SLOW

If you plan on taking pictures of things that move, (especially children) don't buy this camera. When you push on the shutter button, there is a delay before it takes the picture. And if you're using the flash, there is a LONG delay before it's ready for you to take another picture. Maybe I was just spoiled by my speedy, trusty old Canon, but I'm tired of missing the moments I want to capture. Here's how it usually goes: My toddler will smile and by the time the camera finally takes the picture, she turns her head and THAT is the image I'm stuck with. The picture quality is good, but I'm tired of getting the side of her face, of the dog's face, etc. I'm putting it on eBay.

Great for what it is

Pro: Excellent camera for the price. Beats Walmart by $20!
Was able to train non-photographer on various settings quickly.
Excellent vibration reduction and picture quality.
Works even with Class 2 cards (though I would recommend Class 4 or 6)
2GB cards are more than adequate! 505 estimated 12MP (4000ppi) photos per card.

Cons: Manual settings disable too many other features.
Like any point-and-shoot, 12MP isn't really the same as on a larger CCD.
Lack of a regular viewfinder. LCDs are what drag the battery down most.
Shutter button and tele-WA switch are loose and "rock around."
No real constant showing of remaining battery, although it lasts quite well.

This camera arrived with a totally DOA charger. The light on the charger doesn't even come on.
The LCD did not have the typical static-plastic cover, but did have a fingerprint. Makes you wonder if these are seconds or returns.

Pretty rare for a Nikon product. I guess that's the value of local purchase since returning to Amazon or Nikon is a time delay I don't have right now--and the shipping cost. The camera and cable charge fine through a computer USB port.

Fortunately, I bought the EH-63 external charger also. This is highly recommended anyway. It gives you the opportunity to buy and charge a spare to keep with you.

Not what I expected based on reviews

I greatly anticipated getting this camera based on the reviews I read. I bought it for a weekend trip with a friend so I didn't have to carry around my Nikon DSLR. Unfortunately, I was disppointed in the quality of the pictures, and sadly, can't get those moments back. Many of the pictures came out pixilated, blurry and the color was not very good. I am not an amateur photographer, so this click & shoot camera should have been a cinch. I am a long-time fan of Nikon products, but I would not purchase this model again.

Seems to be OK

Haven't used this camera too much, but it seems OK and easy to use. Compact, attractive and well made. Unfortunately, this camera did not come with a memory card, seems to me one should have been included - just another extra expense.

Cool Camera

The camera is conveniently small and portable. It takes great pictures. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a simple point and shoot camera.

A litle disappointed.

I bought this because I have another nikon that I love! I loved the size and convenience. It takes really nice and clear pictures but still lacked on some areas. I hate the zoom and the digital zoom is terrible! After I got it, I read a few reviews that said they hated the camera because of the lens problems and I no more read that and used my camera for the second time and got a lens error. Not once but twice in the second time I used the camera. Sadly I wouldn't recconmend this to anyone. Nice price for a 12 megapixel but I think they cut corners on the rest of the quality.

Nice Camera

Light weight, easy to carry camera. Takes great pictures in just about any light.

S570 not a step forward

Taking Office Depot up on their recent "Trade-In and Trade-Up" promotion, I traded in my almost 2 year old 8 mp Nikon L18. The former camera had the distinction of taking good photographs but not ever being recognized by my computer using the input cord; I would have to transfer pics by swapping the memory card in another brand of camera I owned (I also own a Nikon D40 SLR and this is not a problem so I don't believe that this is a problem unique to the Nikon brand).
Anyways, in regards to the S570, this is a very nicely packaged and very small (and light) sophisticated point-and-shoot digital camera. Like many of the new slim generation of digitals, this camera requires you to charge up it's lithium battery to get the camera to operate. Charging time is excessively long taking several hours.
Strangely, the LCD viewing area is 2.7" which might be the new standard but is smaller than the 3" area of the L series Nikon has discontinued.
Picture quality is not a visible improvement over either of my 8 mp cameras and certainly not as good as the 6 mp (but larger sensor area) D40. Facial recognition is hit-or-miss, that is, sometimes it works and others not at all.
Most disappointing, however is the fact that this camera was only able to transfer photographs the very first time it was attached (via cord) to my computer. Subsequent attempts did not succeed and I was forced to transfer the memory card to another camera (just like the previous Nikon L18!). Apparently, the connection at the camera has been a problem for other owners of this model.
I am no longer impressed with the Nikon line of small pocket digital cameras and will most likely exchange the 5570 for a Sony, Kodak or Canon model.

