Nikon COOLPIX S550 10MP Plum Digital Camera

Customer Review :

Our second Nikon S550. Great camera, Great service!!!!!

Had our original Nikon S550 for three years....Dropped on cement, dropped to the bottom of a lake.... Kept working like a workhorse..... So when the last accident claimed it, bought the new model..... We prefer the older simpler and clearly better S550..... Found one on Amazon.... Hope there are always a few around!!!!! Oh... Outstanding service from Amazon allowed us to take it on our vacation...

Nifty Nikon

This is one nifty little camera. Since I'm not a techie, but I do compose my pictures pretty well, I have an appreciation and desire for more than a drugstore camera.

The Nikon S550 takes a crisp picture. When compared with the shots of someone using a professional camera, this one held its own--even taking portrait-style close-ups. One of the features I find useful is that even if your hand moves, the camera has the ability to stabilize the image.

I used my camera extensively while shopping for and remodeling our home. I was able to capture the items, their exact colors, and was so on-target that, our decorator was amazed at the accuracy. Even the individual colors of the wool and silk in oriental rugs were quite visible.

When taking photos of our belongings (we live in a hurricane-prone area)both the short and long-range pictures were of very good quality.

PROS:
* Ease-of-Use
* Thin
* Lightweight
* Accurate color
* Excellent even at long-distance shots
* Superb value for the price
* Can take videos
* Recharges quickly

CONS:
* Does not have a number indicator to quickly find a previously taken picture

Even my dad, who is accustomed to expensive cameras with assorted lenses is impressed with this little camera. He intends to buy one, too!

coolpix is cool

This camera, Coolpix, was used but no real damage. It is a great size for travel and that is why I bought it. Took it to Isreal and took many good pictures. Was a real good buy.

Great Full-featured camera

Does everything you want and it does it well. Nice photo camera and does a decent video with sound also. Long lasting rechargeable battery and EZ to use.
It makes a Panarama shot, too! Also records AUDIO ONLY.
Get at least a 1 GIG card with it so you have plenty of room for your pics and videos.
Small enough to carry around in your purse, unless you're a man and you might not be in the habit of walking around with a purse. But, if you ARE a MAN if you want to carry a purse; that's your own business; not mine. the point is: IT'S A GREAT CAMERA!
I got the pink one. NIKON calls it "Plum". It's really more like PINK. Nobody will steal a man's PINK Camera!

Great Camera

We have had this camera since 2005. It has been a great little camera for our family. Lots of nifty settings, video. This camera is also sturdy. It has been neglected on so many family vacations, left in 100+ heat for hours, dropped numerous times, chewed on, and it still works great.

Great "low-end" camera

The camera is extremely easy to use, and does a great job with either pictures or video. When we first "went digital", this was the camera we chose, and were thrilled with it (5 MP was the "standard" then). When that camera was accidentally dropped on the lens and broke, I looked at the "new" offerings (more megapixels, more features), but decided nothing could beat our good old reliable Coolpix 5600 for the price, so bought another one just like our original on Amazon.com. We still love it!

The seller was great. Send it out fast and sent extra batteries out with it

zero stars... Not worth it!

IF your hand is steady and your subjects are willing to stay still for the series of flashes that go off before the final flash that takes the pictures, you do get a decent picture. However, if you are interested in taking spontaneous shots versus posed, this is NOT the camera for you. The camera shuts off for about 10 seconds in between taking shots.

Nikon COOLPIX 5600 Digital Camera

This product replaced an identical one that someone had stolen from me. Therefore, I mainly wanted to make sure it operated as it should. It did not disappoint.

However, I have to mention that the shipper put a sharp cornered box into a sturdy padded envelope that fell apart before it arrived. The shipper should have taken the camera out of the box or enclosed it in another box with peanuts.

An impressively high megapixel count delivers pictures with true-to-life color and high-level detail. What's more, it means images can be significantly enlarged, yet still look absolutely stunning.Accurately measuring available light, the COOLPIX L15 automatically selects the best sensitivity setting. High sensitivity up to 1000 ISO creates new opportunities to take sharper, more natural looking photos in lower lighting conditions.Compatibility with AA-size batteries, which are widely available around the world, means users can go on shooting virtually anywhere without worrying about recharging or running out of power.

Worst Digitial Camera

I bought this camera a few months ago and I'm already buying a new camera. The shutter takes FOREVER. I've missed so many important pictures due to the slow speed. Also 3 months after I bought the camera the lens wouldn't close. I sent it back to Nikon because it was still under warranty and they said that I must have dropped it or broken it some how (which I never did) and they wouldn't cover it. They charge me $50 to fix it and I wish I would have just told them to keep the camera. I would not recommend this camera to anyone.

Good

Not too fancy, easy to use. I haven't print the pictures yet but the look nice on the screen.

Good little camera

I bought this little camera for my nephew. He likes it a lot and have been sending me pictures and video since then.

Rating :

had it for 6 months now

The positives- never read the manual and I can operate it to my satisfaction without having done so (though I know there is probably much to learn if I would take a look). It fits in my handbag so I don't have to carry a camera bag around. The negative- Seems to really eat batteries. A lot.

