Fujifilm Finepix A350 5.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom
Customer Review :
Good camera even after a few years of use.
Seeing as how I've owned this camera for about 6 years I thought it time to write a review. The last batch of reviews came from 2007,so this one is long overdue. First and foremost,I notice a few reviews of people pointing out that after owning the product for a while that sometimes the LCD screen becomes blurry, along with the pictures taken. After owning my camera for about a year I suffered from the same exact problem. However,I found a simple solution.Simply press up on the zoom button to come back into focus! It was that easy, though it took me quiet a way to figure that one out. For some strange reason the A350 quits auto zooming after so much use. At one point my camera did fizzle out on me and refused to open the lens. I believe the problem stemmed from a particular incident in which I dropped the A350. Though my warranty covered the damage and it was returned as good as new. Since the incident, from time to time I run into a little mechanical trouble, but not enough to call it a habit. The zoom works good, though a full on zoom of any particular object is almost futile, due to the fact zooming in the A350 to its full capacity causes the batteries to die very fast.In that regard this camera fails but that doesn't cause it to falter completely. The highlight of this camera is the simple construction along with an easy to use interface, with the ability to take quality pictures. I've managed to snap a few I still can't believe was capable of being taken on this little camera. If you're reading this review now, most likely you're in the market for an affordable camera that takes good pictures. This camera does this and a little more. Another feature of the A350 is the ability to record video. The quality isn't amazing but i've found it to deliver decent video considering the fact this device is primemarily a camera. It's a nice extra for the low price. By todays standards this camera is eclipsed by more modern creations but that doesn't mean it isn't without charm.

Nice but flawed
Fujifilm Finepix A350 5.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom
This is actually the 2nd of this basic model that I have owned. For the price I paid it takes good pics.
I didn't have the blurry picture issues that some folks have complained about. I suspect a lot of them were taking pictures indoors and had turned the flash off.
However, both of these have had problems with the lens sticking. The first one was an A345 and it's lens failed after about 13 months, i.e. after the warranty ran out.
I bought the A350 as a replacement about a year ago because I liked the layout of the controls on the A345 and the optical viewfinder, great for action shots. I love the continuous shooting mode, if you're trying to catch a good shot of a duck coming in for a landing or taking off, or any other kind of action shot this feature works great.
Now the lens is starting to stick on the A350. From the other reviews I've seen this appears to be a basic design flaw.
I like to carry a camera with me all the time in case there's a photo opportunity. This camera does not appear to be rugged enough for that. I'm going to take it to work to photograph equipment and test setups as long as it holds up and probably pop about $100 more for a decent Canon to carry around.

Good for what its worth.
I have had this camera for about a year. It takes excellent pictures, but it does eat batteries and recently- it finally died. None of the pictures I now take come out. Sometimes they do and sometimes they have tons of thick white scratchy lines on them. This has never happened before. I always keep everything on automatic.

a350 fuji . I guess ok for price.
I bought a nice used fuji a350. IT's good for the most part. Software is good to use, if you know anything about draging highlighted stuff over to a folder. It took me some time to figure it out. The camera in the first few weeks, the telescoping lense somehow got cocked out of possition, and would not slide back in. I don't know if it was bumped or jumped gear? I very carefully, examined it, and did some chriopractic bone snap and got it back in place and seems to work now. The pics turn out nice for the most part. , but can be blurry probably due to movement?. Im not happy with very close up's, but maybe there is a manual setting?? You must stay away about 18 inches for it to not be blurry. The flash I think is alittle under-power, so night shots should be with normal talking distance. The Video mode sucks. sound and video skip about every 10 seconds. Sometimes making the sound off track of the video for quick split second or cuts out. I don't know if this is normal or is my camera bad? but im figuring from my research it very well could be normal for this model. But the video does come in handy if your not worried about little skips or missing words due to audio cutting as well. I dont like the delay when you take a picture. THis is my first real dig. camera, comming from a kodak dc20 win.3.1 type. so I will know what to look for when i get a different one, but for now, I think 5mp will be fine for my picture taking. Bring extera batteries.

