Big results from a little camera
When shopping for a camera to replace my Sony Mavica CD camera, my friend suggested the DSC P200. When I first saw it I was not too impressed. Oh, no, I thought, not some cheap 'point and shoot'. My friend knew that I did some serious photograpy, actually pursuing a commercial art course at a local community college. I had used his Nikon D-70 professional digital SLR for classes, but knew that a good SLR was way out of my price range. Since I have a lot of respect for my friend, who produces claymation movies, I decided to give the camera a try. WOW! This is one outstanding camera. Amazingly, it manages to incorporate most of the features of a much more expensive camera, into a size that actually qualifies as a 'shirt pocket' camera. With 7.1 mp, and a 3x Carl Zeiss zoom lens, ( equal to a 38-114 mm 35mm lens) the camera is capable of producing an impressive image. It has all the functions of an SLR, such as full auto, program and manual modes. It also has 6 image sizes, including 640x480 for email and webpage. Okay, I could go on and on, and don't get me started on how great the video is. Just accept that I use it to make videos that I post on YouTube, and the images look as good as anything else. Alright, sometimes that's not saying very much. Trust me though, when I say that for the price, this Sony camera can hold it's own against a lot of much more expensive and even professional cameras. And, you can carry it anywhere. I even carry it around my house to catch those "Aw, look how cute the dog/cat is" shots. You know, the ones you always miss 'looking for the camera'! Yeah, I gotta admit-I do love it!

Very good Camera
I am stationed in iraq right now and my local iraqi interpreter who does not have the luxury to a bank account or debit or credit cards wanted me to order this off the internet for him. He was completely convinced that this is the best digital camera in the world, he said he has done the research and he has already one before this, and there is no better digital camera out there, haha. Sure enough i got it in the mail and took a look at it and it seemed very very nice. I would highly recommend it and so would my interpreter Jabbar.

MD) CL) U) SONY DSC-L1 DIGITAL CAM
Customer Review :
Got this as a gift... not too pleased
I wanted a nice small digital camera just to have to take pictures. My grandma bought me this one. I was pleased with it for awhile, it's small, portable, light and easy to take pictures with that the quality are pretty good, all things considered. Although, only about 5-6 months after receiving it, it broke. It started making this annoying clicking sound and the lens wouldn't emerge, the only thing it did was display pictures... Since it was still under warranty, I sent it in and had it repaired for free. Then it was great... It broke a few months later, the same problem, only this time it wasn't under the one year warranty and it'd cost over a hundred to repair it... and I could just get a different camera with that money... So this isn't the best choice... though maybe I just got a defective camera.

Pass this one up
This was not a cheap camera. We paid over $200.00 for it, trusting the Sony name for quality. First of all the buttons are very small so if you have larger fingers, you may not like the controls. Secondly, it does not take the photos as quick as a digital of this caliber should, often photos turned out blurry. Additionally, our camera broke while still under warranty, we had to pay to have it shipped to a service center and were required to add insurance and only use UPS shipping, all of which cost over $15.00. The camera was returned to us and worked for about a month and then the same problem happened, however this time it was not under warranty and Sony would not cover the repair unless we paid $112.00 for the repair service, plus additional shipping. What a waste of money this purchase was!

It Keeps Going
I've had this camera since 2005 and it's still going strong. Battery life seems like forever. Quality of pictures hasn't diminished in these three years. It's taken quite a beating cosmetically but hasn't had one problem. Sony=quality.

Hardy Little Camera
I've had this camera since 2005 and I love it. It works everytime and anytime I use it. I'm very OCD about taking care of my stuff so I guess that's why it has lasted this long. I think as a everyday camera, it's great. But as a rugged high-usage camera, forget it. I worked at one of those electronics stores in the camera dept and I got so many returns on this little camera. What was the #1 reason? It didn't last through wear and tear of heavy usage. Many people mistake the small size as durability. Sony makes good cameras but this one is not for rookie camera folks. I would recommend getting a Kodak or Canon SureShot as a first camera, then graduate yourself to this one. People complain that their pictures aren't good in dark/low lighting. Well, of course! The tiny flash on this thing isn't going to make a big impact on the lighting of your pictures. If you actually go through and read many reviews of different cameras, you'll find that dark/low lighting settings are not advisable for ANY digital camera. I have to admit, the screen is horribly small so be prepared to squint a lot. Otherwise, I believe this camera is well worth the money because it does what it is made for.

Love my Ol L1
Have had this camera since it hit the market about 4-5 years ago. I have taken more than 4000 pictures with it. I love it for it's speed, image quality, and size. It is always with me because it is tiny. It turns on in like 2 seconds, shutter is almost real time fast! Today it is an excellent value at less than 100 usd used.
Have a 7.1 mp Olympus which is water/shock proof... we like the DSC-L1 better when we are away from sand and water because of it's speed and superior auto function.

Great for traveling
In the world of electronics, you really cannot go wrong with Sony. I use this camera for work and travel, and it never dissapoints. Light, but clear, it will go with you and take great sharp pictures with ease. The nice thing about this, and other digital cameras, is you can pick what pictures you want to print and which ones to throw away. Easy to share pictures with family online, and keep on your computer for easy storage. I would recommend this camera for novices-experts.

