Customer Review :

Slim and good looking, horrible picture quality.

I bought this camera because it looked pretty in the store catalog. However, I was an idiot and did not check to see how the image quality was of the pictures it takes. All of the pictures seem to make the background darker than it really is, and you cannot change it! The design is excellent; the screen of reasonable size. If only the image quality was better...

Awful excuse for a camera.

No matter how you set the settings, the picture quality is grainy, the LCD screen is awful, and it isn't easy to use. Don't even think about taking decent pictures in anything other than full sunlight--this camera chokes in lower light. We were so dissapointed with this camera that we bought another Cannon two months after we bought this. We should have just bought a Cannon to begin with!

My Phone takes better pictures

I may be a bit spoiled by my Canon S5IS camera (which is an in-between SLR and P&S camera)but my wife received this camera for Christmas. When she received it I was a bit hesitant because I was going to buy her a P&S for her birthday soon after Christmas and I did extensive research for smaller P&S cameras.
First - I didn't come with a memory card...which I am not sure any cameras these days come with any but they are pretty cheap these days. So just an FYI...buy a XD or MicroSD card.
Second, I have been fiddling with the settings and well...the pictures are still very bad. My camera phone takes much sharper crisper pictures and it is half of the megapixels plus it is a phone ...so it's main job is phone calls not pictures...
pretty sad that a reputable camera company is putting out Chinese garbage.

Remember: trust reviews (especially the majority's opinion) on Amazon and megapixels don't mean anything when the photo is awful to begin with.

bad news - good news

I have always liked Olympus and bought this thinking it must be OK. It is a nice looking camera, small, nice display, good user interface. Bad news is it takes lousy pictures, fuzzy and out of focus. i've tried all the resolutions from 12M down to 1M and normal and fine compressions. i've tried in bright light, dim, with flash, without flash and in all the modes from antishake to face detect etc. all the pictures look slightly out of focus. there is no manual focus so there's no way to make it better. read the other reviews before you buy but i'm disappointed in Olympus for letting this out under their name.

I love my Olympus FE-4000

This is my second FE-4000; I broke my first one. After reading all the negative reviews, I feel that this camera has gotten a bum rap! It has most of the features of much more expensive models and is a trememdous bargain. As for it's performance all you have to do is learn how to make the proper settings and have the patience to wait for the Auto-focus target box to turn green before shooting. If setting the best shooting mode and scenes is to much for you, just use the "iAUTO" mode and everything is automatically selected for you. But you can't just take this camera out of the box point & shoot.
The biggest problem I had was trying to figure out the hopelessly inadequate operating manual supplied on disk by the manufacturer. It is worse than the IRS tax code. I just studied one button at a time until I figured out all the functions for myself.

Good underwater / tough camera but won't take better pics than your Canon

I got this camera specifically for heavy duty traveling. The pics come out alittle white washed, but after adjusting the exposure you can get it back to normal. You HAVE to get the auto focus to engage before you take a pic or else it will come out blurry and the auto focus is usually pretty slow.

the pics are no where near the quality of my canon, but this camera will serve a useful purpose.

No battery life

Bought this camera for my 12 year old granddaughter for her birthday. I thought good choice because of water resistance and drop resistance.

Before her vacation, she charged and started practicing with it. She could only take ab out 20 pics. before no battery life left. Tried a few times after charging and the same thing.

REturned that camera and ordered a replacement to be shipped to her vacation spot. The same think happened with that camera - NO BATTERY LIFE AT ALL!!!

Finally returned the second one for full credit - now need to find a replacement that can hold a normal charge of at least a days worth of pics.

Anyone else with this problem???

