Customer Review :

Nice camera and a bargain also

I have been pleased with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH1. I have also purchased an 8GB SD card to use with it so I would not run out of storage space in a normal day of vacationing. It is a little larger in size than my Canon Power Shot SD1100 IS but it will still fit in your jeans pocket so you don't have to carry around a camera bag. The view screen is about as large as would fit on the camera. Because it is a 12mb camera, you can do a lot of cropping and still end up with a printable picture. The best thing I can say about the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH1 is that I would buy it again for myself and recommend to my friends. The Amazon's price is right on this camera.

great photos, best low light too

I had a panasonic DMC camera for years with aa batteries. I broke it on a trip and went through 2 new canons, a wide angle Panasonic & a Casio to try to just duplicate the quality of photos from my old Panasonic. Finally gave up and bought this one. (DMC FS7) It is 33 rather than a 28 lense like most of the new cameras. The depth of fi ld, sharpness, and quality of color (I USE VIVID always) is just fantastic. It feels like a well built camera too..no plastic USB flap but a good sturdy metal one. In low light it is unbelievable. I took the inside of a birdhouse about 10pm in Alaska (w/out flash) and it was bright and clear..just drew in light. With those 28mm cameras they need more light and so the f-stop is always 2.8 or such and the depth of field is horrid and the photo edges are just NOT clear. LOVE this Panasonic! Good sharp, clear photos!

    Great pocket camera

This is an easy to use camera. It is not as good as my big Nikon SLR but my Nikon will not fit in my pocket. This little Panasonic is becoming my favorite casual use camera. I am particularly happy with low light images.

    Perfect compact camera

Great camera. Excellent point and shoot. Good in low light (interior photos). Hardly taken a bad photo with it. Controls are easy to reach, and easy to use. Keeps popping up with new features - like the night photo setting which allows up to 60 second exposure! On a point and shoot.
    Value for money is incredible.
You will not be disappointed with this camera.

Bang for the buck?....Oh yeah..for sure.

This is only my initial review since I have only lived with the camera for about 2 days. Lets start out with the background. I am a professional photographer with a couple big boy DSLR's (NIKON D200 and D300s)so I know my way around a camera.

    The GOODS
    1) Drop dead easy to use. Took me 3 minutes to figure out. Handed it to my not so tech savy girl and she got it within 15min. Press this to do this, press this to do that..SIMPLE
    2) The iA button is a dream. Practically anyone can pick it up and use it.
    3) Pretty fast for a budget PnS
    4) Picture quality is nice, again I wasnt expecting much, but it does take some pretty nice photographs
    5) I love the 16:9 aspect ratio, gives the photos a different feel
    6) AutoFocus in low light is pretty impressive, from focus to fire is barely noticeable. I was able to surprise my GF before she could get her hand up to cover her face.

    The BADS
    1) Is super lite, and as a result, feels a bit cheap (but it is)
    2) No zoom while in vid mode, but thats something I can live without
    3) Proprietary data cable, Im not a fan of this at all. I wish it came with a mini-USB instead

    unreliable

Very nice camera with good features. But after 1 year, the little focusing motor in the lens failed. Warranty is expired, repair cost is greater than cost of new camera. Beware!

    Not a perfect handbag camera

I purchased this camera for my wife to keep in her handbag. The size is great for that, and she loved the pink color. However, the on/off switch is too easily moved and so the camera is always turning on in her bag. The main problem is that it extends the lens and opens the built-in lens cover. So then the exposed lens is hitting against other things in her bag and getting filled with lint.

I'm not impressed with the low light capability and the flash is pretty weak, but it is by far the smallest camera I've owned. I've not compared to other cameras of the same size.

    Waterproof, Shockproof And Dustproof
The camera body is waterproof to 10 ft. It's dustproof too, so you don't have to worry about dust or sand getting inside. It has passed drop tests at a height of 5 ft. This is one tough little camera that you can take wherever the action takes you.

AVCHD Lite lets you shoot beautiful HD motion images for a longer time
The TS1 records HD motion images with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution while zooming in and out. It uses the AVCHD Lite (MPEG-4/H.264), which achieves higher image quality and stores less data than the conventional Motion JPEG.

iA mode, for beautiful photos and movies automatically
Just set the camera to iA mode, aim and shoot. The camera does the rest, automatically activating seven detection and correction functions. These include MEGA O.I.S., which helps prevent blurring due to shaky hands, and Face Recognition, which finds familiar faces in a group of people and captures them in clear focus and with proper exposure.*

    * Turn Face Recognition item ON and resister the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance.

28mm wide-angle LUMIX Lens with 4.6x optical zoom
A retracting lens with folding optics is used in this 4.6x zoom lens system, which lets you take shots from 28mm wide angle to 128mm telephoto. This gives you the flexibility for virtually any shooting situation even underwater, where your movement is restricted and the angle of view becomes especially important for composing your picture.

