What a deal!
I was in need of a digital camera for an upcoming trip to New York. I knew I wanted a point and shoot camera that was small and easy to carry. After doing some research and reading many reviews I decided on the Nikon Coolpix S6000. I took the camera for a test run on a short weekend trip. It took amazingly clear and beautiful pictures. My friends who were with me even commented on how impressed they were with the pictures. A quick glance through the manual and your ready to point and shoot. The battery had a long life ( you still will want to purchase an extra battery with a charger )and it has many shooting options. Only has 7X optical zoom but that is plenty for me. Needless to say, I am very happy with this product and would recommed it.

This is a great camera. It can be totaly automatic or manual on the setting. Clear pictures with no noise. I am having trouble with the macro setting. I like taking close up nature pictures. I'll have to keep playing to get it right. Overall , great camera, great quality.

Nikon S6000
This is a great little feature loaded camera. It takes good quality pictures and videos. I have several larger cameras but they are cumbersome to carry around or travel with. This is a perfect size for the pocket, purse, or carry on luggage. I'm very, very pleased with the performance of this camera.

I bought this camera before my 2 week trip to Italy. My previous camera was a 2002 Nikon Coolpix 3500 which I liked but was outdated. This camera is a big improvement. And I used the video feature while on a boat along the Cinque Terre coast! It did a great job and I have a nice memory of that beautiful coast line. The only thing I don't like is that it makes you charge the battery inside of the camera. But I only had to recharge the camera twice in 2 weeks and took almost 400 pictures and videos. So very happy with the battery power.
This camera is much lighter than my old camera and I love that. Very easy to handle and learn how to use; menus are intuitive. New features for me that I really like is the panorama shots and the auto selector. Didn't have these on the 3500.
Overall I love this camera but then I'm not looking for SLR quality. My main use is for travel photos.

Always Canon...First Nikon
Sorry, but this'll be brief. I decided to try a Nikon after many, many years of Canon usage (still have several). This Nikon S6000 seemed like a lot of bang for the buck. My impressions so far:
Pro's: Great pics, small size, easy to use, great macro, automatic scene selection, good focal length
Con's: Power button too small, takes WAY too long to zoom after turning on, zoom is in large jerky steps so it's hard to find that "right" framing, poor battery/SD cover design - have to latch the door all the time (not spring loaded), flash use not always predictable in certain light.
Would I buy it again? Probably not...YMMV

This camera does every thing I had hoped ikt would do and so much much more. I's as if I now own a small compact SLR camera. I cant wait to learn all the features that this camera offers.

Pictures not so cool
Coolpix S70 takes good pictures under normal light without flash. Takes good pictures indoors with dim light without flash. But using flash indoors results in too white (washed) picture. Design, construction and most features are excellent. But I didn't like the feature that uses only Nikon Transfer or ViewNX to transfer pictures to computer. I wish there is a way to transfer photos to PC with just a USB cable and put the pictures in any folder you want. Coolpix limits you to ViewNX only.

Nikon is a necessity to create NIFTY Photos!
My new Coolpix S70 is great and performs flawlessly to my own abilities. My only request would be an instructional video /DVD to achieve all the capabilities included in this tiny package. I initially purchased this camera with thoughts of the S70 allowing my sweetheart, a C6 Quadriplegic to take photos because of the touch screen command interface. Eureka! It works for her. We are both very happy with that capability. Just learning to operate the S70 now, so I will discover more features as I add skills. Great Product. Nikon Glass is the best. The size of camera should lend itself to "Stealh" photo opportunities.

What happened?!
I have been a coolpix fan for years. However, my last two attempts to upgrade from my S51 have been incredibly disappointing. This is a nice little camera with a great interface, but the picture quality is really bad. I had the same experience with the S60. In both cases, I took pictures with the new coolpix and with my S51, and then compared them on the computer to be sure all the photo settings were exactly the same. The difference in photo quality is undeniable. The S70 is getting returned.
Note: For some reason, Amazon is listing different reviews for the different colors of this camera. The version in red has the most reviews. Be sure to check there for more consumer opinions.