ADDITION- While using the camera recently, I experienced an issue where the camera lens would not retract into the the body when I turned off the camera. There is a "Lens Error" message on the display and no pictures can be taken. This appears to be a common problem with the CoolPix series. According to the Nikon support website. there isn't anything the user can do about it except try taking the batteries out overnight. That did not work, so it had to go to Nikon for repair. They took care of it at no charge and the process was fairly painless (compared to other warranty service with various companies that I've experienced.)

Excellent Camera for the price!!

Got this camera as a Christmas gift and first used on my trip to Florida this spring. Very easy to use (I never even opened the instruction book) and pictures seem to be of a good quality so far. Battery life was short with regular batteries, but after buying some rechargable batteries, it has been much better. Computer program that came with the camera was also very easy to use. All in all great camera for the price!!

MD) CL) NIKON COOLPIX L6 DIGITAL CAM

Customer Review :

Fantastic! Impossible to beat for the price.

I've had this since February of 2007, so after 20 months of heavy usage, I'm commenting on it.

Few cons: Low maximum ISO setting, flash takes a bit long to recharge ONLY when the batteries get to around or below 1/2 life. And the flash can come off as somewhat weak, but it's not an advanced point and shoot or an SLR, so it's somewhat acceptable for a much less expensive model.

Pros: Everything else! All the shooting modes work great for just about any situation you may find yourself in. The different color modes work flawlessly when in AUTO (only available in AUTO). Videos are pretty fantastic for such a budget minded camera. I've taken many videos from vacations, in the shop at work, at car shows... and all were great. The visuals are sharp as well as the surprisingly good audio quality.

-Outperforms Kodak Z1275/Z1285(twice the MP's of this L6) and is just as good if not better than the Olympus FE-340(which is another great little camera, by the way). All of which I have used, and this Little L6 constantly takes better shots.

I've gotten used to it's capabilities now, so any bad shots are usually my fault.

Great buy! Never had an actual problem. I would highly recommend the L6 as either a first camera or a carry along/back up for just about anyone. No disappointments here.

Good Little Camera With Some Serious Faults

I've had this Coolpix for a couple of years and am ready to upgrade. The flash just takes way too long to recharge, and indoor shots are nowhere near as good as those taken outside in natural lighting. All of the special settings don't seem to make a significant difference in the quality of the photos, and I feel like this was a bit pricey for such a basic camera. Despite what others have written, the battery life for this model has been really bad -- and I've used both regular AA and rechargeable batteries.

Wanted to love it, but ultimately disappointed

Very portable and easy to use. But it eats AA batteries like no tomorrow and pictures were not as sharp as I expected. For landscapes and pictures when you have time to set up your shot, pics are beautiful. Love the panoramic mode for this. But I found that unless the sun was directly behind me, there was a glare-y halo on my pictures that made them look fuzzy and washed out. And, yes, like many other reviews here, the flash takes forever to recharge.

Not really a 'bad' camera, but I expected better from Nikon.

Questions & Answers
Question : Can I fit my old Nikon lenses onto a new digital camera with or without an adaptor?
The Lenses I have are:Nikon AF 70-210mm f/4-5.6 D Zoom-NikkorNikon AF 35-70mm f/2.8D Could they be adapted to a new Nikon digital camera? If so, what models?Also, would it be possible to somehow use an adapter to put them onto the Cannon Digital Rebel XT?Thanks.

Answer:
I currently have used my older Nikon AF lenses with success on my D50, D70, and D200 with no problem. The only exceptions to that full compatibility rule would be the current D40, D40x, or D60, as they lack the internal autofocus motor and must be manually focused.Right now, my long tele of choice is an older Nikon 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF Nikkor. There are zero compatibility problems with my current digitals. This is one of Nikon's strong points, as there is a longer history of compatibility than almost any other DSLR maker.http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility.htmhttp://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibili ty-lens.htmJust a reminder, except for the new D3, with it's full-frame sensor, all other Nikon DSLR's have a 1.5 crop factor, effectively giving your lenses different perspectives in the digital world. Your 70-210mm becomes a 105-315mm and your 35-70mm, becomes a 53-105mm.As for your last question, yes, you can use an adaptor for a "Canon" XT. Hope this helps.

Question : can a nikon slr 35mm lens be used on a nikon digital camera?
i have a nikon n55 film slr and i'm looking to buy a nikon d70 or d80. i have two lenses, one of which is a 70-200mm (af). both the n55 and d70/80 use a 'g' lens mount but i'm wondering if there are disadvantages to using a film lens on a digital camera. thanks in advance!

