Customer Review :
I made a huge mistake when I bought this camera
I had a Pentax Optio 4 MP camera that I LOVED. Unfortunately I was careless and dropped it in water. In searching for a replacement, I saw that this camera was considered to be just as good and it was considerably cheaper. I figured since I was going to be careless with my camerea maybe I should buy the cheaper one, especially if it was supposed to be as good. What a MISTAKE. First off, this camera is a little bit bigger both in depth and width than the Optio. It just doesn't have the same sleekness. Secondly, the picture quality is definitely not as good. Every other picture I take is out of focus. I just want a simple point and shoot camera, one that can focus without having to mess with things...this isn't doing the trick. Now its been doing this weird thing where every picture I take has lines running through it (looks almost like the picture is ribbed). Its VERY annoying. I have such buyers remorse. I really wish I hadn't have tried to save money and had just bought the Optio. There's nothing positive I can say about this camera.

Good and Bad
I have owned an R607 for a few months now. (I purchased one of the limited edition 'Gwen Stefani - Harajuku Lovers' cameras, but that doesn't make much of a difference) I'm very pleased with it but there are a few things that miff me.
For one, even in medium light, sometimes it will take very long to take a picture if you're not using flash. Sometimes you have to hold your hand/arm/body very, very still - usually someone would buy a tripod for this, but it even happens when simply doing a quick shot of a few friends on an outing or something. I practice holding my breath and keeping very still when taking pictures with this camera. (And sometimes it's awkward when someone poses for the camera and they have to stay still for 10-15 or even 20 seconds.)
The audio quality of the video mode is absolutely horrible. All you hear is loud static. It's very hard to capture any sound at all and when you do it's nearly drowned out by the static.
But there are many good things about this camera as well. First of all, the design. Although it has a small screen, it's no big deal. It's tiny enough to take anywhere with you but not fragile.
There are different macro settings which can produce gorgeous pictures with lots of detail. It has 'Image Advice' - a little notification thing that pops up every once in a while to tell you how you might improve a picture.
There are many different modes - sunset, portrait, beach, snow... there's even a panoramic mode that allows you to take large, wide pictures of landscapes or other things like that. It has different colours; B&W and Sepia. You can adjust the hue and sharpness and exposure and all sorts of things. There is red-eye removal right on the menu and an automatic printing function - select the number of prints you want on your camera and hook it up to a special HP printer and you get professional pictures right from your camera.
It has an InstantShare feature as well, which, when set up, allows you to send your pictures off to different people on your contact list immediately when you hook up your camera to your computer.
So, for what it is, it's a spectacular camera - if you can settle with it's drawbacks. A tiny screen isn't much of a deal, right? I thoroughly enjoy using this camera and I'm going to continue using it for a long time to come.

Disappointing software and support
We got this camera as a gift. We have gone round and round with HP tech support and still have not managed to install the camera software into our computer. (We own other brands of digital cameras, all installed without a hitch.)
First of all, the HP software is 170 Mega-bytes large. Talk about bloat-ware! Why does it take such a huge program to manage a camera?
Secondly, HP knows about the software problem. A "fix" is posted on HP.com. After downloading all 170MB of it, it still failed to install. We contacted HP tech support through chat sessions, their suggestions all failed. HP send us an upgraded CD, it still halts on an error during install.
Lest you think we have a weird, off-brand computer, this is an HP Pavilion ZE4125 laptop.
It has been a thoroughly frustrating and disappointing experience.

Excellent camera for it's price and size!
This was my first camera I've owned and I wanted one to take pictures of my friends at school as well as scenery. Due to the camera's compact size I can carry with me everywhere I go. It has many options but I usually keep it on auto and I get great results. The main standout point for me was the HP Adaptive Light Tech. feature. It is made to bring faces out of shadows and details out of backgrounds which makes the picture look 100 times better. I put one of my images of Lake Dixon in the customer images section if you want to see just how good these pictures turn out. If your thinking of buying a camera at a reasonable price, one you can take anywhere, and still take great pictures, this is the camera for you! I love it!