Good choice if you plan to abuse your camera, otherwise, plenty of better choices

Positives:
1) submersible in water to 3m (10 feet),
2) shockproof
3) will work at extreme temperatures (rated to -10C, around 14F)

Negatives:
1)Extremely slow, takes about 6 seconds from the time that you turn on the camera to when its ready to take the first picture. The picture to picture time is also a fairly slow 2 seconds.
2) Poor quality of indoor pictures, some blurring as it does not focus well in poor light. Also some noise on the indoor pictures without flash.
3) LCD is not very bright which can be a problem when trying to compose pictures outdoors

Summary:
Very easy to use, the current settings appear on the side of the LCD and they are easy to change. A fairly robust feature set as well as its ruggedness are the main positives. The poor LCD and very slow response times make it hard to recommend as there are better cameras on the market (see Canon A3100 IS for example). If you need a tough, rugged, camera you'll probably do better with the Panasonic Lumix DMC FT1. Bottom line, I bought this camera and within a week was returning it to buy the Canon A3100 IS, and I'm very happy with that choice.

Not horrible, not great

I had high hopes for this camera, but the reality is it is the bottom of the Stylus Tough series. The shutter speed is so slow that by the time the picture is taken the kids have closed their eyes or walked away. The flash is so rediculos that everything has a white haze around it (that is if it isn't completely washed out). Outdoor pictures are ok, nothing special, the shutter still lags horrible though. I will be calling Olympus with the hopes that my camera was defective and I didn't in fact purchase a low quality product (the only reason I didn't exchange it is because I foolishly didn't test it out until my return period was up, my fault).

On the plus side, I LOVE the one touch HD video recording, and of course, waterproof and shockproof make it great for adventures. The built in storage is great too, just in case you run out of space on your card.

Hopefully, if my unit isn't defective, as the summer goes on, this camera will grow on me! I've got lots of "watery" vacations in store! This camera has lots of potential, no doubt about that, I will continue taking pictures and hopefully post some for others to see.

Accessory Recommendations:
If you buy this product you will most definitely need an adjustable or floating wrist strap (the one it comes with does not tighten around your wrist, and the camera does not float, obviously). You will also want to buy extra batteries (not too expensive on here) as the battery life is pretty weak. For a pretty low price you can get a good warranty with accidental damage because lets face it, if you buy a shockproof/waterproof/freezeproof camera you're likely an adventurous person, and some adventures could leave you with a busted camera!

I Love It!

[...] I am an avid lover of my Olympus Stylus 3000. This compact, and powerful little stylish bubble camera has been the answer to everything that I could possibly ask for.

When Digital Camera's first came out onto the market my very first camera I received was a little digital Olympus from my dad as a gift..

I bet it was something like 5mega pixels or something - but and I loved it too. I carried the little thing everywhere telling my story in self portraying photographs.

..Then somewhere along the lines I decided to take a photography course and upgraded to a Minolta DIMAGE A.2. The BEST on the market at that time (this was in 2004). It was 10 mega pixel SLR and I spent $1100 on that camera.... I hated it. I still dont really know how to use it. Not to mention that Minolta has now become extinct - so I couldnt even buy parts if I wanted to. For YEARS I had this Minolta this BiG honkin' piece of machinery.... That I simply hated carrying around...

Now its 2010, and it was time for an upgrade. Really I was looking for a new still camera that I could compact with me everywhere I went, but there was a catch. I wanted video capacity and HD preferably... Something Cute, and not to expensive...

Then TaDa! This little stylus perked up its little face on Amazon.com. Now the first thing that attracted me to this little Olympus was his price...he was comparably priced at approximately $200, and of course because I once had a Olympus before that I very much loved, we instantly had a connection. Then he continued to tell me about himself...

"I'm waterproof" he said seductively. "You can carry me around with you, anywhere, and we will have an amazing time...you'll never have to worry about me because not only am I susceptible to water, up to 3 meters... but I'm also Shockproof" he said cockily to me. "I'm a Stylus Tough, and I'm one of a kind."

How could I not fall in love with such a wonderful little camera?