Experiencing mechanical difficulties
For 8 months, this camera did what it was supposed to. Then the lens would not open. Sent back to Fuji under warranty and 6 weeks later, it was fixed. No issues for another 8 months, then sometimes the lens opens and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it will come into focus and sometimes it won't. This = missed photos or some blurry shots. It was decent while it lasted, just bought a Canon.

Very Bad, I hate every company trying to make Non-Standar Products!
If you though this would be the easy PnP camara... naaaaa! Bad drivers, and the Awful thing is: The USB Cable, if you lose it, you're busted. Why does a company needs to come up with a Non-Standar Cable, why? for What? to get money from you when buying the replacement? that's stupid.
Power consumption... another flaw, just a couple of pictures and you're off, total discharge of 4, yes four AA batteries.
The rest is acceptable, like any other camera of its generation.

great camera with two exceptions
We found this camera at a garage sale (for $35)after our Canon died during a kayacking excursion, so we didn't do any research - we just bought it because we needed a camera to take pics of the kiddos.
Much to our surprise the camera has been great. The quality of pics are phenominal for a point and shoot. The zoom is better than our digital SLR and the camera is very user friendly.
The two areas that would keep us from buying this camera again - if given an option would be the microprocessor and the date/settings issues.
The microprocessor is S.L.O.W. as molasses. Don't plan to take this to little Johnny's soccer game. Not that it wouldn't take good pics, but it takes such a long time between pics that you cannot count on it to take many in a row. Quality A+, response time F-.
The only other down side to this particular camera would be the date/settings issue. If you plan to use rechargable batteries with this camera (taking them out to charge them individually) you can plan on setting the entire date series for the camera each. and. every. time. I suppose you could charge the batteries, in the camera, with the proper cord, but we don't have that cord - so it's a pain for us.
As far as video on this camera - don't bother - it's not a video camera. If you want a video of your first child taking her first steps ~ buy a camcorder!
Overall we're pleased. And for used, garage sale price - if it gets destroyed on a kayacking trip, we wouldn't be destroyed.
Point, Shoot, and Enjoy :o)

Poor Reliability
I had this camera for less than 2 years and used it only on rare occasions - you know, holidays and special events - so it has pretty low usage. Yet it has decided not to work. It turns on foe a second or two (with brand new batteries) then shuts itself off. Rearranging batteries and resetting factory default settings no help. Had similar reliability problems with another fujifilm camera. Fool me once shame on you, twice shame on me! Goodbye Fujifilm - forever!

Clunky, but nice pictures
Ok, bought this camera about 5 years ago. It still is alive through all the beatings we have given it. It takes nice clear pictures, but because there is a long delay in the shutter speed (FPS), we've lost some nice moments. for example, try getting a toddler to pose and smile--but by the time the image was captured in the camera, the kid is now in the next room. this requires patience!

