Take stunning shots in a variety of conditions. This 8.1 megapixel Cyber-shot digital camera features an Intelligent Scene mode which automatically selects the right settings for your environment. Smile Shutter technology is also included, letting you instantly capture smiles the moment they happen. A 2.7 LCD, Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lens and Sony's Double Anti-Blur solution are also there for crisp, clear images and tight zooms. All this combined with an attractive body make the W150 an excellent choice for capturing the moment no matter where you are.

Decent Camera but too Fragile
The Sony DSC-W150 is a point and shoot digital camera with a lot of features and mostly takes good pictures. It has a great zoom function and it is easy to get mostly good shots, especially in good lighting. There are times, however, that it takes grainy shots and I find it very hit or miss at night. Sometimes the flash works well and other times you get dark or grainy pictures.
The main problem with this camera, however, is it is way too fragile. Even a light bump has made the shutter get stuck several times. And it fell once and broke. It didn't fall hard mind you, and shoot and click cameras are going to get some wear and tear.
For the price and drawbacks, I would not recommend this camera.

This an average plus camera...Does ok but nothing great like a Canon
Sony does everything great except camera shots....I will say to leave it to the big boys like Canon or Nikon....This camera is good but not great...I will comparae it to a low calorie beer which is water down and less tasteful....Get the non calorie beer, trust me.

Possible fix for the black screen after the lens quits...
I loved my Sony until just over a year into it when the thing kicked it. My sister in law had the same problem with hers and it seems many others have had this problem. The lens goes in and out and in and out and then you get a black screen on the lcd that says "turn power off" or some such thing....and you're done. You can call customer support who will give you stupid solutions and then refer you to customer service who might blow you off...like they did me...or you can do what my dad did. He blew 90lbs of air pressure from the air compressor at the lens while he repeatedly turned it on and off....after several runs it finally started working again. I figured I'd throw this out there..if you are desperate like I was (wasn't sending in the thing for $130 to have it looked at) then it's worth a shot. Good luck!

Can get better for the money
I got this as a gift, and although I've been using it for more than a year, I still don't like it. The delay on it is horrendous -- I know that for a point-and-shoot camera there will always be a delay, but this is the longest one I've ever encountered. And it doesn't matter how the settings are adusted -- it's always a few seconds delay, which means 75% of the time I miss whatever it was I was trying to capture in a picture. Also, this camera has no option at all for a time/date stamp. When I called Sony and asked about this, the gentleman I spoke with said they took it away because their customers don't like that feature. Well, I do. I don't think it would have been at all difficult for them to add that function with the option to hide it if it's not wanted, like most cameras, even cheap ones, do. Finally, picture quality. Almost half the time the pictures are just slightly blurry. Not too noticeable at a quick glance, but if you are looking longer or trying to edit the pictures for any reason, it becomes evident. Although Sony usually has good products, I would not recommend this one. I keep hoping it will break so I have an excuse to get a new one that I like better!

Sony Cybershot DSCW150
I purchased this camera to replace an identical one that I broke while on a trip. This is the last ultra compact camera made with an optical viewfinder and that is why I purchased it. In addition to the optical viewfinder it has a 5X optical telephoto lens and all the other bells and whistles needed to take pictures in varying light, etc. I had the same camera for 3 years before breaking it and found it an outstanding value. Most important, however, is the optical view finder which is much easier and more satsifying to use than the screen viewfinders. The only downside of this camera is that the image stabilization is not quite as good as the newer units; however, that is not a major drawback in taking still pictures. Battery life is fairly good and the provided battery charger is small enough that it is not a burden to take on a trip.
All-in-all, a thouroughly worthwhile camera at an excellent price.

