Good choice

I've had this camera for about a year now. I've taken thousands of shots and it has preformed without missing a beat. What I still love most about this camera is it's small size, quick start up and amazingly long battery life. What I like least is the picture quality. It's fine for shots that don't require a great level of detail but use it for something close up or zoom in on a picture you've taken and you'll notice a great deal of "noise" in the image. I'm still happy using it but I know there is better out there. When this one dies I will probably get a Canon based on the several positive reviews I read about that make.

broken re-furbished camera

This vendor sold me a broken, re-furbished camera. On the first day of my trip to Brazil my camera broke. I didn`t drop it or bang it against anything, I used it normally, took some photos that afternoon. I noticed that the camera was draining my batteries (from a previous version of this camera) much faster than normal. I tried turning on my camera the next day and it didn`t work. I tried recharging the batteries again and nothing. Its a shame, because I had a previous version of this Panasonic Luminix camera and they are great cameras`... and of course it also almost ruined my trip to south america as i had to buy another camera from Sony Brasil that isn`t that great in quality (errors on some of the images I took)

Great for Daylight and Outdoor photos

Camera takes great photos if out in the sun or daylight. Indoors or flash are awful from my experience. It is nice and small, sturdy and has served me well for what I like to take photos of and I have several others so this is just one for the pocket when out and about.

WARNINGS about this Panasonic camera

I'm sort of relieved that my Lumix FX-01 is at Panasonic after I refused to pay $111 to have them fix my lens, which bent to the side.

How did it bend to the side?
See that on/off switch on the top of the camera? The entire time I had the camera it would turn on by itself since it's very easy to hit by accident. Apparently this happened somehow in my pocket and the lens bent and stuck.

When I pointed out to customer service that no other camera has a switch that extends like that - and seemingly for a very good reason - they were not moved.

On another note this camera is HORRIBLE in low light photography. Additionally the colors and photos were always kind of harsh without the nuance and "wysiwyg" quality I got with my old Canon point and shoot.

I HIGHLY recommend getting a Canon instead of this. The main reason I got this Lumix was a 28mm lens, but that wasn't worth it -- especially after my bad experience with their product design.

Don't ever lose the proprietary data cable for this camera

This camera takes great pictures and is very compact and portable. I've loved having it, but it has one glaring flaw which is the proprietary data cable. If you lose it, there is no universal cable you can use to transfer your pictures to your computer. You have to buy a very specific replacement cable. Not being able to get my pictures off my own camera has rendered it nearly pointless.

You don't have to be a digital camera expert to take great photos. Simply set the DMC-LS80 to Intelligent Mode and it's easy to get clear, beautiful images every time you shoot. MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) will automatically detect and compensate for hand shake, while Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur by sensing subject movement and adjusting the ISO setting and shutter speed accordingly. Get perfect close-ups, too, with the camera's Macro mode, which automatically switches on when you bring the lens in close to a subject. A high-image-quality CCD with 8.1 effective megapixels combines with a 3x optical zoom lens to help you capture beautiful images in all kinds of shooting situations. The Easy Zoom button instantly extends the optical zoom and Extra Optical Zoom to full telescopic position. The 2.5" diagonal LCD makes viewing and shooting easier and more comfortable. Intelligent LCD functions include Auto Power LCD for increased backlight brightness in the sun and Bright Live View, which automatically increases the brightness of live images according to the level of ambient darkness. Unremarkable pictures

I've been using a Canon A550 point and shoot for two years now. It takes amazing pictures but is finicky about batteries. I decided to try the Panasonic DMC-LS80S after reading good reviews on this website. I returned the Panasonic this morning. The pictures were blurry, noisy, and dull. I am amazed that Canon could get it so right and that Panasonic could get it so wrong.