It meets NIKONS REPUTATION for the price and quality

I am very pleased with this camera so far. It seems to have the 2 qualities that make Nikon different than other cameras.

1. It seems to have a fairly good quality glass lens. (keep in mind this is only a $129 camera)

2. It has a very good logical system for taking pictures that is very easy to learn and has all its features arranged very well. Nikon has always been superior in its design of features for ease of use and only putting in logical features for taking the best pictures. Many other cameras over the years would put in features as selling points but many had little to do with taking good pictures. When I got this camera it took me about 20 minutes to find every feature without looking at any of the documents that came with it. Better yet, everything was arranged logically and easy to find. This is what sold me on Nikon 30 years ago when I bought my first Nikon SLR. Mind you, this is an inexpensive pocket camera but it has more features than I expected.

For those that give it a low rating for picture quality I suggest that they spend some time reading the user manual. Practice using the 17 preset scenes by pressing the green scene button. Also, small pocket cameras are more sensitive to steady in low light or zoomed. If you are in low light or zoomed in you might want to use a mono-pod or rest against something firm. Better yet, change the setting. If your camera was defective when you got it or soon after this is not the place to take out your frustration. Send it back and get a working one before you write your review, it's guaranteed. Reviews are for working items.

I give it high marks for a pocket camera in its price range. I especially like the wide angle and the zooming range. 28MM-140MM gives you a lot of range.

A Step Backwards

I bought this camera to replace my beloved Nikon Coolpix S220 which was drowned when my water bottle leaked all over my purse. I was sad to see it go, but I thought surely the latest Coolpix based on the popular S220 model would be just as terrific, if not more. I was...wrong. First let me point out that I realize these are "cheap" point and shoot cameras, and we certainly can't expect astounding performance. But notice... is there a single "Best Point and Shoot cameras of 2010" guide that so much as mentions the S3000? I haven't found one. This camera feels... cheap. The buttons feel flimsy, it's noisy, it has a lousy reaction time, and many photos I've taken that have no business being blurry are, of course, blurry. My computer also doesn't recognize the camera, even after installing Nikon Transfer. A quick look online will tell you other people have also had this problem. The S220 was a solid, great performance camera for a point and shoot. The S3000 had big shoes to fill and came up short. I never thought I'd be disappointed in a Nikon product, but there it is.

Great Camera.

I really enjoy all the settings on the camera and how well they work. I'm able to zoom over 100 feet and capture everything with this wide lens. It's a good camera for someone who does or doesn't know what they're doing.

Don't Judge a Camera by Its Cover

The Nikon Coolpix S3000 is aesthetically pleasing and lightweight. It is 1/3 the girth of my other cameras. One of my qualms is that the image capture button wobbles a lot. It also has the worst picture quality of any camera I have seen. Every picture came out blurry and unreadable. I would not recommend this camera for anyone.

Not worthy !

O.K. so I have owned a few Canon Camera's. Bought this Nikon thinking it would be a good unit.

NOT !!

Very poor quality pics, no eye-piece and the screen is to dull to see in full sun. I returned and went back to Canon.
If you are used to Canon quality, this Cam will disapoint.

Garbage imo.

