Don't bother
This was given to me as a gift, and I really would have chosen a different brand had I bought it myself. The pictures weren't bad and the camera is easy enough to use, but I've had nothing but problems trying to download the photos from the camera to my computer -- and I work with technology all the time, so it's not like I'm clueless!
It doesn't work on a Mac at all, so if you only have a Mac you can't use this camera. It did work on my PC for a little while, but when I had to upgrade my PC, the CD they gave me will not reinstall the camera on my computer. Samsung does not offer any sort of downloadable drivers from their site, which is a real pain. Their customer service is horrible. I spent 45 mins on their live chat and the end result was "plug it into another PC and see if it works." I have no other issues with other CDs, DVDs or removable UBS drives on this PC, so it is definitely the camera.
Also, you have to use Samsung's rechargeable batteries. If you travel overseas, you know what a pain it is to have to use plug adapters to recharge batteries. My international adapters don't work half the time, so twice I've been overseas and not able to take pictures because the batteries wore out.
In a nutshell, I now have a camera that won't download pictures to my PC, nowhere to go to get the drivers, and I get no where with their customer service. The phone number on the user's manual is actually disconnected. I should have exchanged this for another brand when it was initially given to me.

Great value!
I have had great luck with this camera. I love it. I have used it for better than a year now. I do wish that photos could be taken more quickly without the lag time for the flash to recharge, and have struggled with turing out a good photo in low light situations despite what I have tried. BUT I only paid $200.00 and for that price it has exceeded my expectations. In most situations, photo quality is great. Recently I took some photographs of my children in the sepia mode and framed them. My brother wanted to know which local photographer took them. We'll thank the camera and Costco developing for that... Kudos to this camera!

Great Camera
I don't have much to add to what others have written, but I have dropped this camera quite a few times, and aside from a few minor scratches on the case, no harm was done. Highly recommended!

Nice photos, but lots of battery problems.
When I first bought this camera (for $300) I was happy with it. The macro feature was fantastic, although in low light the performance was not as good. Unfortunately, the shutter lag on this camera was terrible, making any sort of action shot nearly impossible. However, for the low price, I thought the quality of the photos was decent.
Then, about a year and a half after I bought it, the camera starting giving a "low battery" warning and shutting off after only about 5 photos, with brand new charged batteries. I called Samsung and they tried to convince me that it was a high power device and that 5 photos was "normal" performance. I disagreed and persisted with my complaints and eventually they replaced the camera as it was still under warranty.
The replacement camera worked fine for about two years, and then started having the exact same problem as the first one. Brand new batteries resulted in a low battery warning after only a few photos. I was a little disappointed to get only 3 years use out of the camera, but I supposed for the price it was an OK deal.
I upgraded to a Canon A590 that only cost $119 and it is leaps and bounds better. Technological advances are awesome.

Consider a Sony Cybershot for the money you will spend on this one!
I bought this camera thinking wow 7 mega pixels. This has been the worse digital camera I have owned yet! The video is absolutely unuseable to say the least. No sound and very poor picture. The quality of the photos is certainly NOT 7 mega pixels in my own opinion. I told my 10 year old she could have this camera for her very own and went and bought myself a Sony 10.1 mega pixel Cybershot, and she comes and gets the Sony when she wants to take a picture or make videos. If you are seriously considering purchasing the Samsung, please by all means reconsider!!! You would love the Sony 10.1 mp Cybershot and the video quality is just as good as a camcorder! Don't waste your money on this Samsung camera!