Excelent pictures but small LCD display
I bought this camera more than three years ago and have been using it ever since. I'm not the kind of person that takes pictures all the time, but enjoy taking pictures during trips and family/friends reunions. What decided me to buy the R607 were its low price (very cheap in comparison with similar cameras at the time) and my previous experience with HP products (I own a HP desktop, a HP laptop, a HP PDA...).
Regarding to this camera, it takes excellent pictures. I love the panorama function for taking landscape photos. 4MP is more than enough for a non-professional photographer. It has a lot of functions that I didn't use too often, but many could find useful. It can fit a cheap, very compatible SD memory card to improve its capacity.
Nevertheless, it has some downsides. First of all, the LCD display is quite small. You can get used to it, but since newer cameras come with larger displays, you can be tempted to go that way instead. The software has given me some headaches lately, but I suspect I could fix the bugs reinstalling it from the beginning. And the battery endurance has started to show some shortfall, but I think its normal after 3+ years of continued use.
Overall I'm very satisfied with the camera's performance. Now its time for me to buy a new one, and I'll stick to HP for that.

Capture superior 7-megapixel photos from the slim, elegant HP R837 Photosmart digital camera with 3x internal optical zoom lens. Tag favorite pics for emailing and in-camera slide shows, create panoramic photos, and record video clips with audio. An extra-wide viewing angle, up to 170 degrees, lets you easily see and share your photos with everyone around you. The display is large and bright enough to see both indoors and out, so you don't have to struggle or squint to see the fine details. Use the display to quickly flip through menus, remove red eye, fix pet eye, add slimming, remove blemishes, brighten photos, select creative features from the HP Design Gallery, and more. Get sharper photos with HPs exclusive adaptive lighting feature that automatically brightens darker areas in high-contrast shots, which brings forth details normally lost in shadows. HP's steady anti-shake feature prevents blurry shots caused by camera shakes or moving subjects. Get brighter, more natural-looking photos under low-light conditions, without a flash. Plus, get everything you need to start taking photos right out of the box. A long-lasting, rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides plenty of power, and 32 MB of internal memory allows you to save pics right away. Expand the camera's memory using an optional SD memory card and never miss a shot.
Customer Review :
Great Deal!
I wanted an inexpensive point and shoot. I had a few requirements: No moving lens (seen too many with dirt-jammed mechanisms), Charge from mini-USB (like my cell phone; I have chargers in my cars, at home, at work) good viewfinder, and use large SD cards. This one wins on all counts. I've taken over a thousand pics and 30+ minutes of video now. I was not too sure how the viewfinder screen would work, but it is bright enough to use outside in sunlight. I haven't run out of power yet. I like the way switching from optical to digital zoom works: When you press the button, it zooms (by steps) to max optical zoom, then you need to take your finger off the button and press it again for digital zoom. Since I rarely want to use digital zoom this is a nice feature for me. Get one while you can!

HP Digital Camera
The price was terrific on this item, plus, an extra bonus---free shipping. I'm not qualified at this time to give a complete review, as I've yet to print out pictures or download onto my computer. I plan on doing that soon. I think the image quality is good and I like its image- enhancing features. As a first time owner, I believe digital cameras definitely have their own niche; however, I'm beginning to realize film cameras should never become obsolete; I believe, in the end, they produce better quality pictures. I imagine, too, in the final analysis, price plays a big role. I am happy with the camera and have no regrets about purchasing it. In fact, I'm having a great time filling up my memory card with images of my avacado tree in bloom (pretty good for living in a temperate climate), and my flower and berry gardens as they grow.

Battery problem a big downer
If you're having a problem with the battery life, judging on other reviews, you aren't the only one. This camera does work decently when the batteries are working. It takes video with sound in addition to the pics. If you have a HP computer and printer like me, the software loading pics/video is even easier.
Here's what I have found is a way around the battery problem: Keep 3 sets of rechargable batteries. (I use rayovac IC3 6 total) The moment you put the batteries in the camera, it starts sucking power whether it is on or not! IF I limit my viewing of pics already taken and take pics without the screen on, the batteries will last about a day (40 pics).
Leave the batteries in the camera overnight. By the next morning, the batteries will be dead or close to it. Take the old batteries out, and put new charged ones in while the others charge. The reason why I keep 3 sets is in case I use one up too fast.
Hope that works!