Cute, Portable, and Easy to Use!!
What a joy to find a camera that is so small that it fits in your pocket or pocketbook but takes great pictures! It is so easy to connect to charge the battery by simply plugging in a power cord. Comes with a USB connector cord for downloading pictures making it a breeze! I love how easy it is to program this camera - simple instructions and easy to understand icons to remind you of what to do.
I will never go big and bulky again!!!!

yikes!!!!
i purchased this camera in December. After 5 months of using it, here's what I got to say about it. The video quality is horrible on this thing. When you take pictures you see some little dots ( i don't know how to explain it) on the screen. I also have a Casio Exlim and I guarantee the picture and video quality is a thousand times better. This is by far the worst camera I've ever seen.

Utterly disappointed!!!
I didn't buy this camera (Nikon S220) from amazon, I bought it from target. That doesn't change the FACT that this camera is a horrible camera! I returned it!
Yes, it is portable but that is possibly the only thing that would be considered okay with the camera. It takes extremely GRAINY pictures! The auto did more harm than good, and when I would try to set the mode it didn't help either. It took the camera pretty long to focus also. When lighting in a room or outside was even a little bit dark(or only one light was on in the whole room)the picture would come out yellow. Sunsets/nature pictures are out of the question with this camera
The main thing that really got me was how GRAINY the photos were! I have never seen such down right BAD picture quality all around! I had wanted a Nikon camera for along time, not anymore.
I wouldn't recommend this camera for anyone!! I now own a Cannon PowerShot SD780 IS, BEST camera I've seen! Takes AMAZING pictures, portable, easy to use, CHECK IT OUT!

Little Nikon digital camera
About the smallest of the popular no frills, easy to use point and shoot digital camera. Nikon quality throughout. You might like a larger zoom, or a bigger LCD, but for around $100, you cannot complain.

Initial Happiness followed by disappointment
I am brand new to photography, so I wanted an inexpensive, simple, point and shoot camera that gives good quality pictures. I thought I'd found it with the Nikon Coolpix -- my daughter took our first one to Australia and loved it, so I bought one for myself. I am very happy with the picture quality. I found the controls less than intuitive, though, and I don't know how to do all that I want to do with the camera or all that it's capable of doing. I suppose a more experienced photographer would suss it out without thinking, but then, an experienced photographer is probably not buying a starter camera like this.
I am profoundly disappointed that after a mere four months the screen's gone blank. It still takes pictures -- but nothing shows in the screen. I can't see what I'm framing, I can't see the shot after I've taken it, I can't review the shots. The screen is either blank white or sometimes a flickering grayscale. A search of the web has not turned up any information about dead screens that I can find. I really think the lifespan of an inexpensive camera ought to be more than four months.
There is no visible damage to the screen, so no obvious explanation for why the screen doesn't work. The camera has never gotten wet -- and I checked to make certain it was water-resistant before buying it. The worst thing that's ever happened to it was being used to shoot pictures in fog and high humidity (a frequent occurrence while at sea, or ashore).

Shopped forever and made the wrong choice
Well I got caught up in the internet hype of "researching" a digital camera before I bought it. Well....... it didn't work. I purchased this for christmas for myself after reading numerous reviews and it is less than I expected. I think I just got too caught up in saving $10 or $20 and it backfired. I don't plan on buying a camera every year or two and I wanted a simple to use, good quality picture taking camera. Don't get me wrong this is a good camera but the problems are the bad quality of the inside pictures and the lack of a good zoom. Even though it has a zoom it is not very useful and the picture quality is grainy and dark. This goes ditto for the inside pictures. Dark and "shadowy" (if thats a word). I am not happy and I would love to return it but I took long testing it and I am stuck. Hope this helps...