GREAT BUY! UPDATE!! GO TO SEARS.COM TO GET FOR $129 DEAL!!!
I got this camera (red) as a black friday/cyber monday deal [...] and I am completely impressed about the quality of pictures. I have a [...] kodak and I have been looking for a good point and shoot to replace/supplement it. The screen is big, the lcd screen shows a crisp view of the pic with very clear and deep colors. The extra features are really nice too. I'm still exploring them, but, I heard a song on the mp3 mode, the world map/tour thing is really interesting; gives you attraction sites in multiple places around the world, and the video/movie mode looks really really good too. My requirements for a new camera were, at least a 3" lcd, compact size, and good pics. I also tested a Nikon (s52)which was more expensive, had less features and more importantly the pictures were so grainy compared to this one; it was a huge difference. So huge that I realized what a good deal I had gotten and quickly got back online and ordered another one of these for a gift. I'll update after more experience but, just wanted to let people know this is a very good option.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA YOU WILL REGRET IT FOR YEARS!!!!!!!
This is the WORST PRODUCT with the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! I only gave it one star because I had to, but it does not deserve ANY!!!!! I bought this camera last November and have yet to have a camera that works. I have sent it in FOUR times to be fixed and the last time I sent it in (a month ago) I have STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT BACK!!!!! When I asked for a refund, I was refused and they said that they could only send me a black camera (which after a month of waiting they have not sent me). Each time I sent it in to be fixed it was because it stopped taking pictures after recharging the battery. I cannot believe that Samsung has not refunded my money after they convinced me to buy their piece of GARBAGE!!!!!!! How is it that a company can sell a product that doesn't work and not refund your money after a year of CRAPY SERVICE and HEADACHE? I will NEVER buy a Samsung product again!!!!!

No more Samsung anything!
My husband bought the camera from Sear's on 12/1/08 as a Christmas gift to me. I was pleased with it until 12/4/09 when it would not come on. (It has a 1 year warranty) I took it to Sear's on 12/5/09 and the guys in electronics tried to figure out the problem but couldn't. Just got off the phone with Samsung Customer Service and was informed my warranty expired in April 09 even though I had a receipt for 12/1/08. Also it was going to cost a minimum of $50.00 to fix the camera. We will never purchase another Samsung product again.

battery life unacceptable
We bought this camera for my daughter for Christmas after doing much research. I have been terribly disappointed in the battery life. She has to charge it before every use. I have a Fuji Finepix that I can keep in my purse for months and use it periodically and it holds a charge for months at a time. I called Samsung and asked why the camera would not hold a charge for more than a day at a time and they told me that is normal for this camera and there is no fix for it. Very disappointing. If you buy this camera, plan to charge it daily. What a pain!!

Samsung has hit it Big with this one!
I've been a Samsung Camera lover for a long time. I began with the Digimax S500, then upgraded to Samsung NV3, and now I recently purchased the Samsung i85. I've tried other cameras like the Sony Cybershot DSC S730, but returned it instantly at poor picture quality and lack of image stabilization (Don't be fooled by the SONY brand name, this camera is not good!). Then I bought an Olympus FE-230, and although the picture quality was great and the camera was slim and lightweight, it was too slow at taking pictures for my taste.
After my failed attempts, I bought the Samsung NV3, which is a perfect camera. It takes great pictures, amazing videos with great sound, and you can even hear MP3s on it. After having a successful buy with the Samsun NV3, I decided to upgrade and immediately fell in love with the Samsung i85. This camera has it all. It takes beautiful pictures both inside and outside. It has many features in which you can tweek your camera into taking great pictures despite the horrid conditions outside.
The face recognition function, image stabilization, and ASR function make this camera perfect for portraits and up close and personal pictures. The pictures are so crisp and clear that it makes the worst looking image look beautiful. Videos turn out nice, with great sound quality; however, it is better to take videos in well lit areas. The World Tour guide function seems to be really cool and educational, but I haven't really messed around with that yet.
Moving on, Samsung's i85 is a great camera for those who want great pictures, and don't want to spend too much on a digital camera. Samsung cameras are also very durable and with the internal zoom, you won't have to worry about messing up the lense. Battery life is very good, but I feel that the NV3 has a longer battery life span. The LCD display screen is huge and great for previewing pictures. I do recommend for those who are purchasing this camera to buy it either in silver or black, as they look nicer with time.
Overall, this is a great camera and you'll definitely be content with your purchase!