BEGINNERS PERFECT CAMERA
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CAMERA FOR "ANYONE" ANY AGE AS A STARTER CAMERA FOR DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY. I WAS GIVEN A MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE CAMERA (DIGITAL) FOR A GIFT. MY FIRST DIGITAL CAMERA. IT WAS A DISASTER. I COULDN'T EVEN READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL IT WAS SO CONFUSING. I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA AS A TEACHING TOOL FOR MYSELF. IT WAS PEERFECT RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. I HARDLY EVER USE THE "OTHER" CAMERA(IT COST $400).THAT ONE IS LEFT TO OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS.
SO FAR NO PROBLEMS. BATTERY SEEMS TO GO ON FOR EVER. I PAY ATTENTION TO ALL INSTRUCTIONS ON ENERGY SAVING. WORKS PERFECT WITH OR WITHOUT THE DOCK FOR TRANSFERING THE PICTURES. NO END TO RECHARBLE BATTERIES. THE SAME PAIR HAS LASTED FOREVER. THANK YOU......JT

Good for the price/bad warrenty service/eats batteries quick
I got this camera about half a year ago, and it worked quite well. However, unless you use full optical zoom, the edges of the photos are bent outwards. This camera also eats batteries much faster than my Kodak DX6340 did. I had a problem with the software that came with my camera so I have to use the Kodak Easyshera software instead. Also, this camera records audio videos, but you can only hear the audio on the computer. Through all this, this camera is still good if you can get a good price. BUT MY MAIN PROBLEM IS THIS: HP doesn't offer good warrenty service. When after I had this camera for about half a year, it stopped working, still in warrenty. I went onto HP LiveChat support online and since the people there are from India, it was hard to communicate with them, even online. After confusion and a long wait (about two weeks), they finally sent me a camera that was broken which they "fixed into perfect working condition" after saying that they would send me a new one. This camera was still broken when I got it, and they later told me that they only send refurbished ones. I told them this camera was also broken, but they couldn't send me another replacement until they recieved the first broken camera. Even after that and my continued contacting them, they kept on saying "I am sorry. You will get the confermation e-mail shortly." They never sent it and I waited two months without a working camera. Finally, the camera they sent me started working, even though it still doesn't look as good as new. HP couldn't help but leave me without a working camera for so long even though I was under warrenty. One last complaint: When I first got the camera, it was missing the lens cap. IN CONCLUSION: If you want a decient camera for cheep and don't care if you may not have a working camera for a while, this camera is a good buy (if you don't mind the other things I mentioned above also).

Garbage
I bought this camera in September and it managed to last a whole 3 months before it broke. I didn't even drop it or anything. The batteries fell out of it while I had it turned on. The lens is stuck out, and now the camera won't turn on or do anything. I've tried numerous different batteries, and tried troubleshooting, nothing works. I contacted HP customer service but they were not much help. Essentially they told me that all they could offer me was to trade it in and pay around $200 for an upgraded camera. No thanks, HP. I think I will try purchasing a camera from a company that doesn't sell junk next time. Also, even when this garbage was working, it zapped battery life like nothing I have ever seen before. Avoid this garbage.

You get what you pay for
This an acceptable digital camera, not much more. It's a solid value if you find it for less than $75 or so, but I personally would pay more for a Kodak or Olympus with similar specs next time around.
Pros: -Low price -Reliable 3X zoom -Good outdoor capabilities -Reasonably logical navigation menus -Excellent USB connection and PC photo download/edit software
Cons: -One of the worst battery-eaters I've ever used -Poor color saturation: certains blues and greens are way off and can't be corrected -Dumb firmware programming: Forgets all settings when switched off (even with batteries installed) and occasionally bugs out. There is also an error in the brightness modulation. -Pretty poor for closeup work: misinterprets light levels and more often than not can't capitalize on its 2 MP power.
Overall, it's a good value if you pick it up cheap enough, but next time I won't look for an HP camera any more than I would a Kodak printer.

HATE IT
Very sensitive to light. This camera has a mind of its own and you never know if you are going to get the shot. If you are outside it is to bright and you get a white picture, inside it is to dark. I have adjusted it and have seen other reviews that say the same. I am in the market for a new camera and it won't be HP!

