
I've had this camera when it first came out, which was when it was about $600-700, I believe. It's been the love of my life for years. This camera is quite capable of almost all the things that a DSLR can do. It's extremely fast when you turn it on. It's fast at saving photos. It's fast with multiple continuous shots. Bees? Bees flying? They're no match for this camera. It's quick. It's easy. Compared to the new Canon Rebel T1i, the Fujifilm is only a little bit slower and lower in quality even though it's a 6 MP difference.
It can get as close as an inch of a subject using the macro setting. I love love love the macro setting. Helloooo close-up bright flowers and yummy food shots. No need to buy expensive lenses. The colors are wonderful. The contrast is high. Changing the different settings is easy. The picture quality is high. I have printed large posters using pictures taken from this camera and I've never had to worry about the quality. I mostly use ISO 80-200 so I don't ever get grainy images.
All these wonderful things can be achieved using this camera ... if you read the manual and have some basic understanding of photography.
I have had friends who spent more money on Canon Rebels and have their pictures come out looking terrible because they don't read the manual and they have no basic understanding of photography, like ISO, shutter speed, aperture, and the combination of those three. My pictures rarely come out blurry or grainy. It's so easy to change the ISO setting on this camera that I change it all the time to get the best shots. Manual mode is also extremely easy to maneuver, so changing shutter speed and aperture is a breeze as well. Night shots are amazing and easy to take because the manual mode lets me control my shutter speed any way I want, for however long I want.
I bought rechargeable Duracell batteries and they last me about 500 shots. They do make the camera a lot heavier, but what the hey, I'm glad I don't have to drag around telephoto lenses all the time. Which leads me to the zoom. 28mm-300mm. The lenses aren't detachable, but with that kind of zoom, there's no need to buy other lenses. The flash is pretty quick at recharging, although I rarely use it, so I can't say much on it. I fare well without the flash because tweaking the settings (with the occasional help of the tripod) seems to work well for me.
So the best thing to do is to read the manual and look up some basic tips on photo-taking. This isn't just a point-and-shoot, so don't expect to just point and expect magic. A little knowledge is required too.

Great Camera
I had a Fuji S5200 and upgraded to the S9000 and it has been worth every penny. If you want point and shoot it is great. If you want to be able to adjust and manual operate your camera, the S9000 is as close as you can get to a DSL camera. The S9000 is a great camera for anyone.

Good for a while...
I had this camera for about 2 years. It was great for most of that time... nice pictures, good video quality. It was best for pictures done in natural light. My nature shots were great! But, recently, I started getting a line down the center of every single picture, no matter which mode I shoot in, or where I shoot. I asked a camera repair shop what happened, and they said that the sensor needs to be remapped and that would be $200. :( One guy told me that this happens a lot with Fujifilm cameras and he recommended a Nikon of the same type/price range, instead. So, it's nice for a while, but once it breaks (and I didn't even do anything wrong to the camera), it's a pretty heft price to repair it.

S9000 Feedback
The S9000 is a very nice camera. It has about every feature one could want. It took me about a month of shooting pictures before I realized that there is a very small green line that runs the length of the image on the left side. I thought it was just the lcd but when I looked at all my pictures, I realized that the flaw was from the beginning of receipt. I will check into the cost of repair. This camera was cheaper than all the rest on Amazon and I was told that there was a small crack on the battery door but it still held the batteries and that was true.

Questions & Answers
Question : Digital camera advice from Fuji owners - battery charging?
My wife's just bought a Fuji finepix z70 digital camera, we're wondering when the battery is supposed to be charged, how long on average it takes? The instructions state to wait for the charge light to turn off, but this doesn't seem to be happening. The adapter lights changed from orange to green without any further indication its going to do anything. Is it ready? Has been on charge for hours.ThanksSo is the battery ready when its turned from red to green? You dont have to wait for it to turn off completely?
Answer:
These are variable. I have a Fuji S20 that takes 4 hours, using separate AA charger.I have a Pentax that takes a battery similar to your NP-45a Li-ion and it takes almost six hours. That's why I purchased 2 extra batteries and keep them charged, so I don't run out of power.I found your battery on amazon.com for about $15 each. These batteries last long so I would start with one back up.Regarding the charger lights, it has been my experience, when the light changes to green, the battery is charged.

Question : What digital camera? Fuji A920, fuji J10. Kodak C813, Kodak v1003...or other?
I have been looking at cheap digital cameras, I have always like fuji and own one of their higher market ones for business purposes, and I have had a Kodak in the past........however I am now looking for a point and shoot camera for under £100. All the models mentioned above seem ok but I really don't know the difference...any ideas?
Answer:
I've always liked Fuji. I have had a few of them (when I buy a new one I give the old one to a charity or family member), and I have never had a problem with the. I like that Fuji uses glass lenses as they give you a better quality picture than plastic lenses. Also, I have noticed that Fuji cameras have a good learning curve, so if you are a beginner, intermediate or expert user you will find useful features. But, in that price range they are all about the same, just go for one that will have the features that you want and need.

I'd buy a disposable or borrow something from a friend. If you don't have that luxury, you could try cleaning the lens. If you do this wrong it can damage the camera. I use the same solution and microfiber cloth that they give you to clean glasses. This may solve your problem, but if not, I'd try to get something else to use. If you do get great pictures from the trip, you may want to check out the HD wireless digital frames from Ceiva. http://snurl.com/98odw

Question : fuji digital camera reverts back to japanese?
Fuji F10 camera purchased in Japan, has started corrupting files making precious photos unreadable on a computer but they can be viewed on the camera. Re-formatting the XD memory card is the only answer to making it usable again. Another issue is that the camera settings revert back to original Japanese and the date resets back to 2005 at random. Fuji tech support did not recognise the fault and their only recomendation was to return camera for service but this investigation would cost more than a new camera. Anyone else experienced similar problems?the camera is not designed exclusively for the Japanese market. It is identical to the F10 available in Britain.
Answer:
FUJI cameras often have Firmware Updates, which you should try prior to return it to FUJI for servicing! Here's the link for your model.Help that solves your problems ;-)