Nikon Coolpix

What a GREAT camera. I had been cursed with the kodak easy share (older model) for years now and no matter what, I could only take about 10 pics before the battery died. I love the Nikon its small- light weight and perfect fit for me! Im not a professional photographer but I can take some great pics with this camera. The options that the menue gives you for photos is amazing! I would highley recomend this camera above kodak! They made everything VERY easy for inital set up also! Once I opend the package, did the camera set up, I was ready to take pictures within 3 minutes (once I charged the battery fully which only took about 30 minutes). I bought this camera because I was going on vacation and was tired of going places with an unreliable heavy camera and now feel so lucky to have this one! Ive never taken so many pictures before that its like a whole new world for me. This camera will also give you and option for "blink protection", "auto correct", and so MANY other options. Great camera, great price compaired to Walmart, Target, and other store/web-sites. Also Amazon was the only place I could get this cool green color. Stores werent carrying this color yet (only the purple, black, and some of them had the orange). One last thing I want to mention is the speed of taking the pictures. What I was used to was press the button wait about3-4 seconds then wait about 8 more seconds before you could shoot your next one-not so with the Nikon. I can practically take pic after pic with it - its great!

Love this Nikon Coolpix S3000

Love the camera; easy to use and small enough to keep in my purse. Love the green color.

A Steal!

I asked a camera expert to tell me the best brand and he directed me to Nikon; He said this line of cameras has face-detection technology, incredible megapixel, advanced zoom, and many more features. You can even hook it up to the computer to save those precious photos, without being worried that the images will be distorted. It is a steal for the price, and it would make a great gift for someone who wants to be a photographer.

Awesome Camera

This is a compact camera.
no need to worry about recharable batteries!! it's a charage battery included. Just plug the camera up to the wall. Cute look, and takes great pictures! I bought two of them. One for myself, and one for my daughter. She was very excited about her new camera! I would recoment this camera to a friend. It's very easy to use.

Since I live on a barrier island, my walks are always made beautiful by the flora and fauna found there. Finally after wanting one for 2 yrs. I purchased a camera that I can slip in my pocket and pull out to shoot something that takes my breath away. Just sorry I didn't do it sooner. If you're looking for a "pocket" camera that's easy to use, this one will fit your needs perfectly.

Nikon coolpix S3000

I liked my Nikon Coolpix 2100, so when it died(the on/off/shutter/telephoto quit working) I bought the CoolpixS3000. So far so good, it does a lot of things, reading the manual....trying it out. Happy so far!

Excellent camera for the price !!!!

Small sleek and nice camera, response time is great for the price of camera and nikon has improved a lot on the photo quality.

The only problem i did not like was it did not have a wall charger for the battery, the camera has to be connected to the charger to charge which i did not like, otherwise and overall a very nice point and shoot camera.....

Great, but !

The Nikon S3000 arrived in quick time and in good shape. The only problem I have with Nikon is NO MANUAL. es, there is one on line but that's amess and too much to print out. I asked Nikon for a printed copy $9.00 but they said "OUT OF PRINT"

I am from the old school and like to have a manual.

Rating :

I'm very impressed!!!

I'm a photographer from way back, old school, always a proponent of film cameras. This is my first digital, bought it specifically so I can shoot images and upload to sell on eBay.

I'm a believer. This camera is very easy to use, easy to set up, and takes really good photos. I picked it specifically because it was 12MP, for better quality images, and Nikon, because their optics have always been so good.

It's user friendly, intuitive controls. I barely looked at the instruction booklet. And, a snap to upload images to my computer.

Pictures are really sharp, almost look 3 dimensional. I'm having a lot of fun just playing around with it.

Was a great value for the price, too.

If you're looking for a quality point and shoot digital, you can't go wrong with this one.

Question : Will optional lenses 70-300 etc from a 35 mm nikon 4004 work if i buy a nikon digital camera body?
I have mulitiple lenses from my old 35mm nikon 4004 and I want to use them with a digital camera but I dont know if it can be done...any idea?

Answer:
All of the current Nikon DSLRs except the D40, D40x, D60 are fully compatible (meter and auto-focus) with AF, AF-D lenses from a N4004 including the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G lens. The D40, D40x, D60 cameras meter but do not auto-focus AF and AF-D lenses.

Question : can a nikon slr 35mm lens be used on a nikon digital camera?
i have a nikon n55 film slr and i'm looking to buy a nikon d70 or d80. i have two lenses, one of which is a 70-200mm (af). both the n55 and d70/80 use a 'g' lens mount but i'm wondering if there are disadvantages to using a film lens on a digital camera. thanks in advance!