Great camera for beginners
I got this camera a year ago. I needed a light-weight, point-and-shoot camera that I can take with me everywhere without bothering to carry a big case, lenses, films and all the other stuff. Having excellent experience with other HP products, I chose a HP and I never regreted that (I already took more than 9,000 (nine thousand) photos since I got it... and is still working! ;) )
The pictures it takes don't even dream of being "pro" ones, but it has gorgeous colour tones (comparing to other cameras in this price range) and does great clear pictures in day-light (it is, after all, a ISO100 equivalent camera, so don't expect it to give you too sharp pictures for dark rooms, although the flash does help a bit. In darker areas, the pictures came out a bit grainy, and if it's really dark, they come out blueish - a thing that can be repaired in PhotoShop and... it's ok, as it's only doing the "blue" thing in very low light). I use the camera with an extra CompactFlash of 128MB (it can hold 138 pictures taken at maximum quality), and I use a pack of Kodak rechargeable batteries of 1800MAH which drain after about 150-170 high quality pictures. If you keep the window open too much of the time, the battery life may go down 20-30 pictures. I would say this is a great battery life for a digi cam! For those who cry that this camera is a battery drainer - try other cameras! :) Anyone who thinks of buying a digital camera should consider buying a recharger with batteries. Downloading: easy (through the HP software - just plug in the USB cord and off you go!), fast(!), and the HP printing software provided with the camera can help a beginner or the rushy person to quickly enhance the brightness and the tones of a photo taken in too lower light. Printing: I finally decided to print a couple of the photos I took woth my HP 612, and went to my photolab (Photo 1-2-3, Toronto) and the 4x6 pictures came out at the SAME quality as the ones on a ISO200 film taken with my SLR Canon EOS. This is great! Anyway, I don't think I would go bigger than 5x7, though it says on the camera that you can go up to 8x10 :) Should I say that my Hp deskjet 3820 gets the best of those pictures too? :) I think HP will thank me for my review here, but it is true. :) If you are a beginner or you just need a camera to carry with you practically everywhere, this is the one: you've got quality, good colours, optical zoom, easy shooting, fast downloading, and all for the lowest price you can find!

Mechanical problems
I have had this camera for 4 years now. The picture quality is wonderful inside or out, i have blown up photos and they are beautiful. My problem is that sometimes the camera lens does not retract when turned off. Then I could not turn it back on. HP service had me return the camera for a second one - same problem, then they exchanged it again. This third camera worked fine for 3 years then the lcd display went awry followed by the familiar error 109 display when the lens will not retract. Now I cannot even turn it on or off. It's good when it works and awful when it doesn't.

| Editorial Review :
HP Photosmart M305 digital camera is a great choice for beginning digital photographers - point-and-shoot simplicity with 3.2 MP resolution for enlargements up to 8 x 10-inches.
Customer Review :
Battery-hog. Shuts off for no apparent reason.
I bought this several years ago at Wal-Mart for about $130.00. It was cheap - then. In its price range, it was the "best" one with a video capture function (although the videos are very grainy). I used it extensively in Paris for a trip to museums, and such. Overall, I was pleased with the pictures ...for a 3.2MP camera, and the 3x optical zoom.
But it eats batteries --any kind I threw at it, even after updating the firmware to v1.07.
Also, it developed a habit of shutting off at I was reviewing/scrolling though pictures on the view-finder. It now shuts off while navigating, and I need to remove the batteries to reset it. VERY frustrating. If it weren't for that - and its appetite for energy - I'd be fine with it.
As of now, I can't trust it to function as my camera.
Rating :
Useless and no support from HP
As has been stated many times in other reviews, this camera simply DOES NOT WORK with batteries. You can put brand new AA batteries in it, and it will maybe take one or two photos. Often, it will only turn on for a few seconds and then abruptly cut off. I have emailed HP repeatedly with this information in addition to providing links to numerous message boards where many have stated the same problem. Their solution was to send me a long email with an update file for the camera. After going through the whole process, I realized my camera already had the suggested update on it. Bottom line is that this camera is garbage and a total waste of money. HP should have offered refunds or coupons off of future purchases in order to rectify this situation. As a result, I will never by another HP product again.

Not the best, not the worst
I'm very new to this, never had a digital anything. I wanted something simple, and this is very simple. I was unaware of the massive battery drain with the flash, and nowhere in the manual does it mention this. It took an email from the seller to set me straight with rechargeable batteries. The pics are fine for me, a novice, and I'm now happy with it. I would reccomend it for newbies, but not for experienced digital photographers.

Camera Review
I love this camera. I have had it for three or four years now, and it works great! As for battery life, every digital camera eats batteries. All you have to do is bit the bullet and buy lithium batteries; they last a thousand times longer than normal batteries. One set of batteries can last me about three months or more. Pictures come out good. The flash can be annoying at times when you need it most; sometimes the camera needs to charge the flash, which can ruin special moments. Be quick if you need to or make sure the lighting is good before you start.

