The Nikon CoolPix S70 is a compact, narrow-profile point-and-shoot digicam that along with its pocket-friendly design features a 12.1 megapixel CCD sensor and a bright, 3.5" OLED Touch Panel screen that allows you to adjust the exposure and tonal values, as well as focus the lens and fire the shutter by merely tapping on the camera's screen. The S70's 5-way Vibration Reduction (VR) system compensates for up to 4-stops of camera shake when shooting at longer shutter speeds. The S70's VR system also increases the camera's shutter speed and adjusts the sensor's ISO sensitivity levels as needed under low-light conditions (up to ISO 6400). For trickier shooting scenarios, the camera's Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically captures up to 10 rapid exposures and selects and saves the best of the lot.Aside from terrific still images, the CoolPix S70 can also capture 720p video clips @ 30fps with sound, which can be played back on your computer or TV for all to enjoy. In the creative department, the S70 features an Auto Scene Selector, which can automatically detect up to 16 picture scenes and set the camera accordingly. And for shooting portraits, the CoolPix S70 features a 3-level skin softening mode, in-camera red-eye reduction, Face-priority AF for up to 12 faces, as well as Smile Shutter and Blink Warning functions to ensure everybody is smiling and wide-eyed in every picture.

CL) NIKON COOLPIX S4 DIGITAL CAMERA
Customer Review :
Great Camera
I bought this camera in May 2007 on clearance at Circuit City for $139, and man, did I get a deal! I've taken this camera on every trip I've been on. It has survived five music festivals, dozens of concerts and even countless mosh pits strapped to my side in a camera case, not to mention it's been dropped a couple times, and it's STILL ticking! Takes great pictures, and with a 10x optical zoom, 6MP, and a swivel lens that allows me to hold it over my head and still see what I'm aiming at, it is perfect for concerts and other similar crowded events. My only regret is that it's not the best in low-light settings unless you're relatively close to the object you're shooting (max flash range of about 10-15 feet). Despite this one flaw, I'm more than happy with this camera, and for what I need and use it for, I couldn't have picked a better one.

Absolutely the most versatile camera I have seen
I bought this a few years ago and it still works great, even after a few drops and scrapes.
The obvious rotating lens is the best thing to come to cameras. I can take great shots while viewing the lcd screen and rotating the lens while holding the camera overhead. An absolute must for parades, crowds, even for getting a different angle for photos. This works equally well for those low shots to get a totally different viewpoint without laying on the ground.
The 10x zoom is incredible too. You can take photos at practically any distance and still come out with a clear photo. I love that zoom! It has lots of other features I simply do not (though probably should learn) use.
The video is on the grainy side, even in daylight. Luckily I don't take many with this camera.
The other plus is it uses AA batteries. I can get batteries at any store with little downtime. I despised using those $40 camera batteries and having extras just to make sure I don't run out of power. I bought AA rechargeable batteries and that works great for me to save $$$ from just alkaline AA's. At least I can switch to alkaline batteries if I do end up using all of my rechargeable ones. That option is wonderful. Too bad the S9 model that replaces the S4 doesn't offer that option.

Don't Do It
I am very unhappy with this camera. I had an Agfa with a swivel lens and when the pixels started missing after 7 or 8 years, I decided to replace it. I searched for another swivel lens and found this one. The images I take with it are almost always burry, no matter which setting I use. I had to return it to Nikon for repair when it stopped functioning (the shutter problem another reviewer described), fortunately (or unfortunately) it was within the year warranty. It is very much a disappointment and for the price, I feel cheated. I wish I could give less than 1 star. Anybody up for a class action lawsuit?

I hate this camera
Peace of crap. I am so mad I spent so much money on this camera. Pictures are blurry no matter what setting it's on. When in poorly lit places (at night, school plays) the pictures turn out so dark you can't even see them. It's not easy to change setting. I have not one nice thing to say about this camera. I have had it for 2 years and I hate it. I am very happy that I dropped it and the lens broke! This gives my husband reason to buy a new one!!

Avoid like the plague, good when working , broke after 2 holidays
At first i really liked this camera, it took some really good outdoor pictures on my holiday this year and last, However after very little use and no damage/drops etc. it no longer works.
The camera has a design flaw in which the internal shutter fails to open and therefore photos cant be taken (well a black screen comes out, but that is all) everything else about this camera was ace.
Looking on the internet for a fix, it would appear this is a massive flaw and nikon are failing to recognise the problem. 1000's of broken camera's all with the same problem, some only a few weeks old, some have been repaired for the fault to return a few days later.
Do not buy this camera, it is a problem waiting to happen. I personally will not buy another nikon product as my holiday was spoilt due to this.

