FE-26 12 mp camera (only in "Name")

It's pretty grainy, even at higher resolutions, this camera carries out its functions pretty poorly, but for the price?... I would'n buy it again (never, ever or so). I'm not a pro, but maybe a prosumer.

La imagen de esta cámara es muy pixelada, hasta en máxima resolución, incluso con abundante luz, las funciones y el menú son muy básicos, aun con el precio tan bajo no me gusta, no la volvería a comprar nunca, y creo que no compraría ningún otro modelo point & shot de olympus. Aunque no soy fotógrafo profesional mi trabajo esta basado en tomar fotos (y publicarlas) y se lo que digo.

Good for kids

I bought this camera for my 12 year old son. It is perfect for him. It very light weight, most of the exterior is plastic. Pictures are decent and it's easy to use. Although I would not buy it for my primary camera,it would serve nicely as a back up camera. For the price I paid I would buy it again.

FIND ANOTHER CAMERA! You have been warned!

So where should I start? Sloppy, cheap outer plastic that is more suited to a kid's toy camera. And the picture quality if just horrible, just horrible. It's pretty grainy, even at higher resolutions, and the AF/stabilizing features on the camera are just gimmicky. They don't work at all. Basically this camera carries out its functions pretty poorly. Just don't buy, it's just horrible. Even if you're looking for an introductory camera. You have been warned.

Thing is a ROCK

Ok. I love this camera. I didn't order it online, but I kind of feel morally obligated to review it on here after my experiences with it. It takes amazing pictures. There is a macro mode where you can take incredible close up pics of anything (food looks amazing). Video is pretty good, but just the quality of the pictures is what makes me love it. Ok, now to why i am reviewing this. I took my camera when i went fishing with my buddy, and forgot it sitting on a rock in the middle of the woods overnight. There was a rain storm that lasted a good amount of the night. Went back the next day to find it. Absolutely fine. Everything worked perfectly as before. Test #2: about a year later, last week, my mom decided to do my wash and washed a certain pair of jeans that had my olympus fe-230 camera in it. This time: DEAD. I aired it out, took the battery out, recharged it, tried to take the screws out to take it apart, couldn't do that, so i put it back together and ordered a new camera. The new one comes, and I am comparing the two and as I hit the power button on the old one, BAM! It turns on! The pictures are a little bit lighter, but nothing a basic photo editing program can't fix. This thing is a ROCK. I would suggest it to anyone looking for a standard digital camera that takes amazing pics.

Great camera, got it for my mom and she loves it!

My mom really likes Olympus, so figured I'd get her this one and she really loves it. Only downside any of us have found with it is it will only take 15 second video clips on the 640x480 setting. It will run till the battery or XD card is full on 320x240, but quality really suffers in that mode. As far as pictures go, it's not a SLR, but it does as good as my older Canon SD400, so she's happy and that's all I was after.

The item I purchased was never received. Followed up with seller after proposed arrival date came and went letting him know I would be requesting a refund. Refund received immediately. No idea what happened to product. I would suggest to seller to use some sort of tracking method with all packages sent via US postal service.

What's with all the negativity? I'd recommend to EVERYONE!

I'm very surprised by the negative reviews. I took this camera all over the world--literally! I was doing field research on biological reserves in Costa Rica, ie. NO electricity. The camera last the full 16 days I was there. People should know that the battery is drained by viewing the pictures after you take them--without viewing the pictures, the battery life lasted 16+ days!! I always get compliments on the pictures I took in Costa Rica. I didn't have the fuzziness or blurriness that everyone is complaining about...did you try having the camera setting on for the proper environment you were in? I was able to capture great videos--monkey troups swinging from tree to tree for about one minute. Seriously, very happy with this camera...it's not Olympus's fault that people don't know how to use it!

Love it

I've had this camera for 3 years now. Seems to be a mixed bag for most folks, but for me, this camera has been fantastic. I've taken it with me everywhere; backpacking through New Hampshire and Maine, skiing in Germany and Switzerland, and hunting throughout the Southeast. It takes fantastic pictures, for a point and shoot. It's not on par with my new Rebel T1i, but that's the difference $700 and an SLR will get you. I'm not sure about the people complaining about the picture quality, because my shots have been crystal clear. I've got some beautiful pictures from Isola Borromeo, the Jungfrau, and the Maine coastline to back this up.

My one complaint is the processor. It is very, very slow. Most of the pictures of my dog in action are of his rear section as he runs out of frame. But for social shooting and landscape? It's fantastic.

This camera will remain the backup for my SLR for when carrying around a larger camera isn't practical.

It's a great camera and deal for beginners

I Bought this camera in November of 2008. i got it at Costco for $100.00 (with a coupon). I really didn't do any research any, because I was 15 and the deal was about to end. So I looked it up on Amazon (I recommend that); and i liked how it was one of the few cameras out there that had a moderate optical zoom. So I bought it. I thought the i-auto was pretty "intelligent"; so I used that most of the time. But when I took fast action motion, the sports mode really didn't work; then I remembered that the smile shot feature took 3 pictures at once and it works fine. All in all it's a good camera. So my pro's are: Good zoom,good picture quality(compared to excellent), and good price. Cons: There's visible noise when you use digital zoom(so I never use it), sometimes the zoom doesn't respond fast enough. I hope this review helps,thanks for reading.

Ohhh Olympus, the camera is solid but the picture aren't.

How can I describe this camera? It's a Jeckyl & Hyde, you'd say..

The shell feels pretty solid, the LCD screen is good, the speed is just fine, the battery life is great, but unfortunately the picture quality is BAD.

You don't notice is when you take portraits as much, unless there's something in the picture that is square/rectangular. This is where you really see the distortion in the lens.. items with straight lines have a rounded look to them, almost like a fisheye lens.. It is pretty, pretty BAD.

So if you're thinking of buying this camera for taking pictures of your kids or dogs, it's probably just fine. If you're buying this camera to take pictures of real estate or eBay items that need to show an item accurately, you might want to look elsewhere.

FE-370 Olympus

This camera may only be 8 megapixel resolution, but the 5xzoom and size of the lens make for superb resolution during zoom. The stabalization and low light features are also excellent. I owned a Fuji digital camera for many years, and it worked great, but the size of digital cameras and resolution has got so good it was time to upgrade. I found Olympus digital cameras to be of superb quality, the xD memory chip also fits in the front slot of my desktop for instant transfer. If you're after a fairly compact camera (some are slightly thinner) and want excellent resolution during zoom, I highly recommend you look at this one.
