Great little camera, but the battery needs improvement

I am a photo nut and frankly did not have high hopes for this little camera, but the pink color was so cute that I thought I'd give it a try. I was not disappointed! It takes beautiful photos and is small & light enough to keep in my purse all the time. The panorama mode is very easy to use and makes cool photos, capturing whole areas that you would need several regular photos to capture. I found this to be a super simple camera to use with full auto settings (so makes a great gift for Mom or Grandma). My only problem is with the battery. It seems to last a very short time from fully charged to fully drained, and I suspect this is due to it's small size and weight. I know there are trade offs with compact cameras, but I took the camera to a party recently and it didn't even last through the whole event. Replacement batteries cost about $50, so getting a spare to bring with me is not really an option. Bottom line is, this is great to carry around in your purse or car for quick "spur of the momemt" events, but don't rely on this little camera to have enough battery life for longer events like weddings, parties, vacations, etc.

The TX1 features a 10.2 megapixel 1/2.4-Inch Exmor R CMOS image sensor that delivers fast speed, high resolution, and twice the low-light sensitivity of traditional CMOS sensors, resulting in outstanding image clarity and drastically reduced noise. Get up close to your subject with the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens featuring a 4x telescopic zoom for distant subjects and Close Focus mode for close-ups up to just under ½-Inch from the subject.

Customer Review :

Great for certain situations

Having owned 3 other Sony cameras and a Panasonic, I am somewhat picky. I was debating whether to purchase the TX1 or the TX5 but here in Switzerland the TX1 was REMARKABLY cheaper so this made my decision for me. Certain features of this camera have greatly impressed me. For instance, indoor shots and low-lighting shots are amazing for a camera in this category. It is also extremely quick when focusing and taking the picture which was a feature I really looked for. This is by far the fastest and best for indoor shots. In addition, it takes AMAZING close-ups and shows extraordinary amounts of detail and does very well when taking pictures of moving targets. The video quality is exceptional for a camera of this size as well. Initially, I was weary of buying a touch screen camera but I have really enjoyed it so far. I was worried it would be hard to hold the camera without touching the screen and that not having physical buttons would be a hassle, however it has proven to be more fun to use and pretty simple. The only drawback is the outdoor quality under sunny conditions. Being someone that travels a lot, this is upsetting. The pictures are still crystal clear but the color tends to be somewhat dull. I caught myself using color-enhancing features on my computer after uploading the pictures I had taken. I wouldn't consider the outdoor shots to be "terrible" as some of the other reviews would have you believe, but I do find them to lack a certain amount of vibrance. This is the perfect camera for someone younger that just likes to take pictures of friends, family, parties, etc but for outside scenery, it's slightly disappointing. You probably wouldn't notice though unless you had used some other higher-end digital camera under similar conditions. However, due to the size, close-ups, video quality, and touch screen, I would recommend this camera.

Cybershot DSC TX1

This is my 3rd Sony Cybershot. My only negative is it didn't have a Memory Stick included.
The battery doesn't last as long as the T100. Picture quality is fantastic for such a small camera.

Excellent point and shoot with HD video and panorama

Pleasantly surprised with the ability of this camera to shoot high quality videos, given its slim size. Pictures cant beat the best point and shoot cameras out there but no complaints at all - in fact, shoots good low light pictures. Just shot my first panoramas and have come out excellent. This just might be the best portable all purpose camera out there.

Awesome point and shoot camera

I'm very happy with this camera. Photo quality under poor light conditions is amazing; photos are better than expected. Video quality is very good, and you can zoom in while recording. Panorama function is also incredible; it does a very good job with landscapes.

My only concern is battery life; it's less than expected, so you will need an extra battery and / or a power supply near to you. Other than this, I absolutely recommend this product.

Wonderful camera.

This Sony camera is simply superb. Being touch screen, it is a different excitement. Haven't used it extensively, but whatever I have used it, liked it. I am yet to have a good knowledge about its battery usage though.

Could be better

This camera is alot smaller than it seems in the picture, which is a great thing. The color is also pretty. However, the few modes that are contained in this camera dont apply to the many situations and/or locations that the camera could adjust to. The pictures arent always clear and the pictures often come out dark whether theyre taken inside or outside. Im sorry to say that I wouldnt recommend this camera to others.

quick shipment, slow shutter speed

Amazon did a fine job with prompt shipment. The camera performs very well and creates high quality pictures. Our only issue is that the long response time between clicking the button and the picture being taken. I am sure there is a technical term for this, but I don't know it. On balance, this is a good camera for the low price.

Customer Review :

Wow! This is one great camera!

I have owned the Olympus EP-1, Panasonic GF1, also have a Nikon d90 and canon s90 so I have seen a lot of pictures from all these cameras. First I would like to say the MENU on the NEX is actually pretty GOOD. Yes, like everybody has said it would have been nice to have a dedicated button for iso, w balance etc..BUT it takes literally 1 second and you can change those settings, what's all the fuss about??? I actually find the Nex's menu LESS complicated than the EP1 that drove ME nuts! So..to all afraid of this camera because so many reviews mention the menu is horrible..to them I say what???