Rating :
For the price its a good camera if you plan on shooting outdoors.
I was given this camera about 3 years ago when I wanted a step up from my old (really old) 0.5mp camera. Let me jump right into the pros and cons and I'll try to explain a little about them afterwards.
PROS: Feels good in your hands and not very heavy. Plenty of manual features to get lost in. Large enough LCD screen to see what you need before and after the shot. Buttons placed for easy reach. Cost. Good battery life.
CONS: Very, very bad low light images. No manual focus option. Even at 3.2 mega pixels the shots are still grainy. Red reduction often ADDS red eye. No interchangeable lenses. Limited video sizes and bad audio. Very slow shutter lag.
After a few years of owning this camera I really want to replace it. About 2/3 of my shots are taken indoors and this camera is useless inside unless the room is lit like a Hollywood set. The camera will not focus at any distance in normal indoor lighting. On the auto setting, inside shots always come out grainy. The flash is simply to weak to help. Since there is no way to manually focus the pictures you are constantly crossing your fingers hoping that the shot will come out somewhat decent so you can later fix the image on the computer.
The software that came with the camera does not have a red eye option to fix the red eye this camera is famous for giving your subjects. When you try to use the red eye reduction flash it always and I repeat always gives your subject red eye and always makes it worse had you left it off.
There is what looks like a screw on lens on the camera (not shown in product image) so you think you will have the ability to add a different lens. It is actually there to hold a filter. Since this camera is not a popular model FujiFilm has not made any filters (maybe 2) for you to use so its really just misleading.
The video sizes are 160 x 120 and 320 x 240. Which are ok for thumb nails but not something you are really able to watch. Since the camera is grainy at low light (meaning anything shot indoors) and the flash is only for pictures, your videos will be small, grainy, out of focus, and do nothing but fill up your memory card. The audio for the video is also useless unless you have bionic ears and can make out the mummbles.
The shutter lag is awful. No matter what trick you try you will always miss an action shot. There is a Sport mode on the camera but I'm not sure what it does since it does not help with focus, shutter lag, lighting, etc.
On the good side, it's a cheap camera but you get what you pay for with it.
I'll keep using it until I can afford a better DSLR camera but you can bet once my new camera shows up this one will be given to my teenage son to abuse.

Love the camera! Not the packaging.
This camera is great. I got it for closeups of tiny items like beads. Works great. Lightweight too. The only complaint I have is with Ace Photo for the way the camera was packed for shipping. It looked like someone had just thrown it in a box and stuffed some paper on top. I'm surprised that it arrived in one piece. Other than that, I am extremely happy with the camera.

The Finepix S8000FD Digital Camera appears more as an SLR than a compact camera. It isn't an SLR because, primarily, you can't change lenses. Why would you need to? The Fujinon 18x Optical Zoom provides unprecedented flexibility in a digital-camera. With a 27mm-486mm equivalent, the need for additional zoom or wide angle lenses is gone - this extraordinary lens is all you need. A new feature found on Fuji cameras is the ability to use 3 memory card formats for wider universality. It also uses AA batteries as a power source. AA is readily available around the world. Where ever you travel, that battery type is likely to be available, With audofocus and auto-exposure, it's among the easiest cameras to use. Dual I(mage Stabilization assures sharpness despite unsteady hand movements. Face Detection helps determine proper exposure of people pictures. Ultimately, it's a serious camera for those that want to excercise creativity and freedom in taking great still pictures and movies. It's also lots of fun! Normal and macro focus 2. 5 LCD high resolution 230,000 pixels and Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) Mode Dial for easy access of features Up to ISO 1600 at full resolution, up to ISO 6400 at 50% resolution 4xAA Battery Power for convenience xD / SD / SDHC Media Compatible Slot NTSC and PAL video output / USB On-camera edit modes Self-timer - Approx. 10 sec. /2 sec. delay Unit Dimensions - 111. 3(W)x78. 2(H)x78. 9(D) mm/ 4. 4(W)? 3. 1(H)? 3. 1(D) in. Pretty good, except in low light
I've had this camera for over a year now. It is wonderful except for low light conditions. Flash seems to be weak compared to Cannon or Sony brands. Using the high ISO is indeed grainy, but that's common with all cameras.
I think the problem is the flash is not strong enough. The camera tries to compensate by using high ISO and slow shutter speed which causes frequent grainy and blurry photos in low light situations. Make sure to use the anti-shake feature for every shot.
With adequate light however, the pictures are very clear. I have 3 Fuji cameras and have analyzed several Sony and Cannon cameras. I think Fuji excels with their Macro feature. But unless you're a stamp collector or entomologist that might not matter to you.

Not for bird lover's
I purchased this camera for its long zoom and have not been pleased. I enjoy taking photos of birds but this camera has a hard time focusing on an object that is far off. If I want to take a picture of a bird that is at the end of the zoom range and there is a tree in the background that takes up more of the frame, the camera will focus on the tree and the subject in the center will be out of focus.
The camera is near useless indoors as any picture taken of people will be blurry if the subject moves the least little bit and all photos have been extremely noisy when taken on the auto mode.
I have taken some beautiful photos with this camera but not without lots of deleted photos in the process. I am now looking at purchasing another "super zoom" camera to replace this one.