Answer:
Absolutely .. that is what is so good about Nikon's .. even the old manual focus lenses from 1959 can be used with a little $15 AI modification ... any AI lens forward can be used. I use all my old Nikkor lenses on my D100 and D200 DSLR's.Since your N55 is a auto-focus camera, all of its lenses will work on the D70 or D80 DSLRThere are NO disadvantages using 35mm Nikon "film" lenses on a DSLR

Question : Looking fo a good lens for good price for my Nikon digital camera?
this is my camera i needa better lens that zooms in ad out more than the 18-55 lens!!Megapixels: 6.1 Megapixels Optical Zoom: 3 X Lens System Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm lens LCD Screen Size: 2.5 in Recording Method SDHC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital (SD) Card Camera Type Digital camera - SLR

Answer:
I suggest you stick with Nikon lenses. The original manufacturers lenses are almost always better. A very popular choice right now is the Nikkor 18-200mm zoom. I provided a link below. It is not the cheapest lens out there but it has a great zoom range. For most people this is the only lens they will ever need.http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/408518-USA/Nikon_2159_18_200mm_f_3_5_5_6G_ED_IF_AF_S.html

Question : Can I use a Nikon 35mm camera lens with any Nikon Digital Camera?
I've got a lot of great Nikon lenses but want to up grade to a digital camera. Can I get any Nikon Digital Camera to use with these lenses? My understanding is that most F-mount lenses are compatible with newer models.

Answer:
yes and no99% of all nikon 35mm lenses will fit all the current Nikon DSLRs... HOWEVER, certain things may not work on the camera when you use an older lenses metering is sometimes lost on the DSLR if you don't use a Nikon lens that has the electronics in the lens... or if you buy a D40, D40x, D60 you would not be able to use an older Nikon auto focus lens and have the auto focus work unless it was one of the AF lenses with the built in motor. The oldest AF lenses required a motor drive in the camera body to focus the lens, Nikon left that motor out of the low end cheaper DSLRs.

Question : Does anyone own a Nikon digital camera that they love or hate?
If you own a Nikon digital camera I would really like to know your thoughts on it. Just be sure to tell me what kind it is and what you like and don't like about it. I'm looking to buy a Nikon digital camera soon and I wanted some outside views on which ones are the best. Price isn't that important to me as long as the quality is worth it. I don't want to pay $700+ only to find out that I might as well have gotten a disposable camera from walmart.Thank You!

Answer:
I own a Nikon D50,and am happy with it. The only frustrating thing is that I don't yet have the skills to fully utilize its capabilities. HOWEVER-there is more variation in pix quality due to the skill of the user than in the cameras. Sort of like making love.

Question : what is the best nikon digital camera?
i am looking for a new digital camera and i'm am not sure what is best for me. i shake really bad, so i need the image stabilization thing. and i am looking for a digital camera, not one of the big photography ones. something that takes sharp, good day and night pictures would be really nice. but the big thing is something that takes reaaaaaaaally sharp pictures that are not grainy. i know nikon is good, cause my mom has one of the photography cameras and it is amaaaaaaaazing. but too much and too big for me. any helppp?ps. i am looking for something new, like off their website.

Answer:
actually the "big photography" ones are not really big, Nikon has few entry level DSLRs which are really small, D40/40x, and D60, and they have VR (vibration reduction) on the lens.by the way, shake may due to how you hold your camera, keep your arms/elbow right next to your body will help.

Question : Can you use Nikon lenses for film cameras on your digital camera?
I was told that Nikon digital camera lenses are interchangeable with Nikon film camera lenses...the difference being that lenses made for the film cameras cost significantly less than those made for the digital cameras. Does anyone know if you this is true?

Question : Is there a certain printer for the nikon digital camera?
i just bought a nikon s70 touch screen digital camera and i want to buy a printer for it, is there a specific printer i need for it and if so whats it called?

Answer:
No there is not, but I think if you want a printer, that you should check out the Epson printers. They have a selection of printers and are very well respected for quality. Also, you may want to investigate photo lab options. Below are 2 links to help you research, one is to Epson's website and the other to Mpix an online lab that offers some possibilities.Hope this helps.Mark