Very good first camera
I've had this camera for almost two years now; have taken tons of pics both for the internet and for print. Using the best resolution it offers in normal light conditions, I've had perfect quality prints developed. You can't tell that they were taken with a digital camera - at least I can't and that's enough for me. :) Some minor problems do occur, though: if there's not enough light (for instance indoors) without the flash the picture becomes grainy. Also, it takes some time till it clicks. And a lot of pics were blurry when i used it in a party with a lot of flashing coloured lights around - but I guess that's not everyday use. :) As for the battery: I was surprised to read about these problems. I have inexpensive rechargable batteries and they last for a reasonably long period of time. I've never had a problem with them. I really like this camera, with the optical zoom and other features. Once you get used to the longer time it takes to click and if taking party-pics is not your main goal, it's a very good camera.

I bought this camera at a military exchange for pretty cheap. For my first Digital Camera I made a fine choice. You can never go wrong with Song first off. The camera is pretty basic, I didn't even read the instructions before using. It takes great photos and is pretty durable. Being in the military, I've taken this thing around the world and have had no ill effects. The only problem I can think of is that the delay is pretty long. This camera is no good for quick pictures, but I've worked around it. I also would recommend a memory stick upgrade. The one that comes with it only holds about 10 pictures. That's ok at home but over seas you have to have more memory. For a first time digital camera buyer, I most diffently recommend this camera.

I recently purchased a Sony DSC W150 camera. There are soo many fake Chinese built fake sony cameras in market here in Sri Lanka. I just want to know if there are any possible ways how I can make sure the camera i purchased is an originally a Sony made one. Thanks in advance...god bless

Contact 'Sony'. Keep your serial number in hand. This is the only error-less and sure way to know.

Question : How do you go to the trash bin in a Sony digital camera?
It's a sony Cyber-shot DSC-W120 digital camera. I Deleted the pictures by accident andI really want to get them back. Thanks
Answer:
You are thinking that your camera works like your computer, sorry but it does not, once you have deleted them then under all normal circumstances you have lost them. If you have not taken other photographs since you deleted them so that they have not been overwritten you can contact a specialist company who deal in data recovery. There may be software you can purchase that will do the same job, how effective it is I have no idea. You will have to do a search of the internet to locate it. Whichever way it will probably cost you, so it depends how important these photos are.Regards.

Question : i broke my sony camera, should i invest in a new sony digital camera or buy a canon?
i've heard canon brand is better than sony, but since i already have the battery, charger and memory card i was thinking about getting another sony.. so do i buy a Sony camera or go for a Canon?????what's your advice?
Answer:
Tough choice, but think the Canon below would really be the best.Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Please read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.Canon A590IS $134.99 at Best Buy or $116.30 at Amazon.comhttp://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...Camera reports batteries low, but is it low charge or bad electrical contacts? Overcharging can ruin good batteries! The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between batteries and camera. Digital cameras require lots of power. Bad electrical contacts can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD screen is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. Bad contacts make cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be severely damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with safety timer, temperature monitor, and trickle charge technology ($9.76) at Walmart. For longer life, use Duracell 2000mAh batteries and a full cycle charge monthly. To preserve battery charge, use the view finder and not the LCD screen when possible. There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. What gives a camera its picture quality? The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera. The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...Lots of great camera tips in these two links. http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=38/10468/6368/333&pq-locale=en_US ...Check this more for the money camera. Just know how to use the one you have.My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic. Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view the owners manual at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/di

Question : Looking for a good sony digital camera?
I'm wanting a good digital camera, but not something that would cost a million dollars. It can be other brands but I would prefer sony... So I'm looking for a camera that isn't bulky... but I guess most digital camera's aren't. I'd like a good picture quality as in... no random white dots if the lighting source isn't good, or anything like that. Fairly quick picture taking would be lovely... and if the camera's limit is only limited to the memory cards' limit. Also being able to record clips... if there could be some sound. I was looking at some of the lower grades of sony camera and I noticed recording doesn't have sound. And again, I'd prefer sony, but I guess it doesn't really matter.
Answer:
Since you prefer Sony, here are two pretty well reviewed models of Sony that meet up to your requirements. Both have fast response times and they both take video with audio. One is the Sony N2 Here is a link with info and review :http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/n2.htmlSecond is the Sony T100Here is a link with info and review :http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/sony_t100.htmlPersonally I would go for the N2 because of its larger sensor but then thats a personal preference because on the other hand, the T100 is VERY compact. Here is a link to a site where you can compare image and video quality :http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=1&ma1=32&mo1=&p1=2049&ma2=31&mo2=&p2=1450&ph=5Good luck!

i need help... if anybody has any info i would appreciate the help. Its a sony digital camera model dsc h20 and i want to offload my pictures onto my mac. thanks in advance for your help!
Answer:
Well, the camera surely came with a USB cable for that very purpose, so find it, and plug one end into the camera and then plug the other end into the back of your Mac and iPhoto will open and download the photos for you.If you don't have the cable, you'll have to get one, probably on eBay or somewhere like that. Just do an online search for "USB cable sony dsc h20" and you'll surely find one.Good luck!... ☺

Question : Will any Sony digital camera body work with the older Minolta Rokkor lenses?
I have many good Minolta Rokkor lenses I've used on several Minolta SRT camera bodies. I understand that Sony bought Minolta so will any of the Sony digital bodies fit the Rokkors (like the older Pentax lenses do with current Pentax digitals)?
Answer:
There is an adapter but its hard to find although a visit to the Sony web site might be helpful. Other than that just keep checking on eBay. Unfortunately, when Minolta introduced the Maxxum 7000 AF camera in 1985 they changed their lens mount. Sony now uses the A-mount so any Maxxum AF lens will work just fine on a Sony DSLR.