What is blowing me away most is the low noise at high iso plus the overall picture quality. I am one of those DSLR people who wants DSLR type quality in the smallest package possible. I admit I am NOT a pro photographer but I can change every setting on my D90 and I know how to go deep into DSLR settings and what they mean. I say this ONLY because the Nex-5 seems aimed at point and shooters moving up the quality ladder but supposedly don't know all that much about settings. Yes, the Panasonic GF1 and Olympus E-P1 seem to give you a "little more" manual control than this NEX-5 does..but it's pretty close..re: controls.

What the NEX-5 does in my opinion is especially in raw format Blow the doors off the GF1 and EP1 as to how much detail you can work with. On the GF1 in raw..often I STILL couldn't get skin tones to look right, shadows in lower light always had too much noise..and I ended up with too many grainy pictures. I am simply blown away with the NEX as to how much detail you can get back using raw...where the jpg may look like a total loss..you can often still get a great pic using raw.

For the point and shoot people..the raw conversion software that comes with the Sony is actually VERY good, powerful and EASY to use. Overall this is a SMALL camera that pretty much takes pictures in the same general ballpark as the better dslrs in my opinion. I think this may actually have less noise than my Nikon d90.

What I don't like..manually you can only choose iso 200, 400, 800, 1600 etc. I prefer a bit more control ala the GF1 where you can choose say a 640, 1000, iso or 1200 iso etc. That being said if you choose Auto iso the NEX Will at times choose isos such as 640, 1000 etc..not available manually.

Some of the gimmicks? like panorama or twilight handheld shooting where the NEX shoots about 5 pictures within about a second actually WORK and I think at times "these can give you pictures you simply can NOT get on a gf1, ep1" etc.

One other thing I am not thrilled about is overall color saturation is bit too punchy or high. This is not a problem as it takes a sec IF you want a bit less color saturation in your pics with any photo editor.

The NEX feels great in your hand. It feels solid as a brick YET seems to weigh much less than the gf1 and ep1 making the Nex easier to take with you!

There is no perfect camera and never will be. In my opinion though..if you don't need to change settings every 2 seconds..OVERALL this NEX-5 may be your best choice right now as far as mirrorless cameras go. Don't forget one huge reason the GF1/EP1 look so much better than point and shoot cams is the sensor size. Well the full sized dslr sensor in the NEX is MUCH bigger than micro Four..hence the lower noise...better overall IQ in my opinion.

Again I am truly stumped at how many complaints I heard about the menu. I actually feel the menu is QUITE intuitive.
This is a REALLY good/Beautiful camera...it's a keeper at least for now!

Question : i broke my sony camera, should i invest in a new sony digital camera or buy a canon?
i've heard canon brand is better than sony, but since i already have the battery, charger and memory card i was thinking about getting another sony.. so do i buy a Sony camera or go for a Canon?????what's your advice?

Answer:
Tough choice, but think the Canon below would really be the best.Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Please read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.Canon A590IS $134.99 at Best Buy or $116.30 at Amazon.comhttp://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...Camera reports batteries low, but is it low charge or bad electrical contacts? Overcharging can ruin good batteries! The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between batteries and camera. Digital cameras require lots of power. Bad electrical contacts can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD screen is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. Bad contacts make cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be severely damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with safety timer, temperature monitor, and trickle charge technology ($9.76) at Walmart. For longer life, use Duracell 2000mAh batteries and a full cycle charge monthly. To preserve battery charge, use the view finder and not the LCD screen when possible. There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. What gives a camera its picture quality? The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera. The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. Question : Looking for a good sony digital camera?
I'm wanting a good digital camera, but not something that would cost a million dollars. It can be other brands but I would prefer sony... So I'm looking for a camera that isn't bulky... but I guess most digital camera's aren't. I'd like a good picture quality as in... no random white dots if the lighting source isn't good, or anything like that. Fairly quick picture taking would be lovely... and if the camera's limit is only limited to the memory cards' limit. Also being able to record clips... if there could be some sound. I was looking at some of the lower grades of sony camera and I noticed recording doesn't have sound. And again, I'd prefer sony, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

Answer:
Since you prefer Sony, here are two pretty well reviewed models of Sony that meet up to your requirements. Both have fast response times and they both take video with audio. One is the Sony N2 Here is a link with info and review :http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/n2.htmlSecond is the Sony T100Here is a link with info and review :http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/sony_t100.htmlPersonally I would go for the N2 because of its larger sensor but then thats a personal preference because on the other hand, the T100 is VERY compact. Here is a link to a site where you can compare image and video quality :http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=1&ma1=32&mo1=&p1=2049&ma2=31&mo2=&p2=1450&ph=5Good luck!

Question : Video from Sony digital camera has watermark on it?
I have a Sony DSC-w290 digital camera. I filmed a short video clip and, when I put the file on my computer, it has a huge watermark right in the middle saying "evaluation copy." It doesn't show up when I view the video on the camera, just on the computer. I ran it thorugh a couple different converters and video players, but it was still there. How do I get rid of it?

Answer:
You pay for the software and the watermark is removed.

Question : What Sony digital camera would you recommend?
Tell me the pros and cons of it please. Is Sony - Cyber-shot 8.1MP Digital Camera - Black Model: DSC-T70/Ba great digital camera for an example?

Answer:
sincerely,i don t reccommend you the sony cameras ,.............................i...have had only troubles with them until now ,take a canon camera........are better
