Don't even think of buying a sony camera

This camera ceased to function after only 6 months of usage or I should say it makes a great vibrator since that is all it does now. It was difficult to figure out how to use and I never quite learned it well but my daughter eventually figured out how to use most features. The camera is not easily connected to a computer because Sony wishes to sell you their proprietary plugs in order to make more money. The camera designs is very nice but it has its faults. The leather case needs to be unscrewed from the bottom before to can put it on its additional cradle to charge. Many people on the net have complained about these sony cameras that just start vibrating without stopping as soon as you turn it on or open the lens. Sony refuses to fix my camera even though it is less than a year old because I do not have a receipt even though they recaled the DSC-t20. The problem with the camera line is that the focus motor is defective and it will start vibrating eventually (usually after 6 months). Buy a Canon camera instead.

I deserve better...

This thing doesn't worth the money...i bought it like 2 years ago, and every time i used it i get frustrated with the pics and videos.......it hadn't had a year of use when it started to shake and ruined almost every pic i took ... next time i'll go for a cannon / nikon ...

My camera should NOT vibrate like a cell phone!

I bought this camera and was pleased with the Sony name and good Amazon reviews. This weekend, when taking photos, the camera started vibrating...just like a cell phone. First, I was incredulous. I've never seen a camera behave in this manner. I removed the battery and reinstalled; the problem continued. Photos were impossible to take as the picture on the screen was also vibrating and it was impossible to hold the camera still.

I contacted Sony after doing research on the web and learning this had been a major issue with the DSC T20 models which Sony will still repair, free of charge, until July 2011. Contacting Customer service, via email, was NO HELP whatsoever. They offered enlightening advice like, "Hold the camera with two hands.!!!!" I finally tried live chat and had no better luck. I was told this issue has never been reported so there will be no assistance from Sony.

If earlier cameras in the cybershot world had this issue, I'm not surprised to find it in a later model. I will continue to contact Sony in my attempts to have them address this issue. Our daughter in law owns the same camera and has had THE SAME ISSUE. Camera vibration is the result of a design flaw Sony will not currently admit exists!

For that reason, I suggest STAYING AWAY from this camera.

I Love This Camera!

My daughter-in-law has the DSC T-300 so I thought I would get an even better camera by buying the more expensive upgrade Cybershot at a retail store, but I didn't like it! I returned it and had to pay a $60.00 re-stocking fee! That's ok, I knew then what I wanted... the T300! This is the one you should get too - the Cybershot Super Steady-Shot DSC T-300! It has all the features you could ever want! It is easy to use, it takes great pictures, it has lots of editing features...some are really fun. If you look around on line you can get a super deal! I only paid $235.00 for mine and I even got the warranty! The box was kind of bent but everything inside was perfect and it had a 14 day return. I am keeping it :) VERY HAPPY

A quick view

I had this camera for about a year before someone stole it. I have a Canon powershot now which I like but there are times when I miss this, the better camera and I'll try to explain why it was more desirable.

I may try and compare this with my Canon PowerShot SD780IS.
PROS -

1) Great design, the mechanism for switching the camera on is beautiful. The LCD screen is placed most unobtrusively and also the buttons and controls were splendid.
2) Battery life was about 200 pictures before you'd need a recharge
3) The camera could sit on a desktop since the bottom was very good and the mechanism to remove the battery was also unique in it's own sense
4) **IMPORTANT DEAL MAKER FEATURE** Though a little bigger than my present Canon, the brightness in dim images is something I miss. This camera has a great ability to take warm, vibrant crisp shots in not so bright locations.
Note: If you are looking to take a picture in poor light, hold the camera steady for about 2 seconds before you hit click.
5) The quality of images overall were much less grainy than the 12.1 megapixel Canon.
6) The LCD screen is huge, the controls are amazing, not once did I ever receive a lag, the menu is more INTUITIVE and BETTER PLACED than the Canon

CONS -
The one bad thing about this camera is that while it costs a considerable sum compared to the other digital cameras, it only had an inbuilt space of 16mb. Now I understand that the Canon doesn't have any inbuilt memory but if you're going to give me a camera and include just 16mb inbuilt memory, I can't help but cry foul. The zoom could have been slightly more efficient.

As you can see, I struggled finding cons for this product and therefore strongly endorse it.

I might invest in a similar / updated model of a Sony Cybershot in the future. The SLR still seems way too big for me to carry around and I'd feel odd cause I'm not even a great snapper.