But before I could commit to him; I need to feel him, hold him in my hands and KNOW for sure that he was the one for me. So I looked around looking for my prince charming camera. I met many other camera's in the process... but none of them were stacking up to the stylus that I read about on Amazon.com

Then Finally I found him! He came in 4 different colors to choose from, but I knew that I wanted him in Red. The clerk as he was showing him to me, was as charismatic as the camera, and I knew that we were a perfect fit. Today was the day that I getting my new little Olympus Stylus 3000!

He was perfect to hold in my hand, and I liked that his lens was not retractable. To me, that was a feature that was less likely to cause me to send him away to the warranty hospital. His buttons on the back are rubberized and soft. Everything about this camera is fun and noninvasive. He has many "magic" features, and a wide arrange of capture settings such as `cuisine' and `pets'. My favorite setting is the pinhole, and popart in the magicbox. But you can also stencil and create coloring pages!

The only downfall that I have about this little camera is uploading the video. The video feed is only compatible in Quicktime (MP4) and I have to convert all my videos in order to alter them in moviemaking which compromises the quality - quite a bit. And when you are recording video you cannot zoom. you can zoom before you start recording and it will work, but once the red little button has been pushed that's it! no changes missy! and unfortunately the features don't work in video either... so no popart videos :(

Besides that, I highly recommend this Powerful little 12mp, Stylus Camera!

Pros and Cons Make It Difficult to Give a Star-rating

I wanted a small point-and-shoot camera that I could easily stash in my purse for quick snapshots, and I settled on the Olympus T-100 because of price and my outstanding experience with an Olympus Stylus. I expected a no-frills camera with good optics and ease-of-use; I was looking for value and small size. Although I got what I expected -- and for that the T-100 deserves a five-star rating--the camera has other limitations and flaws that consumers should weigh against the cost and the competition. Note: all the 12MP T-100s -- red, blue, black, and silver-- are the same except for the body color.

Pros: sharp 12 MP pictures in an inexpensive camera; rechargeable lithium battery (which some people may view as a con); a lens cover that is recessed when closed so that does not open easily if you accidentally brush against it; built-in flash that can be set to go off either automatically or only on demand; a sizable LCD screen for composing and viewing photos; the ability to focus on an object, then compose the photograph with it no longer in the center (shutter button halfway down before snapping); menu functions that actually work -- self-timer, macro, portrait, landscape, sports, etc. -- 21 in all; VGA movie mode to shoot brief videos; SDHC memory card-compatible (Olympus used to have their own XD card format); image stabilization; 3x zoom; ability to zoom in and out while shooting video; battery can be charged using either a regular outlet or a powered USB port; adjustable compression and picture quality settings.

Cons: the housing is mostly plastic, making it feel only one step up from a disposable camera; no memory card included, not even one that will hold a few photos; battery must charge inside camera, making it difficult to prepare extra batteries for a trip; battery does not arrive charged, as many companies are doing today; with few outside buttons, most features need to be activated through the on-screen menu, making it cumbersome to switch from one to another; a somewhat thick body with rectangular corners on one side which makes it awkward to slip into a pocket; a user manual and software on CD that is only usable on a Windows machine; it takes a while to figure out the menu items.

The camera comes with a lithium battery, a wrist strap; a charger with USB cable; and a software/manual disc that works only on Windows machines. If you order this, you should buy at the same time an SDHC card such as Transcend 8 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card TS8GSDHC6. This camera has been marketed as ideal for teenagers, primarily because of the cost but also because of the ease of use. Of course, it also means that adults might be disappointed with its construction. It is definitely not as high-tech/cool-looking as the other small point-and-shoots in the Nikon and Canon lines. I'd give it 4 stars for the photographic quality, 3 stars for aesthetics and housing; 5 stars for overall value.

Great... But not perfect

I am very impressed with this camera, and I highly recommend it. My only complant is its battery life which is good, but just not as good as the rest of the camera. It takes super great pictures, and has many useful features and shooting modes. Like panorama, Magic, and beauty. I love having the 7X optical zoom, along with the 5X digital. You can use the digital zoom even while shooting video. It has this cool feature that I really like called Sequential shooting, which can take many many picture very fast. Of course it reduces the quality of the photo, but not to an unbearable level, and if you don't zoom in unnoticeable.