Do NOT buy this camera .. please, I beg you.
I had a Sony Mavica 400 and it worked beautifully for 4 years. I never, ever had a problem with it, and it went everywhere with me. I took around 8,000 photos with it and it was wonderful. But then it was stolen from around my neck by a gang of thugs in St Petersburg, Russia in 2005.
The insurance company replaced the 400 with this model, the MVCCD500, which I was very excited about getting - the next-generation model, with improved picture quality and more megapixels. How wrong I was to be excited.
This piece of junk lasted a total of 6 months before it suddenly stopped doing what it was meant to do. It suddenly and without warning wasn't able to access a disc that hadn't been finalised, and after changing batteries it wasn't able to access the disc. To top this off, it also now can't write any photo taken on 5 megapixels - all I get is a 'Disc Error' everytime I take a 5 megapixel photo. I now have to finalise the disc when the battery gets low, and I have to be very, very careful the back door (where the CD-R goes in) and the battery door don't open .
I relocated to the UK soon after getting this camera, and Sony UK refused to honour the 'Worldwide Warranty', even though I had the receipt and the warranty with me. As the camera came from Australia, Sony refused to even deal with me - they told me I had to talk to Sony Australia ... on the other side of the planet, and then asked me to leave their premises!
I am now struggling to take ANY photos with this thing. It is now out of warranty, only takes 1 in 3 photos properly (none in 5 megapixels), and to top it all off, the 8cm CD-R's are next to impossible to buy outside the USA. And you can't even mail-order them from the US - no shop will sell them overseas. Sony couldn't even help me to locate a supplier of the CD-R's in the UK, even when they featured the Sony CD-R's on the Sony UK web site. In response to my enquiry regarding the discs, I was told they couldn't help me and suggested I do a search on an internet search engine for them. (Gee Sony, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the help.) I eventually found one shop in central London that sells them. When this shop stops selling them, the camera will be a useless paperweight.
If you are stupid enough to buy this camera, expect it to stop working within a year of buying it, and expect zero support from Sony. In fact, just expect abuse from Sony when it stops working.
I have just bought a Nikon D80, and am thrilled with the brilliance of this camera. Buy a digital camera from a manufacturer of real cameras, not a company that produces junk. Obviously Sony have given up on this technology, and tough luck if you were fooled into buying it. My assumption is they are no longer supporting the Mavica technology and refuse to have anything to do with any customer that owns one.

Graphics Designer/Photographer
I'm a happy camper. I purchased my SONY MAVICA MVC-CD500 digital camera in 2002 when it was first marketed. As of this writing it's 2007 and I use it almost daily in my work. It's been a great workhorse. It plugs directly into iPhoto on my Mac - transferring images is quick and seamless.
I've not experienced any of the problems other reviewers have mentioned. I suppose, like with ANY product, the occasional lemon comes off the line. My camera has given me years of perfect performance!
I don't use all the features: For instance - if I want sepia tone photos or special effects I take them into PhotoShop and work there. The photos I get from the CD-500 are crisp, clear and high resolution so it makes editing them a breeze.
This reviewer gives the CD-500 two thumbs up. It's the best digital camera I've used.

My $800 camera only worked for a couple years!
It was great, while it lasted. Although it's too heavy to take on every trip and take those impulsive candid shots. It fits in my diaper bag, but not my purse. About 6 months ago (after 18 months of ownership) we started having trouble getting it to turn on. My husband figured out a "trick" to turn it on (push down on the button while pushing the lever), which worked for a month or so. Then suddenly, the problem disappeared. Yippee! Now, with Christmas less than a month away, it WON'T TURN ON AT ALL!!! I cannot explain how furious I am. It's not like I can send it for repair and have it back by the holidays. My other complaint is with the batteries. Over time, they last less and less..... and take longer and longer to charge up. You will definitely need more than 2 batteries after a while. My next camera will NOT be a Sony. IT's not like we were rough with it; we treated that thing with more care than the baby... and it still busted. grrrr.....

Least Expensive Media in Digital Cameras - Great
The Sony Mavica series started it all with the Floppy disk Cameras ( that are still the most popular camera for internet pictures.) Starting with the Mavica MVC CD1000 20X Zoom Sony did it again.. Mini Compact disks, the CD1000 could only use read only disks - CD-Rs. With the CD200 Sony set real lead in Media with a camera that uses CD-R and rewriteable CD-RW disks. General Cost 50 cents for a CD-R and $2 bucks for a rewriteable CD-RW. Using the Small ring in CDrom drives the mini CDs work just like a normal full sized CD. Capacity from 150 to 220 Megabits, or 200 to 2500 pictures depending on your selected resolution for each picture. With all the newer operating systems XP ect the Camera Scanner wizards and viewers make it Childs play to download pictures and look at them. The camera is easy to use, anyone can pick it up and soon be taking digital pictures. The entire series of Mavica MVC CDs are great.. with the CD500 at 5 megapixels with upgraded Lazers and CCDs is the top of the line.