**UPDATE 08/03/2010** I found my camera, I'm soooo happy!

I love this camera.

Its been two years since I bought this camera and even today it works so perfect that I do not feel the necessity in purchasing another one. The picture clarity is perfect and also the pictures taken in the dark also come out so nice. I love this camera. The video recording is not of that good quality when compared to a HD cam but its nice. The LCD panel is also nice which helps me to see the pictures which I take with full quality. Its the best cam for me and most important its worth the price paid for. I would recommend this camera even today to anyone.

Sony just can't get past the Betamax thing....

The camera works fine, but is it any better than the several dozen competitors in this price range? Is it so much better that customers should have to put up with the Sony proprietary memory card and USB cables? My daughter promptly lost the cable....no biggie, surely one of our other dozen USB cables we have here would work....only took a moment to see that the camera connector is totally unique and no where near any kind of industry standard. And Sony wants $35+ for a replacement cable. Best deal here on Amazon is $20. All other USB cables (standard connectors) are way less than $15. and of course, can't just pop out the memory card and plug it into my laptop reader....nope, it's proprietary as well. gee, thanx for that.
Why does Sony insist on steadfastly refusing to use any industry standards? Makes ya think that maybe the Sony engineers and management are still a bit miffed at loosing the Beta/VHS battles back in the 80's.....come on Sony - get over it and quit taking your customers for a ride with your proprietary, but no better than any other manufacturer's, connectors and memory cards.

Because of Sony's obvious arrogance and contempt for their customers, I will never buy another Sony product, nor recommend one.

black spots

I loved this camera until after the 2nd year of use I have black spots on my shots. Very poor longevity. I've seen other people with camera having the same problems. Not bad if you want black spots in all you pictures.

Worked fine for about a year

This camera took great pictures and video and was great for what I wanted, but now for some odd reason when i turn it on the lens goes in and out about 3 times then the lcd display says "turn camera off and on again" I cant get it to go back to normal no matter how many times i have turned it on and off. Many people with the same problem seem to be able to fix this by banging on it because this is usually caused by dust getting stuck in the lens, i tried everything and still can not get it to work. So now i have a useless camera. Not happy.

Great quality photos, easy to use

We had always purchased Olympus digital cameras, and when our last Olympus failed to impress, we decided to try the Sony. It has been a great camera, takes excellent photos, and has given us no hassles. Like any small digital, in very low light you must hold the camera very still, but it has been better than the Olympus cameras we've had in the past. Syncing to the Mac is very quick and easy, and charging is simple as well. No complaints!

Great Camera!

The Cybershot DSCW90 has always been perfect for photo taking.

I purchased it as a replacement(lost). The first was great and I really enjoy this one as well. It handles in your hand with ease and controls are easy to adjust. The ISO up to 3200 is a valuable assset for this small camera.

This camera has a viewfinder unlike the newer ones. It has built in red eye reduction. An overall super camera. You would not be disappointed in the prints.

Great for stills but not action shots

Don't let my title fool you - I love this camera. It takes wonderful still pictures that come out clear and beautiful. But whenever I attempt to take a night picture without flash or of a moving object, they come out blurry. I have tried using the different settings but I still can not get the pictures to come out in focus. The battery last a very, very long time and extremely user friendly in regards to menu features and uploading to PC.

Poor shooting quality

Night shots turn out very bad quality. Regular photos sometimes are blurry. Otherwise operates ok.

Customer Review :

I wouldn't recommend it.

I've owned this camera for about three years. I am always pleased with how fast it takes the pictures in the daytime without flash, and how well. But at night, as other people have complained, I have experienced white spots, but only on a few. Other than that what I really hate about the flash is that it takes SO LONG to actually take the picture!!! If you are taking a picture at night of something going by you, by the time you press the flash and it takes 5 seconds to actually take the picture, the object is gone and you missed the shot. I HATE that about this camera. The size and design are cool because it fits in your pocket, but that's not a reason to buy it. Pick a different camera.

Great little camera!

I think this camera is great!
It just amazes me how people bad mouth things that are not perfect.
I got a great deal for $179.99 at Officemax back in August 2007.

Pros:
Perfect compact size, and takes great pictures. I take it everywhere
Great price!
Everyone I show my pictures too always says, wow you camera takes good pictures".
Easy to use!
Flip the door down to turn on is very cool.

Cons:
I do notice the white spots every now and then, but it is not all the time.
And yes it has a monsterous all in one chord, but so what?
And no one likes the red-eye reduction mode everyone says they go blind from it,
so I had to turn it off. and now all my pics have red eye.