Skip this camera
We bought this camera to replace a less-than half as expensive one that our two-year-old slammed to the ground in a tantrum. In hindsight, I wish we had re-bought that one. The "Auto" setting is guaranteed to produce blurry, yellow pictures in anything other than incandescent or natural light. If you have good lighting, then you get blurry pictures with vivid color. If you tinker with the manual settings, you can get a picture in non-natural lighting that is nice, but if you forget to change it in other settings, I.E. you're chasing your toddler inside and outside, then it wrecks all your other pictures. This completely defeats both the purpose of "auto" and the fact that we elected to spend extra on the camera because we're not professional photographers and don't want to be. If fluorescent bulbs were a concept invented last week then I'd be more forgiving, but come on Nikon, they have been around for a very long time, learn to deal with them already. I'm not sure why the pictures are blurry, but it seems all the fancy steadying tech supposedly in this camera is junk. My 2-year-old $120 camera didn't have any of it and those pictures are much sharper (and properly white-balanced in "auto"). Having spent more on this camera than on any camera prior and not being the sort of folks that just have $250 to burn, we were extremely cautious with it. After getting about 300 pictures on it, the shutter button is permanently stuck in the halfway point. If we really smash the button in all directions, it will eventually take a picture, but the effort in doing so results in even blurrier pictures than normal. I was tempted to hold off on the review until I found out how Nikon intends to treat us in the warranty department, but I'm assuming I'll at least have to pay shipping charges, and I'm not certain I want to spend even more money risking the possibility of bad customer service on a product I'm already experiencing serious buyer's remorse over. The battery pack is bittersweet. It lasts a pretty long time compared to the regular AAs from our last camera, but you can pick up AAs anywhere and they're comparatively cheap. For this, you either need to shell out a not insignificant chunk of change on a spare battery or take no pictures while the one you've got charges up. Overall, I think I'd rather have AAs than a battery pack, but I imagine that's personal preference. It is compact. However, so are most of the rocks my daughter picks up, and those are equally functional to this camera, less frustrating to operate, and free.
Overall, buying this is an expensive way to get a cheap camera. I'm hoping I can find the box to the camera my daughter broke so we can go back to that brand.

Poor picture quality
I was so excited to have a nice camera that would fit in my purse. I have a really great larger one but hardly ever take it because I don't like hauling it around. So Nikon has a great reputation, right? With 12.2 mp this camera should produce awesome pictures...but it doesn't! It has some very impressive pre-sets, the pics all looked blurry and yellow. So I went back to basics and just used the auto setting...still yellow and a lot are still blurry. I didn't spend enough time with it when I first got it and by the time I discovered I hated it, I was past my 30 day return time. I'm stuck with it so I hope I can figure out how to make it work better for me.

Great camera when new, deteriorates with time
When I first got this camera is was great. It had really fast load time and it was very easy to use. But after having it for about 6 months the zoom button has started to stick, making it difficult to zoom in to a point where you want to take the picture. If I had known this in the past, I would not have bought the camera.
Rating :
Bulky and poorly constructed
Whilst this camera takes fairly nice photos, it's very slow to focus. I've missed a few key photos while waiting for the camera to be ready to shoot.
Additionally, I noticed a few months after I got it that the small screws on both sides of the camera had fallen out. One day the side panel just fell off. I have yet to be able to get this fixed but I imagine that a Nikon store should be able to help.
For me, the camera is too bulky to carry around in a small purse but it takes good pictures.
My 2 cents

Nikon COOLPIX S550 10MP Black Digital Camera
Customer Review :
Don't Drop It!
I dropped this camera only once, and it fell only about three feet (it was in my hand and my arm was down). Even though it was only two months old at the time, that fall was enough to dent the lens. I brought it in to an authorized Nikon repair center to be repaired and the estimate was $209.00, more than what it would cost to buy a brand new one! Needless to say, I didn't pay for the repair, and I won't be buying a replacement. This whole experiences has left me extremely disappointed with the quality of Nikon cameras. I know it was my fault that I dropped it, but I would expect that a camera such as this could at least withstand one small fall without requiring repairs this expensive! One three foot fall = $209.00!

Nifty Nikon
This is one nifty little camera. Since I'm not a techie, but I do compose my pictures pretty well, I have an appreciation and desire for more than a drugstore camera.
The Nikon S550 takes a crisp picture. When compared with the shots of someone using a professional camera, this one held its own--even taking portrait-style close-ups. One of the features I find useful is that even if your hand moves, the camera has the ability to stabilize the image.
I used my camera extensively while shopping for and remodeling our home. I was able to capture the items, their exact colors, and was so on-target that, our decorator was amazed at the accuracy. Even the individual colors of the wool and silk in oriental rugs were quite visible.
When taking photos of our belongings (we live in a hurricane-prone area)both the short and long-range pictures were of very good quality.
PROS: * Ease-of-Use * Thin * Lightweight * Accurate color * Excellent even at long-distance shots * Superb value for the price * Can take videos * Recharges quickly
CONS: * Does not have a number indicator to quickly find a previously taken picture
Even my dad, who is accustomed to expensive cameras with assorted lenses is impressed with this little camera. He intends to buy one, too!