Was told that I would get a e-mail with shipping confirmation. after 5days e-mailed again looking for my shipping information. Was told sorry but I did not ship it yet. The ball was dropped again. another e-mail looking for the shipping information, ball was dropped again. same story...oops. Was told by Amazon that they will intervene after two days after there time frame, and there time frame is 15 days. We did received it with in there time frame but it took two e-mails the second one was not every nice. The camera was placed in a box with no packing just the camera in it's case, not even the camera box. So the camera just bounced around in the box,so who knows how long this camera will last.

Question : Is it true that realplayer version 10 can interfere with me sending pictures from my digital camera to my pc?
because i can no longer upload from my kodax easyshare cx7300 or my hewlett packard DSC 220 ? And does anyone know how i can get these working again please? i have tried installing the software again but it isnt having any of it?????? HELP.
Answer:
I haven't had any trouble with realplayer, mediaplayer or any other program and my digital pictures. I'd have a look for a virus first to see if this is upsetting your system - you'll have to reinstall if there are viruses abd they are removed - then i'd look at control panel, and admintration tools to see if your printer and digital camera are enabled.

Question : what causes many brown lines when I take pictures on my digital camera?
Hewlett Packard digital camera, about 1 1/2 - 2 yrs old. Really a wonderful camera. All of a sudden though every picture I take has darker brown lines running over the complete viewer. Not the battery. Nothing happened to the camera. The lines show up when you view the pictures on your camera and also when you upload them to your computer. Just a constant neatly multi-lined darker streaking over the entire viewer/picture. I haven't printed any pics but, again, lines show up looking at pics on camera and also uploaded to my pc. Any ideas? Doesn't show up under trouble shooting on the HP site and of course I think my warranty is well over. I like the camera so much though (docks to the 4" x 6" HP printer) that I don't want to get a different one if I can fix this one somehow without it costing $3,000,000. Appreciate your time and suggestions/thoughts.
Answer:
Try a camera reset. When a camera does something strange, that's the first place to start.Since the lines show in the files on your computer, it's not the LCD. It might be the card.Take out the card and take a picture using the internal memory. If it works okay, then try formatting the card in the camera. Cleaning the card's contacts is a good idea too, in case there's a little corrosion. If the problem persists you may need a new card.Last option (and least likely), the sensor has developed a fault. It will cost too much to fix.Try typing the model number into Amazon and see if there's a second hand one for sale.

Question : I'm looking for an instruction manuel for a hewlett packard camera. model 618?
have no instruction manuel for a model 618 hp digital camera. I'd like to find the web site where I could order one, the flash is not working. Not having the manuel, I can't find in the menu where the flash might be turned off.
Answer:
good luck. they never made an instruction manual so you'll be looking a long time. HP began outsourcing their camera manual writing at the time the 618 was produced. The first manual was written in Hindi and Farsi but not in English (I assume you're an English speaker? ) By the time HP rectified the problem using their Farsi translation software the camera was already obsolete and defective. There has been a class action lawsuit filed in Hosuton Superior Court over this issue and the Judge is considering placing a moratorium and injunction on future HP products

I'm trying to import photo's from the camera to iPhoto on my macbook. When I connect the camera to the macbook using USB, iPhoto opens automatically but doesn't give me an (obvious) option to import the photo's.According to Hewlett Packard, you do not have to use their software to import photo's.What am I doing wrong? It's driving me crazy! Thanks.
Answer:
Here a few problems I see:1) Do you have the lastest update of iPhoto2) Go do the side of your iPhoto and look for HPE4273) If that doesnt show up, try it out on a friends Mac or Windows4) If all fails get a SD card reader, their like $20 so it snot that big of a deal.

I'm thinking of buying a Hewlett Packard E327 digital camera. Anyone have one?? What do you think??
Answer:
No, but I have the HP M417 and I find it to have a lot of potential. Once I get more familiar with it, I'm sure my photos will be more consistantly excellent. Great color. I'm sure the quality and features run in the family. :-)

Answer:
I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the camera and what kind of pictures you want to take. HP makes pretty decent printers and if you can get a sample shot printed from it prior to purchase depending on your satisfaction with the quality of the print that should be your main decision maker on that scale. Also be aware that if you're going to be say, printing a book a photo printer isn't the best choice because the quality is definitely inferior on that level. As for HP cameras I've never had any personal luck with them. As the previous poster stated HP camera's are 'ok' but for true quality I'd look at another brand. I'm a very big fan of Canons, but Nikons are also solid pieces of machinery, along with the sonys, in terms of reliable picture quality and satisfaction.