Exceptional and durable, too
My Nikon 8800 has traveled from the Amazon basin to the North Slope of Alaska and has taken over 100,000 photos. It has spent about a month in the hot, humid Amazon basin, a place which claimed the life of one of my past cameras. I've used it so much, I actually wore out one battery pack and had to replace it. Still, three years later the camera is functioning perfectly, just the way it did in the summer of 2004 when I bought it. This camera has been very reliable. The image stabilization is extremely helpful in taking butterfly photos, the project I'm working on with this camera. I also use it to record interesting birds, so I can look them up in a field guide at home. With the image stabilization, I truely don't need to bring binoculars. It is far lighter and easier to transport than SLR type cameras. I find this very helpful. To improve this already excellent camera, I suppose that it would benefit from a bigger LCD monitor, stronger external battery pack, and screws for a cable release. Also, in a perfect world, it would become a bit more light sensative and function better in darker conditions, or allow faster shutter speeds/greater depth of field. Maybe that science fiction type function will become possible some day, but whatever the case, I just love this camera as it is right now. It makes possible butterfly photography at resolutions and distances that were completely impossible just a few years ago.

Broken
This camera has a built in zoom lens. If the lens breaks, you don't have a camera anymore. My lens is failing to zoom and now I have to buy a new camera although the rest of the camera works fine. It's money down the drain. Before the zoom malfunction, the camera took great pictures on a perfect day, but night time, indoor, and action pictures were almost always blurry even if you put it on the night time, indoor, or action settings. Also, the macro doesn't focus as close as I expected. That's something I should have known when I spec'd the camera though. I liked the swivel view finder.

Coolpix 880 problems
I have sent this camera in to Nikon three times in as many years. Takes six weeks or more for repair and has cost from $50 - $110. Now I get a system "error 2" message and they tell me to send it in and they THINK they can fix it, but are not sure. You pay shipping both ways. I am told by other people with the same problem they have sent theirs in and shortly after it started again. Will NEVER buy another Nikon.

Great camera!
I love this camera! It takes amazing clear pictures and is great for begining photographers! It's so complex, if you want to take even better pictures and use all the options that this camera comes equiped with you'll need to have the manual. For a point-and-shoot camera, leave it on auto, or for a pro you can also have it on full manual mode. If you're in between there's modes for that. The flash is great, but if you want to take long range pictures in the dark, upgrade to the amazing Nikon 800 speedlight. Over all, this is a high quality camera for everybody, from pros, to the first camera, and in-between!

A lot of problems
I was so excited to get a "good" camera but for some reason the memory card that came with it didn't work. I used the camera on our vacation to San Diego and the pics weren't very good. I used it on AUTO all the time. Then I got it out to take a picture one day and the screen appeared to be cracked on the inside. I didn't use it and put it away. I got it out the next day and it was cracked even more. I have returned the camera and have not received a new one yet. I was very dissappointed with my choice.

Questions & Answers
Question : If i buy the SB-800 for my Nikon digital camera do i need an umbrella or softbox also?
To take professional pictures with good lighting. Also, which Nikon model digital camera would you recommend?? For portraits/indoor outdoor photography
Answer:
I picked up a LightSphere from Gary Fong for my SB-600, it gives a nice diffused light source. I shoot a fair amount of portraits and like my D90 for that. Good image quality that won't break the bank. For even better the D300s is a higher build quality.

Question : Can I use a Nikon 35mm camera lens with any Nikon Digital Camera?
I've got a lot of great Nikon lenses but want to up grade to a digital camera. Can I get any Nikon Digital Camera to use with these lenses? My understanding is that most F-mount lenses are compatible with newer models.
Answer:
yes and no99% of all nikon 35mm lenses will fit all the current Nikon DSLRs... HOWEVER, certain things may not work on the camera when you use an older lenses metering is sometimes lost on the DSLR if you don't use a Nikon lens that has the electronics in the lens... or if you buy a D40, D40x, D60 you would not be able to use an older Nikon auto focus lens and have the auto focus work unless it was one of the AF lenses with the built in motor. The oldest AF lenses required a motor drive in the camera body to focus the lens, Nikon left that motor out of the low end cheaper DSLRs.

Question : Do I need a special flash for my Nikon Digital Camera?
I need a larger flash for my Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital Camera with a hot shoe, and would love to be able to use the trusty Vivitar Thrysistor 283 that worked so well with my old SLR, but the Nikon manual warns that flashes not specifically made for Nikon Digital Cameras may damage the camera through some kind of electronic feedback. Are they just trying to sell me a $300 flash unit, or is this a valid concern?
Answer:
Yup, it is possible for an old flash to fry a camera due to the trigger voltages. You can check this site for more info on that http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html. Cross reference your flash against the table there. In any case, using an older flash would probably mean a loss of i-ttl (for nikon) or e-ttl (for canon). You would need to use auto/manual flash then. In addition, the camera may also act funny (e.g. my old metz on my canon 20D will always give me a 1/200 f5.6 on program mode. I have to use it in manual mode instead.