Shoot. Create. Share. It’s as simple as that. This Digimax camera makes lasting memories for your family. The camera’s 5x digital zoom captures crisp images and can get any party started with numerous flash modes, including a handy red-eye reduction mode. You can also create unique photos using black and white and sepia modes, bringing an added elegance to a romantic shot or an adorable baby picture. Plus, add up to 10 seconds of voice audio to any still image for that extra creative touch.

Good first camera
We bought this camera about 25 months ago and have been mostly happy with it. Money is tight, so the expensive camera's were not an option, and our old digital camera broke. It is fairly easy to use and does movies too. The quality is less than my mom's more expensive camera - but it works fine for us. It is small enough to easily tuck into my purse next to my cell phone. Our only complaint is that the off on button doesn't work very well anymore. We have a paperclip attatched to the string to aid in turning it on and off. It does a reasonalble job with batteries - the cheaper AA's will last about 30 minutes - the ultra ones for electronics will last 6-10 hours depending on what you do with it. I've bought rechargable AA's and used them also - I get about 2 hours with them - overall, we like this camera.

BAD CAMERA
Hello, I bought this camera four years ago as of last week from walmart. It still works just like the day i bought it. Just too bad that that is bad. BAD CAMERA EVERY PIC BLURRY

Not the best
The size is nice and it is fairly simple to use.Although it's not exactly a dinosaur camera, it did not deliver the quality I anticipated. It's a Samsung so I was expecting great performance. A little disappointed.
Rating :
It can take a licking, but it's afraid of the dark.
I just recently purchased a new camera because after three years, my Digimax A402 is on its way out, now. I'm a little sad to see it go because it's been a good little camera for the most part, although it performed poorly in certain low-light situations.
I dropped it on a stone-covered grave in Tombstone, AZ (that was probably about hot enough to fry an egg on at the time) about two years ago at a height of about four or five feet when I nearly fell over a young kid whose parents were allowing to follow me around. Except for a small scratch on the lens it came through the experience functioning just fine.
But now, apparently simply due to age, it's stopped functioning normally. It thinks its batteries are low even when they're fresh, is not adjusting to light, and is taking very blurry pictures.
Still, it took good photos for more than a year (probably closer to two) after being dropped, which is more than I expected in the moments after it actually happened.
Pros: Has a good bit of internal storage, takes nice clear photos, is very compact, is very easy to use, has a landscape mode that takes great outdoor photos, and survived a heck of a fall.
Cons: Was over-priced considering the features (no optical zoom, only a digital zoom, only 4 mega pixels), has a soft LCD screen, flashes three times in any flash-using mode (sounds like no big deal but it can be irritating, especially in my favorite setting - concerts, and drains the batteries), has a looong shutter delay, and does not do well in low light.
MAJOR WARNING about the flash and low-light situations: If you turn off your flash in portrait mode, or use a low-light mode, the shutter delay becomes positively interminable because the shutter speed is slowed, which it does automatically. Because most of the photos I take are at concerts this is totally unacceptable. You have to hold incredibly still to take a photo that isn't severely blurred and your subject can't move for several seconds (I counted a shutter delay of over five seconds.)
Leaving the flash on is often not an option because if you have a crowd in front of you you're going to get a better photo of the back of their heads than of the stage. This became infuriating and is for me probably the camera's biggest drawback. I eventually found a solution to this problem... electrical tape over the flash. The camera functioned much better in concert situations with this little improvement. However, I never found my makeshift solution acceptable. A fast shutter speed (which is sluggish even at its best) in low light should definitely be an option on this particular camera but it is not.
Recomended for: People who need a compact, durable, easy-to-use camera mostly in outdoor situations (where it excels) or indoor situations where a flash is acceptable. A good camera for a family.
NOT recomended for: Anyone who wants to be able to take detailed photos of far-away objects or in dark conditions, or anyone who wants to be able to closely control their camera's settings. Concert and club goers take note: this camera may not be for you.
Rating :
Excellent camera but only for awhile
I bought this camera for Christmas 2005 and at that time it was a great deal for small and good quality pictures (4MP is still pretty decent), but 2 years later the flash stopped working without any reason.