Perfect Point And Shoot Camera

Bought this camera for simple Point and Shoot ability. Very, very pleased with pictures. Used Intelligent Mode for recent trip and only 1 picture out of 90+ came out blurry. All others were perfect including motion and low light situations. Battery life is awesome, even with flash. Power-on to shoot time less than 3 seconds. Couldn't ask for more. Definitely recommend for a Point and Shoot camera that does all of the work but also gives you plenty of options to manually adjust the settings. Nice and lite in weight and fits in pocket. No optical view finder is no problem even in bright light situations.

Great value, hardy little camera

I bought this camera when I was in Anchorage, AK in the middle of winter to take along to the Iditarod race. I didn't want to take my Nikon DSLR as I was going to be volunteering, therefore I didn't know what to expect as far as accommodations for my things. I was glad I made the purchase, let me tell you.

It has a compact design, but it is weighty and lacks protrusions other than the feature knob at the top. This is key to keep from things breaking off with normal use. I've dropped this camera several times and it has not broken once! When I took it to the aforementioned Iditarod race, I fell on it (long story) and it suffered no ill effects. I, however, did!

That was over a year ago, and the camera is still going strong. The functions are easy to use and even though it is an 8 mp, there aren't a whole lot of unnecessary bells and whistles to it. Which is good, since I hate seeing pretentious point-and-shoots touted with attributes that only someone using a DSLR should be using. There is simply no comparison between the two as far as quality, depth and focus.

But, if you're looking for a cheaper, well-built camera to carry in your purse or pocket, this is the camera for you. My great-grandpa always said Lumix lenses were the best, and he was right.

My only gripe is having to use AA batteries. I always try to get cameras with battery packs, but I was in a bind and yada yada. It sucks the power out of those pretty quickly. But considering I was outside for 8 hours in 10 degree weather, the batteries held up well enough to take quite a few pictures and videos.

And a note on the videos, there is no microphone in the camera, so you get some great quality silent movies. Can't have everything I guess.

great little camera

I'm very happy with this little camera and most importantly for me found it easy and simple to understand the controls. Excellent value for the performance to be had as it takes crystal clear pictures with an auto "macro" mode for up-close detail shots of the things I build. As with all things Panasonic, I didn't find much not to like about it.

Round spots of photographs taken inside

I have returned the camera two times and Panasonic replaced the lens system both times but the camera continues to have round spots on pictures taken inside as it has from my orginial purchase. I have purchased several Panasonic products in the past but I am looking at other brands for my next purchase. I cannot believe Panasonic would market a product with its name on it and not be able to correct this problem.

This is actually our second DMC LZ7. Our first one was destroyed by an airline. Manual is very easy to understand, and the camera is very easy to operate. Takes great pictures. I don't do anything fancy when taking pictures, but it's just fine for what I need it to do.

Nice camera for the price.

This the third Panasonic camera I've purchased, and I'm very pleased with all of them. This camera does burn through rechargeable batteries very quickly, however. It does well with alkalines, so my daughter will be able to use them when she travels to England. The picture quality is good. The choice of settings allows her to take photos under various conditions. She is very much a novice, so the camera was a good choice. It has a nice zoom and quickly recycles to take the next shot.

Extremely good value for price

This camera is sold very cheaply, especially refurb or used, under 100$. it performs better than any camera you can get at this price! the pictures have great detailed quality. outdoors, the quality is similar to decent SLR camera. Zoom is big, wide angel is also great. I have it as a second camera, and when I need a point and shoot this is a great choice. I tried few before and was not happy, the main reason was the small poor lenses you get on all the cheaper cameras, this one has a relatively large and bright lens. No viewfinder, that's the only disadvantage.

Great Outdoors & Macro Camers

This camera is highly recommended by many reviewers as the top camera in its class.

This camera is excellent for outdoor nature with good lighting. You need to anticipate a shot by depressing te shuttr halfway and then fully depressing for your shot.
The camera is also esxcellent for flowers, insects and all things small either with good lighting or with a fash.
The camera is average for indoor flash shots from 5-8 feet away. Movies (includng HDTV) come out well even with marginal lighting. The wonderful thing about this camera is that is sports a 12z zoom and image stabalization and yet it is small enough that you can always carry it with you. Just remember it low ighting limitations and you will be very happy with te camera.