Great camera for the price range
I purchased this camera 2 years ago and am still very happy with it. It has the feel of an SLR and the configuration of the body makes it very easy to grip for 1 hand shooting. The picture quality is very good although I've found that doing a quick auto fix on a photo editing program really optimizes the photos. It does particularly well in interiors with natural light. I bought the camera because of the adjustable lens length - it goes from a slight wide angle to a fairly long telephoto which has really helped reduce baggage while traveling. My previous camera required an attachment for macro photography but macro capability is built into this camera. I was surprised by the video capabilities of the camera which I never saw mentioned in the Fuji's advertisement for this camera. The picture is very clear and good in low light although the video function requires a fixed lens length which means that you cannot zoom in or out in video mode. The camera construction seems to be of high quality with exception of the small plastic cover for the usb connection and power cord. Still after 2 years of steady use, the plastic cover is still intact so I guess that it must be more durable than it appears.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this camera to a discrimination friend particulary one who wants to travel light but still have a lot of flexibility in getting the perfect shot.

Slow; Disappointing Image Quality
I bought this camera essentially as a megapixel upgrade from my Finepix s5000, which served me very well but produced images only at 3.2MP. I am sorely disappointed with the s8000, so much so that I sometimes bring out the s5000 if I know I won't have time to set up the shot carefully. The main cons to this camera are:
1) Very slow. Lack of speed is the major problem with this camera. It is slow to start up, slow to transfer images to memory, and very slow between depressing the fire button and the picture being taken. Many shots are lost due to this delay.
2) Poor "Auto" mode image quality. Sets ISO too high & shutter speed too low, producing grainy and/or blurry photos even under normal lighting conditions. Since Auto mode is a failure, I have to manually adjust the settings for each shot.
3) Poor image clarity. Images are frequently slightly, but still noticeably, blurry. I suspect this is a lens problem, since getting the optics right on an 18x zoom lense that can also do supermacro would be extremely difficult. I think they tried to jam too many optical features into one camera body.
4) Autofocus is quite unreliable. You really have to watch what it grabs on to.
5) Flash is even harsher than it was on my s5000.
On the bright side, as with other Fuji cameras I've used/owned, the body is sturdy and quite comfortable in the hand, image transfer is pretty fast, and navigating the interface is quite intuitive.
Even for the price, I would never recommend that anyone purchase this camera. There are many available for the same price that are far better (and now, of course, this camera is also outdated).

Question : extra zoom lenses for the Fuji finepix s700 digital camera.?
I was wondering what kind of extra zoom lenses can be purchased for the Fuji s700 digital camera. If I can buy extra lenses, where would I find them. I am from Canada. I will mostly use this camera at a race track 80% of the time it will be night.
Answer:
It has a 10X optical zoom. Fuji doesn't offer any "front lens" add-ons. There may be some "after market" ones offered but they would probably be a waste of money.

Question : Fuji digital camera is very cheap. Do I have any reasons not to buy it?
I just compared it with other brand with the same spec. Fuji is about 40-50% cheaper than other popular brands. Is it worse than others?
Answer:
They actualyl pretty good, Fujifilm camera to digital kinda late compare to other, but fujifilm was like the king in film camera. Fujifilm Digital camera has some of the very best camera sensor and great design. However it lack some friendly mode scene as other offer, but fuji does take very nice picture.

Question : help!my fuji digital camera isn't working and i need it for a trip tomorrow the lense keeps saying focus error?
i am leaving tomorrow and it won't work.
Answer:
I'd buy a disposable or borrow something from a friend. If you don't have that luxury, you could try cleaning the lens. If you do this wrong it can damage the camera. I use the same solution and microfiber cloth that they give you to clean glasses. This may solve your problem, but if not, I'd try to get something else to use. If you do get great pictures from the trip, you may want to check out the HD wireless digital frames from Ceiva. http://snurl.com/98odw