Questions & Answers
Question : Samsung digital camera, what am I doing wrong?
I just bought a samsung ES55 digital camera and I can only seem to store 19 pictures on the actual camera. I don't have a memory card in it but can buy and put one in if needs be. I have reduced the quality of the pics I am taking and put everything that could take up memory to the lowest possible setting. Is this normal because I can't believe for an £80 camera you would only store 19 pics???? Does this mean a memory card is essential for use?
Answer:
You're not doing anything wrong. The internal memory is very small.Yes you'll want / need a memory card. It will store far more than the internal.By the way, read your owner's manual to learn what size and style of card you need and your camera will support before you go buy.

Question : Help! My Samsung digital camera won't open its shutter or turn on. I tried to recharge battery but not work!?
I have a Samsung SL202 intelligent LCD digital camera which I love. Few days back I got a low battery message then it shut down. I used my USB cable to recharge the Li-ion battery, but it is not recharging. I have taken the battery out and put it back in, jiggled the chords, etc. What am I missing???? I am quite frustrated. Any help or thoughts greatly appreciated.
Answer:
Maybe the battery is done for. Batteries don't have eternal life nor can sleep for eaons. No they are chemical little storage cans that will lose their ability to hold energy slowly. After harsh use or a certain time, a few years that is, the rechargable battery is unable to hold charge. So what to do? Buy a new battery, available on your online and local photo stores :)Remember batteries are chemical waste!

Question : What is the indication that my samsung digital camera is charged ?
what is the indication that my samsung digital camera is charged ?
Answer:
It depends on your camera. But usually there's a bar - similar to those on cell phones - that show how full the battery is. That bar gets shorter as the battery drains. Always good to keep the battery charged by the time it gets to the 1/2-1/3 mark in case a great shooting oppty comes up and you don't have a couple hours to charge.I always carry a spare charged battery (and extra memory cd) with me too...
|
Question : Change image size on samsung bl103 digital camera?
I just got a samsung camera and when taking pictures they come out HUGE...How do I change the setting so the pictures take a little smaller?
Answer:
NO, no, no, no, no - don't EVER do that!!!You should never EVER set your camera to anything less than best quality (i.e. lowest compression rate) and biggest size (highest resolution). The reasons for that include:1) If you have a good, large photo, you can crop it more later on without losing too much detail if you really have to.2) If you happen to take the best photo you ever took, you'll be able to print it at a large size. If you lowered size and quality, you'd be kicking yourself.3) If you decide later you really don't want to keep a big file, it is very easy to down-size it in post processing - but you can't go the other way, you can't invent pixels that weren't there in the first place.4) Memory cards are cheap, so are bigger hard drives. There is NO reason to do anything less than the best.

Question : I have a samsung digital camera and the lcd screen is cracked where can i get it fixed and for how much?
the camera is only 2 weeks old and the make of it is samsung digimax A503 with a 2" lcd screen.
Answer:
fly to japan, have a great time, take an ordinary camera you are sure of. good luck. I hate didgital cameras, they do not photo correctly. If you look close, you will see. Cannot beat an ordinary point and shoot, mind you, you have to have a mind behind the eye.

Question : how long do samsung digital camera batteries last?
i just bought a samsung digital camera today at circuit city, and just after a while its battery power became very low. i tried to change batteries, but the other ones don't work. i keep trying to figure out how the battery became so low when i just bought it today! and sometimes when i was taking pictures to test it out, it would just shut off or turn on itself. does anyone know why?
Answer:
When you buy a new camera, mobile phone or something like that, you have to charge it for 4-5 hours. Then you must use it.There are different batteries. "AAA" or "AA" and so on. The little one is "AAA". pay attention to it.And try to use rechargebale batteries. Yeah, they are more expensive than others, but it will last nearly 2-3 year. (you have to give it energy day-by-day)And dont forget, if there appears any problem, You may contact to "shop sale or technic manager".