Lots of problems
I have had a Sony Mavica for the past two years and I have been having a lot of problems with it. In fact I just got it back today from the service department in Tx and it still doesn't work. The screen went blank one day, just wouldn't show photos on the LCD. I sent it into Sony free of charge and a new LCD was placed in the camera. When I got the camera back there was a distinct color shift. The colors look correct on the LCD, but on all other devices my photos are magenta instead of red, which make my kids look purple. I can color correct in Photo Shop, but for a $500.00 camera it is turning out to be a real boat anchore. Save your money, buy anything but Sony. The second round of service cost me a whopping $223.00. Which now makes my boat anchore worth $723.00.

Sony Cybershot Digital Camera
Fantastic product, but even more fantastic was the vendor's customer service. I highly recommend both the product and the vendor. Even in spite of a miscommunication which I think may have been my fault, they were quick and very professional.

Nice Camera, but breaks easily
This was a nice camara until it reached 2 years of use. An error message came up, focus seems broke down. Camara was not dropped or anything. I searched online, and found a lot people having same problem, some saying by hitting the side of it might get rid of the error message, but it didn't work for me. Don't buy if you looking for something that you can use for a longer time period.

Don't Do It!
I have had this camera for a year an a half. In that time it has taken many photos for me, most of them good, the rest blurry or overexposed. (blurry even when using the stabilizer. It's a big problem). My main problem with this quarrel is that about a year ago, a little bump caused some screws to come out of the camera and then the casing actually began to separate. Now, Sony took it back under warranty, fixed it, and returned it. A couple months later, a couple other screws went missing for no apparent reason. Again, sent back, returned fixed. Now, it's started doing this really annoying vibrating thing sometimes when I'm trying to take photos, which causes them to come out very, very blurry. I have no idea why it does this, and am currently shopping for a new camera. I heard the newer Cybershots are better, but am cautious to buy Sony again because this experience was so bad. I shouldn't need to buy a new camera after having this one for less than a year and a half, even less when considering it spent about two months of that being repaired. Oh, another thing, the flipdoor will come open in your pocket or purse, and waste battery. Luckily, the battery life is good, but it's still irritating and can't be good for the camera.
Don't do it, find another camera.

Dissapointing
Hi,
Ok, so the camera was AMAZING the first two days until I dropped it into the toilet in its case. Now, obviosuly this is my fault. It dried out and I brought it in to a camera specialist who said it was fine but I feel the pictures were not as clear. So now it is just sitting here on my desk and I can't use my $400 camera. But the camera was great...i don't recommend buying this porduct online. You can't send it or take it back.

Great Product
This is my first digital camera & I have been using it for over one year. I use it for both my business & vacations. It is very easy to use (especially for beginers). It is also great because there is never any film to develop (for those of us who forget to drop it off or pick it up). It has some wonderful features like color or black & white, the buttons are easy to use & the instructions are great. The viewfinder on the back is very clear & choice of image size is great. In addition to the camera I would purchase a tripod and an additional memory stick (128MB is a great price at amazon.com). If it is still available the starter pack with case, battery charger, etc... is also a good choice.