Pros-

*Picture quality
*Ease of use
*Features
*Zoom
*Speed

Cons-
*Perfect camera, just not enough battery life

I love this camera and encourage you to buy it. The battery wont trouble you unless you are going on a trip like I was and you take over 400 pictures a day.

Apraiser one

This camera is a great value. The only fault is that the feature buttons are in an awkward place. I keep pushing them by accident. Hopefully after a little more use I will get the hang of the proper way to hold the camera. I am a residential real estate appraiser and highly recommend this product as a work tool. To date I have not used the video feature , so I did not rate this function.

Good overall value

Great camera for the price, good features,so far no issues seems like good quality. Would like to see better battery options, cause it does eat up battery life pretty quick.

Very good value

I am an amateur who would prefer an SLR, but am too cheap to buy one. This camera is close to an SLR. I would like to be able to attach a shutter release cable instead of pushing a button and possibly shaking the camera during macro and zoom.

So far I have been taking mostly super macro of flowers and bugs and they are VERY beautiful. I display them on my computer walpaper slide show and the detail and clarity are beyond my expectations.

I have been taking most pictures with camera attached to a monopod which helps stabilize the camera.

This camera is very easy to use, seems to have a very good lense. I love it.

Question : How to recovery deleted pictures from an Olympus digital camera?
The pictures were captured with an Olympus FE-210 digital camera on June 6 between the hours of 8pm to 2am. On Friday they were formatted/ deleted. I've tried online recovery website but it recovers recently deleted pictures. If someone could give me any websites, companies, or telephone numbers that can help me retrieve my pictures, do tell. Thank you sooo much!!

Answer:
first off, formating and just simply deleting stuff are similar, but two different things. When you format, you're re-writing the build up of the card so that your camera can read/write to it. Everything getting deleted is just an extra side-effect. When you delete something, you're just erasing that particular area of memory.if you've already formated the card, then theres pretty much nothing that can be done, you're pictures are unfortunately lost. If you just deleted the pics, theres an off hand chance you can still get them back.just google something like memory card recoveryheres one site I found:http://www.ultimateslr.com/memory-card-recovery.php

Question : Is an Olympus Digital Camera a good one?
I'm trying to buy a good digital camera with about 10 or 12 mega pixels and I was thinking about an Olympus. Is that a good choice of a camera? Or is there a better one?

Answer:
Olympus cameras are good .You can check out olympus stylus 7010 information here.http://techfreak.byteicon.com/category/digicams/

Question : Can you help me decide if I should keep my new Olympus digital camera.?
I just got a new Olympus FE-230 7.1 digital camera. It takes an xD memory card. My Gateway Media Center laptop has a port that accepts SD size memory cards, but not the smaller xD. I have not even taken the camera out of the box. I'm thinking I should exchange it for a camera that requires SD cards so it will be compatible with my computer . Please help me decide. I don't need anything fancy, just a basic camera and this one seems to fit the bill. Would I be better off with one that takes SD cards? (for computer compatibility) Seems like there are more SD cards on the market than xDs. Does that mean they are better? If YOU were buying a camera today would it make any difference to you if it took an SD card or an xD card? Thanks.

Answer:
The camera that you purchased is a very nice camera and is inexpensive. I would say that you should keep the camera and that you should purchase a card reader or just use the USB cable that came with the camera(even though it is a little slower and will eat up some battery life) but you can recharge the battery and as long as you keep up with that you should just use the USB cable that is in the box.Keep the camera.SD is not better or worse by the way, but olympus and fuji both make XD and that is one way they are able to compete in the Digital Camera mkt. by making proprietary accessories.

