Didn't last a week!
I purchased this camera becuase I needed something for a weekend. The pictures initially were excellent. I accept the simplicity of the camera due to the cheap purchase price. However, the standard AA batteries wore out in an afternoon. There is no rechargeable option. Within a week, the camera was taking blurry photos with strong black vetical lines. I did not drop this camera or mis-treat it in any way. Additional problem, video clips didn't download with a usable sound track.

HP Photosmart E217 Digital Camera
Very nice Camera. Good zoom and display. Easy navagation. Not a very big built in memory. I recomend you buy a memory stick for it. It only holds 16 megs. and 33 photos at the most. Otherwise it is a great camera

Not for the real world - get a Kodak
I recieved this camera for christmas. A month later, I dropped it about a foot onto a carpeted floor and it stopped working. I was told by HP that I could get it replaced if I bought a accidental replacement warranty. The thing is my 6 year old has had a Kodak digital camera for over a year which has been dropped on linoleum, hardwood floors and even concrete - from far more than a foot. Heck, I suspect it went flying through the air before hitting the floor a few times. Yet we've never had any problems with it. My HP gets bumped and now it won't work? I wouldn't even feel comfortable packing the thing in luggage for a trip! A bumpy road might do it in. Also, my brother recently get sand inside his new Kodak after taking it to the beach. Kodak found sand inside the darn thing when they opened it up but they replaced it free of charge for him. No additional warrenty needed. Before it went kaput it worked fine, although I wish it had a view finder. However, I recommend to you and to everyone you know that you buy a Kodak. They're good cameras, they stand behind their products and they sure a heck of a lot more durable than HP's are.

Good camera - Great value
Update: May 2006 - Still have and use the camera frequently. I've also learned that you can take movies and the HP share tools will let you extract still pictures out of the video...very cool. I will agree with the review after mine that the camera doesn't feel sturdy but it fits in your pocket, so there really isn't a need to pack it in luggage. Plus, no matter who made your camera you probably want to shy away from dropping it on the floor.
I didn't buy this camera from Amazon, I got it at an after Thanksgiving sale at Staples, but I am very impressed with it. It's about the least expensive 4MP digital camera I could find and it takes very good pictures.
Downloading photos is a quick process, about a second per 4MP photo, and the HP instant share tools that come with the camera make it easy to edit, e-mail, and print the pictures. There is a video with sound feature on this camera that is about average but it appears to record video for as much as the memory can hold. I currently have a 64MB card in the camera and I can film video for three minutes and I see that as a big positive for this camera.
I would second the previous review that you will need to buy additional memory if you want to shoot more than 20 pictures in 4MP in between downloading them but that is the only thing that keeps me from giving the camera five stars.

OK point and shoot camera, comes up lacking
This is a good camera, very simple to use provided you have a very big budget for batteries and not much interest in zoom features. This camera goes through two AA batteries faster than you can imagine. You have to be so steady in order to take zoomed in shots that the zoom is not very reliable. The digital zoom is simply useless.

Customer Review :
Worst Camera I have ever owned.
It seems like the other two reviewers are happy with the pictures they get from this camera, but I am not. The camera takes really dark pictures no matter what setting you use. The only pictures that seem OK are outside photos in bright sunlight. I had a Kodak before that blew this camera away. I do have to say that I took the camera out of the box charged the battery and expected the auto mode to solve any problems. But I have also tried the setting modes to no avail.

Great while it lasted, but not worth the money
I owned this camera (Photosmart R727) for about 15 months. Took great pictures. Easy to use. Small size made it very convenient. Had all the features I needed and battery life was great. Unfortunately (and for no apparent reason) it experienced a hardware failure which immediately rendered the camera useless (no viewscreen). After discussing with HP, they determined it was unrepairable. So I basically have to buy a new camera. After reading several other reviews, it appears this is not uncommon for this model. I don't have much experience with other brands besides Kodak, but for a reliable long-term camera, I won't buy another HP.

This is an expensive disposable camera
I bought this camera 14 months ago. I have had issues with it locking up which is annoying. Then one day I got a red screen and a 000000018-4489-957-000 error message. After researching, contacting HP and visiting discussion boards, I discovered it was a hardware problem. The long and the short of it is, once the hardware fails, the camera is done! It will cost you around $150+ to fix it and HP thinks you should pay that after spending $250+ for the camera. Of course HP believes that 14 months is a reasonable amount of time to not make them liable for the junk they are manufacturing in China. It is clearly a manufacturing defect! Search the message boards and you will read about the frustrations of others with the hardware failure problem. Don't waste your money on the Photosmart line of products. I am going to stick with the traditional photo equipment manufacturers in the future.

