Not an action camera
This camera has a VERY slow shutter response. It is impossible to take action pictures, but works well for stills. The pictures are good quality. The lag time appears to be 20-30 seconds. Imagine being at a birthday party and having to wait 30 seconds before taking the next shot every time. This camera is a battery hog. Also, HP does not repair their cameras, nor will anyone else touch them. They offer either to 1) give you the same camera refurbished or 2) give you an upgraded version of a similiar camera refurbished. In the case of the Photosmart 945, the camera has been discontinued and they will only offer option #2. My "upgrade" offer was for a $220 refurbished camera.

Easy to Use with an incredible zoom!!!
I LOVE this camera. FIrst of all, the Optical ZOOM on this camera is a wonderful 8X, where most camera''s now-a-days are maxed out at 4x! The pictures were excellent, both in and outdoors. The other review on this camera, the reviewer states there is a lag-time... untrue if you have a faster memory card! I experienced NO lag time, but was stapping pictures back to back, nearly no time in between. I would definately recommend this camera to anyone lookig for a well=built camera... From beginner to Professional, this camera is well worth every penny....and then some. Nice features, also. Easy to use AUTO mode takes the guesswork out of all conditions.

I love this camera!
I recieved this camera 2 years ago as a Christmas gift. Both the camera and the software are exceptionally easy to use. I've even used the software to edit scanned photos. The quality of the pictures is "okay" on low-resolution but wonderful on highest resolution. I suggest buying a larger flash memory card so you can keep the setting on high resolution and still take loads of pictures. After having this camera dropped causing a misalignment that rendered the download cable unusable, and finding that a repair would cost more than the camera [...] I purchased a Sandisk Flash Memory Card Reader [...] and I wouldn't live without one. Just wish I'd known sooner because the flash memory card reader has saved me a ton of money on batteries. I no longer have to keep the camera on to download the photos and it virtually eliminates downloading time. I will be buying flash memory card readers for several people on my christmas list!

Great Starter Camera
This is my first digital camera. I think it is easy to use, andHP packages it with useful software and cable connections. For (this price) you can't find to many cameras that come with 8MB of storage. Its' red eye reduction, auto focus, and zoom functions really help to create some terrific photos. Also HP has provided me with great customer support. They send emails with creative ideas, and have a website for support also.

Not for the impatient photographer
Cons: 1. Incorrect focus at times. 2. Flash doesn't go off causing you to lose a good picture moment. 3. Battery drain is fast. 4. Takes a long time to "actually take a picture" once you press the button. Reason is the auto focus takes a few seconds to work, then you have to press button another step down for the process to complete. Slow and awkward. I don't know if this is a standard for all digital cameras but not a good thing. 5. Subject needs to be still, or a blurry picture will result. Reason number 4 above is why I am currently looking for a new camera. Pros: 1. More times than not, takes acceptable picture (the subject needs to be still due to the autofocus problem). 2. Durable construction. Great for the beginner or first digital camera, but there are cheaper ones at Walgreens and Eckards that will serve the same purpose. Avoid if possible.
I bought the camera a few years ago based on price. Make sure you do the research before you make a blunder like mine.

Watch Out for Ritz Camera
Ritz Camera ripped me off advertising this as a new camera for $99. I ordered 2 because the camera is good (Used one hard for 2 years). Ritz Camera sent me 2 used cameras. Not reconditioned, but used and after the 3rd e-mail admitted, "We would like to bring to your notice that HP - Photosmart 318 Digital Still Camera is a clearance item.
Our Clearance merchandise consists of both new and open-box items. Some items may have minor cosmetic blemishes. We will not be able to guarantee you whether the replacement cameras that we will ship out will be new. The cameras could be new or open box items."
They will not send new cameras nor will the even guarantee new cameras until they get the used ones back. Process could take over a month. I suggest using extreme caution in doing business with Ritz Camera or any of their affilliated companies that include: www.photography.com www.boatersworld.com www.ritzcameraauctions.com www.outerbanksoutfitters.com www.ritzpix.com www.shopatshark.com www.fishingonly.com www.insidesportfishing.com

It was good to me
I got this camera about 4 years ago from Sears as a replacement to a previous model that went out on me. My 318 gave up the ghost a few months ago (LCD wiring shorted out...$195 to replace). I'm someone who loves taking pictures but isn't familiar with any of the photographer's vocabulary. I need a simple camera that will take good, and sometimes great, pictures. That's what this camera will give you. It takes about 5 seconds to write and the digital zoom is a joke of course. I have the fuji f10 6.3 megapixel and there are some pics from the 318 that look better than the Fuji pics. It's certainly a good starter camera.

More than 2 Years Later And...
...I'm still using this camera with no plans to upgrade.
It's a great buy and a great camera. If you're new to digital photography, you won't find this camera difficult to use and will be amazed with its clarity and easy-to-use advanced features. I have had no problem with back-lighting or finding the pictures too dark in quality, as some people have commented upon. Also pleasantly surprising is the sturdiness of the unit. I've been using it since January 2002 and have used it more times than I can count. Being a motorcycle enthusiast, I've packed it into saddle bags, which subjects it to considerable vibration, and it still performs flawlessly; have had amateurs borrow it (sometimes without me even knowing it); let it (unknowingly) sit outside on our patio table one damp night in August; and have packed it in luggage bumping across some of the worst roads in Pennsylvania only to use it and have no problems at all. Like most digital cameras, this one is not easy on batteries-- which is why I purchased two rechargeable sets and take the charger with me when I travel. But I also figure that the cost of AA batteries is considerably easier on the wallet than say a gallon of gasoline or paying to have traditional film developed these days, and continue to use my sweet little HP 318 non-stop. As of now, I have hundreds of photographs permanently recorded, and those memories of family are precious. As an information technology professional, I would not hesitate to recommend this to even the most technologically-challenged person. Hey, even my mom, who is in her 70s, has used it successfully, and to this day, she still can't operate her VCR or upgrade her anti-virus program without help. I think that's 'nuff said about this camera.