Question : How can I get sound when I playback a video on my Olympus digital camera?
I just got an Olympus FE-4000 Digital camera for my birthday and whenever i take a video, there is no sound when I try to play back the video on my camera. If someone could tell me how to turn the sound on or tell me if it's not working that'd be great. Thanks in advance!

Answer:
There are only a few cameras equipped with a speaker. The only way would be to upload.

Question : Is there anyway to recover deleted videos off a olympus digital camera?
last night some dude took my camera at a concert and deleted the videos i had taken. but i was 8th row and there was one of my favorite band member pointing at my poster. id really love if someone could tell me a way to get back the videos he deleted. i have a OLYMPUS FE-340 digital camera if that makes any difference. i know there are programs but id prefer something with a free trial or that is free. thank you!

Answer:
You need to spend some money.www.calumetphoto.comMedia Medic. In the meantime DO NOT TAKE ANY MORE PHOTOS with the camera.YOU WILL OVERWRITE THE DELETED FILES and then they WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE RECOVERED.$20 or thereabouts for the software.

Question : Trying to restore pictures from olympus digital camera with xd card?
I am trying to restore lost pictures from an Olympus digital camera that uses an xd card. There was a problem when I went to load the pictures, and the camera screen said to format it. After checking the card for the pics (they weren't there) we formatted. I have used several programs to try to get the pictures, using a card reader. Are they lost forever? One site I went on said if you used an Olympus with an xd card you can't recover the pics. These are very important pics, and I need them back. Thanks for any help!

Answer:
They are not really gone unless you have reformatted the card, or written over them with new pictures. The blog below has put together some simple instructions and recommends a few free programs. I have used the PC Inspector and SoftPerfect products to recover my pictures as well as those of friends. In some cases I wasn't able to get all of my pictures, but I was happy to get back what I could. The first letter of the filename is lost but it's typically easy to figure out what it was supposed to beIt seems there are a few programs that recover pics from xd cards. See the links. You can google "recover images xd" to see what's out there.

Question : Nikon or Olympus digital camera, which is easier to use?
I've not got much experience in camera's but i have fount nikon's easy to use when i've borrowed them, i've never used an olympus at all but the one's i've been looking at buying are a nikon or an olympus digital slr camera's, which is easier to use and gives better results etc? thanks.

Answer:
By nature all adjustable cameras are as easy or difficult to use based upon your skill levelANY DSLR can be used as a point and shoot camera using the program mode and auto focus. The results of any camera is again, based upon the skills of its user.Go onto a camera store and hold both the Nikon and Olympus cameras in your hands. See which is easiest for you to use without any instruction. There will be your answer.

Question : Why wont my Olympus digital camera load anymore photos?
My Olympus camera has a 2MB xD card and ive used probably just under 1 MB of it, so its not full. But all of a sudden I loaded my pictures on to my computer ike normal and it just won't load them! The cords fine, cameras fine what could be wrong with it?

Answer:
Format the card inside the camera - not in the computer. If the card is working properly this will take care of the problem. However, don't load photos back onto the card, it's not designed as a storage device and could easily fail if you treat it this way.

Question : How much is an average memory card for Olympus digital camera?
I need it for my Olympus FE 280. I purchased the camera but totally forgot about the memory card. So, I wasn't able to go check out the price. Wondering if anyone knows the price? I want it in RM (Ringgit Malaysia) Thank you in advance :)

Answer:
memory cards right now are not expensive anymore, you can buy 2 gb for a price of $49.00

Question : What should i say to the olympus digital camera company?
my camera was almost 500 $ with the 3 year warranty. it was waterproof, shockproof, and freeze resistant. it was a great camera and i took care of it really well! i mean i worked at a cleaning company for a summer to save up for it, than just before Christmas time it stopped working. when i took it into black(where i bought it from) they said there's nothing they can do. A lady at the store said when i went in again a few weeks ago said i should e mail olympus or call them. What would be better and what should i say?

Answer:
Call Olympus and tell them what's wrong with it... since it's still under warranty, they'll either fix it or give you a new one.