Answer:
Absolutely .. that is what is so good about Nikon's .. even the old manual focus lenses from 1959 can be used with a little $15 AI modification ... any AI lens forward can be used. I use all my old Nikkor lenses on my D100 and D200 DSLR's.Since your N55 is a auto-focus camera, all of its lenses will work on the D70 or D80 DSLRThere are NO disadvantages using 35mm Nikon "film" lenses on a DSLR

Question : If I'm looking for a very professional Nikon digital camera, what would be a recommendation?
If I'm looking for a very professional digital camera, probably not SLR, what would be a recommendation? I need something with a very GOOD macro setting. I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a Nikon, and I'm also curious about CoolPix. This camera I plan on using for artistic photos, so I'm searching for really nice quality - not a little rectangular box used to take pictures of the family BBQ, you know? hahaha. thanks for taking the time to read this.

Question : Can you use Nikon lenses for film cameras on your digital camera?
I was told that Nikon digital camera lenses are interchangeable with Nikon film camera lenses...the difference being that lenses made for the film cameras cost significantly less than those made for the digital cameras. Does anyone know if you this is true?

Question : Will the lens of an old nikon camera work on one of the new digital cameras?
I have a nikon 8008s camera with three lens for it. If I buy a new nikon digital camera will these lens work on the new camera?

Answer:
Lenses for an F801/8008 would all be Ai or AF/AF-D. They would almost certainly NOT be AF-I/AF-S (the F801/8008 can't operate the autofocus motor in AF-I/AF-S lenses). They would mount on any Nikon digital body.The two gotchas would be:1. Ai lenses (except for the fairly uncommon Ai-P lenses which are actually AF-D lenses without autofocus) would get no metering on anything except the D1/2/3 or D200/300/700.2. AF/AF-D lenses would not autofocus on a D40/D40x/D60Another important thing to note: Except on a D3/D700 all your film lenses will behave like longer lenses on digital bodies, due to the 1.5x crop factor of the smaller sensor.

Question : What is the BEST Canon or Nikon digital camera for MOVIE's w/SOUND and in LONG LENGTHS?
Hey there! I am looking for a Canon or Nikon digital camera that records long, good quality movies with sound. Can you recommend?

Answer:
I would get the Canon Powershot TX1. Most compact digital cameras shoot video at 640 x 480 but this one shoots at 1280 x 720. That's a huge difference. The sound is in CD quality. It can shoot nonstop up to 4GB (which is only 13 minutes as the highest setting).

Question : Will the lenses and flash bulbs of an older Nikon camera be compatable with the newer digital Nikon cameras?
A family member of mine purchased an older semi-professional Nikon camera in the early '90s, and he was wondering if his flash bulb and lenses, also bought new around the same time, would be compatible with a new digital Nikon camera.Advance thanks for any help provided : )

Answer:
I am guessing you mean speedlight or flash and not flashbulb. There are probably only a small percentage of the folks on here that have actually ever used a flash bulb. But I know where you are comming from ~lol~ It depends on the speedlight and lens but probably so . Any speelight with a low enough sync voltage like the SB-25 can be used I will link a chart so you can check the flash. If you do not know the sync voltage or if the chart says its above 12 V for Nikon ( 6 volt for Canon) get a wein hot shoe to hot shoe safe sync slave and you can use any speedliht with that between the speedlight and the cameraHere is the chart http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.htmlNow as to lenses any lens that is AI, AF, AFd, AFs or AFi can be used On some cameras pre AI lenses can also be used ( D40/D60) Others they cannot mount on unless they have been AI converted Yours are probably AF or AFd if they were made in the 90s as they started making them in 1986 and they are still made today, AI lenses will never autofocus they were manual focuse cameras. In addition only AFs and AFi lenses will autofocus on the D40/D40x or D60AI lenses will not meter on D100, D90, D80, D79, D60,D50 or D40. They will not matrix meter on the D1 though they will center weight and spot meter, they meter on all other Nikon dSLRI routinely use lenses from the 70s on my cameras ( D40 and D300) . Feel free to email me with specifics on the camera, lens and spedlight you have gotten. BTW That old film SLR still probably takes great pictures also so keep it around in case you get a yearning to shoot film oneday

Question : If i buy the SB-800 for my Nikon digital camera do i need an umbrella or softbox also?
To take professional pictures with good lighting.Also, which Nikon model digital camera would you recommend?? For portraits/indoor outdoor photography

Answer:
I picked up a LightSphere from Gary Fong for my SB-600, it gives a nice diffused light source. I shoot a fair amount of portraits and like my D90 for that. Good image quality that won't break the bank. For even better the D300s is a higher build quality.

Question : Can I use a Nikon 35mm camera lens with any Nikon Digital Camera?
I've got a lot of great Nikon lenses but want to up grade to a digital camera. Can I get any Nikon Digital Camera to use with these lenses? My understanding is that most F-mount lenses are compatible with newer models.

Answer:
yes and no99% of all nikon 35mm lenses will fit all the current Nikon DSLRs... HOWEVER, certain things may not work on the camera when you use an older lenses metering is sometimes lost on the DSLR if you don't use a Nikon lens that has the electronics in the lens... or if you buy a D40, D40x, D60 you would not be able to use an older Nikon auto focus lens and have the auto focus work unless it was one of the AF lenses with the built in motor. The oldest AF lenses required a motor drive in the camera body to focus the lens, Nikon left that motor out of the low end cheaper DSLRs.