Pros:
compact size. Easily fits in shirtpocket or purse.
simple to use in the default dumbeddown mode. I gave this camera to my wife and she was instantly taking pictures.
Good color quality.
Sharp focs with ufficient light as outdoors on sunny day.
12x optical zoom is useful over entire range.
Good battery life and cmpact charger is easy to carry for travel.
Excellent HDTV movies
Excellent macro/flashwith great focus and color.

Just OK's.
Not the fastest to shoot a picture, but adequate.
HDTV eding for ACHD format is in its infancy.

Cons
Weak indoor camera. Camera will auto select ISOP whichwill enable you to get truly unmemorable shots which yo cannot delete fast nough.
Best to alwas se flash indoors and then to only shoot for focus about 5 to 8 fee away or picture will be overexposed/bad focus or dark.

Doesn't quite make the grade...

I did some very brief research and bought this camera based mostly on the price and customer reviews. It was my first Panasonic and I just wanted a P&S that I could carry on my belt (with separate case that I bought).

The camera was disappointing. Although the quality of the pictures in general were good, we missed a lot of good opportunities because of camera recycling time. And if you leave it on continuous shots, you get SO many at one time that it takes up your memory stick, so you have to go and delete one by one, which is not easy when looking through the LCD screen.

The construction also seems a bit cheaply done.

I won't return the camera, however, I will probably keep it in the car for "event emergencies," those times when you wish you had had a camera on you. If it gets stolen, so be it.

And the case that I found online for it was a very bulky one, defeating the purpose of getting a small P&S.

I would suggest to all users to look into the Canon sd780is (which I ended up buyin) or the Nikon Coolpix 630.

Excellent camera

Using AA batteries is a big advantage - you do not have to worry about rechargables dieing at the wrong time.
Just carry a couple of AA's with you. Fits in a pocket or purse.
This is great for foreign travel. Batteries last a long time compared to my Coolpix which has very short battery life.
Very good picture quality with great contrast and color saturation.
Carry it everywhere with you - you never know when a great picture will appear. Excellent value.

Question : Whats better a Nikon or Panasonic digital camera?
Trying to buy a new camera, im looking at a Nikon and a Panasonic, which one should i get?

Answer:
Look at Nikon, or CanonMy preference in the larger DSLR's are the Nikon's (of course!)Canon makes good stuff too, but I prefer the "ergonomics" or layout on the Nikon. In the smaller Point n shooters, Canon may have the slight edge. Both cameras are good, but Canon gives a larger selection of cameras with an "optical viewfinder" which I prefer in the bright sunlight. Those LCD viewfinders can be hard to see in bright sunlight.Make sure you get one with the VR (Vibration Reduction, Nikon)or the IS (Image Stabilization, Canon) to help you get good shots in the low light tough shooting conditions.

Question : does digital camera Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS3 have the function zoom while recording ?
my digital camera, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS3, does it have the function zoom while recording ? if yes, how do i turn that function on ?

Answer:
No, unfortunately, it doesn't. Very few compact cameras allow you to zoom while recording video. Unlike camcorders, the zoom mechanism for a compact camera is motor driven, and the camera will pick up the noise of the motor if you zoom while you're recording. For this reason, the feature is almost always disabled by the manufacturer.

Question : I want to buy a Panasonic digital camera but wondered which model in the TZ range has better images?
I can see that different models have come out but on Flikr I saw images taken by the TZ 5 were really impressive on portraits and holiday pictures, but I wondered if anyone could say which TZ models are equally good.I do not mind if it is older versians, basically I am seeking a good holiday camera in this range, specifically Egypt

Answer:
Well the TZ6 and TZ7 were released the same time I think? and the TZ7 just has a bit bigger screen but costs more. The TZ8 and TZ10 were released at the same time, the newer range and the TZ10 just has GPS, has slightly better megapixel and a slightly bigger screen but costs more. I also heard that the GPS takes up battery life but you can turn it off.