Hp photosmart 318
I got this camera for my birthday, first i couldnt get the softwear on the computer and then after i deleted a bunch of my programs and got the softwear i tried for 3 hours and couldnt get the pictures of the camera. it might be easy to take/view pictures with but getting those pictures to the computer is more than i could handle. If you are going to buy this camera you might aswell save your money and go buy a digital camera because the resolution is better, there cheaper, and you can get a digital picture cd that gets the pictures from your camera to your computer as easy as pie.-

Answer:
I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the camera and what kind of pictures you want to take. HP makes pretty decent printers and if you can get a sample shot printed from it prior to purchase depending on your satisfaction with the quality of the print that should be your main decision maker on that scale. Also be aware that if you're going to be say, printing a book a photo printer isn't the best choice because the quality is definitely inferior on that level. As for HP cameras I've never had any personal luck with them. As the previous poster stated HP camera's are 'ok' but for true quality I'd look at another brand. I'm a very big fan of Canons, but Nikons are also solid pieces of machinery, along with the sonys, in terms of reliable picture quality and satisfaction.

Question : What kind of cable do I need to download pictures from my digital camera?
I have a hewlett packard camera. It was given to me. I don't have anything that goes with it. So I don't know what I need to hook it up to the computer. It's a hp photosmart 320.
Answer:
Probably a usb or mini usb. Take it into Radio Shack - they'll hook you up.

Question : what causes many brown lines when I take pictures on my digital camera?
Hewlett Packard digital camera, about 1 1/2 - 2 yrs old. Really a wonderful camera. All of a sudden though every picture I take has darker brown lines running over the complete viewer. Not the battery. Nothing happened to the camera. The lines show up when you view the pictures on your camera and also when you upload them to your computer. Just a constant neatly multi-lined darker streaking over the entire viewer/picture. I haven't printed any pics but, again, lines show up looking at pics on camera and also uploaded to my pc. Any ideas? Doesn't show up under trouble shooting on the HP site and of course I think my warranty is well over. I like the camera so much though (docks to the 4" x 6" HP printer) that I don't want to get a different one if I can fix this one somehow without it costing $3,000,000. Appreciate your time and suggestions/thoughts.
Answer:
Try a camera reset. When a camera does something strange, that's the first place to start.Since the lines show in the files on your computer, it's not the LCD. It might be the card.Take out the card and take a picture using the internal memory. If it works okay, then try formatting the card in the camera. Cleaning the card's contacts is a good idea too, in case there's a little corrosion. If the problem persists you may need a new card.Last option (and least likely), the sensor has developed a fault. It will cost too much to fix.Try typing the model number into Amazon and see if there's a second hand one for sale.

Question : Is the Hewlett Packard Photosmart M437 Digital Camera, 5.0MP a good camera?
Tell me some of the 'great' features of this camera. Like if you can make your pics black and white on the camera, and if it has options like that.
Answer:
Yes , but I prefer the PCWOrld magazine "best buy" ( price x technologie x megapixels ), theHP Photosmart R927 ,8.2 megapixels ( $260.00 ) and HP Photosmart R967 , 10 megapixels. ( $280.00).The Photosmart M437 is good but the difference bettween cameras are just $50 ( if your choice is Deluxe acessories kit ), or basic kit ( $140.00) .The M437 has a range of shooting modes that provide predefined settings for everyday situations. They are optimized for particular types of scenes or shooting situations and include Beach and Snow, -Landscape, Night portrait, and more.-Record Video and Print Video stills.-Built-in and Expandable Memory.-In-camera Editing Features. The other cameras features:-3.0" LCD Display.-Take Creative Control -The Photosmart R927 Digital Camera has a complete range of exposure and scene options, including manual exposure, so you"ll be able to get exactly the image you want. -HP Adaptive LightingThis ground-breaking technology automatically adjusts high contrast photos to reveal the detail that would otherwise be lost in the shadows - ideal when you're shooting into the sun or using flash. HP In-camera Red-eye RemovalRemove red-eye without having to transfer photos to your computer. This unique, easy-to-use tool automatically recognizes red-eye and lets you remove it immediately via your camera's LCD screen. HP In-camera Panorama StitchingYour camera stitches up to 5 photos together to create a single photo for easy printing. And I like HP support.good luck

Question : my digital camera stopped working!?
Its a hp Hewlett Packard photosmart digital camera with 2x digital zoom.I put brand new batteries in it and even a new memory card. What can i do to fix it? I need Help! QUICK!
Answer:
Check that the batteries are inserted correctly. If it's under warranty, send it in for servicing. If it's not, try removing the batteries and leaving them out for a day or two. If it still doesn't work, toss it. Unfortunately, your cheapie HP won't be worth the cost to fix it, just replace it!