    Customer Review :

Best possible camera for that price

It is a great camera. The underwater performance is great. I used for a shooting a video about rivers and combining the underwater videos with a Canon's 7D footage was seamless. The quality of the lenses is really good.

A Great Camera if you can hang on to it!!

I purchased my Lumix DMC-TS1 in January 2010 to use when we go fishing. I wanted a camera that not only could take digital pictures, but one that was waterproof. I used the camera successfully for 5 months until it was stolen on our fishing trip last week in Northern Michigan. I am still upset that someone would take or find something that is not theirs. They got a great camera!
I liked how easy it was to use and the quality of the pictures. I never had a chance to use it underwater or take video.

I just ordered another Lumix replacement, but upgraded to the DMC-TS2. We shall see how well this camera works.

Not waterproof under 10 meters. Not waterproof under 10 feet.

I bought this camera after losing my last Lumix to a leaky bottle of water in my backpack, specifically because it was waterproof. I took it in a pool yesterday in less than 10 feet of water and water leaked into the compartment that houses the battery and memory card. It is ruined. I am finished buying Panasonic Lumix cameras.

    Lumix Fun Camera

Most fun I've ever had with a camera - playing in and below the surf and no worries of water on the camera. Nice video, good picture quality.

    Leaked and dead

Owned for 2 months - survived a trip to Mexico, in the ocean and pools, no problem, but the next time I used it in water (in a 3 foot deep pool), it leaked, - camera suddenly turned off and I saw fog on the inside of the lens. After drying, I checked the seal, opened the battery compartment, water drops everywhere.

I had a 10megapixel Olympus, which I took down to 50 feet while diving, never had an issue with leakage. Panasonic did not get it right with this one, with their seals.

Going to contact the manufacturer, see what they say on a return...such a pain in the neck, even if they do come through on a replacement.

My suggestion, if you want a waterproof camera, is buy an Olympus.

    Overrated

"A leading consumer magazine" rated this camera quite highly recently. I'm not sure why.

Pictures in low light are grainy. Ones in bright light aren't very sharp. Shutter response is decently fast.

It is small and inexpensive, so there's that. My wife will carry it with her and get pictures that she would have otherwise missed, so that's a good thing. If these things aren't the primary characteristics you're looking for in a point-and-shoot camera, then I'd keep looking.

    Finally I'm satisfied

I had a Konica Minolta Dimage X60 for the longest time and wanted a replacement now, my old camera was 5 years old and became slower and slower.

I tried 3 other cameras (Samsung, Nikon and Olympus) but had to send them back.... but the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP1 (I didn't want the FP-3, I don't like touchscreens) is beyond my expectations.

The battery life is outstanding, I love that you don't have the lens coming out while zooming (was used to the inside lens from the Konica), the colors are really natural, the screen is crystal clear, the operation is so easy, the camera is very light and compact.... what else can I say :)
    I'm finally satisfied!!!!

Oh there is one small con.... the camera takes HD videos (my old camera only took VGA) but you have to zoom in or focus before you start recording... after you hit the recording button you can't zoom in anymore. However the quality of the video is awesome!!

4 stars from me... I'm really happy... if I could zoom in while taking a video I would give the camera 5 stars. However I did some research and not many cameras can zoom in while taking HD videos, so all good ;)

Battery life and picture quality is what matters most to me!!!

This is not a review of the functionality of the camera itself, as I didn't even turn it on. When I opened the box I quickly realized that it's on the pink side and not a deep red as the photo appears. If you are a man looking for a red camera, steer clear from this one, it's for the ladies.

Question : When taking a video clip using zoom with my Panasonic FZ30 digital camera, the focus drifts in and out.?
When taking a video clip using zoom with my Panasonic FZ30 digital camera, the focus drifts in and out. What might cause this and what can be done to correct it? Thanks.

    Answer:
You can't correct it because the camera is trying to focus on what ever it can find in the frame. It's an automatic function programmed into the system. So if you move the camera while it's recording or if you're trying to record moving objects, this will always happen. I know because I own a Fuji 9000 that is video capable and it does exactly the same thing. The only cameras I know of that don't do this are SLR's that are video capable. They don't because you can set the lens to manual focus and then twist the focus ring yourself. Automatic cameras don't have this function.

Question : I want to buy a Panasonic digital camera but wondered which model in the TZ range has better images?
I can see that different models have come out but on Flikr I saw images taken by the TZ 5 were really impressive on portraits and holiday pictures, but I wondered if anyone could say which TZ models are equally good.I do not mind if it is older versians, basically I am seeking a good holiday camera in this range, specifically Egypt

    Answer:
Well the TZ6 and TZ7 were released the same time I think? and the TZ7 just has a bit bigger screen but costs more. The TZ8 and TZ10 were released at the same time, the newer range and the TZ10 just has GPS, has slightly better megapixel and a slightly bigger screen but costs more. I also heard that the GPS takes up battery life but you can turn it off.