Great until it broke
I've had this camera for slightly over one year, and it worked perfectly up until this past week. The flash doesn't work, and now the camera isn't being recognized on my computer, so I can't upload photos. I thought Nikon was a good brand, but apparently the camera breaks as soon as your warranty expires. Two thumbs down.

Great Full-featured camera
Does everything you want and it does it well. Nice photo camera and does a decent video with sound also. Long lasting rechargeable battery and EZ to use. It makes a Panarama shot, too! Also records AUDIO ONLY. Get at least a 1 GIG card with it so you have plenty of room for your pics and videos. Small enough to carry around in your purse, unless you're a man and you might not be in the habit of walking around with a purse. But, if you ARE a MAN if you want to carry a purse; that's your own business; not mine. the point is: IT'S A GREAT CAMERA! I got the pink one. NIKON calls it "Plum". It's really more like PINK. Nobody will steal a man's PINK Camera!

Questions & Answers
Question : Does anyone own a Nikon digital camera that they love or hate?
If you own a Nikon digital camera I would really like to know your thoughts on it. Just be sure to tell me what kind it is and what you like and don't like about it. I'm looking to buy a Nikon digital camera soon and I wanted some outside views on which ones are the best. Price isn't that important to me as long as the quality is worth it. I don't want to pay $700+ only to find out that I might as well have gotten a disposable camera from walmart.Thank You!
Answer:
I own a Nikon D50,and am happy with it. The only frustrating thing is that I don't yet have the skills to fully utilize its capabilities. HOWEVER-there is more variation in pix quality due to the skill of the user than in the cameras. Sort of like making love.

Question : What is the BEST Canon or Nikon digital camera for MOVIE's w/SOUND and in LONG LENGTHS?
Hey there! I am looking for a Canon or Nikon digital camera that records long, good quality movies with sound. Can you recommend?
Answer:
I would get the Canon Powershot TX1. Most compact digital cameras shoot video at 640 x 480 but this one shoots at 1280 x 720. That's a huge difference. The sound is in CD quality. It can shoot nonstop up to 4GB (which is only 13 minutes as the highest setting).

Question : Will the lens of an old nikon camera work on one of the new digital cameras?
I have a nikon 8008s camera with three lens for it. If I buy a new nikon digital camera will these lens work on the new camera?
Answer:
Lenses for an F801/8008 would all be Ai or AF/AF-D. They would almost certainly NOT be AF-I/AF-S (the F801/8008 can't operate the autofocus motor in AF-I/AF-S lenses). They would mount on any Nikon digital body. The two gotchas would be:1. Ai lenses (except for the fairly uncommon Ai-P lenses which are actually AF-D lenses without autofocus) would get no metering on anything except the D1/2/3 or D200/300/700.2. AF/AF-D lenses would not autofocus on a D40/D40x/D60Another important thing to note: Except on a D3/D700 all your film lenses will behave like longer lenses on digital bodies, due to the 1.5x crop factor of the smaller sensor.

Question : Looking fo a good lens for good price for my Nikon digital camera?
this is my camera i needa better lens that zooms in ad out more than the 18-55 lens!!Megapixels: 6.1 Megapixels Optical Zoom: 3 X Lens System Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm lens LCD Screen Size: 2.5 in Recording Method SDHC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital (SD) Card Camera Type Digital camera - SLR
Answer:
I suggest you stick with Nikon lenses. The original manufacturers lenses are almost always better. A very popular choice right now is the Nikkor 18-200mm zoom. I provided a link below. It is not the cheapest lens out there but it has a great zoom range. For most people this is the only lens they will ever need.http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/408518-USA/Nikon_2159_18_200mm_f_3_5_5_6G_ED_IF_AF_S.html

Question : Will optional lenses 70-300 etc from a 35 mm nikon 4004 work if i buy a nikon digital camera body?
I have mulitiple lenses from my old 35mm nikon 4004 and I want to use them with a digital camera but I dont know if it can be done...any idea?
Answer:
All of the current Nikon DSLRs except the D40, D40x, D60 are fully compatible (meter and auto-focus) with AF, AF-D lenses from a N4004 including the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G lens. The D40, D40x, D60 cameras meter but do not auto-focus AF and AF-D lenses.

