Very Dissapointed!!!

I bought this camera based on the reviews. Now unless it was a manufaturer's defect, this camera was a piece of junk! Simple, but horrible grainy, blurry photos. I would not recommend this camera to anyone looking for a decent point and shoot camera that takes quality photos!

I bought this as a gift for a fam member, they loved it. I was told it takes great pictures, and it works well, u dont evne need a memory card it has a built in memory that holds enough pictures, but ifu take lots of pics then u might want to get a memory card... The price is good. the screen is small but its big enough to see ur image.

Perfect for first time users.

This is the best camera for first time users. Forget those Disney cheapo's spend a few extra bucks and buy this one. My child has learned this whole camera on her own. I would recommend this camera to anyone.

Super camera for beginners.

I was very wary of purchasing a digital camera. All the options, styles, and what the heck are pixels and what do they have to do with pictures, anyway? Well it turns out that the 5 megapixels are great for my small to medium photos. The battery lasts for a while, even longer if you take measures to save the battery. Even though I do not find it hard to figure out how to use technology, I think even my mom could figure out how to use this. The buttons and menus are so easy, and it even explains what the options mean and how they affect your pictures. My only issue is that I didn't know I had to buy a memory card for it, so there you go: Buy a memory card and shoot away!

Customer Review :

Its ok

The camera is ok but the problem is it is not effective in night. One bad feature of this camera is that if it is switched off the last settings are not saved. The default settings are restored and this becomes very irritating at times as one has to keep doing this exercise again and again. My camera lens has anyway spoiled as a small dark spot is seen in the middle of each photo.Well I would not recommend HP cameras to anyone. In my opinion Sony Cybershot is authentic. Nothing can beat Cybershot!

Good Camera

Easy to use camera. Excellent zoom. Much better than expected. Takes crisp, clear, sharp pictures. (Although having a good picture editing program helps too.) Video quality not the best but good for the price. Excellent camera overall.

Love this camera

This is a great digital camera for people who are not very "camera saavy". My husband and I were on vacation with our old digital camera and we found we would spend 5 minutes "teaching" people how to use our camera before they could take a picture for us. This camera is a very simple point and shoot, and the photos are better quality than my older camera (that cost 5 x time this much). It can also take videos which are not the greatest, but better than not having the feature at all. I bought one of these for my parents (who are older and absolutely not a part of the digital generation), and they love it as well.

HP photosmart camera

The main reason I bought this camera for a gift is because it has a viewfinder so you don't have to look through the screen to take the picture. My granddaughter loves the small size and many functions. Its easy to use.

Great Overall Camera

I've had this camera since 2005 and it has done exceptionally well. With the correct lighting, this camera can take pictures that look professional. Ive taken shots that look like they were done in a studio. Most of the pictures taken turn out normal, and some very ugly. One thing that was kind of annoying was when you camcorded and you zoomed in/out, it made a mechanical noise which can be heard in the recording. I lost this camera about 7 months ago and tried looking for the same model. The R817's are pretty hard to find. I now own a Sony T100, which doesnt compare to the HP R817.

Great little camera

This camera was easy to use, and I love being able to take both video and still shots with the same camera. It's hard to see the object you are shooting when you are in the sun, but it took some great pictures.

Not recommended...

I bought this item as a gift, and it ended up becoming mine. I have to say, I am greatly dissatisfied. Here are some main issues I am having with the camera:

1. It is very poorly designed. The look and the feel of the camera are not elegant. Buttons are really ugly, and operating the camera is awkward, and for some functions requires both hands to operate..

2. The camera has been having issues with turning on and off occasionally.

3. The worst, by far, is the picture quality. Colors are just plain terrible. Automatic settings are a disaster of photography. I have used a Canon (2MP) before getting this one (5MP). The Canon was far superior in quality, colors, lighting.. I don't need large files of trash, I am perfectly fine with smaller files with great pictures.

As a result, I am strongly recommending getting a different camera. I have had great experiences with Canon; and seems like Sony and Nikon are doing a good job too. But HP must stop making cameras, and indeed many other devices..

Question : my digital camera stopped working!?
Its a hp Hewlett Packard photosmart digital camera with 2x digital zoom.I put brand new batteries in it and even a new memory card. What can i do to fix it? I need Help! QUICK!

Answer:
Check that the batteries are inserted correctly. If it's under warranty, send it in for servicing. If it's not, try removing the batteries and leaving them out for a day or two. If it still doesn't work, toss it. Unfortunately, your cheapie HP won't be worth the cost to fix it, just replace it!

Question : Is it true that realplayer version 10 can interfere with me sending pictures from my digital camera to my pc?
because i can no longer upload from my kodax easyshare cx7300 or my hewlett packard DSC 220 ? And does anyone know how i can get these working again please? i have tried installing the software again but it isnt having any of it?????? HELP.

Answer:
I haven't had any trouble with realplayer, mediaplayer or any other program and my digital pictures. I'd have a look for a virus first to see if this is upsetting your system - you'll have to reinstall if there are viruses abd they are removed - then i'd look at control panel, and admintration tools to see if your printer and digital camera are enabled.

Answer:
I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the camera and what kind of pictures you want to take. HP makes pretty decent printers and if you can get a sample shot printed from it prior to purchase depending on your satisfaction with the quality of the print that should be your main decision maker on that scale. Also be aware that if you're going to be say, printing a book a photo printer isn't the best choice because the quality is definitely inferior on that level. As for HP cameras I've never had any personal luck with them. As the previous poster stated HP camera's are 'ok' but for true quality I'd look at another brand. I'm a very big fan of Canons, but Nikons are also solid pieces of machinery, along with the sonys, in terms of reliable picture quality and satisfaction.

Question : How can I fix the battery door on my Hewlett Packard digital camera?
I have a Hewlett Packard Photosmart hp 315 digital camera, and the trap door for the batteries is broken. The catch that would keep the door shut seems chipped off, so i have to keep the door shut with my thumb, or the batteries come spilling out. Is there a way to fix this? Howe much will repairs cost me? The camera itself works fine, just the battery door is busted..

Answer:
see if you can buy the battery door part separately. if not then I would suggest some gaffer tape. and just tape it shut.