More Bang for your Buck
This camera has the best bang for your buck so to speak. I didn't buy it from Amazon because Best Buy had an awesome deal ($269). I have been researching a digital camera for awhile now. I am a complete novice, not evening owning a standard 35mm film camera. I had a crash course in digitals. I decided on the HP Photosmart R727 after much deliberation and research. I went to the Best Buy store, talked to the (actually) helpful (this time) sales people who were quite knowledgeable in the camera section and walked away with the HP.
This camera has "just about every option that you could want on it" (direct quote from the sales person at Best Buy, as they had just returned from an HP workshop because this camera was released April 2006) for a compact digital. It's small enough to fit in a pocket, purse or just the palm of your hand. The menu is fantastic, very easy to use and understand (remember, I am a novice). It even has helpful tips each time you take a picture to help you take a better picture next time!
I saw on Amazon that Canon cameras are the top seller, as well as at Best Buy. But what turned me off was the fact that not every option is included on their cameras (not to mention the price, it's outrageous and I can get more options on the HP for around $100 less). The main option not included on the Canon's was red-eye reduction. They DO NOT include that IN camera. The HP does. With the Canon you have to do it on your computer. The HP does it automatically as you take the picture. For a novice like me, this is critical. I prefer every helpful option to be included on the camera. Not to mention the complaints I hear from family members on how annoying trying to take out red eye is on their computer.
Another difference I noticed from the Canon series with the HP R727 was that the HP has more digital zoom. The optical zooms (the most important) are the same, but the Canon only has 2x Digital zoom where as the HP has 8x. It just makes a more precise picture when zooming in close. The HP also has just a few more megapixels, just for a kicker.
I really love this HP. I haven't found a flaw in it yet.

I'm thinking of buying a Hewlett Packard E327 digital camera. Anyone have one?? What do you think??
Answer:
No, but I have the HP M417 and I find it to have a lot of potential. Once I get more familiar with it, I'm sure my photos will be more consistantly excellent. Great color. I'm sure the quality and features run in the family. :-)

Question : I'm looking for an instruction manuel for a hewlett packard camera. model 618?
have no instruction manuel for a model 618 hp digital camera. I'd like to find the web site where I could order one, the flash is not working. Not having the manuel, I can't find in the menu where the flash might be turned off.
Answer:
good luck. they never made an instruction manual so you'll be looking a long time. HP began outsourcing their camera manual writing at the time the 618 was produced. The first manual was written in Hindi and Farsi but not in English (I assume you're an English speaker? ) By the time HP rectified the problem using their Farsi translation software the camera was already obsolete and defective. There has been a class action lawsuit filed in Hosuton Superior Court over this issue and the Judge is considering placing a moratorium and injunction on future HP products

Here a few problems I see:1) Do you have the lastest update of iPhoto2) Go do the side of your iPhoto and look for HPE4273) If that doesnt show up, try it out on a friends Mac or Windows4) If all fails get a SD card reader, their like $20 so it snot that big of a deal.

Question : Is it true that realplayer version 10 can interfere with me sending pictures from my digital camera to my pc?
because i can no longer upload from my kodax easyshare cx7300 or my hewlett packard DSC 220 ? And does anyone know how i can get these working again please? i have tried installing the software again but it isnt having any of it?????? HELP.
Answer:
I haven't had any trouble with realplayer, mediaplayer or any other program and my digital pictures. I'd have a look for a virus first to see if this is upsetting your system - you'll have to reinstall if there are viruses abd they are removed - then i'd look at control panel, and admintration tools to see if your printer and digital camera are enabled.

Question : Hewlett Packard Photosmart Mz67 is it a good camera??
i'm looking for a camera to take quality pictures and motion pictures such as horses jumping. is it s good camera to bring amazing quality? if not what is? i was thinking of the Canon PowerShot SX100. how do i turn off the digital zoom on both of the cameras? because i have both camera at my hands to buy. all i want to know is which one has the better picture quaility and best quaility of motion pictures such as horses jumping. i think the Canon PowerShot SX100 sucks at flash pictures, but i can always return it for another one if i don't like it :) so how do i turn the digital zoom off and which one's better
Answer:
SX100 IS is better because it has Av, Tv and M mode. Tv mode will be useful for sport photography. All point and shoot digital cameras have some shutter lag. When you try to shoot the horse jumping, pre-focus (half press the shutter button) on something which the horse is going to jump over first. Press the shutter button all the way when you the horse jumps. You may need to practice a couple of times to get the right timing.