So do not listen to all the bad reviews here, this is a great little camera.
I am very happy with my purchase.

DO NOT BUY!!!

I REPEAT!!!...do not buy this camera..or any other sony camera for that matter....Many people, including myself, have experienced a very simple but devastating problem with it. IT WILL NOT TURN ON. The battery is fully charged and nothing. I tested the battery in another camera and it worked fine so the problem is with the camera. And by the way, i find it kind of funny how everybody that i have spoken to who has this problem mentioned that it didn't happen until after the 1 year warranty had expired. Save yourself the heartache that you will experience in little over a year and stay away from Sony!!

Question : Looking for a good sony digital camera?
I'm wanting a good digital camera, but not something that would cost a million dollars. It can be other brands but I would prefer sony... So I'm looking for a camera that isn't bulky... but I guess most digital camera's aren't. I'd like a good picture quality as in... no random white dots if the lighting source isn't good, or anything like that. Fairly quick picture taking would be lovely... and if the camera's limit is only limited to the memory cards' limit. Also being able to record clips... if there could be some sound. I was looking at some of the lower grades of sony camera and I noticed recording doesn't have sound. And again, I'd prefer sony, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

Answer:
Since you prefer Sony, here are two pretty well reviewed models of Sony that meet up to your requirements. Both have fast response times and they both take video with audio. One is the Sony N2 Here is a link with info and review :http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/n2.htmlSecond is the Sony T100Here is a link with info and review :http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/sony_t100.htmlPersonally I would go for the N2 because of its larger sensor but then thats a personal preference because on the other hand, the T100 is VERY compact. Here is a link to a site where you can compare image and video quality :http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=1&ma1=32&mo1=&p1=2049&ma2=31&mo2=&p2=1450&ph=5Good luck!

Question : how do i offload pictures from a Dsc h20 sony digital camera onto a mac?
i need help... if anybody has any info i would appreciate the help. Its a sony digital camera model dsc h20 and i want to offload my pictures onto my mac. thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:
Well, the camera surely came with a USB cable for that very purpose, so find it, and plug one end into the camera and then plug the other end into the back of your Mac and iPhoto will open and download the photos for you.If you don't have the cable, you'll have to get one, probably on eBay or somewhere like that. Just do an online search for "USB cable sony dsc h20" and you'll surely find one.Good luck!... ☺

Question : Video from Sony digital camera has watermark on it?
I have a Sony DSC-w290 digital camera. I filmed a short video clip and, when I put the file on my computer, it has a huge watermark right in the middle saying "evaluation copy." It doesn't show up when I view the video on the camera, just on the computer. I ran it thorugh a couple different converters and video players, but it was still there. How do I get rid of it?

Answer:
You pay for the software and the watermark is removed.

Question : What happens if you loose your Sony digital camera uploader cord?
I have a sony digital camera. I lost the cord that uploads all of your pictures onto your computer. Would they sell them separately at the store? Is there another way to upload them using a different cord?

Answer:
You can find one on e-bay. A friend at work paid $1 for a camera usb cable. You can also get a usb card reader for very cheap at any electronics store.

Question : What is the estimated useful life of a Sony digital camera?
anyone know the expected useful life of a sony digital camera? filling out a fixed assets form..

Answer:
There must be a table for this somewhere. I'd expect it to become "obsolete" after 3 years, even though it is still functioning. If you plan on buying a new one in 3 years, I'd call the useful life 3 years.I'd expect it to need repair or replacement in 5-to-7 years, though, if you don't drop the thing. You don't say which camera, but most entry-level DSLR's seem to have a shutter rated at 50,000 cycles, so any point and shoot would be at that level or lower, I am sure. How many pictures do you take per year? Divide that into 50,000 for a maximum life span and I think it would be 100% defensible on audit.

Question : Will any Sony digital camera body work with the older Minolta Rokkor lenses?
I have many good Minolta Rokkor lenses I've used on several Minolta SRT camera bodies. I understand that Sony bought Minolta so will any of the Sony digital bodies fit the Rokkors (like the older Pentax lenses do with current Pentax digitals)?

Answer:
There is an adapter but its hard to find although a visit to the Sony web site might be helpful. Other than that just keep checking on eBay. Unfortunately, when Minolta introduced the Maxxum 7000 AF camera in 1985 they changed their lens mount. Sony now uses the A-mount so any Maxxum AF lens will work just fine on a Sony DSLR.