Question : If I'm looking for a very professional Nikon digital camera, what would be a recommendation?
If I'm looking for a very professional digital camera, probably not SLR, what would be a recommendation? I need something with a very GOOD macro setting. I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a Nikon, and I'm also curious about CoolPix. This camera I plan on using for artistic photos, so I'm searching for really nice quality - not a little rectangular box used to take pictures of the family BBQ, you know? hahaha. thanks for taking the time to read this.
Answer:
I would recommend Nikon Coolpix P90- 12.1-megapixel resolution for photo-quality prints up to 16 x 20 inches- 24x optical wide-angle (35mm equivalent focal length: 26-624mm) Zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens- 3.0-inch Vari-Angle LCD and Electronic Viewfinder- Nikon's Smart Portrait System; Red-eye Fix, Face Priority AE and morehttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PKEJZQ?ie=UTF8&tag=bestdeals-y-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&cr eative=390957&creativeASIN=B001PKEJZQEven you can consider this one Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 - 12.1-megapixel resolution- 27mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens; 18x optical zoom with POWER O.I.S.- HD movies with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution; AVCHD Lite format- 2.7-inch TFT LCD screenhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IKLJU0?ie=UTF8&tag=bestdeals-y-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789& creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002IKLJU0

Question : Will optional lenses 70-300 etc from a 35 mm nikon 4004 work if i buy a nikon digital camera body?
I have mulitiple lenses from my old 35mm nikon 4004 and I want to use them with a digital camera but I dont know if it can be done...any idea?
Answer:
All of the current Nikon DSLRs except the D40, D40x, D60 are fully compatible (meter and auto-focus) with AF, AF-D lenses from a N4004 including the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G lens. The D40, D40x, D60 cameras meter but do not auto-focus AF and AF-D lenses.

Question : Will the lens of an old nikon camera work on one of the new digital cameras?
I have a nikon 8008s camera with three lens for it. If I buy a new nikon digital camera will these lens work on the new camera?
Answer:
Lenses for an F801/8008 would all be Ai or AF/AF-D. They would almost certainly NOT be AF-I/AF-S (the F801/8008 can't operate the autofocus motor in AF-I/AF-S lenses). They would mount on any Nikon digital body. The two gotchas would be:1. Ai lenses (except for the fairly uncommon Ai-P lenses which are actually AF-D lenses without autofocus) would get no metering on anything except the D1/2/3 or D200/300/700.2. AF/AF-D lenses would not autofocus on a D40/D40x/D60Another important thing to note: Except on a D3/D700 all your film lenses will behave like longer lenses on digital bodies, due to the 1.5x crop factor of the smaller sensor.

Question : Can I fit my old Nikon lenses onto a new digital camera with or without an adaptor?
The Lenses I have are:Nikon AF 70-210mm f/4-5.6 D Zoom-NikkorNikon AF 35-70mm f/2.8D Could they be adapted to a new Nikon digital camera? If so, what models? Also, would it be possible to somehow use an adapter to put them onto the Cannon Digital Rebel XT?Thanks.
Answer:
I currently have used my older Nikon AF lenses with success on my D50, D70, and D200 with no problem. The only exceptions to that full compatibility rule would be the current D40, D40x, or D60, as they lack the internal autofocus motor and must be manually focused.Right now, my long tele of choice is an older Nikon 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF Nikkor. There are zero compatibility problems with my current digitals. This is one of Nikon's strong points, as there is a longer history of compatibility than almost any other DSLR maker.http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility.htmhttp://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibili ty-lens.htmJust a reminder, except for the new D3, with it's full-frame sensor, all other Nikon DSLR's have a 1.5 crop factor, effectively giving your lenses different perspectives in the digital world. Your 70-210mm becomes a 105-315mm and your 35-70mm, becomes a 53-105mm.As for your last question, yes, you can use an adaptor for a "Canon" XT. Hope this helps.

Question : Will the lenses and flash bulbs of an older Nikon camera be compatable with the newer digital Nikon cameras?
A family member of mine purchased an older semi-professional Nikon camera in the early '90s, and he was wondering if his flash bulb and lenses, also bought new around the same time, would be compatible with a new digital Nikon camera.Advance thanks for any help provided : )
Answer:
I am guessing you mean speedlight or flash and not flashbulb. There are probably only a small percentage of the folks on here that have actually ever used a flash bulb. But I know where you are comming from ~lol~ It depends on the speedlight and lens but probably so . Any speelight with a low enough sync voltage like the SB-25 can be used I will link a chart so you can check the flash. If you do not know the sync voltage or if the chart says its above 12 V for Nikon ( 6 volt for Canon) get a wein hot shoe to hot shoe safe sync slave and you can use any speedliht with that between the speedlight and the cameraHere is the chart http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.htmlNow as to lenses any lens that is AI, AF, AFd, AFs or AFi can be used On some cameras pre AI lenses can also be used ( D40/D60) Others they cannot mount on unless they have been AI converted Yours are probably AF or AFd if they were made in the 90s as they started making them in 1986 and they are still made today, AI lenses will never autofocus they were manual focuse cameras. In addition only AFs and AFi lenses will autofocus on the D40/D40x or D60AI lenses will not meter on D100, D90, D80, D79, D60,D50 or D40. They will not matrix meter on the D1 though they will center weight and spot meter, they meter on all other Nikon dSLRI routinely use lenses from the 70s on my cameras ( D40 and D300) . Feel free to email me with specifics on the camera, lens and spedlight you have gotten. BTW That old film SLR still probably takes great pictures also so keep it around in case you get a yearning to shoot film oneday