Decent camera... has its drawbacks...
Sony has just about infiltrated every electronic marketplace possible and the digital camera sector is no exception. When I was researching to buy a camera, it came down to the Canon A40 vs. the Sony DSC P71. I went with the Sony because it was smaller and I didn't want to carry around the larger Canon. I wonder now if I made a mistake as Canon cameras are constantly being raved about.
The P71 being my first digital camera it would be unfair to say I was disappointed. It has a decent zoom 3x Optical and 2x digital. The form factor of the camera is a huge plus. It's very small and light and easy to carry in a jacket pocket. The LCD is 1.5" more than large enough to see images clearly. The 3.2 megapixels has allowed me to develop beautiful, clear 5 x 7 photos. Even the 8 x 10 pictures come out very well. The strength of Sony digital cameras lies in taking outdoor pictures. The colors in natural sunlight are vibrant and clear. The pictures taken outdoors always come out beautiful - especially in areas where flowers, trees, and grass are present. I have seen very few digital cameras that take nicer outdoor pictures than the Sony P71. The navigation is very intuitive even if the buttons are a little small. Sometimes I find it hard to find the center "ok" button - I often accidentally slip my finger to the right or left. When going through pictures taken already, the preview images render very quickly on the LCD. The camera offer a plethora of options for shutter speed, contrasting, picture quality and resolution, as well as view. Battery life is good. I can go through a 64 MB memory stick at high resolution on one set of batteries (and flash). Sony also provides a free set(2) of rechargeable batteries and a charger with this camera. This is a very very nice addition and accessory for this price. I bought an extra set of rechargeable batteries to keep as a spare (one set always charges while the other set is being used). Also provided is a USB cable to hook up to your computer to download images. This is an extremely easy set up with Windows XP - just plug the USB cable into your computer and camera and XP automatically recognizes your new hardware. You don't need to install the provided software if your computer already has a default picuture viewer. Now the reasons this camera received just 3 stars: 1) Remember how I mentioned that this camera takes great outdoor pictures? Well as great as the outdoor pictures are, the indoor pictures are as equally horrible. I don't know if it's the flash or Sony's interpretation of artificial light, but every single indoor picture is dark with an orange tint. They are clear, but the coloring is always off. It's like I'm looking at pictures through sunglasses. 2) I wish Sony would have configured this camera to leave the flash on when I turn it on. The default setting for the flash is always "off" so when you turn the flash on and the camera is idle for a minute, it turns itself off and sets the flash to the off position. This wouldn't be annoying if it didn't take the camera so long to re-initiate the flash. It takes a good 5-7 seconds to re-initiate. Furthermore, what would make most sense would be if the camera just sensed when the flash was needed and turned it on itself. That's what most cameras do. So there you have it - a layman's review of the Sony P71. I'm not a hobbyist or a professional photographer, I just use the camera for fun to basically record memories. The Sony P71 is an decent camera. If you take a lot of indoor pictures, stay away from it, otherwise, it will serve its purpose.

Nice camera but...
I have had this camera for about 2 years. It's been great all the way. But recently one of my friends dropped it. The lens is having a hard time retracting back into the camera, and the LCD screen only works sometimes. It does power on and off though. I was wondering if anyone had experience in this field and could tell me if it was simply broken for good or if it could be repaired some way. If you could email me at lafever5@hotmail.com or post a review I would appreciate it.

Great camera..
This is my latest camera and I'm using it for web purposes. The picture quality is great and the zoom is also very useful. What I love about this camera? Fast when taking a new picture, great flash option. What I don't like is the noise that the camera does when you start it and the zoom moves in and out, so you can't take pictures without somebody notices you.

Question : How do you go to the trash bin in a Sony digital camera?
It's a sony Cyber-shot DSC-W120 digital camera. I Deleted the pictures by accident andI really want to get them back. Thanks
Answer:
You are thinking that your camera works like your computer, sorry but it does not, once you have deleted them then under all normal circumstances you have lost them. If you have not taken other photographs since you deleted them so that they have not been overwritten you can contact a specialist company who deal in data recovery. There may be software you can purchase that will do the same job, how effective it is I have no idea. You will have to do a search of the internet to locate it. Whichever way it will probably cost you, so it depends how important these photos are.Regards.

i need help... if anybody has any info i would appreciate the help. Its a sony digital camera model dsc h20 and i want to offload my pictures onto my mac. thanks in advance for your help!
Answer:
Well, the camera surely came with a USB cable for that very purpose, so find it, and plug one end into the camera and then plug the other end into the back of your Mac and iPhoto will open and download the photos for you.If you don't have the cable, you'll have to get one, probably on eBay or somewhere like that. Just do an online search for "USB cable sony dsc h20" and you'll surely find one.Good luck!... ☺

Question : Which is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera ?
I'm panning to buy a good digital camera and i'm wondering which is better a sony digital camera or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest ?
Answer:
Sony tends to be lower end. They're limited on lenses and feel cheap. Sony has been making SLRs since 2006 and Canon since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?

Question : Will any Sony digital camera body work with the older Minolta Rokkor lenses?
I have many good Minolta Rokkor lenses I've used on several Minolta SRT camera bodies. I understand that Sony bought Minolta so will any of the Sony digital bodies fit the Rokkors (like the older Pentax lenses do with current Pentax digitals)?
Answer:
There is an adapter but its hard to find although a visit to the Sony web site might be helpful. Other than that just keep checking on eBay. Unfortunately, when Minolta introduced the Maxxum 7000 AF camera in 1985 they changed their lens mount. Sony now uses the A-mount so any Maxxum AF lens will work just fine on a Sony DSLR.