Question : Can I use a Nikon 35mm camera lens with any Nikon Digital Camera?
I've got a lot of great Nikon lenses but want to up grade to a digital camera. Can I get any Nikon Digital Camera to use with these lenses? My understanding is that most F-mount lenses are compatible with newer models.
Answer:
yes and no99% of all nikon 35mm lenses will fit all the current Nikon DSLRs... HOWEVER, certain things may not work on the camera when you use an older lenses metering is sometimes lost on the DSLR if you don't use a Nikon lens that has the electronics in the lens... or if you buy a D40, D40x, D60 you would not be able to use an older Nikon auto focus lens and have the auto focus work unless it was one of the AF lenses with the built in motor. The oldest AF lenses required a motor drive in the camera body to focus the lens, Nikon left that motor out of the low end cheaper DSLRs.

Question : Do I need a special flash for my Nikon Digital Camera?
I need a larger flash for my Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital Camera with a hot shoe, and would love to be able to use the trusty Vivitar Thrysistor 283 that worked so well with my old SLR, but the Nikon manual warns that flashes not specifically made for Nikon Digital Cameras may damage the camera through some kind of electronic feedback. Are they just trying to sell me a $300 flash unit, or is this a valid concern?
Answer:
Yup, it is possible for an old flash to fry a camera due to the trigger voltages. You can check this site for more info on that http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html. Cross reference your flash against the table there. In any case, using an older flash would probably mean a loss of i-ttl (for nikon) or e-ttl (for canon). You would need to use auto/manual flash then. In addition, the camera may also act funny (e.g. my old metz on my canon 20D will always give me a 1/200 f5.6 on program mode. I have to use it in manual mode instead.

Question : Will the lenses and flash bulbs of an older Nikon camera be compatable with the newer digital Nikon cameras?
A family member of mine purchased an older semi-professional Nikon camera in the early '90s, and he was wondering if his flash bulb and lenses, also bought new around the same time, would be compatible with a new digital Nikon camera.Advance thanks for any help provided : )
Answer:
I am guessing you mean speedlight or flash and not flashbulb. There are probably only a small percentage of the folks on here that have actually ever used a flash bulb. But I know where you are comming from ~lol~ It depends on the speedlight and lens but probably so . Any speelight with a low enough sync voltage like the SB-25 can be used I will link a chart so you can check the flash. If you do not know the sync voltage or if the chart says its above 12 V for Nikon ( 6 volt for Canon) get a wein hot shoe to hot shoe safe sync slave and you can use any speedliht with that between the speedlight and the cameraHere is the chart http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.htmlNow as to lenses any lens that is AI, AF, AFd, AFs or AFi can be used On some cameras pre AI lenses can also be used ( D40/D60) Others they cannot mount on unless they have been AI converted Yours are probably AF or AFd if they were made in the 90s as they started making them in 1986 and they are still made today, AI lenses will never autofocus they were manual focuse cameras. In addition only AFs and AFi lenses will autofocus on the D40/D40x or D60AI lenses will not meter on D100, D90, D80, D79, D60,D50 or D40. They will not matrix meter on the D1 though they will center weight and spot meter, they meter on all other Nikon dSLRI routinely use lenses from the 70s on my cameras ( D40 and D300) . Feel free to email me with specifics on the camera, lens and spedlight you have gotten. BTW That old film SLR still probably takes great pictures also so keep it around in case you get a yearning to shoot film oneday

Question : If i buy the SB-800 for my Nikon digital camera do i need an umbrella or softbox also?
To take professional pictures with good lighting. Also, which Nikon model digital camera would you recommend?? For portraits/indoor outdoor photography
Answer:
I picked up a LightSphere from Gary Fong for my SB-600, it gives a nice diffused light source. I shoot a fair amount of portraits and like my D90 for that. Good image quality that won't break the bank. For even better the D300s is a higher build quality.

Question : If I'm looking for a very professional Nikon digital camera, what would be a recommendation?
If I'm looking for a very professional digital camera, probably not SLR, what would be a recommendation? I need something with a very GOOD macro setting. I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a Nikon, and I'm also curious about CoolPix. This camera I plan on using for artistic photos, so I'm searching for really nice quality - not a little rectangular box used to take pictures of the family BBQ, you know? hahaha. thanks for taking the time to read this.
